The Colts signed TE/FB Dominique Jones to the 53-man roster and place TE Justice Cunningham on the Practice Squad. The Colts now have four tight ends (Fleener, Allen, Jones, Doyle) on the 53-man roster heading into the season opener. Dominique Jones was on the actice roster last year heading into the season opener against the Bears. Dominique Jones finished the 2012 Season on the Practice Squad. The Colts had three tight ends on the roster at the end of the season, Allen, Fleener, and Saunders. Weslye Saunders was released by the Colts on July 25, 2013 due to a eight-game suspension.
Justice Cunningham was drafted by the Colts in the seventh round as Mr. Irrelvent. He initially made the 53-man roster but was waived and placed on the Practice Squad. Both Jones and Cunningham are similar in size. They are both 6'3''. Cunningham, though, weighs three more pounds than Jones. Jones is listed as 255 lb and Cunningham is listed as 258 lb. I expect Cunningham to come back at some point this season. Jones and Doyle may see some time against the Raiders in case Fleener and Allen aren't healthy enough.
I like the idea of signing Dom Jones to the 53-man roster and I like that they kept Cunningham in some way. This is not a major move by the Colts, but wanted to say it in case anyone did see it yet.
