  1. Our future looks good to me, but it will take time for the rookies to mature and to fill the obvious needs with either the draft or free agency (andwe will have spending money next season). Even the teams considered "elite" have a difficult time making it all the way to the Super Bowl, and the Colts were periously close to being "that" team that was always good but never quite getting there. It will take time, but if the cards fall right, we'll be in the mix soon enough. So competing for middle ground right now would be excellent. It would bode well for the future, would likely help attract free agents (debatable in many cases I realize, but not all cases), and would keep the stadium full.

  2. Being new to this board, I am not allowed to start messagd yet, so I'll try way down here to ask the following: I am taking my daughter to her first Colts game this Sunday (though she goes to college 30 miles West of Cleveland, she is a Colts fan will be adorned in a Luck jersey!). It's my first trip to Lucas Oil stadium. My question - what should I do to assure a good time? Is there an ear for pregame festivites? How early is not too early enough to arrive? Where to park? Anything will help! Thanks!!

  3. I keep reminding myself that we are basically playing with about 2/3 of our cap money this season, yet it appears Grigson is doing everything possible to win this season. If we can unearth a few players this season, it sure bodes well for the future. (However, with all the roster moves well into the season, I'd be a little nervous if I were a player!)

  4. Funny, but after a surprise comeback against Green Bay, it's easy to forget we already lost at home to Jacksonville, an are underdogs at Jets this weekend. It's also amazing to me that we seemed to not get any healthier during the bye week (and lost our coach during the stretch even), and have since lost Mathis and Brown. Normally a bye week is helpful, but we seemed cursed during ours.

  5. heck, how far do you want to go back? I'll just stick with Indy Colts history so no Art Schlister and John Elway stuff.

    1. Traded the farm for Eric Dickerson. This move kept the Colts in mediocre land for several years. Dickerson was good enough to keep the Colts competitive but never better than 9-7.

    2. Traded two first round picks for Fredd Young, one was a top ten pick the other was a top fifteen I think. This trade happend in 1988. After 1990 Young retired.

    3. Traded Andre Rison, Hall of Fame calibre LT Chris Hinton and a bunch of other picks including QB Chris Chandler to Atlanta for ultra talented underachiever Jeff George. George was such a terrible teammate it was rumored his own O-line let pass rushers come free on purpose. Meanwhile Chandler had a very respectable career including leading the Falcons to the Super Bowl in 1998.

    4. Colts had the first and second pick overal in the 1992 draft! Unfortunately there was no "can't miss franchise QB." They settled for the two best defensive players in the draft. Both guys crapped out. Steve Emtman was an injury bust. Quinton Coryatt was built like an All-Pro but injuries and a lack of "IT" prevented from ever being anything special. These guys set the Colts defense back ten years!

    5. Giving Quinton Coryatt a monster contract after the 1995 season! Our 1995 defense was probably the best Indy Colts defense ever! But within a couple of years, all of those key guys were gone! Bill tobin had no cash left to do anything. Tony Siragusa was let to. He went on to be a key contributor for Baltimore's Super Bowl team. Ashley Ambrose and Ray Buchannon were let go in successive years. Both guys became Pro Bowlers. Ray was a key leader for Atlanta's Super Bowl team. They also let go of pro bowl left tackle Will Woolford!

    6. The whole Tarik Glenn/Tony Ugoh thing really hurt the team.

    7. Letting Jake Scott and Ryan Lilja go without having compentent talent in place.

    8. Going out of their way to make Jim Caldwell the successor to Tony Dungy. Really? I don't recall there being a long line for Caldwell's services. That whole things still baffles me. Last year was a disaster, but if we had an upper tier head coach, I don't think it would have been THAT bad.

    9. Drafting Joseph Addai instead of MJD. Polian laments this as one of his greatest regrets. Imagine if Manning had MJD in the backfield with him?!!

    10. Drafting Jerry Hughes instead of Roger Saffold was a big mistake.

OJI nailed this one IMO. I totally TOTALLY agree with the Fredd Young one; I might argue against Dickerson being bad because at the time the Colts were a faceless franchise going nowhere, and his arrival suddenly made them relevant in the eyes of many. I was excited thinking maybe, just mabe he and Jeff George will click. A last one that no one remembers was tradiding eithr a #1 or a #2 for Walter Murray who did absolutely nothing for us. If that trade was made today, by comparison Jerry Hughes would be Ring of Honor material.
