Interesting that Lenny hasn’t followed up his original post, eh?

Lenny essentially passed smelly gas in a crowded elevator, immediately got off at the next floor, and is now watching the reactions of the remaining elevator passengers via hidden camera after the elevator got stuck.

Talking about TY, I saw his kid Eugene Hilton play WR and catch a TD pass vs Brownsburg High School in that game, he has very good speed too but will have more size than his Dad once he is done growing. Check his 80 yard reception vs Brownsburg in this.

However, Brownsburg, man their RB Sherrell, he has blazing speed, check this article on him:

    https://www.wishtv.com/sports/high-school-the-zone/athlete-of-the-week-garrett-sherrell/

He can get to the edge real fast, he will get college offers, IMO:

Yeah - I heard about TY's son too - he's already taller than his dad, but needs to add a few pounds, which he will.  Interesting that he will be speedy like dad, but with more size.  Hmm...sound familiar?  MHJ is a beast, with regards to size, compared to his dad and will be an ever better prospect coming out of college than dad was....which is scary when you think about it.

Marvin went pro two years before Peyton.  In a few years, what if Arch eventually lands on the same NFL team as Marvin Jr?

That remains to be seen.  AR needs to stay healthy first.  Downs can make plays in space with G-Min, but AR needs to be healthy for Downs to be a consistent deep threat like TY was.

It’s impossible not to love and respect GM, but he will get exposed the more he plays. If our D keeps games low-scoring and we run the ball well, we can win. Expecting GM to put up a lot of points or win a shootout doesn’t seem realistic to me but I’m rooting for the guy to hold down the fort.

This is exactly why it was important to get JT back.  We just need G-Min to manage the game, make a couple plays, and not turn the ball over, which he hasn't.  Our 4 turnovers were by Jackson (2) - who was cut and by AR (2).  Our D is playing well, we have solid STs, and our HC is making the team play hard.  I expect AR to be back after the bye when we play the Bucs on Nov 26th.  Meanwhile, our schedule is:

    at Jags

    Browns

    Saints

    at Panthers

    at Patriots (Germany)

Next week is a must win if we really want to contend for the division because the Jags have it a tougher over the same stretch:

    Colts

    at Saints

    at Steelers

    49ers

    Titans

It starts Sunday - we ended two streaks by beating the Titans, now it's time to end another one by beating the Jags.

Fear the Turtle! And Fear the Stache! Shane needs to get them in a controlled 90 degree practice facility on Thursday and Friday and do the Wednesday walk-through practice again in preparation for the Florida heat. This 2014 streak has gone on too long!

We played Ohio State well for 2 and a half quarters, but then got our butts handed to us - we should get a decent bowl game and be in the top 25 by year's end.

G-Min reminded me of Hulk Hogan back in his WWF/WWE days during yesterday's victory celebration!

Downs isn't a surprise  I honestly  expected  more. He is much better wr than Pittman  and pierce were coming  out of college

Downs may end up being a poor man's Hilton, which I'll take any day.  Hilton was a deep threat and AR being injured a lot limits YPC for Downs, but he's still on pace for nearly 80 catches and close to 900 yards for his rookie season, I'll take that any day as well, especially with JT and Moss in the backfield.  I would like more receiving TDs, but I've accepted the fact that, by season's end, this team will probably have more rushing TDs than receiving TDs.

I wonder if we'll see any sets with both JT and Moss in the backfield at the same time?  Motion either one out to the slot and then jet sweep them.

Maybe I should send some plays to Shane, I'm sure he'd appreciate it.

Not sure about jet sweeps so soon for JT, but I could see him eventually lined up in the slot to make a play in space.  As the season goes on though, I can see Shane getting creative with the formations.  I would like a see an occasional WR sweep with Downs like they did with Dulin and De'Michael Harris a few years back.  Downs has been a pleasant surprise so far as a rookie.

Well, you're a little off.  The last Colts HC didn't make the playoffs.

But he didn't have Peyton or Luck, poor guy.

I'm not counting interim HCs, just new HCs who actually began the season.  I'll meet you halfway and say this though, if Frank was fired after that season ending loss to the Jags and Saturday was hired as the new HC in the off-season, we still would have stunk in 2022.

  9. The Colts haven't won on the road against the Jags since 2014.  Next week, G-Min will be starting against his former team in an effort to end the streak.  Hopefully, the presence of Moss & Taylor will open up some passing plays downfield as the game goes on.  I have a good feeling about this team because they play hard every week, a reflection on the HC.

Wexhave been in qb hell because Ballard has always thought his talent is better than it actually is. He thinks we r just a qb away. If I am a free agen5, I ain't coming to Indy. The all chips in statement by Irsay looks quite premature and looks silly right now.

Well, I also think we are just a QB away from being a perennial playoff team.  This would make Indy attractive to FAs.  If Luck were still here, do you think we'd have any problems getting FAs?  My one knock on Ballard is that he isn't willing to spend money to bring in outside FAs.   I agree with you 100% about Irsay...why did he even make that statement if he can't back it up.

We have young talent on both sides of the ball, but my concern is that their prime years will be wasted because of the QB situation.

It can't be Grigson's fault 6 years after he was fired.

    Irsay hired Grigson.

Grigson ultimately broke Luck because he didn't properly fix the OL.

We've been in QB hell ever since.

If Irsay had hired a GM in 2012 with the same philosophy as Ballard, then Luck would still be playing, we'd be a perennial playoff team, and we wouldn't be having this conversation.

  12. Ultimately, all of this can be traced back to when Irsay hired Ryan Grigson.  If the team would have been built in the trenches, then Luck would still be playing.  In fact, if you replace 2012 Grigson with 2017 Ballard, then I believe we would have been a perennial threat.  Ballard has several solid players on O and D, but had solid QB play in only 2 of his 5 seasons here...and guess what...we made the playoffs both years.

I get that Jim Irsay is upset with the direction of his franchise.  However, he made his bed 10 years ago, now he has to lie in it.

    Game 1 at Chargers - L 30-24 - missed 2 FG and 1 XP (7 pts) - convert to W

    Game 2 vs Titans - L 19-17 - missed 2 XP (2 pts) - convert to Tie

    Game 4 vs Raiders - L 31-24 - missed 1 FG (3 pts) - remains a L (although I think there were other circumstances)

    Game 8 vs Broncos - L 15-13 - missed 1 FG and 1 XP (4 pts) - convert to W

    Game 9 at Steelers - L 26-24 - missed 1 FG and 1 XP (4 pts) - convert to W

    Game 10 vs Dolphins - L 16-12 - missed 1 XP - remains a L

    Game 13 at Titans - L 31-17 - missed 3 FG, including 1 return for TD (net 13 pts) - remains a loss

11-5 (if we win vs JAX)

    Some corrections:

Game 2 was a win (would have been 21-17 instead of 19-17)

Game 8 was a win as another posted stated (score would have been 16-13 as we would have run out the clock) - Jacoby's incredible throw to TY from the end zone would have iced the game.

Game 10 could have been tied 16-16 at regulation as we were in the Dolphin red zone on 4th down and would have attempted a game tying FG.  OT may or may not have resulted in a win.

Game 13 could have been a 26-24 Indy win as the blocked FG TD by Tenn never would have happened.  However, making both 50+ FGs in the 1st half would have been a tall order.

The swing games would have been Chargers, Steelers, and Titans (10-5 going into Jax or 11-4 if we beat Mia in OT).

Even with JB's lack of production, it looks as though we would be headed for the playoffs if Chase had been our opening day kicker.

Bottom line is if the Colts go 10-6, losing only to one of the NFC south teams, they will make the playoffs. If they lose 2 games and go 9-7, they simply aren't consistent enough and don't deserve to get in.

    This. ^

Furthermore, when Luck retired in August, if someone told us we would end up going 10-6 and not lose any games by more than 7 points, I think we would be thrilled.  We quickly forget how often this team was blown out during the Pagano/Grigson era.

The truth is that the fan base is going through withdrawal pains.  The addiction was having an elite QB for 20 years.  It got us one Super Bowl title.

Einstein stated that insanity was born from doing the same thing over again and expecting different results.  Lofty offensive stats by Colt players won many fantasy leagues, but they didn't lead to sustained success in the post season. Ballard and Reich are building this team the right way - we just have to get used to having a complete team for a change instead of expecting an elite QB to carry the team.

With the toxic atmosphere on this forum, there has been a sharp drop in insightful posts and I haven't posted as much.  I just wanted to thank you for taking the time to break down your projections on teams in the playoff hunt.   It was appreciated.

Someone can correct me if I am wrong here. If we win the next two games and Houston loses to NE does that make us only have to win one more game to wrap up the division.  We could wrap up the division with a win against the Bucs because we would have a three game lead over the Texans if we win the next two and they lose two NE. Everything is right there for us. We can’t get into a wildcard situation with the raiders or buffalo. It would make it nice already having the division locked up going against the saints. Lots of pressure off.  I don’t think the ravens are going to lose more then one more so not sure we will be able to get a two seed.  This game is so important because the Texans will own all the tiebreakers if we split with them,

Bills still have to go to the cowboys and NE and play the ravens so we will see if they stay in the wild card race.

If we are 8-4 and Hou is 6-6 and we beat Tampa to go 9-4, then Hou still needs to lose one more game for us to clinch because Hou could win its last 4 to go 10-6 and we could lose the last 3 to go 9-7.   If we win at Hou and Tenn takes care of Jax, then the AFC South title essentially becomes a two team race between the Colts & Titans.  Tenn & Hou haven't even played each other yet so whoever can sweep that series will still have an outside shot of getting the 2nd wild card spot.

  16. I'm not in favor of an 18 game season, but if you are going to do it, then at least keep the schedule balanced.  Similar to divisional opponents, do both home and away games against the opponents that were determined by your finish within the division.  This would account for the two additional games.  For example, an 18 game season in 2019 would have the Colts playing the Dolphins and Steelers twice just like divisional games.

How big would it be if we started at KC and pulled it out

Good call.  With the schedule release next week, I wouldn't be surprised at all if the NFL has us open the season at KC for game one of ESPN's Monday Night doubleheader.

    1) Rematch of January's divisional playoff game

    2) Ballard's KC connection

    3) Justin Houston going against his former team

It would be like the NFL to give us three national Sunday/Monday games all AWAY.  That would suck.  Is this the schedule or just made up? If it is made up, not understanding how any predictions could be made?

Each year on the Colts forum, I predict the schedule for fun.  I usually try and create a schedule that is very favorable in terms of when the games are played (i.e fast starts and strong finishes).

The actual schedule release will probably occur on April 16th, 17th, or 18th.  It's the week before the draft.

  19. With the over/under having us at 9.5 wins, I copied and pasted this from my post in December.  Many times it is not just who you play, but when you play them.  This schedule should allow us to get off to a strong start and then get 3 of the final 4 at home against the division.  With a possible 5-1 start in our sights, I'll take the over.

  20. The order of the opponents can make it more manageable.  I came up with this mock schedule for 2019.

    9/8 @ Jax 1pm (CBS)

    9/15 MIA 1pm (CBS)

    9/22 OAK 1pm (CBS)

    10/6 DEN 1pm (CBS)

    10/13 @ Ten 1pm (CBS)

    10/20 @ Pit 4:25pm (CBS)

    10/27 ATL 1pm (FOX)

    11/4 @ San Diego 8:20pm (ESPN)

    11/10 BYE WEEK

    11/17 @ NO 8:20pm (NBC)

    11/24 CAR 1pm (FOX)

    12/1  @ Tampa Bay 1pm (CBS)

    12/5  TEN 8:20pm (NFLN/FOX)

    12/15 HOU 1pm (CBS)

    12/22 @ KC 4:25pm (CBS)

    12/29 JAX 1pm (CBS)

This would allow us to get off to a decent start, have a tough middle stretch, and a manageable final 6 games.  Houston has it tougher than us as they have to play the Pats and Ravens instead.

If we're fortunate enough to win the SB, then our only decent opening home Thurs kickoff opponent for ratings would probably be the Texans.

  21. If the Colts and Texans end up at 10-6 (with the Texans beating the Jags week 17), then the Colts and Texans will both have a 4-2 division record.  The next tiebreaker is common opponents.  Indy will win the division based on a better record against common opponents (9-5 vs 8-6).

Starting with the 2002 realignment and balanced schedule, the common opponent tiebreaker is ranked above the conference record when breaking ties within a division.  For teams in the same division, there are 14 games with common opponents vs 12 conference games.

Winning is winning.  As a fan I hope to win.  YOU say that the pick is significant, yet there are teams that do just fine each year picking at the end of each round.  No pick is guaranteed and a GM and organization you can build a team with picks regardless of where they are each round.

I don't often post on this forum anymore, but when I do, I give props to someone who clearly "gets it".  Thank you, and above all, stay thirsty my Colt fan friend.
