  1. I have repeatedly said a good hard fusion that is needed for a football player takes 6 months, I have said this from day 1 of all this, then said nerve must regenerate and just because fusion takes place it doesn't have to, if & once regenerated it supplies nerve nutrition to the triceps and strength can be gained but to what degree is anyone's guess if at all

I am Not a pessimist, I am an Optimist but also a realist

Agreed. My wife has had two spinal fusion operations, one to correct the other which failed due to medical irresponsibility during recovery (long story). There is no way that Peyton puts on a uniform this season. If the fusion hasn't yet taken there's simply no question at all of him playing in December that would be monumentally irresponsible. The compressed nerve takes time to recover, but that fusion has to take and fully harden before that nerve will really be able to heal.

There is no way we see Peyton on the field this year. By February they will know if the fusion will work, and whether the nerve is recovering. That's when Peyton will be able to make an informed decision about his future along with the Colts. People getting all upset because he mentioned talking in February need to understand that Feb is far enough along in the recovery process to really be able to tell how things are going, and how they are likely to progress. Speculating now is pointless.

  2. I say do it. Yea, I don't like it, but the more I think about it, the more I realize Andrew Luck may have to sit behind Manning for 3 years. That's way too long for a 1st overall QB, and Andrew Luck may not take to kindly to that, nor would Manning like the fact we wasted a 1st overall pick on a benched QB as opposed to helping Manning win games.

Because there are too many issues with this team to address in the short-term (coaching, defense, o-line, HB, and special teams), I'd rather see Peyton leave to shore up all our other needs and to reduce our salary cap in favor of Luck. We may be stagnant in our first year with Luck as our new talent (and hopefully new coach!) take time to adjust, but everything should pay dividends after then.

So, bet the farm on a boy named Luck? Toss Manning aside? These are some crazy sounding ideas. Personally, I think the team owes Manning bigtime and trading him would be a kick in the teeth - figuratively. Why should Peyton be ejected from the house that Manning built so people can press their luck?

  3. Heard on nfl network that Cowher maybe getting that itch. I get that most of us fans could'nt run a nfl team. I think it is just that 95% of fans relize anyone could do a better job of coaching this team and are just tossing some proven nams out there. I have never claimed to be the smartest guy on the forum, but I am smart enough to no that when 100 people to 2 including people local and national think Coach (word loosly used here)Caldwell is very under qualified at his position, and you need not be an expert to see that.

95%? 100 to 2? Those are some awfully big numbers. Got any proof of that, or are you simply basing your comments on your personal feeling? One thing to remember is that 95% of fans are not even qualified to be a junior analyst for an NFL coaching staff...100 people to 2 think Coach Caldwell is under qualified? Well, I understand that in a self selecting survey, that might be the case, but I'm not at all convinced that your number is really terribly close to the truth, especially if you're talking about NFL professionals.

  4. Oh, please no, definitely no. No to coach Gruden. He took Dungy's team to the SB and the credit, that is his claim to fame. No thanks. what did the Gruden Buccaneers do? We know what the Dungy Bucs did, what of the Gruden ones?

  5. Personally, I think that this is entirely dependent on Peyton Mannings health status. If he's fully healthy, then he potentially has 4+ years left in his arm. If we draft Luck (or any other top prospect at QB) this coming year that leaves whoever is drafted riding a bench for 4 years. Not a good way to spend big money on a draft pick since you won't use him. In which case, drafting Luck is not a great idea. Of course if we end up in that 1st pick slot we will want to keep everyone guessing so that the pick retains as much of it's trade value as possible.

I expect that we will here cautious but encouraging health news about Manning through the remainder of the year, and perhaps even see him throw some balls with the practice squad for effect. then during the off season the team can do a really deep look at Manning's health and readiness and whether he's good for 4+ years or not. Based on that assessment, we'll either trade the pick or draft high. But I can't really guess how that will go.

My personal thoughts/wishes are that Peyton makes a full recovery and plays for another 5 -6 years, and that the team spends the last 2-3 years looking at what kind of QB they want to replace Peyton with and then rebuild the team's roster and playbook around that. Simply slotting in a replacement isn't going to work because as we have seen this year, Manning brings so many intangibles that his absence affects things that you just don't anticipate.

All that said, I really like what Curtis Painter can do, and if the play calling, coaching and Defense (especially defensive play calling) could at least catch up to Painter's apparent ability, we would actually win some games. I'd be really comfortable with painter as Peyton's backup if for no other reason than he is actually reasonably good at replicating Peyton's style of play, even if it is without the intangibles that Peyton brings to the game. So with painter as backup, the gameplan doesn't have to change, but the coaches need to become more active.

All in all, I do not believe that the Colts should Press Their Luck, there are too many Whamy's on the board...

  6. mate, I do not agree with this mentality ok?

If a fan is picking against his own team, that is beyond discussion. I am not allowed to call out or question fans anymore, but that is definitely laughable.

Calling out fans in order to denigrate them or respond to their opinion in a way that denigrates them is clearly against the rules here, discussing opinions is not. Questioning opinions is not against the rules, it's all about how you do it. You can do better than simply calling someone, or their opinion laughable.

Oh, and BTW, just for the record, the expression "you guys are laughable at best" is directed at individual posters, not their opinions, which means that you insulted one or more people. Saying that the idea of Indy fans picking Tennessee to win is laughable, is not insulting to people, it merely questions the idea that fans of a team would pick against it.

Really, this isn't that hard, you just have to learn to pick your target with more care than you are using. Now, I know that this whole discussion of calling someone laughable, is laughable at best itself. But I also know that like a large oak tree grows from a small acorn, this kind of exchange can develop over time into something else.

So, please try to be more respectful of the people here, OK?

  7. dude, they are gonna give you -1's like crazy. This is not a forum for original thinkers. They want you to think like them.

It's fire Caldwell and Polian here. That is the only acceptable thinking.

Oh? really, This forum is very much a place for original thinkers, perhaps your problem is that you are not? The key to original or "out of the box" thinking is to respect all of the opinions, thoughts and ideas that are generated.

  8. In my opinion, this season will be the defining moment for the coaching staff at the Colts, the core players there and the fans here. What I am getting at is that we are clearly having a very poor year - abysmal actually. Until this weekend, I felt that the team had not yet given up. But the score this weekend tells me that either the entire defense is out due to injury, or they simply could not dig deep enough to hold the saints back - for whatever reason. The offense was not firing, however the last two weeks showed some promise at least, and confirmed that despite his relative inexperience and the performance gap between him and Peyton, Curtis Painter is at least fit to be a QB in the league. IIRC going into this week, he was in the top 50% of QBs in the NFL by rating this year.

So, as the season progresses, we as fans have to decide, are we here for the colts to support the team because they are the Colts, or are we only here to support the Colts when they are winners. It's a moment of decision and a defining moment for any fan. you have to decide how much you really love your team, if you really love them, then despite their situation, you continue showing that support and love for them. That is what being a fan is about.

For the players and coaching staff things are more challenging. Players can show their depth and strength by simply refusing to give up, no matter what. Sure it's dispiriting to lose game after game. But The colts know that there are highs and now that there are lows. Both are parts of the game, what matters this week is not how you performed last week, but how you perform this week. Players that give up, well, I'm sure that they will be cut, fans will writ them off, and things will be said. but amidst that, let's not forget to give credit to the players that stick with it and do to give up.

Finally, the coaching staff, and this does fall squarely on Jim Caldwell's shoulders - IMHO. There is no greater test of a coach's ability than a bad losing season. The head coach has to keep his staff motivated and focused, and they must keep the team motivated and focused. Up until last weekend's game I would have said that so far the coaching staff were actually doing really well. Despite the results if your coachs can keep your team motivated and focused through game after game, and you play a season without giving up at all, then the coaching staff has done a good job, no matter the results. This year we clearly have some extenuating circumstances that affect our performance on the field. But if our guys give up on games, if they stop showing up, that's a reflection on them, and on the coaches. if the players continue fighting from week to week, even when it's a lost cause, that tells you that the players are holding strong and that the Coaches are keeping them there. If the coaches can do that this year, if no matter the results they keep the team motivated and focused and playing hard to the very end, then can we say they did a bad job?

I can think of no greater challenge for a head coach and their staff than dealing with injuries to key starters and a franchise quarterback the keep them absent from the field for a season. If you want to evaluate how good a coach is, I think that you look at their performance in the face of adversity. I don't know how this season will pan out, but I suggest that everyone needs to just leave the evaluation of the coaching staff to the front office towards the end of the year.

I wasn't able to write this post last week as I wasn't here. Had I done so, I would have written the same thing, but this last game has made me add some qualifiers. I didn't see enough of the game to tell for sure, it was too ugly to watch. But is sure seemed that we either gave up, or were horribly outplayed. It reminds me of that Patriots/Redskins game game that ended up with the Redskins losing 52-7, the Patriots simply would not let up on a clearly defeated opponent. either way, we have to look at the next game to see whether our guys have given up, or not.

    I always remain hopeful...

  9. I think we should let Painter play, and give him complete support as he learns to be a #1 QB in the NFL. He's as good or better than Collins at this point, and that's without any first team practice since Collins showed up. If the fans can get behind him, as the team already appear to be, perhaps he will excel? Certainly he will get better. If Painter is to continue to be the 'backup' to Peyton, he has to be a valid choice as backup, otherwise why keep him on the roster. Personally, I think we should give the team to Painter, let Peyton and even Collins mentor him this year, let Peyton have the team back when he's healthy, but keep Painter on good terms and give him 1st team reps to keep him sharp.

  10. Now does everyone understand why we have been staying with Collins? At least he completes a pass now and then.

Yeah, well considering he had zero reps in practice because the team gave them all to Collins, he came into the game absolutely cold. Things did improve though, and if you listened to Tony Dungy in the post game, he's of the opinion that Painter should be the man for now. Dungy made the same point that Painter came into the game cold without many(any?) practice reps this week. So perhaps you should give him a chance? It's not like Collins was significantly better despite practicing all week with the first team.

  11. I think you're making quite the leap here. No one is promoting violence or not welcoming opposing fans. What would you have the local bars do? Pull down their Colts decorations and put up whatever team is coming to play? There's a difference between the Super Bowl, which is a neutral site game, and a teams home game. By all means, come wearing your Steelers jersey and spend your money here, but I don't think we need to put up a bunch of black and gold banners to welcome them.

I disagree completely with this mentality. When you host another team in your own stadium, you are the host, there is a thing called hospitality, being the host and such. Are you saying that Colts fans should be so insecure in their team and their liking of their team that fans of an opposing team should be made unwelcome?

Whatever happened to just supporting your team? How come it has to come down to hostility towards fans of other teams?

  12. Everyones different man, im sure those players didn have the same issue peyton is having... did they have to have 3 surgeries? who knows. I hope its not career ending.

Neck and back damage can be very tricky to fix. sometimes the first surgery doesn't quite work out as expected, or during recovery, the healing doesn't go according to plan. The spine, and especially the discs are some of the slowest healing parts of the human body.

  13. One Of My FAV Td's In The Last Few Years

Nothing Against Peyton But When We Got A Back Who Can Draw Attention Off Receivers Enuff To Open Em Up Like That We Need To Use It More

Just Imagine Down By 5 Brady Picked Off Peyton Leads Team Down To The 23 With 36 Secs Left On The Clock 3rd & 7 Peyton Takes The Snap Hands It To Joeseph Live & Let Addai He Rolls Out Austin Collie Is Wide Open Down The Middle Joe See's It Breaks A Tackle & Lets It Fly The Ball Is Deflected By Chung Its Up For Grabs Dallas Clark Steals It Out Of Mid Air On The 2 & Falls In The End Zone For The TD omg Can U Beleive It The Colts Are Going To Get Out Of Here With A Win & Stay Undefeated Can Anyone Stop Them Know Final Score 37-35 Indy What A Day That'll be A Web Gem

Just Some Optimistic Thinking Why Didnt They Just Ask Joe To Be The back Up QB lol he Knows Offense Better Then Painter hehe

No offense, but posting with every single word in your post capitalized makes my head hurt, even if it is just some optimistic thinking...

  14. No Brackett, no Freeney, No Mathis and a yet undefined D-line roster. Nope, not worried at all. This was a live practice scrimmage and thats all. We actually stood up pretty well until we started changing in 2-3-4th stringers, and a bevy of guys that have no realistic chance to make the squad.

With the changes to the CBA and the practice regulations that the coaching staff deal with, I now look at the first two pre-season games more as 3+ hour game speed full contact practice in pads instead of an exhibition game. I suspect that for this year, that is true of a lot of coaches as well.

  15. Manning's unique distinction and ability is that he can literally elevate an entire team. The Colts under another QB are simply not the Colts. To look at the other franchise QB of the era, Tom Brady, as good as he is (and he *is* good), isn't as important to his team. When he went down, Matt Castle stepped in, and the Patriots won, what 11 games?

No disrespect to the rest of the team, because a lot of this has to do with the way the team and game plans are built around Peyton Manning, but in truth, there is no other player in the league more valuable, or necessary to their team than Peyton Manning with the Colts. Put on top of that Peyton's stats and performance, character, leadership, work ethic and knowledge of the game, and I dare say it's fair to say that there is no other QB in the league that can match that, and there may never be.

  16. Have you noticed how the local (aka Home) commentary teams on the NFL Pre-season games have to make it sound like the result of the game is earth shattering when their tier-2 team is leading, or soundly beating a tier-1 team? I have this theory that these commentators have to do something because they know that in all likelihood during the regular season there will be precious little comfort to be found in the real games.

Well, that's OK, the Rams commentary team can gloat all they want, about a pre-season game; Joe Thiesman can blather endlessly (and repetitively) about being 'efficient' as the Redskins beat the Steelers; but we all know that come the real season, these guys are almost certainly going to have to adopt a whole new vocabulary that tries to take comfort from crumbs...

I don't know, I just find triumphant commentary about a preseason win to be more than a tad hollow...how about you?
