  1. I feel that it came down to the salary cap. we are out of room as it is. When Jim said it was up to Peyton on if he would play here or not, I feel he meant we cannot afford the cap hit to keep the old contract, and if Peyton really wanted to play here then he would sign a very cap friendly deal. One that Peyton would not take. I think they both understood and agreed that Peyton would not settle on something so low.

Um...yeah, well the thing is that contract, that so very unfriendly contract was the contract that Mr Irsay consciously and deliberately put in place. Or have you forgotten his determination that he have the highest paid QB in league history, and Peyton Mannings statements that he would take less to ensure the team had cap space. Irsay got his way and PM got a huge contract. Buyers remorse over the cap space might be appropriate except that the contracts terms were laid down by Jim Irsay himself. So he can hardly claim that the cap hit numbers are a surprise or were not expected, can he? So it's fairly disingenous to try to claim that it's all Peyton's fault for not agreeing to renegotiate a contract that was pushed on him, when it's actually already quite apparent that it was Irsay's decision and wasn't money related anyway. But, even if it *was* money related, how is it Peyton's fault that Jim Irsay get's buyers remorse over a deal he created?

  2. Threads about Peyton Manning moving to another team are by ddefinition not about the Colts. Therefore they will be moved. If a thread is purely about Peyton Manning it will be a judgement call, and if it's about his time as a Colt, then obviously it belongs in this forum.

As much as I personally value Peyton Manning as a player and a former Colt, the truth is that he is a *former* colt now, and as hard and unpleasant as it may be, we do have to begin moving forward.

  3. Hm...I guess it's about the loyalty of the fanbase.

Ah, so loyalty does factor in somewhere, but only where it's fans forking over their cash for a sub-standard team?

Kind of like the way that the Colts strung everyone along about Peyton last year by *not* placing him on IR as they should have?

  4. True, yet some fans made the move wih the team so I don't know if all would agree with that.

Hmm... When the Colts bolted out the door from Baltimore, It was the city that got cut in favor of a new one, the team remained. This time round, the city hasn't been cut, just the team. :/

  5. Teams go through these things all the time. The Pats got rid of Vrabel and Seymour and lost guys like Rodney Harrison and Bruschi as well. It's just a part of the game. The Colts will still be Indy's team, it'll just be with a new cast

With respect, I can't remember any team going through this fundamental a clear out. I've used the words scorched earth to describe it. They are very apt in my opinion.

Since the end of the season, we have lost the entire front office, the entire coaching staff and since Peyton's dismissal we are seeing the 'name' players being dropped one by one. Who will be left? Mathis? This isn't a team losing a few key players. This is a team throwing away *everything* it was.

  6. no...the patriots can be cold hearted and lots of players still wanna play there....

For a cold hearted team they sure showed Tom Brady the loyalty and respect that Peyton was denied. Brady was down for a year and his back up led the team well. Yet they kicked the backup loose and gave the keys back to Brady - who didn't even have to lift a finger to get them. A pity that the Colts could not have the same respect and loyalty.

  7. I think the outrage and hate being expressed in this thread is precisely the reason that Irsay made it known he was the one making the decision. If this was Grigson's call, he wouldn't stand a chance here.

Hate? where? People expressing how they feel about things isn't hate. But, if you think that there is hate on display in this thread, you really ought to report it - instead of making sweeping statements about it.

  8. Or we could get the franchise QB now that so many teams fail to find and build a team around him, which is a lot easier to do. Luck won't have a Houston Texans line. We aren't an expansion team. We still have some very good pieces. Castanzo and Ijlana are good starting pieces and if Saturday returns, thats an added piece as well. If Luck turns out to be an all-time great, isn't losing him blowing the pick?

No, I've seen far more occasions where a team took a QB in the draft that was authentically good, only to put the poor guy behind a horrible line. The outcome is always the same, a broken QB with zero confidence. I dislike that idea intensly, and feel that we should be building out from the lines.

  9. The Redskins and Cowboys both have over controlling owners which destroys those teams. Lets pray that Irsay doesn't follow suit!!

Um...new Gm, new coach, *the* face of the franchise gone, many other fan favorites gone. One remaining consistent thing - owner. What's that about over controlling owners?

  10. You know normally I agree with you on stuff but passing on Luck and RG3 is completely foolish IMO. No disrespect there. You take the FRANCHISE QB and build a FRANCHISE with him. The Luck era begins. If fans don't want to support him, thats on them. I'll be more than happy to take their spot as a season ticket holder.

The reason I don't think Luck or RGIII shuold be selected has nothing to do with whether or not the fans would support them or not. It has much more to do with the potential value of the pick and how many other gaps we could fill in the roster with the picks we might get in return. Since we appear to be rebuilding in a scorched earth mode we need new faces on the D-line, O-line, receiving, secondary, running game and kicker too. As much as the Colts (and any franchise) need a great QB, we need a team underneath that QB to make it work. Let's say we take Luck and have a pourous O-line. A season of 50+ sacks could leave us with a broken QB, and we've blown the value of that #1 pick. I've always felt that you must build a team from the ground up, and the D-line/O-line are the foundation for anything in that regard, not the QB.

  11. And honestly, I feel worse for Luck coming in. So much of this fan base is gonna take their rage out on him when he comes in and throws a pick or doesn't complete a pass when in reality, it wasn't his fault. He was just being the best player he could be in college. Not his fault that the Polians built a team that depended so much on one player. Luck is going to mess up and have his rookie mistakes but if the likes of Andy Dalton and Cam Newton can come in and have a decent amount of success off the bat, I believe Luck can too. Just don't expect him to be the savior overnight. Give him a chance.

Regardless of Peyton, the Colts should still pass on Luck and RGIII. They've gutted the team, if they get a high profile QB to 'replace' Peyton, that QB will forever be the 'rebound' relationship for the fans and the franchise. Not a good way to begin a careeer, or a franchise re-build. They need to rebuild the team on fundamentals, and start with a Qb that can help guide the team well enough to solidify the bedrock of the future franchise, then draft a franchise QB later.

But that's not what will happen, and Luck will forever be dogged by the sense of being the rebound from the breakup with Peyton. I'm sure that he will utterly relish that role.

  12. I just want to say I am tired of so called, "Colts Fans" calling other fans, not true loyal Colts fans. If your a fan of one player or numerous players your a fan. Everyone has there reasons for why they are Colts fans and it's not for one person to say what you have to be or do to be a fan. No matter if you've been a fan for 1 year or 30, your a fan. No matter if you go to the games or stay home and watch on tv. Some of you so called Colts fan diehards should be ashamed of yourselves and are nothing more than hipocrits.

Peyton Manning was the greatest player to ever put on a Colts jersey. He did more for this franchise and this City than probable anyone has in the history of the league. I know he helped build the NFL to the level it is today. It's only logical that people are invested and they gave there hearts to support this team because they believed in loyality, respect and character and all the great things Peyton Manning brought into our lives. You can't just replace that from the hearts and minds of your fanbase. In life there are things that are just known to be right things to do and keeping Manning was one of those things when it comes to sports and fan support.

I've been a Colts fan for 27 years so I have seen and been through a lot. I was a fan before Manning came but I was also loyal to the team. I supported them in the bad and the good years. I have sacrificed family and friendship to support my Colts. I have made huge financial sacrifices and have only missed three home games in 18 years with 2 of those coming this year. I'm tired of all the ^cowpatties^. Time will tell but I think Irsay has made the biggest mistake of his life and will forever be reminded of his this business decision. He won't be remembered for winning the Super Bowl, as an owner, but for being the guy that released Peyton Manning, the face of his franchise and the league for several years. In sports you strive to put yourself in a situation to succeed and by doing this he has only put himself in a situation to fail. By releasing Manning he has divided his fanbase, he has showed dishonesty in the way he handled the entire situation and he has put all his hope into one player bringing his franchise back to glory. That isn't a situation to succeed but a situation to fail.

Being a true Colts fan goes way beyond just supporting the organization and it's decision's without doubt but also standing up and voicing your disgust when you feel wronged. I think the majority of the fan base is with me here. They feel cheated, and unappreciated as a voice. You can only invest your heart and soul into something for so long before you become numb to everything and it no longer becomes as important in your life. To all Colts fans, I'm with ya, I'm hurt, I'm doubting my support, I'm asking myself "why" anymore but only you can say weather you want to support this team anymore. I loved Peyton Manning and I never thought he would be released. I've thought about selling my season ticket's and just staying home because of my anger and hatred of Mr. Irsay for doing this. I don't know if I want to support Irsay and this franchise anymore but only time will heal my feelings and only I can make that choice. It irks me that any Colts fan can call someone else a none fan because were all fans for different reason's.

The next time the, so called true Colts fans, can't watch the Colts on TV because the games are blacked out, or we have suffered through numerous season's of losing, or the downtown tailgating isn't what it once was and we are no longer a team with an identity and a hope of winning, let alone making the playoff's, I think you'll remember this day. The day the heart and soul of the Colts franchise was broken by the mismanagement of one person. Mr. Irsay, hire someone to run your team don't try and do it like you did prior to Pollian and Manning because it didn't work out very well. Sad, Sad days! Everytime Manning took the field we all believed we had a chance to win, how do we feel now????????????????????

    Excellent post.

  13. Get over it you cry babies. He's gone. The king is dead, long live the king. One funny itme raised yesterday on the NFL network was the following; "Indianapolis should rent a Mayflower truck and drop Manning off in Baltimore". (If you were around when the Colts snuck out of Baltimore you will get that.)

Hats off to Manning as yesterday we saw what a class act he is. You rarely see anyone in pro sports thank so many people while not bragging on themselves about how great they are. You #18 and "Old High Tops" #19 have brought great joy and great heartache and I am fortunate to be a Colt fans sine 1957. The Colts are very fortunate to follow up with a kid like Luck. Look at Denver since Elway left and Miami since Marino left and San Franscico since Montana split. We will be OK, trust me.

P.S. Hey Brady, he ain't out of your hair yet!

Calling people cry babies isn;t helping, and it's really quite insulting.

  14. I think it is okay to be upset.

It is still very fresh - you dn't just wipe out 14 years away. Yes this is sports and we get attached to people.

Indeed, and anyone who wants to berate or criticize those who are upset, needs to reexamine themself. The same goes for anyone that wishes to berate those who are upset claiming that they are Peyton fans, not Colts fans. That crap needs to stop.

And yeah, for anyone in any doubt, I *am* still very upset.

  15. In the big picture, $28,000,000 is not much compared to what Peyton has done for Indianapolis, and the state of Indiana. How much revenue was drawn in by the recent Super Bowl? I recall Irsay saying something along the lines that he want's Peyton to be the highest paid player in the NFL, not that long ago, where is the loyalty? Where are they getting all of these folks on TV that say "I understand that is all business". Why are they not showing all of our dissapointment in Jim, because of his greed. Peyton wanted to stay, Reggie wanted him to stay! They say he can play anywhere next year, except in Indianapolis, I think he should still retire here, it's not too late. What about PTO days, he never used one until last year, 14 yrs. without missing a snap! Come on!

Our disappointment is inconvenient and so it is not shown. I believe it is called shaping the discussion.

  16. This is tearing our fan base apart.

No, I don't believe it is. It's healthy for our fanbase to understand who they support and why. What is hurtful to our fanbase is the point of view that says that someone who is a fan of Peyton Maning the player is somehow automatically not a real Colts fan. This debate or discussion about whether someone is or is not a real fan is very divisive and entirely subjective. It's also very likely to inflame passionate debate. I wish that people could accept that decisions such as this generate very strong feelings among a lot of fans, and those fans have every right to come here and post about it. I don't see the point of those arguing that you're somehow not a Colts fan if you're upset though.

  17. If they ban people who joined that week, should they also ban all the people who joined here because of Manning? It's basically the same thing. You have Luck fans, then you have Manning fans, then you have Colts fans. You mentioned "real" colts fans, imo a real colts fan sticks with the team regardless. That means when popular players are let go, you thank them, never forget the memories, wish them well, and at the end of the day still support the Colts. I get the feeling several will no longer support the Colts, and they will use excuses like "the Colts aren't who i thought they were" or "they no longer do things the right way". When in reality, these people never were truly Colts fans, they were a fan of a player. So naturally when said player leaves, so does the "fan". This was to be expected.

No one get's banned for expressing how they feel. This whole discussion of Manning fans, Luck Fans, Colts Fans, *real* Colts fans and all the rest is the hieght of stupidity. No one has the right to question anyone's support or 'fan-hood' for a team or player. So just stop it, everyone.

As for the colts not being how I thought they were, the clearly (in my mind) are not. It's not an excuse, it's an opinion. If I wanted to cease being a fan of the Colts there are certainly easier options available. But again, in your statements about excuses you're again suggesting that people who express a particular opinion are not really fans of the team. I say, take that back, because you're in no position to make that judgement.

  18. What an over-reaction. Outstandingly naive, and full of assumptions. If you really think all this, then you really should move on from the Colts, or any other team. If it brings this kind of 'hate' into your life, it can't be good for you. And I'm sure you don't deserve to have such feelings. Especially about a bunch of men running around on a field......

Oh, ouch, I've been called niave. I feel so destroyed.

  19. Please relax. Do not take offense. But I don't get the whole "I'm not cheering for the Colts anymore because Manning is gone".

You can not get that all you like because I didn't say that. I said that the colts franchise has acted in ways I did not think that they would. Whether Peyton Manning is QB or not the Colts are the Colts. But, the colts I have seen since the end of the season are not the Colts I grew to love. I don't get the same sense or feeling from the organization. To me the Colts were the good guys of the NFL, the white hat wearing good guys, that do things the right way, every time regardless of the cost. I don't believe that the Colts are that franchise right now.

  20. Acting a bit spoiled? How about expressing how I feel? But because I don't like a decision that you apparently do like, I'm a bit spoiled? Seems to me that you're a bit cold and analytical. Is there Vulcan blood running through your viens?
