  1. I never in understood the attention young Shipley got here...seemed like a good man but a backup

And we all have to bow to Grigson's knowledge of offensive line play.

Then you haven't been reading the forum.

The general opinion is that Shipley outplayed Satele(which is no major accomplishment considering how much Satele stunk it up). Satele continued to get the starts despite Shipley's performance. People began to root for Shipley over Satele and created a fan base. His supporters then got upset by the trade because they feel Shipley deserves a roster spot over Satele.

Pretty simple if you read a little of the forum.

You should now be able to understand. You don't have to agree with it, but it's explained simply enough to be understood.

  2. They do not make statements like that and then trade back. He has painted himself into a box. He didn't have to say anything about trading back, but he did. Why would he tip his real hand? He wouldn't. Its a week until the draft so don't believe anything you hear or read.

Why wouldn't he announce he's willing to trade back? Now he's officially let other teams know that if they have a player on their board they want then the colts are willing to trade back.

Some of your other views have me stumped as well.

For example: You  asked (in summary)how does a player get better at 30 versus 24? It's not the player that gets better. It's the value of the pick that gets better. You not only get a player that you wanted, you also got additional picks to get more players you wanted.

And the idea that a player would get his feelings hurt if a team picked him at 40 because they traded back from 24 is a concern for a GM had me laughing until tears streamed down my face. You don't hear 4th round picks whining and asking why the team that drafted him didn't use their 2nd round pick on him if they know that they like him. These players are happy to get drafted. PERIOD.

As you've said, everyone is entitled to their own opinions and views. Grigson has been pretty open and up front about his plans and goals so in my opinion his statement reads pretty clear: If there's not a player at 24 that he feels can come in and make an immediate impact, then he's going to try to trade down for more value.

  3. I gotta say, I think whoever will be starting at RG isn't on our roster yet. I'm seeing a lot of potential in rounds 3 and 4 for good interior linemen.

It's really really rare for 3rd or 4th round linemen to come in and be starters. There's a thread around here somewhere with a quote from Grigson about the time needed for linemen to develop. IMO a starting lineman out of college is a stud which means he'll go in the 1st. Not saying it can't happen. Just unlikely IMO.

  4.

After 4 years of failure it's time to cut bait, short of cutting him and eationg his 2 million dollar salary I would trade him for a 7th round pick if we can even find any takers...His 1 attribute is speed...He has zero vision, no awareness, no power, is injury prone and made of glass, and is below average at best as a receiver as he always is too worried about getting hit and turns head to check for defenders and drops many balls that could have been big plays..3 out of his 4 years his avg per carry was under 4 yards..3 out of 4 years he has run for less than 500 yards...The most receptions he has had in a season is 20..The most TD's he has had in a season is 5, and last year he had 9 catches and 1 TD and for all his speed his longest run was 19 yards...Their are 20 backs in rounds 1 thru 7 that could come in day 1 and be more productive..I would even rather have Denard Robinson in rounds 6 or 7 and convert him to RB and he would provide more production and big plays than Brown...Thoughts and Opinions???

His longest run is actually 80 yards in the season to forget 2011 that run sealed the colts first win in that season so I don't know where you are getting that his longest run is only 19 yards.

    look closer.....

  5. Neither did Sorgi... but he still held the clipboard just right!  Harnish is just fine....if you can find an veteran cheap, maybe bring him to camp....but I like Harnish and what he showed last preseason....

I think the term "cheap veteran" is difficult to accept for me because Harnish is set to make vet minimum this year in his contract($480K). So anyone else we get will cost more and won't necessarily give us any better chance at winning should Luck miss any games.

  6. Of all the free agent qb's available, I think we're better off with what we have as backup.  He's just as likely to win or lose us a game as any other FA qb available and he doesn't cost us much. I don't see the point in bringing in someone else.

  7. The reason kickers get so much focus when they miss or make is because every time they are on the field they are there to put points on the board. Kickers get about as many field goal attempts in a season as quarterbacks do passes in a game. So a miss stands out more than a bad throw or dropped pass.

But,no matter how much you love "Mr. Clutch" you have to see he's in the twilight of his career. He has been rather mediocre this season at 78.8% made. Not saying he needs to be canned, but at his age, and his performance this season, I wouldn't be against seeking out a replacement either via free agency or draft.

FUN FACT: 7 yrs in Indy Vinatieri 1 season above 90% and 83.8% (150/179) his time here.

Vanderjagt 8 yrs in Indy 3 seasons above 90% and 87.5% (217/248) his time here.

  8. I saw this last night. I think it's an old pic...he was tweeting about the playoffs starting and is wearing a Colts Championship hat in the pic, which can't be from this year. I can't tell what year it's from but my guess is SB or 2009.

I read elsewhere that he's having back problems again. Give the man the benefit of the doubt...he's goofy but nothing suggests he is heavily using again.

Edit: did a little research and he is wearing the SB Champ hat from 2006 season so pic prob from 2007. http://www.amazon.com/Indianapolis-Football-Official-Reebok-Locker/dp/B001G0JU18

My guess is the pic was taken in the early morning after the win back in his hotel.

Never seen a hotel with pics like that on the wall.

Hope surgery goes ok and he can manage the pain without relapsing.

  9. When is/was the replay? I still have the game DVRed but they throw in interviews and radio broadcasts.

I saw Patty Mac fall to his rump during a punt and a Texan at his feet. Was that a missed roughing the kicker or just coincidence? (If you have time to indulge me) I forgot to go back and look at it and now I can't. Someone in my house thinks criminal minds is more important than football lol.

  10. Fleener at least picked someone up. Justice didn't block anyone.

Is it Fleener love or Justice hate that has you blinded? You've said this more than once in more than one thread. With the way the play turned out there's no way Justice could have blocked anyone. The man he was going to block got intercepted by Fleener and the man Fleener initially blocked was already behind him by that time. So who else could he have blocked? Whether Fleener was suppose to stick with his initial block or Justice was suppose to drop back to pick him up, we'll probably never know, but to continue badmouthing a player for not blocking anyone when there's no way he could have is just silly.

My view would be that between a sixth year lineman and a rookie tight end, odds are heavily favoring it being a rookie mistake. :2c:

  11. LOL this is too funny. He's a rookie and going to make mistakes. There are a host of other factors that are hurting his completion percentage as well. How many times have we watched him get hit as he throws? How many times has he had to throw it away? How many drops? This year he'll most likely continue to be near the bottom in that stat. But if you want reassurance that things will get better as he learns and becomes more comfortable with his receiving corps, then here are his college completion stats:

    2009 56.3%

    2010 70.7%

    2011 71.3%

Give the kid a break. There was another rookie here that set the rookie interceptions record and only had a 56.7% completion rate as a number one draft pick. And he's on the GOAT list.

  12. I say hire him as the OC or QB coach

I say if he isn't healthy by march 7th release him. Then sign him as the highest paid QB coach ever ($28 MIL), He can then mentor Luck because who better than the GOAT to mentor your franchise rookie QB. Then if Peyton becomes healthy enough to play, fire him as QB coach, then sign him to a new contract identical to his current one minus the bonus which he got for being QB coach. You've then succeeded in keeping Peyton and saving $7 MIL a year cap space ( bonus over 4 years).

I know it's *ic and never gonna happen. But I'm a dreamer. LOL

  13. http://www.stampedeb...oaching-vacancy

If this is true, I hope we don't waste a whole lot of time in bringing him in. He's already interviewed in Miami and Tampa Bay and I think the way he leads that defense in Cinnci would be perfect for our team. Irsay and Grigson have talked about finding that "leader of men" and Zimmer fits that description perfectly. The Bengals players rave about him and he has consistently had that defense up there in the top ten, even this year with a rookie QB. Lets get him.

Sorry but I have to ask when did rookie QBs start playing a role in defensive ranking? LOL.

  14. I don't think Tressel would be a bad choice as HC. I doubt that is the route they are going though or IMO we would have heard something by now. I'll wait until the middle of next week to rule it out comepletely.

I do find it funny that people comepletely rule him out because he doesn't have NFL experience. He does have HC experience. And I would gamble that most of the candidates we are looking at have plenty of NFL experience in OC or DC positions, but they don't have HC experience. Either way is a gamble. You interview and pick who you think is best.

  15. Keep in mind, Grigson only handled scouting. The Eagles acquired Vick as a free agent so it's unlikely he was the driving force behind aquiring Vick.

I'm trying not to read too much into what his tendancies will be since it's hard to know who exactly was the driving force between certain personell decisions the Eagles have made during his time there.

I agree we don't know and must patiently wait and see. Guess I'm just paranoid. I don't want that type of QB here. I prefer a pocket passer.

  16. I was one of those that assumed we would pick Luck. Now I'm not so sure with Grigson in place. What's causing my doubt is Vick. Is this the kind of QB Grigson likes? If so, does this mean we trade down a few spots and get RG3? HMMM.
