  1. I would love to land Mack but not at the price I believe will be required to sign him. I would really rather have a stud guard to be honest. Maybe it's my own misperception but it seems good running teams have a versatile guard that can stand in and create a hole or pull and get in front to make a hole.

  2. Just looked at ESPN and gotta say this article sums it up pretty much.....

    http://espn.go.com/blog/indianapolis-colts/post/_/id/4615/a-look-at-colts-offensive-line-depth

The final paragraph pretty much nails it:

"I’m not sold that those will be the only three centers the Colts look at. It’s not in general manager Ryan Grigson’s blood to sit still and not look to make more moves. It likely won’t be Alex Mack, but don’t be surprised if there’s another center on the roster before the start of training camp."

  3. PHIL COSTA???

Im a fan that majors and minors in Colts football and I'm sorry but the name Phil Costas being signed on day 3 of free agency is a big deal. Ok, he could be the man in 6 months, but today I don't understand why we're signing backups (AT A POSITION OF NEED) on day 3.

I have to treat this guy right now as the potential starter, right? Or why are we even worried about him now. Grigs being an ex-OL is going to make him think he can "make" a star, watch.

The only thing I can really reach for is somehow this plays into the A Mack negotiations, but how, i don't know.

  ROFLMAO Grigson now is the OL coach as well as GM? LOL

     Nailed it there bruh.

  4. The title of this thread is misleading. He is not being released. He has asked for his release because he does not want to restructure his contract. He has a base salary of $7.5 million with a cap hit of $11.6 million(per nfl.com).

It is an interesting situation because Willfork can't afford to sit out due to his age and the patriots can't afford to pay him. So my question to you cap gurus.... If they oblige him and release him they save $7.5 and eat $4.1 this year in cap space? I would look for the patriots to try shopping around for a trade for someone else to eat his contract. So I think our chances are slim to get him.

  5. I really don't think Decker is a bad receiver but he is not worth number #1 money IMO.  Peyton is very good at inflating stats for any receiver. I mean he made Blair White look good for a season. But it's not really safe to assume that Decker would require #1 money to come here. Didn't Welker get less from Denver than his New England offer because he felt slighted? It was only a couple hundred $K if I remember correctly but still we shouldn't assume anything.

But do we really need a number one receiver? Don't we have a replacement for Reggie already? I mean he's by no means a 6'3"-6'5" 200+ pound speed demon that everyone thinks you have to be in order to be a true number one. But isn't the number one the guy that averages around 100 catches a season and between 1000-1500 yards a season? Unless you have an offense like Denver had last year that is pretty typical for a number one on most teams. And we have someone that is pretty close to that already with 82 catches and 1038 yards. Yes TY Hilton is small, but he plays the slot and outside. He fights for contested balls and wins. You don't have to be over 6' to be a number one.

I think if Decker comes here for the right price then great because the more talent the better our offense will be. But I don't think we need him.

  6. I'll pick an offense and defense as well....

Offense I say Xavier Nixon. Longshot I know, but the kid showed hints of being a good run blocker when he wasn't busy looking like a rookie,

Defense I say Delano Howell. He looked promising pre-injury. Hopefully he can be what Bethea was in his prime.

  7. He wasn't all that impressive. A few big plays, sure, but he didn't live up to expectations. He's still young, so I'm not opposed to keeping him around as a project, but we can certainly do much better,

What expectations? He went undrafted and got cut by the Bills? How can you expect anything more than a project player out of him?

  8. so being one of the best gm's in nfl history means nothing because he now is retired and taking it easy as a media analyst. you don't lose knowledge.

His football IQ is irrelevant to my post. I was merely correcting erroneous information to enlighten dudeski.

  9. Polian = NFL people

    yes.

Last I checked, Polian was a media analyst, which means he would be part of the group called media people. To be part of the group called NFL people you need to be gainfully employed by the NFL or one of it's 32 teams.

    Just doing my civic duty......

  10. Your right, Donald just got lucky.

Never said he just got lucky. I said he was the beneficiary of poor tackling. It's rather odd really. In years past we as Colts fans were the ones screaming and yelling at the TV for our defense to actually make tackles as we watch another teams runner go on long run after long run.  But back on point, It was a nice run. It took a lot of skill to stay in bounds on that run, especially at the end when he stiff armed the defender and then had to hurdle him.

  11. And Brown can thank himself for breaking two tackles on that TD run

You can call them broken tackles if it makes you feel better, but it was a flat out missed tackle. The first guy wasn't really in position and dove catching DB;s foot enough to make him stutter step. The second one who should've had the tackle just flat out missed. The last guy at the goal line was shoved off balance enough by TY's block that he went down rather easily with a nice little stiff arm.

  12. I saw some improvements from TRich today. One play that stood out was when the hole wasn't there and he bounced left to another gap and made a negative play into a positive. He was moving the ball well in the last part of the game when we were trying to run down the clock. So while I am still not thrilled with giving up a first for him I'm encouraged by improvements.

As someone else pointed out Brown and RIch had similar production prior to Brown's big run. And speaking of the big run, Brown needs to send a couple thank you cards. One should go to Luck for the audible with only six in the box. The other should go to the Chief's player that whiffed on the open field tackle.

  13. Maybe not so much in this game but there have been others where I got frustrated with the play not to lose.mantra. Run, run, pass for 3rd and 10. One of those first two downs needs to be a shot down field to keep the defense honest. If they still fear the pass they can't stack the box as much.

  14. We lost to a very good team and it really could have gone either way. The Colts and the Dolphins are the future of the AFC and that writing has been on the wall for well over a year now. They are going to win some games against us and we are going to win some against them. Get used to it.

    On some positive notes:

    1. Landry is the fastest person on the field at all times. No offensive player we have played against can outrun him. He destroyed Brian Hartline early in the second quarter.

    2. Hugh Thornton replaced injured Thomas at LG and played very well. We have a 10-15 year starting guard and we got him with the 86th pick in the draft. He made a play on the second drive that was amazing. On third down just before we kicked the field goal; Thornton dives through the air, over the top of Castonzo, and saves Luck from getting hit.

    3. Fleener is finally getting it at the NFL level. I made it an emphasis to watch him closely at the game to try to understand why he isn’t further ahead. Well, sometimes it takes players longer, and my conclusion is that he just has a different learning curve. He is a nightmare of a mismatch. On his first touchdown reception, he and Reggie were running a Hi-Lo route, and I thought Luck was looking at Reggie all the way. I said to myself; Please do not throw that ball Drew. Fleener cleared and Luck tossed it perfectly over the top. Fleener has some skills and he was robbed of a two touchdown performance.

    4. We saw what our pass rush is and it was good. A team should never be upset with a 5 sack day. Over a 16 week season that equals 80 sacks, and would break an NFL record that has stood for 30 years. We had a few different segments of back-to-back plays where pressure on the quarterback had huge impacts on the game, causing Tannehill to fumble a few times. One fumble was recovered by the Colts and the other was on third down and forced the Dolphins to punt.

    5. Bradshaw ran the ball well. He is a tough runner in between the tackles and not easy to bring down. He also proved to be an effective receiver on check downs.

    6. Bjoern Werner had a few nice plays and got some pressure early in the second quarter to get a half a sack. The crowd absolutely loved it. Give him time. Remember, we took our time with Freeney too.

    7. We are getting pressure on punters and kickers. That early Punt that only traveled 25 yards was because of pressure from the right side. On the final play of the first half, we had three players getting pressure on the kick. We will block a kick or punt soon.

    8. Luck’s pocket presence has always been outstanding, but he is getting even better every game. He moved great in the pocket to buy more time. He amazes me with his ability to escape would be sacks and get first downs.

    9. Our offensive line enjoys run blocking. On the Bradshaw touchdown run, every player on the OL was more excited than I have seen them in 10 years. McGlynn, Cherilus, and Satele were jumping up and down in the end zone.  This line has taken a beating by fans for years, and deservingly so, but the swagger is changing and it is very noticeable.

    10. Griff Whalen made some nice plays. On the interception to Wayne, he was wide open, but Luck was moving in the pocket and did not see him. The young man knows how to get open and shows good hands.

    The Dolphins made some plays:

They get paid too and they are not just there to let us do what we want. Brent Grimes made plays on the first drive that resulted in us getting no points. I can’t believe I am typing this, but Wheeler made some huge plays in the game. There was a moment when I said to everyone, I really do not remember Wheeler making this many plays as a Colt. Wheeler tipped a ball near the end of the third quarter headed for TY, and had that ball got there then TY scores from the 50, as no one was there to catch him.

This methodical offense slows down the game and will take some time for Colts fans to adjust to. Just relax and enjoy the ride. Before we know they will all be grown up.

    Things to improve:

Back-to-back plays – In the first half, Bethea went for the pick and missed, allowing Clay to make a huge play all the way down to the Colts 10. On the very next play Vontae let Miller run right around him for a 10 yard score. These 2 plays resulted in 7 points.

My only criticism is that I am not a fan of the sweeps. I think we are built more to just run north and south. That is just my opinion, and maybe something I need to have patience until we fully develop.

In the first quarter, we outgained the Dolphins in rushing yards, passing yards, had more first downs, and owned the time of possession, but we trailed 14-3.  We also dominated the statistics at half time with over 18 minutes in time of possession, 16 first downs, 74 rushing yards, 241 passing yards, and 315 yards of offense, all without turning the ball over. We are a young team, in a new offense, and we will learn to complete drives and stay consistent throughout the entire game. To put it as simple as possible, this game was the tale of two half’s.

The Dolphins played a good game. Give credit where it is due and move on already. San Fran will be a good game too.

They actually spoke of this during the broadcast. Vontae was in coverage of the receiver on a crossing route and Landry committed to the inside run. When the run bounced outside both were out of position. Should Vontae have recognized run sooner and released coverage? IDK. But he was doing his job. That one is not on him.

  15. The goal EVERY year is to win it all. It's ALWAYS a team goal, along with winning the division, and making the playoffs. The coaches coach the players to believe that they can win it all. And of course you're going to get reaction to losing to the Dolphins. They are a team the we expected to beat.

  16. He was definitely laying the wood today. I thought our secondary did well overall. Vontae Davis did an awesome job, I know this not from any special analysis, but simply because I never heard his name. That means he wasn't thrown at or called out for a missed tackle or blown assignment and he was doing his job and doing it well. It did seem to me like we gave Toler lots of safety help. And he seemed to need it. Maybe that is part of the scheme giving him freedom to be bold and go after the ball. Not a coach so can't say for sure, But overall decent day by secondary.

  17. I've been to only two NFL games before. One was at LOS last year and the other at Paul Brown a few years ago. Paul Brown can get a bit windy being so close to the river but it's not a bad venue. When I went the Bengals weren't a good team so they were very polite to away fans. Don't know if that's changed since they are a better team now.

  18. To each their own, but my preference is to be up a little higher, between the corner and the 10 yard line. It affords a perfect angle and distance for watching plays unfold and for avoiding too much foreshortening in either direction.

I'm currently in 404, and wouldn't mind sliding a little further out of the corner, but the view is great.

I sat in 433 once and loved the angle. Wouldn't have minded down a level or two, but really enjoyed it.

And for the OP:The Colts site has an interactive seat map for selling season tickets. You can check the view from various seats and pan around to check the view.

  19. Excellent write up Superman. I agree with most all of it.

I agree with your Landry choice as "immediate impact", but I think Sheppard at MLB is my under the radar pick. With Angerer's injury history, he'll get a chance to shine and he'll steal the starting spot.

And to those down on Tannehill, give it a rest. It's too early to tell anything yet. Need I remind you that many years ago the Colts drafted a quarterback number one overall and he didn't do to well his rookie year. He had mid 50% completion percentage, set and still holds the rookie interception record, and ended the season a measly 3-13. But he turned out to be The GOAT. Time will tell what Tannehill will evolve into.

  20. I find it funny when so many use the terms camp body or camp fodder. They bring these guys in for evaluation and invite them to camp to create competition. While most of the time these guys aren't creating competition for #1 or #2 on the depth chart, there is indeed competition for those 3rd, 4th, or even 5th spots. You bring in as many as you can, whether it be a guy you think just needs some coaching or maybe a new environment and you pick the best of them. Because when it's all said and done, you only get 53 to bring to battle. And you want the best 53 you can get.
