  1. Nfl.com gives a reasonable explanation.  In short the chiefs were a lot more vertical in Maclins first year versus last year's short game which spread the ball around a lot more and created more production for other WRs and TEs on the team. And the cap savings will be more than the dead money which will be split across this year and next. So paying top dollar for a WR that didn't fit their scheme and whose production was almost the same as multiple cheaper options on the team didn't make sense.

  2. Harnish kept getting three and outs and had 2 turnovers that put them in scoring position (one was a fumble TD)

I guess my point is that you picked a bad example to blame Harnish. While his play was horrid, our 3rd/4th string defense couldn't stop their 3rd/4th string offense and gave up a 26 point lead. If we would've had a bit more talent depth wise and held them to field goals instead, we would've walked away with a win.

  3.

Weird timeout at the end of the first quarter, but it seemed like Luck was having a tough time getting the plays from the sideline; I saw him looking over several times. The onside kick seems to be a pre-determined go-or-no kind of call, so I don't know how much of that goes to the game day coaching, but that's a good install that Pagano says they worked on through camp. B, good to hang on, but it would be nice to finish this game off early

I think the timeout was because they were unclear of the rules. The play clock and the game clock were so close they weren't sure if they would get a delay of game penalty or not. At least that's what the game announcers said. Sounds like a reasonable argument to me.

  4. So if stats mean nothing then I guess Trent did pretty well last season ...

His best game to date in a Colts uniform was average yards with 2 fumbles. Maybe fumbling the ball is also just a meaningless stat. Yards don't matter, fumbles don't matter, what matters ? TD's ? Trent doesn't really get those either plus they are stats.

Tell me a player who has bad stats that is any good. That's like saying "my child only gets F's and D's on their report card, but should still be in the running for an academic scholarship ". It don't work that way.

We are all graded on our performances one way or another.

True enough in a sense. But stats aren't as important to the coaches. The players are graded when the coaches break down film and see who executed plays properly.

  5. I see what you mean and it is a good point, in the end he was just playing soldier for a couple of hours, they do more than that in the movies.  Counter point, somewhat, the uniform is earned in the fact that to get an official uniform with name tag you have to enlist.  Even that would not have been so bad but it was his horrible salute while in uniform, if you're going to play soldier than at least he should try to play it properly.

I still don't see it. If I drop out of basic week one, I still get to keep my uniforms. Did i earn them?   I will say though if he had worn a beret then the gloves would've been off for that.  :catfight:

  6. While I know Reggie has mad respect for our soldiers, as a veteran , part of me still finds the fact he wore the uniform without earning it distasteful. And yes I feel that way about every civilian doing it, not just him.

meh.... I don't see the big deal. The uniform isn't earned.  Its just government issue. It's the rank and the medals that are earned. He wasn't wearing either of those.

  7. The Tennessee tape is his worst tape.

Of course you'd say that when that's the only one I watched.  ;) Kidding.

Won't deny that everyone has a bad game once in a while. I'll just allow myself to be pleasantly surprised when he's improved drastically once the season starts.  :goodluck:

  8. Admittedly I only watched the Tennessee game from the Jackson videos thread here, but what little I saw I wasn't impressed. His athletic ability allows him to get to the heart of the play, whether it be rushing the quarterback or tracking down the ball carrier. That part was indeed impressive. But he seems to have an all or nothing tackling style that's almost Landry-esque, He's always trying to deliver the big hit and misses just as much as he hits. There were too many arm flailing tackle attempts, reaching back to trip up the guy he just whiffed on. He doesn't wrap up at all. While the thought of watching him deliver big hits is exciting, the thought of our opponents turning a play for negative yardage into a big gain because he whiffed trying to knock the other guy out of his cleats is disheartening.

  9. I'd be really curious to see that article.  Have a link?  I've agreed with the general hypothesis that Holmes will have been better and more ready than anyone we would have drafted this year as well.  OL is one of those positions where you're constantly reading and adjusting, and you've got to know everyone else's assignment as well.  It's not something that you can generally pick up quickly.  A split second hesitation is too late, and for most OL rookies, even top picks, that's a pretty tall order to expect them to carry out.  They're seeing blitzes that they rarely if ever saw in college, so it just takes a bunch of reps before they can get comfortable and just react, instead of thinking then reacting.    Some do it well fairly quickly, but that's more the exception rather than the rule.

BTW: I don't know that I've welcomed you to the forums yet, so consider this my late warm welcome!

Honestly I don't have a link. But I see that my train of thought derailed and caused me to omit a fragment of my sentence. He graded out better than all but one of this years. The writer of the article didn't seem to think very highly of this year's class of centers was my interpretation. Because though there were positives about Holmes there were plenty of negatives and yet the writer still placed him above almost all of this year's class.

  10. Was not impressed watching the first video.

Me neither. Seems he needs some coaching in tackling. Saw several plays he was in position to make a tackle for a loss or short gain and did a Landry like attempt at tackling with similar results.

  11. Two things:

    1) In order for Holmes to become that kind of player, he has to be given a chance to play, right? Why draft another guy before you've given him a shot? Especially at that position? It's not a need at this point, especially in the draft.

    2) In 2014, Holmes is as good, if not better, IMO than any of the centers in this year's draft. Again, that's my opinion, but the point is that even if center was a need, drafting one doesn't make it any less of a need. Holmes is the guy. Let him be the guy.

I agree with you wholeheartedly. We won't know what we have until we let the man play. With the past year in an NFL environment being coached by our staff he'll be far more combat ready than anyone we could have drafted. I read an article somewhere this offseason comparing last year's center class versus this year's and Holmes graded out better than all but one if I remember correctly. So I'm ready to see what we have. And if Holmes doesn't work out, some pundits claim center is Mewhort's strongest position.

  12. I don't think AC is bad. I had high hopes for him and Ijalana when we drafted them. To hear the pundits that draft year we got two future hall of famers when we drafted them. So I am a bit disappointed he hasn't been more than just adequate honestly. I'm hoping that Xavier Nixon makes a solid year two jump and creates good competition for the spot. Maybe we find out if AC is our long term answer there or if we have a new candidate to lead us in the future.

  13. Have you ever heard of client patient confidentiality?

You got two different confidentialities going there. Attorney/client and Doctor/patient. lol.

But hypnotism isn't a medically recognized treatment. And no special medical degree is required. So there should be no Doctor/patient confidentiality. It's more like service provider/customer.

  14. All the hate and negativity in here. Geez.....

It's a neat tidbit even though we don't know in what context he may have seen the hypnotist. Since the guy was doing a prom show it's more than likely it was part of some entertainment.

But who knows. Some people do see hypnotists to stop addictive or compulsive behavior. Maybe Luck is trying to stop throwing picks in the playoffs. lol

  15. I was pointing out that with Cleveland current situation anything that falls under the TT of 10 mil the Browns would match

You can"t assume anything under 10/yr will get matched, That's absurd. There are too many variables in a  contract to state as fact that they'll match anything under 10/yr. Really it all boils down to the length of the offer and the amount guaranteed.

I think it'll take a long term deal for 8-9 mil per year with an insane amount guaranteed to steal him away. I think any team that really wants him is going to have to try to scare Cleveland with the amount of guaranteed money. And then Mack can Haynesworth his way to the bank. lol

  16. It would fall under the Transition Tag

ok I'll admit I didn't read the whole thread so I apologize if someone points this out already. But here goes.....

I think you're misunderstanding the transition tag. His salary under this year's tag is $10 mil yes, but the avg/yr salary of any contract offer mack accepts doesn't have to be 10+ mil. Maybe a team offers 3 years $18 mil 15 guaranteed. If he accepts then Cleveland can match it and keep him or not match and let him walk to his new team.

  17. Sure u can call it a bust And yes that same draft that year one when drafted stunk year two or year three they can get better,,,,,,,,,,We are still waiting for Grigson's 2nd drsft to develop..............I feel Werner has the potential to develop very well and be a force ,,,,,,,,The Oline from draft 2nd year,,,,,,,,,,Better get better in a fast way,,,A bad draft can set a team back many, many years...........And of coarse in difference years u draft for different needs as the team changes from year to year,,,,,,,,,,,,,But regardless,,,,,,,,,of we had beter picks in year 1 of Grigson then we did in year 2,,,,,,,,,,,Our scouts and personal have to roll w the reality of picking in later rounds and they have to hit it in this draft to keep up w/ the other NFL teams that struck gold in FA and will in this draft also,,,,,,,,,,,,,,Our GM and coachs personal owner has their work cut out for them in this draft a/ the meager picks and later picks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! MAKE IT GOOD  COLTS

Thank you for making it very clear that I need not bother reading your posts, You have proven bereft of football knowledge or common sense in general.

  18. The 2nd year pick MAY BE good in the future but as of now he failed on the 2nd year picks,,,,,,,,,,,And even draft analysis say the same

thing  Sorry to say,,,,,,,,,,Grigson failed year 2 draft ,,,,,,,,,,,,And even some of his free agents have been busts

You can't simply say a draft class may be good in the future and then turn around and call it a bust. It really makes it difficult to take you seriously. But let's pretend you are serious and you do believe last years draft class is and will be a bust so we can explain to you that it is absurd to say so.

Year one, we were worst in the league the previous year so we drafted at the top of each round more or less. We drafted Rd. 1/pick 1, Rd 2/pick 2, Rd 3/pick 1, Rd 3/pick 29 and so on. So four players in the first three rounds for offensive skill positions were drafted. All players who could come in and make an immediate impact.

Now year two is a different story altogether. We made the playoffs the year prior so we drafted near the bottom of each round. We drafted Rd 1/pick 24, Rd 3/pick 24, Rd 4/pick 24, Rd 5/pick 6 and so on. Our round one pick was a 4-3 DE that we picked to play 3-4 OLB. So the move a new position is expected to take time for him to develop. Rounds three and four we pick two offensive lineman. Common knowledge is that OL typically take a season or two to develop. And our fifth rounder was a DT. And a fifth round DT would also be expected to take time to develop.

So to summarize it, saying Grigson's year two draft was a bust based off of the immediate impact that was made by the first is laughable due to the entirely different circumstances surrounding each. The type of players chosen and the position they were chosen played a large part in each.  Year one we were the worst team in the league trying to get players to come in and make and immediate impact to turn the franchise around. Year two we were a playoff team that had the luxury of picking players we could take time to develop into future stars.
