I want to start my mock draft by saying I have huge man-crush on Solomon Thomas from Stanford. I would love to see him rocking the Colts blue next year, unfortunately, it is looking more and more like he will be top 5 pick. It's still early, but if that is the case, I am strongly in favor of trading back to accumulate picks.
Offseason: I am not going to try to play cap specialist and hypothesize at what kind of contract we can hand out. I like Kevin Zeitler, but I doubt we get him. I am starting to come around to the idea of pay Dontari Poe a monster deal to come to Indy. Perhaps Ballard will have a little bit of an inside track on him, who knows. Adding that monster to the middle of the D completely alters the dynamic of the D. We have not had a dominant interior presence like Poe that I can remember.
Trade 1: I could see a team like Oakland looking to trade up to add an impact player like Reuben Foster to their D. Granted, we could also use Reuben Foster, but the value of an extra second round pick is too great for a Colts team with many needs.
Trade 2: I could see moving back for an extra 4th round pick with a team like Pittsburgh or Green Bay, who will likely be in the market for a CB like Sidney Jones or Quincy Wilson who may fall to the 24th pick.
1.) Forrest Lamp OG Western Kentucky
Despite the o-line heavy draft last year, we still have a number of questions on along our offensive line. Lamp has the potential to lock-down the right guard spot for the next 10 plus years and dramatically enhance the run game. Also consider Mewhort is entering a contract year. It is early, but Lamp is looking like a name that will start to climb up draft boards.
2.) TJ Watt OLB Wisconsin
Like many fans who post on this board, I am a big fan of TJ Watt. Regardless of how he tests at the combine, this guy is a tenacious defender who has the potential to dramatically upgrade the defense by finally giving us a legitimate pass rushing threat.
2.) Budda Baker CB/S Washington
I love this guy! He is undersized, but he is a big time competitor and PLAYMAKER!!! Our D is in dire need of a playmaker. Baker reminds me a great deal of Tyrann Mathieu of the Cardinals. Baker will give us some versatility in the secondary.
3.) Daeshon Hall DE Texas A&M
Hall is a bit of a riser after the Senior Bowl. He possesses a lot of untapped potential as a pass-rusher with ridiculous size and athleticism. He reminds me of Danielle Hunter of LSU in 2015 who was taken in the 3rd round by the Vikings, who possessed the traits you want in a pass-rusher but was raw. Hall has the potential to become something special.
4.) Larry Ogunjobi DT Charlotte
Very athletic defensive tackle. He reminds me of Javon Hargrave last year, who was taken by the Steelers in the 3rd round. He is raw, but he has the opportunity to develop into a special player given the athleticism he possesses for his size.
4.) Tarell Basham DE Ohio
Another riser from Senior Bowl week who still seems to be flying under the radar. Basham was a terror in the MAC, which I feel is an underrated conference. Given that we are incredibly thin when it comes to pass rushers, I could see loading up in this draft.
4.) James Conner RB Pitt
I like this guy and I love his story. He came back from beating cancer with a stellar season. He reminds me of Jordan Howard (RB Bears), who was a 5th round pick last year. In a strong running back draft, Conner could slip to the 4th or 5th round. It will be interesting to see what he runs in the forty yard dash.
5.) Jonnu Smith TE Florida International
I have a feeling we are going to lose Jack Doyle in free agency. Given the emergence of Swoope, the money dedicated to Allen, and the needs on D, that may be best. This is a strong TE draft and Smith offers loads of potential. He is an athletic tight end who offers potential to develop into a special player.
6.) Ben Boulware LB Clemson
Tough hard-nosed competitor. He is undersized though and not the best athlete. Has experience on special teams where he could really make his mark.

VERY strong draft!
-
James Conner in the 4th or 5th round. Reminds me of Jordan Howard.
I also like Elijah McGuire from Louisiana-Lafayette in the 5th or 6th round.

Yeah let's neglect the D again for another offensive position.
I would focus on D in the draft.
-
I would be interested in trading back to the early 20's, perhaps with a team like the Giants or Raiders, in exchange for a 2018 second round pick and a fifth or sixth round pick in 2017.
Then, we could take someone like Charles Harris or Takkarist McKinley or possibly trade back with Atlanta or Green Bay for a third round pick. (Similar to Seattle trading back with Denver for a third last year)
-
Cooper Kupp and Carroll Phillips
-
Neither. I would put the money towards Kevin Zeitler instead.
-
I love the Tarell Basham pick on Day 3! He is actually from Ohio University though, not Ohio State.
Not sure if he lasts until the 6th round, but he comes from the underrated MAC and has some potential.
-
Tough to take TJ Watt over Charles Harris. It appears as though TJ Watt will be available in the second round, but it is early.
I like the Derek Rivers pick, but (currently) not in the second round. He seems like he will be a great sleeper pick on Day 3. But if he tears up the combine, who knows.
-
I really like your mock draft, except for Joe Mixon. I believe in second chances but he is a PR nightmare. I like Kareem Hunt and James Conner as potential Day 3 running back picks personally.
If the opportunity to draft two quality pass rushers is available, tough to pass on that.
-
I would have to give this draft a hard pass!
Dalvin Cook has shoulder issues and we can get a good running back on Day 3. Carl Lawson has potential but is injury prone. Eddie Jackson is ok, and I would be fine if he is the BPA in round 3 but I would prefer a corner to a safety this early.

Personally, I am completely opposed to trading our 1st round pick next year. If Luck gets hurt, that could easily be a top 5 pick.
Given the running back depth in this year's draft I would not take a running back in the first round. I have read that Dalvin Cook has a shoulder issue that may lead to a drop as well. Personally, I like Kareem Hunt, James Conner, and Elijah McGuire as third day picks that could impress their rookie year.
I do like the Tony Conner pick. I like his size and versatility. Good value pick!
-
Yeah, I would love for us to draft him, he is a beast. He could be a defensive cornerstone.

So attempt to get a 4th round pick for our former 2 round draft pick who is easily one of our best linemen who's really only been injured this past year? I'll take mewhort over Zeitler.
Absolutely! I have a differing view of Mewhort. He is slow and will only get slower after the knee injury. Trading him allows us to get something for him as opposed to letting him leave via free agency. Joe Haeg has a bright future at guard, he reminds me a lot of Jake Scott, former Colts guard during the Manning era.

I'd be fine with tendering those guys you mention. Not personally a fan of just rolling with the O-line we have with 0 change and/or trading Mewhort, but I know some here will think that way. I think the injury concerns you mention with Lawson are valid. The combine medicals should be able to shed some light on where he's at in regards to that, so I'd only pick him there if he got good reviews from the doctors.
What I am saying is that I would not extend Mewhort and sign Zeitler. One or the other, preferably sign Zeitler and see if a market exists for Mewhort.

You must be thinking of a different D. Poe.
Interesting, I don't follow the Chiefs but I could have sworn I heard on ESPN he was dealing with a significant injury at some point.
Regardless, I would not spend that kind of money on a NT. I would take a look at Dalvin Tomlinson from Alabama in the 2nd or 3rd round instead.
-
I like that you provided a depth chart.
personally, I would tender Swoope and Kerr at the 3rd round level. I like them but would allow them to leave for a 3rd round pick.
I would not extend Mewhort and sign Zeitler given Joe Haeg. Haeg can start at one spot. I would see if we could get a 4th or 5th rounder for Mewhort.
I am not in favor of taking Lawson in the first given his extensive injury history. I am not in favor of taking a running back until day 3 given the depth at the position. I really like the Ejuan Price selection though.
If he is there, I prefer Solomon Thomas in the first.
-
I would be interested in seeing what Zeitler is looking for. Personally, I would look at signing him if it is in the neighborhood of $8 million per and see if Mewhort has any trade value.
-
Given what Damon Harrison received from Giants in free agency last year, I would imagine Poe will carry a hefty price tag. Combine that with his injury history and I would pass.
-
That would be great!
-
I would need all those picks plus the Browns' first round pick in 2018 and 2019 to even bother considering the trade.
Guys like Luck do not come around often. We are fortunate to have him. Unfortunately, Grigson has largely floundered in free agency and the draft.
-
It depends on what QB is available. If I am building a team from scratch starting this year, I would trade back and try to accumulate picks next year and go hard after Josh Rosen.
-
I like the Jabaal Sheard signing. I was hoping we would sign him a couple of years ago. He is one of those slightly under the radar signings that would not command the big bucks.
I also like the Kevin Zeitler signing, but if we sign him I would not extend Mewhort. I am not that high on Mewhort personally. He is fairly slow and largely mediocre. I would extend Moncrief for the right price.
Personally, I would shop Dorsett or Moncrief to see if we can get a 2nd rounder for either player. This is not a particularly strong WR draft.
Your draft is interesting. I am not sure the Chicago trade for a 2nd round pick is feasible, but you are thinking outside the box which is always great to see!

I like Phillips a lot. He is looking like a second round pick, although it is early.
I would pass on Mixon.
