  1. Todd McShay was talking on NFL Live the other night about the Colts taking Jeff Allen in the 2nd round. I think that is the first time I heard anyone talk about Jeff Allen. I thought he was a 3rd to 4th round prospect.

I like the Marvin Jones pick but I likewise thought he was a 3rd round pick at the latest. He has good size and runs great routes. He could develop well under Reggie's mentorship.

I would be surprised if Thompson is there in the 3rd. You almost have to make that pick.

  2. NOT Janoris Jenkins! That guy is a cancer and a distraction waiting to happen. He is undersized as well. He has been compared to Dre Bly, a good but not great corner.

Protect Luck. Make sure he survives this year. I would look offense in rounds 2 and 3.

    Round 2: Kevin Zeitler

    Round 3: Juron Criner

I wouldn't mind trading down and getting an extra 3rd rounder if Fleener or Zeitler are both gone.

Bottom line is that we should have the #1 pick again next year. We should be able to trade it like the Rams did this year and then we can really start to add some pieces to the roster. I just want Luck to survive the year and progress like Manning did his rookie year.

  3. Ron Brooks and Dequan Menzie could be late round steals. Brooks would have started for most schools. I would be happy if we got one of these guys.

AJ Jenkins would be a nice 4th round pick, but I heard his stock was rising.

Chapman could be a nice 5th round pick. He may slide due to the knee. Since we have two 5th round picks it could be worth the risk.

  4. I am surprised by how many people are so high on Alshon Jeffery. There was actually a piece on him by Todd McShay where he mentioned that he might need to be moved to tight end because of how slow he is. Plus, there is a poor track record for Steve Spurrier wide receivers in the NFL.

I would be much more interested in Mohammed Sanu, Juron Criner, or Nick Toon. There is a possibility of getting Criner in the 3rd and we could possibly get Toon in the 4th. These guys are more polished as receivers, have good size, good speed, and are safer selections. I would be hesitant to take a project since we need more of an impact guy initially.

I like the idea of trading down though. I am hoping that either Coby Fleener or Kevin Zeitler is there at #34. If not, trade down.

  5. Marvin Jones should be available in the 3rd round when we pick. I really wouldn't pick a TE in the 2nd unless it is Fleener. Charles should be available in the 3rd round. I think we can get a couple of corners later in the draft just as good as what would be available in the 2nd round. Lavante David is more of a 4/3 outside linebacker and McClellin will be gone. We should not take a RB in the 2nd round.

If Kevin Zeitler is available, I would take him. I keep hearing him linked to the 49ers, but hopefully he will be there if Fleener is not. Otherwise, I would look at a receiver like Sanu.

  6. I wouldn't take Brockers and I sure as heck would not take Janoris Jenkins. There is a chance that Brockers would fall to us, but most likely he will go to Denver. I can't imagine trading up that far into the first and giving up players that our depleted roster desperately needs. Brockers is a great run stuffing tackle but does not rush the passer well. He is young and will get better. but I do not see him getting near the Richard Seymour level.

As for Jenkins, he is Pac-Man Jones reincarnate. He will smoke his way out of the league. He is a headache that this young team does not need. He is a talented cover corner that we need but is unreliable off the field.

  7. I love the Zeitler pick. It is actually not a reach at all. I have have seen numerous mocks having him going the the 49ers in the first round. Zeitler's strength is run blocking and needs to work on pass protection, but he could be a huge contribuotor for the next 10 years.

Actually, the only guy I would take ahead of Zeitler is Coby Fleener.

I agree 100% that protecting Luck is priority number one!

  8. The main knocks I have heard about Sanu is separation and route running. The guy has great hands though and could learn a lot playing behind Reggie Wayne for a year. I like Sanu much more than Randle or Hill.

I think Kendall Wright could be a decent pick. He does have speed as evident on film and at his pro day. He is not big but he can stretch the field and is dynamic. He is a different type of receiver to what we have had previously.

Personally, I think Randle is a bust waiting to happen. He is an athlete but he is not disciplined and really needs to be taught how to play the position. I feel that Hill offers more promise and is a superior athlete but some of his numbers are due to defenses stacking the box to stop the Tech running attack. He needs a lot of work as well.

  9. If Fleener falls to the second round, I would be ecstatic. I just don't see it, but you never know. If Weeden goes to the Browns at 22 and some other guys' stock keeps rising, you never know who will fall to the second round unexpectedly.

All in all, a really good analysis.

If we could get a couple of these guys from Alabama, I would have no problem with that. Menzie would be a nice addition. He is tough as nails and would be an upgrade from Lacey at the very least.

I didn't think that Chapman was all that big though. I thought he was only around 6'1" and 300. More of the type of DT suited to a 4/3.

I really think we need to take a WR in either the 2nd or 3rd round and even follow that up with one in a later round. We have an aging Wayne, Collie who is concussion prone, and Avery who is still coming back from major knee surgery.

  10. What is with all this interest in Alshon Jeffrey all of a sudden? I have seen numerous posts listing him as our 2nd round pick.

I really hope that we do not take him. Yes, he is a big target but I question his motivation given the weight fluctuations. Also, I am leary of any WR coming from a Steve Spurrier program.

In the 2nd round, I would be ok with drafting Mohammed Sanu from Rutgers if we go WR. I think he can grow wih Luck and could learn a great deal from Wayne. I actually wouldn't mind Chandler Jones DE/LB from Syracuse. He would fit in well with a 3/4 Defense and already uses his hands well.

In the 3rd round, I don't mind Dwayne Allen if he is there. I would also look at Juron Criner from AZ, Mel Kiper is really high in him, he has good size. I would also like Kevin Zeitler OG from Wisconsin if he falls to the 3rd.

In the 4th round, I would be stoked if Leonard Johnson CB from Iowa State were to be available. His stock rose from a solid pro day so he may be gone. If Brian Quick, WR is available I think he could be something in a couple years, similar to how Garcon was brought along slowly.

In the 5th round, I wouldn't mind seeing us take Bernard Pierce, RB Temple. He is a bigger back, nice change of pace. With our 2nd 5th rounder, Ismally Kitchen from Kent State, he is huge at around 6'3" and like 340 libs. A big guy to take up space in the middle.

  11. Coby Fleener is a great talent. He is 6'6" 250lbs and ran a 4.45 forty at his pro day. The guy is a good blocker and can line up all over the field. He has been compared to Greg Olson, the TE of the Panthers formerly of the Bears.

Fleener would be a tremendous weapon in the passing and running game. When you see what a guy like that does for an offense like the Patriots, Panthers, or Bengals it makes sense to take him. Brody Elridge is not a number 1 TE. I am not even sure he is as good of a blocker as he has been made out to be.

Plus, the WRs available at 34 are unproven. Stephen Hill is a freak athletically but he will take a couple of years to learn the position. Sanu struggles to gain separation and run clean routes. Fleener would be the safer pick, if he is there.

  12. It is interesting to see what Mel thinks. With the NFL people he gets to talk to he is generally fairly accurate. I am surprised about where he has some of these guys going in the 2nd as I keep reading how some of them are sure fire first rounders.

I have actually read some great things about Reyes, and I have seen numerous mock drafts that have him going to the Patriots. That being said, I actually feel that Fili Moala is better served as a 3/4 End. I am uncertain about whether Nevis can handle being an End but we do have Redding.

If this scenario plays out, I would rather take Mike Adams from Ohio State. I am not sold on Winston Justice at OT. Adams could be a beast at right tackle and we would have bookends for the next decade. Put Ijalana at guard and try Justice at the other guard. Keep Luck upright, that should be the motto of the offense this season and Adams will help make that happen.

  13. I really like the Stephen Hill pick. If he is available, I just don't see how we can pass on him. Hill would really benefit from having Reggie Wayne on the team. It seems like the knock on Hill is his route running and Wayne is tremendous in that area.

Personally, I would avoid Burfict and not even look at Paige-Moss. Burfict is selfish and doesn't play within the defensive scheme. Paige-Moss is a ticking time bomb. With the team rebuilding, they just aren't worth the risk to me.

Brian Quick would be an interesting pick in the 4th round. I could see us taking two receivers in this draft to pair with Collie and Wayne. Quick has good size and speed to go with great hands. Again, I really feel that Wayne could have a tremendous impact on the development of these young receivers. Plus, could you imagine lining up two receivers that are 6'4" and both have great speed? Could be scary.

  14. Sanu does not have deep speed. He ran a 4.71 forty at the combine. It may have been a bad day for him but I would not take him in the second round.

I am more concerned about our offensive line than our D. I just feel it is imperative that Luck survives his rookie year and doesn't take a beating like David Carr did in his rookie season. I am not sold on Winston Justice and Mike McGlynn shoring up a weak offensive line. I would look at Kelechie Osemele in the 2nd round. I would then look at a target like Orson Charles, TE from Georgia, in the 3rd.

Osemele can play OG or OT and Charles can line up all over the field ala Dallas Clark.
