  1. I don't think dots should be connected at all. Or they shouldn't have significant importance until the season starts.

i just firmly believe organizations make their decisions according to the plan they have laid out. i don't think it's a matter of throwing a bunch a stuff against the wall to see what sticks.

  2. Zbikowski is the only one you could really make a case for. But other guards and tackles have been added through the draft and free agency.

true. other than foster and a seventh round pick all undrafted free agents. foster has a chance with his experience and anderson likely a practice squad candidate. the others are camp bodies who are unlikely to get enough reps to have an impact. it's a real rarity in the trenches.

  3. ...yes I think you do think you know more considering recent comments. But either way the majority of what you said is right. We don't make decisions. I grew up in a family full of coaches and players so I think I understand the game and how it works. You certainly have a right to tell me I don't...but at the end of the day it's just opinion vs opinion that doesn't mean anything in the grand scheme of things. We're both rooting for the same team. We just have different views on how that team comes together and operates I suppose.

i believe i'm just connecting very obvious dots. i could be wrong, it happens a lot.

  4. I forgot how much different the games look at a bar vs in your living room next to your masters degree. It must look a whole lot more intelligent there.

not at all. but it does look a whole lot different than coaches film does. what you see on tv is not the same thing the coaches watch when evaluating film.

  5. Training camp is not a tryout. That is correct. Like I said, some guys will of course assume starting roles like Luck. However...for most rookies it is indeed a tryout because they only have so many reps to show their value and make the 53 man roster. You can certainly grade players coming in and determine a lose roster spot for them. Stanton was a backup, so he'll probably be a backup on the Colts. Same with McGlynn. He was a backup and he should be listed as a backup. With the O-line as shallow and uncertain as it is, it's hard to tell who is going to land a starting job outside of Satele and Castonzo. But anyone can be beat out of position in training camp. That happens every year.

i agree that stanton was brought in as a backup to luck. i believe that justice, mcglynn and zbikowski were brought in to be starters and nothing has happened since those guys have signed to indicate otherwise. no other free agents and no high draft picks at any of those spots. again, it's not hard to connect the dots. i guarantee grigson and pagano have a darn good idea who the starters will be at the vast majority of the spots.

  6. I forgot, your season tickets are right next to Grigson. Right? I can't imagine you watch the games on the TV like everyone else. You have so much knowledge and insight.

when it comes to football i don't believe i know any more or less than anyone else here. i'm not judging players. i'll leave that to the folks who get paid a pretty penny to make those decisions. are they always right ? not at all but they are certainly more qualified than any of us here to do it.

  7. ...said the kettle. While you are right that the lineman don't get subbed out and need to work as a unit, first you have to establish who the best ones are. Aka, football 101. That's what camp is for. To determine your starting roster. Everyone who has ever payed attention to football should know this. Then you cut down to 53 men and start practicing. That's where your argument for "functioning as a unit" should come in. So again...every job is up for grabs. That's why training camp exists and they don't just skip to a 53 man roster.

I actually agree with that. It's not about McGlynn. It's about the logic behind why you think he's an instant starter. Go look up interviews from camp with Pagano talking about moving Link to compete for a job and how Grigson is going to be bringing in another lineman in the next 24 hours to get in camp. Then tell me that players don't compete for positions and show me exactly where every lineman has already been guaranteed a starting position and I'll shut up.

you do understand that the calendar does not allow for true open competition for every spot. will drew stanton get the same amount of reps with the 1's that luck does ? of course not. you think mcglynn or zbikowski or satele sign with the colts or any team without having a good idea what role is expected of them ? i'm not saying they keep their jobs no matter what i'm saying they were brought in to start, if they don't they performed poorly and lost the job or got injured. again there is a pecking order. training camp is not an open tryout.

  8. I'm hoping any and all of them can step up in camp. Link and McGlynn are horrible choices for starters.

says the pro football talent evaluator who cut his teeth on the big screen at the local bw-3.

  9. I watched a lot of Bengals football with my Sunday BW3's crew last year. McGlynn was terrible. Didn't get excited about his name on the roster at all.

wow ! i take it all back. watching games with your buddies at a bw-3 ? of course you're more qualified than ryan grigson to make personnel decisions.

  10. Personally, I think Joe Reitz is underestimated either because he is a former TE converted to OL and is not rated highly because he is a castoff.

I thought he was our best lineman after Saturday last year. Castanzo made more mistakes than Reitz, from what I can remember.

I think Joe Reitz can get the job done. He may not be a Pro Bowler, but he will beat out Linkenbach, IMO. I think he has to be given one more year at guard to improve upon what he showed last year, IMO.

    Thoughts??

i think he is clearly the favorite to win the job.

  11. This is where my problem lies. Do you know Grigson personally? Because I haven't seen anything that said that he brought them in to be instant starters. If you could show me proof of that, as in words from Grigsons mouth saying that this is the case, I'd be more than happy to shut up. Some FA pick ups are sensible starters like Vincent Jackson in Tampa Bay. That is going to be hard to argue against. But a backup guard who didn't even play for half the season last year and got tore up on almost every down, being handed the starting job makes absolutely no sense. He'll compete for it. If he gets the job, it will be because he was the best man on the field. Not because the GM "said so".

my point has always been that it's not hard at all to connect the dots. everyone else sans a few posters here have had no problem doing that.

you're showing a complete lack of knowledge of how things work in the nfl. yes you have to establish your core group. the time constraints and the new cba do not allow for true open competition at each and every position. that becomes much more important on the offensive line. not one other unit on the team is so dependent on unity and teamwork. you can have 5 all pros but if they don't function as a unit it doesn't matter. the o line is also the only position on the field other than quarterback that does not have liberal substitutions during the course of a game because of such need for functioning as one unit. you have the new face of your franchise and the overall #1 pick at qb. he needs as much work as he can get with the same unit in order to give him stability and allow him to get comfortable running the offense. a revolving door up front doesn't allow that to happpen. if you think pagano and grigson open camp thinking every position is up for grabs you're very naive. now some players can certainly lose their spot but there is a pecking order for a reason. again the disagreement isn't about mike mcglynn the player it's about how the colts have made personnel decisions and why. i imagine we'll continue to disagree. have a great day.

  13. my arguments aren't about mike mcglynn the player. i'd have the same argument about justice or satele or zbikowski. some don't understand or refuse to acknowledgable the personnel moves that were made and why they made them. you can think mcglynn or any other player stinks all you want. the bottom line is grigson targeted specific players to be instant starters on th 2012 colts. nothing that has transpired since these players were acquired has demonstrated anything to the contrary. if i'm completely off base i'll be the first one to say so.

  14. I'm not worried about Satele. But you should be scared to death about McGlynn. He was terrible last year at Cincy. If you know something I don't please share. Why is Gurode done?

If I had my choice between a backup for Cincy who got owned 24/7 vs a 5 time Pro Bowler who has started 127 games...it's a pretty easy pick.

yep gurode has so much left in the tank he's not in anyones camp.

  15. Because it's training camp...competition. Guards can get moved around just like any other lineman. Just like Linkenbach got moved to Guard from Left Tackle. Do we really have to go through this again? yes we know, you think that McGlynn was guaranteed the starting job, which is ridiculous and laughable. I feel sorry for Luck. Hopefully Grigson goes out and gets a real player to protect him.

i find it laughable that some here refuse to acknowledge that some moves were made for specific reasons and that they have the absolute arrogance to think they know better than the general manager. what is your football background compared to ryan grigson ? yes it's training camp but there is not competition for a starting spot on the offensive line other than the left guard spot. to think otherwise is either pigheadedness or complete ignorance of what's been occurring the last 5 months. link was moved to left guard because of bens injury. barring injury 4 of the 5 o line spots are as secure as andrew lucks.

  16. You mean for the 4 starts he was in last for Cincy? Also in Philly the year he started for them they gave up 49 sacks thats tied for 29th in the league. Might want to look at the Cincy games again, he got abused frequently, blown by, knocked on his butt more then once, a false start, holding penalty thats all in one game, I believe the one vs the Rams. I hope he does better here in Indy

i guess ryan grigson is a liar and you are more adept at judging talent than he is. the ram game was mcglynns first at cinci with minimal practice time. not a real broad sample. i watched the cinci playoff game and he was fine. i guess the eagles had the second ranked offense in 2010 with any quality o-line play. how many of those sacks you speak of were a case of mike vick trying to keep plays alive ? do you not know anything about football ?

  17. 1. I believe because of Brown's starting experience, he will win the RB spot with Carter as his back up. Look for a little Thunder and Lightning with Carter and Brown. Ballard is the rookie and unless Carter hasn't fixed his fumble problems, Carter will be the back-up with Ballard subbing in when one gets hurt.

    2. Ben Ijalana will be the starter. I just don't see McGlynn coming in and taking over as long as Ijalana is healthy.

    3. I see Rucker being the number 2 starter because he is more physical off the line, and if I remember watching a few Baltimore games last year, Pagano loves physical CBs and from what I saw from Kevin as opposed to Rucker last year. I would say Rucker is far better than Thomas right now.

4.Zbikowski will be the SS with Lefeged backing him up. Pagano knows him and how he plays and I think he will fit better into his scheme than Lefeged. Also, Zbikowski is the more hard hitting safety.

    5. Fleener will be the starting TE. In the end, I see Allen lining up as the TE in most formations with Fleener being split out wide. I see are TEs being used like how the Panthers used Greg Olsen and Jeremy Shockey last year.

Actually I see a lot of similarities between the Colts this year and the Panthers last year. A talented rookie QB, a thunder and lightning RB tandem, one older yet consistent WR with a bunch of un-proven and young WR behind him, and 2 very talented and explosive TEs

i swear some of you have not been paying attention whatsoever. ijalana won't even be practicing at right guard. it's been common knowledgable that he goes either left guard or right tackle. mcglynn is as frimly entrenched in his spot as satele, costanzo or anyone else. the beat writers have been saying it for some time now. heck grigson made it perfectly clear when they signed him. he's the leader of the o-line.

  18. Some act as if I dont want the team to win and grow, which is crazy I simply see holes especially on the O Line, Justice has been benched more then once in Philly by Howard Mudd, and Mcglynn gets knocked back a ton when blocking even to the point where he winds up on his butt quite a bit

your horse is dead. you can stop beating it. mcglynn and justice will be just fine. have a little faith in the front office. i'm sure they know much much more than any of us here.who cares what howard mudd did ? he took a playoff teams o -line, changed three starters and they went 8-8. mudds philosophies didn't play to the strengths of the guys he replaced. that doesn't make them bad players. you constantly rag on these guys and they have yet to even play for the colts. again, a little faith that the powers that be know what they're doing more than any of us.
