  1. My brother took me to Colts games at Memorial Stadium starting in the late 60's. All thru the seventies. My brother's wife's sister lived in Baltimore. (We lived in Pa)

I got hooked on the horseshoe right away. My two brothers liked the Packers and Steelers respectively. I certainly "walked to my own tune" growing up. I didn't know any other Colts fans in my area.I wore it like a badge of honor. As a kid, I had the coat with the white vinyl sleeves, the beanie hat, Helmet lamp (which I still use!) belt buckle, etc., etc. I have soooooooo much Colts stuff, especially from the 70s and still have it all. I always had something Colts on as a kid. Pre-Manning, during football season, people knew me as "the Colts fan". And it wasn't because I wore stuff. Thats how FEW Colts fans were around. Now, they're everywhere. Especially younger kids. I call it the "Manning effect".

I stuck with the Colts when they moved (even farther) away. There was never a second thought.

I think I , at first, fell in love with the "Memorial Stadium experience" and you gotta love the Blue shoe on the side of that White helmet. I saw alot of great players back then. And they were accessible. You'd see them in the hall of the stadium and in parking lot after games. I saw, and talked to, Unitas several times in the halls of Memorial. One week, Lenny Moore, maybe Mike Curtis. It was great back then, the players were "regular guys".

For me, there is only ONE team. And I feel my patience thru all the "lean" years were repaid thru watching this team thru the last 15 years or so.(starting about Faulk/Harbaugh days)

With witnessing that first SB win(that I remember) in '06, I can die a happy man. At least in football terms.

    I almost cried.

Oh, I was at the '95 AFC champ game in Pitt.......... with 2 Steeler fans.

  2. We should use what we have at QB..............

    And throw away the season.

    Is THAT what you're saying?

Who's gonna be the wildcat QB? Addai?

You people are nuts. We need better than Painter and Orlovsky at #2.

Whether Peyton is healthy or Not! We've been saying this for years. Unfortunately, it looks like this year our luck wore out and we may need the "clipboard holder" to actually play.

  3. Well you can't really expect him to do that much. He couldn't do anything against the Rams and the Redskins, 2 mediocre defenses, so what makes you think he'll do something against arguably the best defense in the league, plus he's starting so he's against the starters. Either way, he still sucks...

I wasn't bashing Painter, or defending him.

But seriously, if he can't "do the job", why is he here? His price is right?

I'm watching rookie QBs and 2nd & 3rd string QBs on other teams move the ball this preseason, with less weapons.

Its time for him to show something.

  4. I'm a little iffy on this. All it says is "Chris Mortensen of ESPN reports that the Colts made inquiries regarding the availability of Matthew Hasselbeck, before he signed with the Titans." We made inquiries, I don't think it means we were necessarily interested. You could also say the Colts made inquiries about the availability of Terrelle Pryor, but there was no way that would happen. I'm sure the Colts probably made an inquiry about the availability of Asomugha, but that would never happen either. I'm still pretty confident that Manning will be ready to go by week 1

I'm glad many of you guys think Manning will be ready week 1.

I'm usually "overly" optimistic, but this time my "gut" tells me Manning's neck isn't as good as we'd like. Its just my gut. NO proof of any kind. I had this same gut feeling the year Marvin was supposed to come back every week for like 10 weeks and we never saw him all year. When I look at everything I've seen and heard, my "gut" says Manning could miss a few games early.

I REALLY hope my "gut" is wrong. (tho it rarely seems to be)

  5. Keep in mind, Manning will likely play all 16 games.

    I hope you are right.

I still feel better with an experienced QB behind Manning. Even if he is older, he has produced. And in big games.

I have no problem with Painter on a personal level. I don't dislike him in any way. However, has ANYONE seen Painter "move the chains" in ANY game? Regular or preseason? At practice even? I don't recall EVER saying "wow, nice throw Painter" or " nice play Painter". I haven't seen it (that I can remember). Polian/Polian must agree. We haven't seen enough of Orlovsky, maybe management has.

I've been saying we needed a Brunell (Jets) type of back-up with experience in big games and can manage this offense. I think Collins gives us that. He knows the division. I'm sure he's studied our offense and Peyton's play before. I was never really a Collins fan. (live near Penn State) However, they guy (once he matured personally) has produced. He's got descent size and can move the ball around. He can't be much less mobile than Peyton. He'll have weapons if needed, I'm pretty sure he's an improvement over what we have.

I'll be interested in Painter and orlovsky's play tonight against GB. We'll see if Reggie can "will" Painter to greatness. Seriously, tho, I just wanna see completions (more than 2 - 5 yards)and 1st downs. As of yet, I've not seen it. I'm thinkin we get blown out tonight vs GB. Embarassingly blown-out.

Is Collins a bandaid? Yes, kinda. But there aren't many "proven" QBs out there right now. Maybe after cuts but not right now.

  6. McAffe acts like he's the starting QB. (shhhh, don't tell him. He doesn't realize he's "just" the punter)

Imagine if Vandy was still on the team. That would be two "divas" on 1 team. They could hang out together and tell each other how great they are. Hold up mirrors for each other so they could check their hair. maybe even share hair care products on the road. Important stuff like that.

PS.... anyone think Painter is starting to look like one of the Allman brothers? Or maybe a "back-up" actor for the Lord of the Rings movies? It looks like Curtis has had too much free time hangin out with McAfee. maybe they were doing "laps" together in the canal?

As far as "swagger" on this team....

Frenney has a "cool" type of swagger. He's just "too cool."

Mathis has a more quiet, but intimidating "swagger", imo.

    Dom Rhodes had swagger.

Garcon, at times, has a "cocky" swagger.

Wayne has some swagger, tho not as in your face.

How about the time Marvin spiked the ball in Pats-land? THAT was swagger! It really pumped up the team too.

I'd like to see a little more swagger. Mainly on Defense. We need that "enforcer" guy who everyone looks to when a "fight" breaks out. It keeps the other team's offense a little "calmer."

  7. http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2011/06/11/kerry-collins-interested-in-returning-to-titans/

Collins wanted to resign........... But the titans went somewhere else, now if he wanted to resign and the team actually wanted him why didnt they resign him? Painter has a much better arm, and can run... Collins cant do any of that. If painter struggled "mightly" and orlovsky is so better why isnt he starting instead of painter in the packers game?? smh

What good is Painter's "stronger arm" if he can't hit the target?

If Painter & Orlovsky had performed well (which I haven't seen, have you?), Collins wouldn't be here.

Obviously , Colts management agrees that painter & Orlovsky aren't the answer... short or long term.

We should have had a "game-ready" backup QB for years and haven't. Painter's production in the "undefeated season" was just an example that Painter just doesn't look comfortable in the pocket. He's looked nervous this preseason too.

Collins can manage the game and our weapons. it looks obvious to me me have a better chance of winning with Collins than either Painter or orlovsky.

QB is the most important position on this team. We've been lucky Peyton hasn't missed more games. It won't always be that way. Collins is at least an upgrade at the #2 QB position that has EXPERIENCE and can at least get 1st downs.

I don't see the problem with this addition. And I'm not sure when Painter looked good to Reggie, but I haven't seen it. Reggie needs to stick to catching balls and let the personnel decisions to the experts. With Painter & Orlovsky in the game, Reggie might not have a chance to catch a pass.

  8. I like the pick-up overall. Collins is the type of back-up I felt we needed and could afford. Going forward, I feel the Colts need a vet and develpmental QB behind manning. Peyton isn't getting any younger. Collins should be able to manage our capable Offensive weapons. He doesn't have to be Manning (provided the D steps up). He's a vet, knows his role, and has seen alot. He will help us get more out of players at practice too.

It is looking more and more like Manning could miss a game or more. It just feels like its going that way.

What we need, is someone to give us a chance. We need to feel comfortable our "backup" can move the chains, at least. Painter and Orlovsky haven't been showing they can do that(at least not vs StL & Was). Perhaps after cuts more QB options will come available.

I think I'd like this pickup even if Manning was 100% now.

We need to weather this storm like Pitt did the other year with Little Ben. We need someone to win us half the games he's out. Get Manning healthy and make our "run". This certainly would hurt home field chances but it is what it is.

  9. I too mentioned the idea of stomping feet in posts YEARS ago.

I also said they should play the sound of a real horse herd running (hoof sounds) at kickoffs and/or after touchdowns.

A great marketing tool for Lucas Oil or someone would be coconut shell type plastic "cups" to make an awful racket like horse hoof sound. Can you imagine half the stadium clapping those things and stomping?

I think the stomping is a great idea. This organization needs to keep the crowd involved.

Especially when Painter is in there. haha

    I remember games in Baltimore (70s ?)and the guy that spelled out C - O - L - T - S like the Jets guy does now.

  10. Was Pryor allowed in?

I thought it still was undecided.

IMO, he SHOULDN'T be allowed in because of how he handled the "non-suspension" of bowl game and "suspension" this year.

I know he's a "kid" but it appears to me he has character flaws. he's not about TEAM, only self.

He's ,in part, to blame for the Ohio State fiasco and Tressel firing. (no I'm not a Ohio State fan)

I don't see his QB skills translating to the NFL and he appears to be the type of player that comes in the league and does all the wrong things (see Maurice Clarett).

The Colts don't need or want this "headache".

If the league does or did leave him in the supplemental draft, I will lose even more respect for Goodell and the league.

    Just my opinion.

  11. The Texans had 7 sacks against "sexy rexy's" Jets the other night. The Texans have come a long way the last couple years and it looks like they have really focused on the defense this offseason. Their offence has shown it can score points and run the ball so it should be an interesting battle for the division this year. Our first game of the year worries me some as Peyton won't have had much practice this year and with the "new" O-line, I'm a little concerned about him getting thru the game in one piece.

Was it last year that we lost the 1st game to Houston and then chased them thru most of the season. I forget what season it was. It seems last year we "chased" the jaguars until the end of the season.

Anyway, the texans look for real, and Tenn and Jax (even with potential new QBs at both) always play us tuff.

I have faith in the Colts but this team needs to get its feet under it EARLY, especially if they want a chance at Home Field advantage thruout.

We've got tons of talent and weapons, tho mostly on the Offensive side.

The Colts really need to get the run D improved and get some solid results from the "new" O-line (pass & run)or this season could get dicey FAST.

If nothing else, it should be an exciting, nail-biting season for us Colt fans.

I'll be watching our division closely thru the preseason. I'm also interested in watching the "usual" suspects such as NE, Pitt, NYJ, Baltimore, and even SD looks potent. It will also be intersting to see what teams surprise this year.

Heres hoping to a fruitful season............................

  12. That would be because Sanchez has had an average career in terms of personal achievement. He hasn't thrown for over 4000 yards, he hasn't thrown more than 30 touchdowns, his highest QB rating for one season was 75.8, he has thrown more INTs than TDs. Yeah, I understand he only has 2 seasons under his belt, but he hasn't shown great progression. He isn't consistent enough; he will have one great game, then have a terrible game the next week. He has been lucky enough to have a strong defense and a good running game, that's why he has made it to 2 AFC Championship games.

Getting back to the topic, I'm not that concerned. I have a feeling Mudd was somewhat to blame for our poor running game. He preferred smaller, more agile O-linemen compared to bigger, stronger guys. That let our O-line get pushed around by the defense, so there weren't many rushing lanes for our RBs. Manning is pretty much our offensive coach and as long as he is there, I think we will be fine regardless of who leaves. Peyton understands our system perfectly and will be able to adjust our blocking scheme or teach it to the new guys.

I have no idea how it really worked but.....

I was under the impression Polian brought in the OL and Mudd made diamonds out of coal.

Let's face it, except for Ugoh, we really didn't draft much "top" OL since Glenn really.

Mudd seemd to have 4th rd, 6th rd, and UDFA to work with.

Maybe you're right , maybe his "expertise" was more pass-block.

It's hard to tell, really just how good an OL coach he was here. Peyton had alot to do with the OL looking better than they were perhaps.

I kinda feel teams should "scout" coaches each year the as closely as they do players.

  13. I'm surprised thre isn't more discussion on the loss of Moore and Mudd.

Especially Mudd since our OL is young and developing.

IMO, this is bigger than the Session, Hayden, johnson losses.

Look around the league. How many teams have ex-head coaches as their Off and Def coaches behind their head coach.

I'm not exactly sure why, but I just don't have the confidence in our coaching staff (top to bottom) as I do for some of these "dream team" coaching staffs.

    Is it just me?

  14. See the same interview I did on ESPN? He actually seemed honestly upset at the fact he couldn't deliver to fans in Indy. It actually felt a little bit like redemption for myself knowing he still cares about the fans. Tough to watch as you said, miss him a lot.

Darn, i missed the thing on ESPN.

But, imo, he delivered for us in '06. I'm not sure if we win that SB if he wasn't there.

I'm not crazy about SD (I'm not fond of Rivers cocky, demeaning attitude), but I hope Bob stays healthy and does well. (as much as that hurts on some levels and could even affect us down the road)

  15. It's tuff for me to watch him (SD vs. Seattle preeason game)

    I miss him already.

I know he didn't play much, but when he did..... man, what excitement. Some of those hits. Like the hit on Benson in the '06 Super Bowl. It looked like Benson quit after that hit. He didn't want any more. That was a big factor in the early part of that game. In the rain and sloppy conditions, Benson could have been a bigger factor than the smaller remaining back. I'm hoping maybe Sims can replace that intensity. Session kinda did.

The guy truly was (still is?) a gamechanger. One of those guys that could change the tone or momentum of a drive or game with a single hit.

Very interesting combo with Weddle if he stays healthy.

He looks pumped and excited to be playing. Probably has a chip on his shoulder for getting released by Indy.
