  1. If I was using Walter’s Football Mock I would want a draft that looked like this:

1st pick QB - Andrew Luck – No explanation.

33rd pick CB - Janoris Jenkins – Jenkins is the best cover corner in the draft. Think that a lot of teams are putting out rumors hoping he falls to them in the 2nd.

64th pick DT - Alameda Ta'amu – Big plugger to fill the NT position. Will rotate into the NT position with McKinney to give the Colts a great one, two punch at NT.

97th pick TE - Orson Charles – Great TE that has some character concerns like Jenkins. Signed Satele after his disorderly conduct charge so Charles problems may be overlooked and be drafted on talent alone.

136th pick WR - Devon Wylie - I like this guy a lot and think he will be overlooked because of his size (5-9). See a lot of similarities between him and Kendall Wright but we can get him for a 5th and not a 1st like Wright will be going.

170th pick LB - James-Michael Johnson – Just like Walter’s mock I also like this pick. We don’t know what Angerer and Conner can do in the 3-4 plus we really don’t have any depth behind them either.

206th pick SS – Kelcie McCray – Good cover safety with great height (6-2). A little lean at 195 but has good athletic ability to take at the end of the 6th.

  2. I would rather take DeCastro over Kalil. Then you have Castonzo and Justice as your tackles, Ijalana and DeCastro as your G, and Satele as C. You have 3 2nd round picks and 2 first round picks there and none of them are older than 27

He's young, has potential, has some experience, and we traded to get him. Grigs sees something in him. Why not give him a shot?

I'm a huge USC fan but I got to say that I'm not really feeling Justice as a Colt. The only real reason we were able to grab him from the Eagles was because they wanted to shed his cap number and rather then cutting him and letting him pick his team they shipped him to the AFC South and ended up moving up a few spots in the 6th doing it as well. Having a possible line of Kalil, McGlynn/Reitz, Satele, Ijalana and Castonzo is way better than Castonzo, DeCastro, Satele, Ijalana and Justice. A LT is way harder to find in the draft then a OG.

  3. Sanu is 6-2, 215....you consider that small? He can separate. His straight line speed is his knock. He has excellent burst out of his break. He is also the best blocking WR in the draft.

He can separate at the college level. Don't see him being able to do it at the NFL level. Wright and Hill (if he falls) would be the only WR'ers I would take in the 2nd. Might look at Sanu in the 3rd if he's there.

  4. ProFootballWeekly lists these attributes under "downside"

    Downside:

    • Does not breathe football

    • Lax playing temperament

    • Mental toughness is questioned

    • Lacks pass-rush repertoire

    • Mild competitor

Sideline Scouting listed his negatives as:

Negatives -- Does not give maximum effort all the time, takes a lot of plays off and it shows on film... Doesn't play with the aggression that he is capable of, will try but will hold certain things back during the play... Huge questions about his mental toughness; coaches will get on him hard during his rookie year, and if he can't handle it then his NFL career will be short... Doesn't have a lot of pass rushing moves, not fast enough to be a speed rusher and his height limits his leverage on bull rushes... Not a major competitor; doesn't take games as seriously as he should and it sometimes leaves teammates out to dry when he simply doesn't feel like doing something... His love of football is also a question; is he in it for the love of the game or the paycheck?

...If we look at him as a TE then the criticism of his pass rushing abilities can be ignored, but the lack of effort should be a major concern... Dude is an absolute beast though... Colts should invite him for a private workout, if time permits.

The charater issues could of came from him not likiing the position he was playing. Played TE in high school and SMU played him at DE. Don't know if it was SMU's or his decision to play DE. Guy's a beast like you said and I like his upside compared to a lot of the other names that have been floating around threads and mocks lately.

  5. This guy played DE at SMU. He's 6-6 and 259lbs. A high school tight end, Thompson played defensive end at SMU. He had a great tight end workout at his pro day and is moving up draft boards fast. 4.55 40 yard dash and 37 vertical. Could be our version of Jimmy Graham and should be able to pick him up late too. For those who want an athletic TE and don't want to reach for one he could be our guy.

  6. Yeah bad idea we need the draft picks also we can get Hicks later on, stupid idea,

Hicks was the better recruit out of HS. If it wasn't for his eligibility issues at LSU and having to transfer to Regina he might be the DT out of LSU going in the 1st round this year. We should be able to grab this guy with our 5th round pick and not have to break the bank with trading draft picks for Brockers. Trading down the 34 pick is more likely then moving back into 1st round.

  7. Vontaze is the only one I'd be strongly against, want that man as far away from Indianapolis as possible.

As a 5th rounder, he would be a low-risk, high-reward pick. 5th rounders don't usually have a big impact, but he has tons of potential. With that said, it depends on what kind of locker room Grigs thinks we have and if we can handle all of the baggage he brings with him

As a rebuilding team we don't need any player with that kind of baggage. I guarantee he come with a diva type attitude and that can be posion in a locker room. I think with that 5th round pick we can get a player that can make an impact on our team. Maybe Akiem Hicks out of Regina. I belive he could be a really good 5 technique DE in our 3-4 defence (don't really like him at NT). With he size, arm length and height he could cause all types of problems for O-lines. Was really suprised that they had Cliff Harris going to Cinncy with their 5th.

  8. 2nd round is a reach for him and we can't afford to be reaching for any player that early in this draft. Either the Colts have to trade down and get him at the bottom of the 2nd or wait until rounds 3-5 to draft a WR. I think with all the depth at the WR position in this draft the greatest value will be in the 3-5 rounds.

  9. Just looked at the update on Draft Tek’s Mock Draft. It has Fleener falling to us all the way to the 3rd round. Don’t really see how that will happen, can’t see the 49’ers and Giants both passing on him twice. This site is usually pretty good with their rankings and team needs so I don’t see how their simulator would put Fleener in their 3rd round. This is how their mock pans out.

    1.) Andrew Luck Stanford QB

    2.) Juron Criner Arizona WR

    3.) Coby Fleener Stanford TE

4.) Brandon Washington Miami (FL) OG

    5.) Chase Minnifield Virginia CB

5.) Ishmaa'ily Kitchen Kent State NT

6.) T.J. Graham NC State WR

    7.) Dominique Hamilton Missouri DE

7.) Edwin Baker Michigan State RB

    7.) Mason Cloy Clemson OC

I would love this draft. A lot a great names in the first 5 rounds. If Fleener does fall out of the 1st round I can’t see us taking not him in the 2nd and a WR in the 3rd, could see Criner still being there in the 3rd along with possibly Sanu, Jenkins, Randle or Quick. How do you feel about Draft Tek’s Mock?

  10. He decieded to put on some significant amount of weight befor his pro day and looks like he's at about 175 lbs now. Don't know if his body likes it though. He ran mid 4.6's in his 40 and struggled in his shuttle drills plus at the end of the workout he was spoted outside in the the rain puking his guts out saying that his was overheated and not out of shape. Doesn't have the skills Jenkins has but also doesn't carry the 4 kids with 3 girls baggage like Jenkins does either. I believe that all our picks in the first 5 rounds will have to come in and make an impact right away for our 2012 Colts to be successful. I don't know if Cliff Harris fits that bill. The highest I would go for Harris would be our 6th round comp pick.

  11. Walter's Mock:

1st Round: QB Andrew Luck, Stanford

2nd Round: WR Alshon Jeffery, South Carolina

3rd Round: NT Alameda Ta'amu, Washington

4th Round: TE Orson Charles, Georgia

5th Round: CB Coty Sensabaugh, Clemson

    Charlie Campbell's Mock:

1st Round: QB Andrew Luck, Stanford

2nd Round: TE Coby Fleener, Stanford

3rd Round: CB Trumaine Johnson, Montana

4th Round: NT Nicholas Jean-Baptiste, Baylor

5th Round: WR Ryan Broyles, Oklahoma

So, which one would you rather take?

Love Charlie's. Would rather have Boykin in the 3rd than Johnson. Johnson looks more like a Saftey to me then a CB. He also has us taking RB Cyrus Grey, Texas A&M with our 5th round comp.

FYI. Walt has us taking Kyle Wilber, ILB, Wake Forest with our 5th round comp in his mock.

  12. Like the Buffalo trade twist but I feel there is a few things I question about your draft and a lot that I like.

1.) I don't see us to be rushing to address the NT position in this draft. They signed McKinney so I don't see them needing to get a NT until the 5th round. Could get Jean-Baptiste out of Baylor or maybe even Chapman if he falls at the top of the 5th round.

2.) Need a CB way before the 5th. I can see the quality at CB dropping off at the middle of the 4th. I like Boykin in the 3rd. Minnifield or Fleming in the 4th.

3.) The quaility at the safety position isn't very good in this draft. Don't see us getting anybody with value at #214.

4.) Love Washington at #97 but can't really see him being there.

5.) Like the Kendricks pick. I know he's on the small side but he doesn't play that way. Think this is really the spot he should be taken at.

6.) Hanna is a OK pick at #170 because he won't be there at #206.

7.) Jenkins is a soild pick at #103.

8.) Almost impossibel for every one to agree on the picks in the bottom of the 6th and 7th rounds. So I guess yours are OK.

  13. Will anyone feel burned if the Vikes end up trading the 3rd overall pick and get a package of picks like the Rams got. Kalil has got to be one of the best pure LT prospects in the past few years. I could see a few teams willing to move up because of the rookie pay scale and willing to give up a good group of pick. It kind of makes me wonder what we could of done with the Rams package of picks and Manning at QB

  14. Hill won't be the next Megatron. He doesn't even have the upside as DT did when he came out of GT. He had a great combine and pushed his stock up. If he had an average combine he wouldn't even be considered until round 3. Wright is the better pure WR prospect than Hill. How many of these tall WR with good measurables have came into the NFL and haven't done a thing. For every Moss/Megatron that has been drafted there has to be at least 10-20 busts.

  15. I would think that any player who was injured by a Williams coached defence has a good legal case for compenastion. Teams won't recieve anything. Players could go after the players that injured, coach Williams and the teams that he coached. Some players who had their carrers cut short by Williams could be in for a big pay day.

  16. you obviously havent read a thing ive posted. colts just signed brandon mckinnely so NT is no longer a need, i already said to draft coby fleener, and we have rucker and thomas that we can still develop so we dont need a high pick at CB

Brandon McKinney is a short term solution at NT at best. We are going to have to add another player to address the NT position on Day 3 of this years draft. CB is a need. I don't know why so may people have man crushes on Thomas and Rucker. Neither one of these players would be a starting CB on any of the other 31 teams in the NFL. Without question we need to get at CB on day 2 of the draft. The only other real needs would be the TE postion (which I'm in agreement with you) and a WR (I like Avery if we get the player he was in 08-09). SS could be addressed but I don't see this draft having any quality players in the later rounds.
