  1. I was totally confused by Gonzo this past season. I didn't understand why he was kept on the team, but never got off the bench. Someone obviously felt he could contribute, especially with the holes the team showed on offense, so why wasn't he ever given a shot on the field? And with all the constant roster shuffles, why wasn't he axed in favor of filling some more pressing hole if he wasn't going to be used?

I'd still like to see him given a chance. He has shown so much promise at times, but I certainly understand the frustration about past injuries.

  2. I'll stick to my closet full of authentic #1 Schwamm jerseys. I root for the team, and have never gravitated to individual player jerseys. In fact, I used to enjoy it when some less informed fans would look confused... "I'm not familiar with Schwamm... what position does he play?" Now, people assume I'm wearing a McAfee jersey, so I miss the confused looks a little.

  3. Reggie Wayne is an average WR who had the luck to work with the greatest. He will not be missed.

Not by you, maybe. LOS rocked with adoring chants of "R... E... G... G... I... E..." altogether too often, even this past year without Manning, for me to believe nobody will miss him. That said, it is probably time for him to move on, and his departure will probably get less notice because of the shadow cast by Manning's.

  4. No doubt for me. It's Colts all the way.

However, I will always root for Manning to do well, and would love to see him land another Super Bowl, if possible, as long as he doesn't end up with the Ravens, Jags, Titans, Cowboys, or Jets. I just can't bring myself to root for those teams, no matter what. I'd add the Pats, but there is no chance of that happening, so I feel safe there.

  5. sorry,

The O-line has struggled ever since Glenn left, and I'm not sure why they didnt make it a priority prior to 2011 draft. I think we'll have to see what saturday does prior to draft day

The Colts drafted Tony Ugoh in '07, Mike Pollak, Steve Justice and Jamey Richard in '08, Jaimie Thomas in '09, and Jacques McClendon in '10. They've been making it a priority to plug holes for quite a while, but kept missing on their picks. I have to hope Grigson is better at evaluating OLine talent than either of the Polians...

  6. I was just trying to fire you up, I admit it wasn't nice or even had a purpose. I take it back

It will be interesting to see who is the first to talk bad about the other though. My bet is that irsay can't keep his mouth shut too long about his talks with Manning, and manning will stay quiet and just want to kill him on the field.

I just hope that manning will want to come back to Indy for visits with the fans in the future, and he doesn't stay away because of Irsay. I really don't think they parted on good terms, Manning is just a good at PR.

I saw this differently too. I thought they showed genuine respect and affection for each other. I think the main reason for Manning flying all the way up to Indianapolis to participate in a news conference, the likes of which have NEVER happened before (where a cut player stands at a podium with his former Owner) is that Manning wants to keep that relationship in tact so he can have an easy "in" for a coaching position when he decides to hang up his cleats.

  7. He looks like a liar. Yes, there might be some info missing, but he's guilty in the eyes of public perception..

To you. And I don't think you can claim a few posters here as "public perception". You aren't even in the majority in this thread, from what I've read.

I bet you get mad when people call OJ simpson a murderer.

What??? That may be the least intelligent thing I've seen you post yet. How in the double hockey sticks does anything Irsay might have done relate to a murderer? And how does my doubt that you have an accurate grasp of the whole picture relate to any take I might have on OJ? I just ask that you at least try to make sense.

  8. Okay lets get technical I was summarizig..but here is this better:

he made statements, bold one with that. And he did the opposite.

Actually, I've been saying that the claims that Irsay lied or misled anyone are patently false, and misconceptions probably spring from an incomplete picture of the inner workings of the decision...

But I just recalled a BLATANT lie. After the Super Bowl win, when he was parading the Lombardi Trophy all over the State and region, allowing Colts fans to be a part of the celebrations like no other NFL Owner has ever done, he claimed Colts fans are the best and smartest in the NFL. Clearly, we have witnessed irrefutable evidence on this forum, and specifically in this thread, that Irsay was being a bold faced liar.

I, for one, will never trust him again.

  9. It's also possible he ends up in a better situation than Peyton. We saw how before, the entire team was dependent on Peyton. Now that we know how dangerous a system that is, it is very possible Grigs and Pagano build up the team to have a solid running game and a solid defense as well, something Peyton didn't have very much

They can do what you suggest until Luck shows he can play at a "franchise" level, at which point he will theoretically merit an upper end contract at subsequent re-signings, and imbalance becomes the norm again. This is what happened to the Colts, and it explains why the Patriots have started looking so much more like the Colts of a few years ago.

  10. I agree with the op's sentiment that the Colts & Peyton could have hoisted a couple more trophies. Polian's philosophy to pay only offense & use late round draft picks for D/special teams hurt us. And the coaching has been terrible at times.

It is almost as if some people live in an alternate universe from the one I live in...

You do realize every team has to work within a salary cap, right? EVERY team has holes, and every team has to figure out how to manage the cap to put the best possible product on the field. Some put more emphasis on D, others on special individual players. $$$ doesn't allow awesome everywhere.

Bill Polian had his flaws, but he may well have been one of the ALL TIME great cap managers. No other team was as consistent for as long.

Interesting that the wheels came off after the attempted hand-off to Chris Polian...

  11. Do you really think Peyton could not afford his own rehab???

Of course I do, but he is also a creature of habit, and prefers to have his guys around him. Don't forget how upset he was that he didn't have access to his guys during the lockout.

  12. An owner who shows no loyalty to the player who made him what he is nor to the community should not expect loyalty from fans. Fans can be more than "homers" you know. I have often rooted for teams in other cities because I admired the way they were run, the way the interacted with the community, and the overall class they displayed. This past few months has shown Irsay's true colors and so if I choose to no longer be a fan of the Colts, it doesn't mean I was a bandwagon fan. I rooted wholeheartedly for the Colts even in the pathetic 80's, but now that I no longer have any respect for the organization or the owner... I'm out.

I posted a Q on another thread... any consideration to the possibility that Irsay postposed cutting Manning to allow him to continue his rehad with Colts facilities, trainers, and players until he was ready to take his show on the road?

  13. While so many are suggesting Irsay has "lied", or that he should have known this was coming and prevented it...

Has anyone considered the possibility Irsay did what he had to do to allow Manning to continue his rehab, using Colts facilities (before he went down to Duke), Colts trainers, or Colts players?

Has it occurred to anyone that, despite a deadline he might very well have known was coming, Jim did something generous for someone who needed the hand? What if he had cut Manning at the SB? Manning might have been able to negotiate another contract, but with nobody having any sense of where he was with his injury, I would ask how.

Manning had the opportunity to add another 6 weeks of rehab (probably with Colts trainers, definitely with Colts receivers) after the SB, and was able to get a video out with a glimpse at his "rehabbed" arm. Has anybody here posed the possibility that there is no way that could have been possible without Irsay's compliance? Just asking...

  14. Sorry to offend schwamm, but it does not change the fact that he lied to everyone, fired the staff and then moved in the middle of the night. Something that Rex Ryan or Bill Belichick might do.

I still don't think you can claim to understand the situation the Irsays were facing. If they told anybody about their plans, they would have lost the team. You see it as lying, I see it as protecting themselves from what would have been the Maryland Legislature committing one of the most criminal acts in the history of professional sports. But you hate Bob, and now Jim, and I doubt anything I could add would change that. It was a far more complicated situation that you are painting it to be, and this one with Peyton is too.

  15. Sad day. I've been expecting this, but it hurts nevertheless.

Best of luck to Peyton, wherever he lands. Best of Luck to the Colts going forward. I sincerely hope this works out well for everyone involved.

  16. Guys - All i am saying is, dont make any promises upfront, if you have even a slightest doubt of that not happening. Thats all.

So how is saying it isn't about the money or that the hope is that Manning retires as a Colt suddenly a promise? I hope to make millions of dollars in my current business, and would love to retire next year, but saying as much isn't a promise that it will happen.

  17. They are putting all their eggs in one basket for sure. It will be shame if they all

l crack. You never know for certain how Luck will turn out. He could get a injury or fizzle out. Truthfully I believe in karma and this team sure is seeing that now. Manning will be fine wherever he ends up.

You never know how either situation will play out. There are no guarantees here, and nobody should be claiming otherwise. With that in mind, it is easy for me to assume Irsay is making the best decision he can with the information he has.

I remember how sick to my stomach I felt when Collie went to the turf limp for the second time 2 seasons ago... You say Manning will be fine wherever he goes, but I am seriously worried about that one hit that does more than force a retirement, if he does continue playing. How unbelievably upsetting would that be?

  18. Andrew will get his help and back up. We have the first pick in every round and unless we miraculously make the playoffs next year we will have solid picks next year as well.

Actually, we have the first pick in odd rounds, and second pick in even rounds... but maybe that is nitpicky.

I hope the team spends the money saved by cutting Manning on the OLine (immediately). I guarantee Luck won't last long in the league if he is on his back like Carr was.

  19. No he didnt. If money isnt the issue, what is it?. Lets not make it complicated. I just shouldnt have made those statements.

You can prefer to think whatever you want though :-)

You don't want it to be complicated, but it isn't as simple as you wish it was.

If not money, what it is? How about the need to field a team. How about the need to field a decent product to keep fans entertained, not just this next season, but 5 years from now, and 10 years from now, and on into the future. How about fears of being the team that rushed Manning onto the field again, only to see something truly tragic happen to him.

I am a fan of taking people at their word, and despite the vitriol on this site, I haven't seen anything to suggest Irsay hasn't been sincere.

I loved my ex-wife. I promised her I would love and honor her until death do us part, and I sincerely meant it. Only things changed. She changed. I changed. Our circumstances changed. She filed for divorce, and I chose not to fight it. That didn't negate the sincerity of my promise to her. I decided I could best love and honor her by moving on.

  20. Sure, point is just dont make those big statements then. If you do, back it up.

I prefer to think he did back it up. They both waited for the deadline to try everything they could to make it work. Narrow glimpses at the goings on, coupled with the usual media spin, gives us a warped view, but we want to assume we know exactly what has transpired. That's not realistic.

  21. Jim Irsay is just like his 'Ol man. He also lied to everyone about ever moving the Baltimore Colts to another city. No respect here for the Irsays!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It helps to know the whole story before spouting half truths.

It is probably easy to ignore the 15 years that Ownership begged the City of Baltimore for improvements to a dilapidated stadium, or to sweep under the carpet the idea that the Maryland Senate was moving to steal the team.

  22. He clearly said money wont be the issue ( only way to justify this scenario is Peyton not being healthy still ).

He did say that, but there are more issues than just pure money and Manning's health... for instance, what about the ability to field a TEAM? No matter how much some of you want to believe that Manning wore a cape and played every position himself, the reality is that league rules require all roster spots be paid for under something called a SALARY CAP... meaning even if Irsay wanted to pay Manning the $28M, there would have been insufficient room left under the cap to surround him with adequate talent, even if Irsay was only worried about making sure he stayed upright. Here's an idea... Irsay can resign Manning, and you and I can be brought in to man the OLine... How long do you figure Manning's career would last then?
