  1. 1) Nobody is assuming that Painter will lead us to the playoffs any more than they thought that Collins could lead us to the playoffs - and Collins is still the starter. Whomever plays QB we are just trying to tread water until Peyton comes back. However with an 0-3 record, Collins injured, and strong signals that Peyton's return this season is unlikely, it's quickly reaching the point where it becomes more important to develop Painter as a backup than it is to play a 38 year old that was RETIRED until a few weeks ago? Particularly a retired QB who has played like he retired for good reason.

    2) Where is Addai and the oline not getting respect? Everyone is thrilled at their performance. That doesn't change the fact that Painter got up off the turf after a horrendous play (as long as you are talking about the Oline, do you think perhaps that Castonzo was trying to get him killed or something?), and drove the team down the field to re-tie the game. So in your mind it is the running back who typically gets credit for an 80 yard drive in which the QB is 5-7 for 60 yards? When Peyton does this do you think "boy oh boy Linkenbach really led us down the field on that one, why are they talking about that QB again?" You clearly have blinders on.

    3) Painter came in cold with no first team practice for a month, and made a couple of inaccurate throws. He does tend to throw it into the ground occasionally. That's something that you hope someone his age can improve upon as he gets more experience. Collins completion percentage is horrendous and his throws are frequently embarrassingly off target despite a solid month practicing with the first team. Did you hear the announcers quoting Reggie: "With Peyton I cut and the ball is there, with Collins I cut and he is still holding the ball and staring at me". And he's a SEVENTEEN year veteran. Did you notice that Painter nailed Garcon in the numbers just as he made a cut? The announcers called it the best Colts pass they'd seen all day. If they had seen the first two games they would have modified the statement somewhat I'm sure. Collins has played worse with the first string than Painter previously did in pre-season lined up with the scrubs. I'm not sure what your expectations were of Collins, but it seems to me that they spent $4 million precisely to avoid the rookie mistakes and learning curve inherent with Painter. How is it acceptable for Collins to under-perform him?

It's Hartline who is "not in the NFL, period". He is an UFA who was just released from the practice squad for good reason. Your "wasn't even a good college qb" comment sounds revealing somehow. Are you a graduate of Purdue's arch rival or something? Did Painter refuse to give your son an autograph at training camp? I'm looking for some grain of logic in your opinions.

This. All of this. Everylast bit o' this.

Painter is not Manning but at this point in his career Collins isn't even a backup. He is an armchair quarterback.

Curtis is not going to come in lead this team to the playoffs, noone is saying that. People are simply saying that the best drive we have had all season was with Painter in there and with the way Collins has been playing he (Curtis), deserves a chance to see what he can do with an entire week of working with this first team.

Also don't forget Kerry gave the ball up 2 times in his first game as well.

  2. I know, all these "If this" "If that" "If only" "They almost" "This coulda" "They shoulda" really are getting ot of control. Scoreboard check gentleman.

Right we are losing but to make it so cut and dry in a year where we lose a player that the entire team is built around is just a little heavy handed.

  3. Then divide by .378 and multiple it by Big Bens weight, add +2 for long hair. And it coulda been a Steelers blow out!

    0-3

    No excuses. Unless your KC.

Not an excuse, just facts! The defense played much much better and Painter once he settled down the offense looked better.

Of course we have to score more points then the opponent that is the basic principle of winning the game but to go back to the OP's numbers it could just as easily be 49 points scored and 81 points and our record be 1-2 and the points scored wouldn't tell you anything.

  4. When it comes down to evaluating your teams ability to me it comes down to two key numbers. Points scored and Points allowed. Well after 3 games the Colts have scored 46 points. Only 3 teams have scored fewer points at this point (Jville/KC and St. Louis). Meanwhile the Colts have given up 84 points with only 3 teams giving up more (KC/St.Louis/Saints). These are the numbers that matter, so those out there that feel this team can still finish around .500, really need to relize where this team is and where it is going this year. All other numbers really don't matter if we can't score and can't stop others from scoring.

The situation and manner those points are scored matter more then total points scored.

Look at the Steelers game 23 points given up wow, but take away the sack fumble the defense only gave up 16 points, that's pretty good to me!

  5. Andy break it down for him!!!

Drake was stout, the dude was coming of double teams and making plays.... dare i say he is better than moala? YES!... he didnt look like a 294 pounder in that game.. though no one is actually sure how much he weighs... im not a breakdown type of person but i can tell you he had a great game.

I was waiting for Andy but didn't want to call him out and make him do this instead of actual work :)

Nice, My brother is a huge LSU fan and said that we were going to be real surprised by him.

  6. I didn't pay as much attention to his play on Sunday night as I wanted to but I am guessing that since we stopped the run as well as we did his play was solid, can anyone of our great game breakdown folks comment on how he played this Sunday or even comment on all the DT's?

  7. I cannot say that i saw bethea cheating up when he wasnt suppose to, but that play he got beat-on that was just a great play by big ben keeping bethea from dropping back and that pass to wallace bethea wasnt cheating up, idk if thats the play you were talking about or not but thats the only one i can remember.

Sorry maybe cheating up was the wrong way to say it.

His first thought was run support though and who can blame him really, he has had to be a huge help in run support even 15-20 yards away he has to worry about run support.

That play (the deep pass to Wallace) I feel that if he hasn't had stop the run so ingrained in his head his first step might have been back and he might have been able to make the play.

  8. You should watch the steelers game again, bethea was a force in the run support he was the one plugging holes, he was the 8th man in the box allowing our LB's to make the plays that they did.... soooo i dont think they will stop doing that.

When he was in the box yes but when he was supposed to be in coverage he was still cheating up.

There is a big difference between getting beat on a deep pass when you are in an 8 in the box set up as opposed to a cover 2 deep shell.

  9. And it wouldn't have been a sack fumble had Painter thrown it to Garcon when he was supposed to. Yes, Anthony could have had better technique there. But the route was a stick and Painter looked right at him, was indecisive, and paid for it.

So to play that game, it would have been a throw to garcon had troy not jumped into the throwing lane.

  10. I will take my chances with leaving the deep middle open and counting on our safeties to get there over giving up a ton of rushing yards. Besides if the run defense continues this way the safeties wont feel the need to cheat up to support the run.

The tampa 2 needs to change because our best players don't have the skills to play it. Why play a weaker lineup just to play an outdated system?

  11. It seems to me that people are saying it is clear that Painter is not going to be the starter for this team coming up in the next week based on how he performed against the Steelers on Sunday. I actually think that he played pretty well. He missed an easy pass but you could simply see that he put too much on it and you can chalk that up to being too excited. Easy mistake and I don't fault him for that at all. He has been waiting for this opportunity for awhile so when he got it he was amped. He made the right read on the play and just overthrew it a bit.

What I also saw from him on the quick out to Garcon was more Manning like than Collins like. He threw the ball before Pierre broke his route and the ball was right there when he turned around. The announcers commented on the same type of throw early from Kerry to Reggie that Reggie stated it was one of the biggest differences in dealing with Kerry over Peyton. Kerry is more of a visual thrower (The man has to be open for him to want to throw it) as opposed to a predictive thrower (Sees that the man will be open and throws to the spot even is he is covered now). Not a knock on Kerry it is just the type of QB he is.

I do not think that Painter is going to be the savior of this season but I think, at least from what I saw in the Pitt game, that he gives us more of the norm than Kerry does. In the post game video on Colts.com Pierre even talks about Painter knowing the offense and the ease at which he audibles within the playbook.

I think the national media did not watch the same game I did with Curtis because coming out of that game I had hope as where they are all doom n gloom.

  12. Ready for this. I turned on the NFL network pregame to get away from all the 9/11 talk and I tune right into Strahan talking about it.

It's not that I don't care, heck I was 4 blocks away when the planes hit. I had a meeting scheduled for 10:00 at windows on the world. It's just that there isn't a day that goes by that I don't think about it. I think about it every time a plane flies overhead. If I wanted to watch more about it I would put on the news, I put on the NFL because I am done, drained from thinking about it and I want a release.

  13. Cut a player 6 years younger with equally as much talent, but far more upside?

I'm so glad the members of this board aren't in charge of Amy team decisions....

    Amy team?

Never heard of that team, could I get some more details, sounds like a team I could get behind ;)

  14. More absurd speculation. Palmer demanded to be traded and Brown said, "NO!" Palmer is retired and unless Brown changes his mind, Palmer will stay retired.

Palmer actually holds all the cards right now, if he reports and is on the roster for week 1 he is guaranteed a big payday. So if he reports to camp then he either has to be cut or paid.

As to the topic though, I wouldn't mind seeing what he could do but I wouldn't want to give up anything of real value for him.
