CBs are coverage guys meant to match up against receivers, in the Colts case generally in 1 on 1 matchups. Safeties have multiple duties sitting over the top, including providing double team support for receivers that pop over the top, helping cover the middle of the field, or coming up to the second level to hit a RB that made it through the initial contact.
They are entirely different positions, and although some corners have successfully converted to safety if they don't quite have the speed to compete, its not something you usually see
Maybe I should have been more clear. Most of the time, a FS helps in coverage, and most of the time a SS helps in run defense. They both have to cover the middle of the field and such, I get that. I just don't get why a Corner can't play Free Safety. Are they not built for it? Smart enough for it? I just honestly don't see why someone like Alterraun Verner couldn't play safety. It makes sense you would want more of a zone corner than a man to man corner in my mind. Like I don't see Revis being a good FS, even though he is an excellent corner. Am I making sense?

Extra 2 MIll?
One is one year deal.
the other is a 4 or 5 year deal.
Not a difference of an extra 2 mill.
I obviously mean per year and not total.
-
Ok, so I'm a little dumb in this area, but can someone seriously tell me the difference between a FS and a CB ? Is there any reason why we can't draft a CB to play FS?
-
cheap too 5/26m
So basically 5M$ a year. Would have been better getting Boling instead of Herramens for the extra 2M$
Oh well, hindsight is 20/20
-
I'm so happy about this! I want to see the details though. 7M$ a year seems a little steep. I hope it's more like 6/7/8 so we can cut him after 2.
-
If we don't get AJ I bet we re-sign Nicks. Bowe would be interesting. I think both Bowe and AJ are more worried about enjoying their last year or 2 and going to a contender. I can almost guarantee that oakland/jacksonville/tennesse/minnesota etc are "interested" in them, but realistically won't get them. AJ doesn't want to play for Oakland just cus they offered him 2M$ more.
-
Jake Locker saigned a 4 yr 12.5M$ fully guaranteed contract, MJD has a football total earnings of 36M$. If these guys only have 1M$ in the bank, they have seriously mismanaged their funds.
I do get what you're saying. If I had the kind of cash, I'd retire too.
-
I'm curious about his contract. Never heard too many rumors about him. I'm guessing 4 years 27M$ with 9M$ guaranteed
-
I think people need to realize that it is almost impossible to have a "great" or better grade at all positions. There is always a weak link, with every team. Seattle lacks recievers, Denver lacked a RB most of the time, New englands OL was bad most of the year (except when playing us) It's just the way it is. As of right now, our Oline is descent, WR is good if we get AJ, RB is good, DB is good other than one safety, LB are good, but could use an upgrade, DL needs work. If we get one good+ DL (knighton, Williams, Fairley) then DL would be good, and our draft can focus on S and LB.
Somewhere we have to suck, and chances are its the ILB and S position this year
-
IF we did have a starting line of Costanzo, Boling, Wis, Iupati and Cherilus, It would easily be the best starting line in the league. HOWEVER, that line will cost us about.....35M$ a year. Totally un realistic.
-
I'm shocked someone picked u Bradfords contract. I knew they were probably shopping him, but I never thought someone would take him.
-
Can everyone stop freaking out until we see the contract details? If he signed for 4 years 28M$ with 12M$ Guaranteed, then yes, I will join you all in the freaking out. If he signed for 2 years, 6M$ with 1M$ Guaranteed, then he's a rotational player, and everyone shut up

AJ has been doing it for YEARS regardless of who has been throwing him the ball. Murray had one good year behind the arguably the best OL in football. You proved my point. Why are you wanting to give a one year wonder money over someone who has proved themselves regardless of the circumstance. On top of that our offense goes through Luck, so again why are you paying a RB that kind of money who MIGHT get 20 carries a game. Excellent logic chief....
By the way remind me how good our OL is..
Our OL is bad, on a good day. However, it seems like we are trying to make it mediocre on a good day. My point, is that almost any WR can get 1000 yards in our system. Nicks could get 1000 yards if he was our #2 WR from day one. Moncreif can get 1000 yards if he's our #2 from day one. I bet Carter could get 700 yards if he was our #2 from day one. Nicks will cost half of 9m$ and Moncreif/Carter make less than 1M$ each I think.
When you look at our running backs, you have Trich who is terrible, but yet Donald Brown and Bradshaw made our line look good. Maybe our OL isn't as much of an issue as it seems? Maybe if we had a "good" running back we would have a "good" running game. Maybe we lose some of our games because we can't run the ball. I don't think we're losing many games because Luck has no targets. Let me give you some stats.
When Luck throws for 300+ yards, 7W 3L
When Luck throws for less than 300 yards, 4W 2L
When our leading rusher has 60+ yards, 6W 1L
When our leading rusher has less than 60 yards, 5W 4L
When Luck throws for 300+ yards AND our leading rusher rushes for 60+ yards, 6W 0L
If the Colts want to go to the SB they need to be able to run the ball. 8M to Murray RATHER than 9M to Johnson will help us win more games.
Want some more stats?
Of Green Bays 4 losses, only once their leading rusher ran for 60+ yards
Of New Englands 4 losses, only once their leading rusher ran for 60+ yards
Of Seattles 4 losses, only once their rushing leader did NOT run for 60+ yards. In contrast, Wilson only threw for 250+ yards 4 times.
Again, the Colts will win more games with Murray than Johnson.

Soooo you'd rather pay money to a guy who ran behind arguably the best OL in the league, but wouldn't pay a guy who produced almost 1000 yards with 3 very poor QB's. So to reiterate, you want to bring in a RB who will NOT have the best OL to run behind, BUT don't want to bring in a WR who WILL have, arguably, a top 5 QB throwing to him? I'm just making sure I understand your logic...
Sooooo you would rather give 9M$/year to a 34 year old wr, when there are many many many other wr out there that could catch 1000 yards from our QB, vs give 8M$/year to last years leading rusher, when our 3M$/year RB can hardly make it back to the line of scrimmage? I'm just making sure I understand your logic..
-
2 years $18 million ($6 million guaranteed) is what I would offer.
9 m$ per year?? Really? I'd rather give 8M$ to Demarco Murray than give 9M$ to AJ. There is no way any team gives him 9M$ a year. I think 6 is his ceiling.
-
Yea he won't be on the market long.... Someone will give him a 3 year 20M$ contract.
-
I don't care if he's a RB, QB, WR, SS or a coach, if he's better than what we currently have, it would be an upgrade, which is a good thing. It gets sticky when you need to consider the salary. I'd take Forsett on a 3 year 6M$ deal in a heartbeat. I would not take Forsett for a 2 year 12 12M$ deal. It all comes down to numbers, simple as that. Anybody have any idea what kind of contract he is after?
-
The colts have always kept their cards close to their chest. The thing I like about all these players saying "I'm signing with so and so for xx years and xxx dollars, means we know exactly what the offer is, not what the agent "says" it is. If the colts want Gore, give him the same contract as Philly but add 1M a year to it, and Gore is a colt. People think we're "missing out" maybe we just don't value some players like other teams do?
-
I laughed out loud at that.
Could they do an incentive-based contract? I'm not contract/cap space/FA knowledgeable so I'm asking.
You can do whatever you want with a contract (almost) but players really like guaranteed money. If Atlanta offers him 2 year 14M with 7M guaranteed, and we offer him 2 year 8M with 0 guaranteed and a 500k per sack bonus (only need 6 sacks to tie Atlantas offer) he'll sign with Atlanta, even though he technically could make a lot more money here.
-
I don't understand this at all. What QB would they target to replace him? Hoyer? If they did trade him, what would they get in return? Sam Bradford? I don't see how SF can "win" a trade involving Kaep.
-
3 or 4 year deal?
I doubt that with a 3 year deal the 1st 2 would be fully guaranteed.
-
@OFranklin74 Franklin's deal with @Chargers is for $7.2 million average/year with $14 million guaranteed.
— Mike Klis (@MikeKlis)
March 9, 2015So it's either a 4 year 28.8 or 5 year 36. Either way 7.2/year is what your good-very good Guards make these days. I honestly think we're done with the Oline other than depth moves. I would like the C Wiz from Oakland tho!

Delete this, didn't notice my time was different than the boars time, didn't think this was in the mccourty tab already. Sorry mods

5 year 47.5M$ so avg of 9.5M$ per year. A little more than I would want to pay for him, we better be going for Adams and Searcy.
Afraid of going all denver

Would it be better if we didn't go all in and still didn't have a ring to show for it?
