  1. I see a Head coach trying to figure out who and what he has at QB. Chunk plays are winning plays yet we didnt throw it deep once to force the defense to defend the receivers down field. This game looked to be heading to a blowout in the first half. Marlon Mack single handily kept us in the game and when we needed a miracle Hooker with the interception

of the year.  Though I am not putting all this on the coach.  We have been told JB has  all the checks downs and can use them as needed.  This is who JB is. He is someone who will let the balance of the team carry him forward.  He learned from Brady and I think he took a lot from that relationship. I like everyone else would like to see him open it up but Im not 100 that this is his MO. This is why I believe we are 9-7 team sniffing the playoff but not much more. JB would have to reinvent himself in some ways. I hope he does because he brings everything else to the table.

Have you ever been to Broad Ripple?  I've seen it happen a few times.    Go behind a Bush and fall in.   I bet it happens multiple times every weekend

He was swimming.  Read any article. He tried to lie to the police saying he was wet because it was raining.  I brought him up because he was also 22 or 23 with an ego the size of Texas and money to boot.  He screwed up. In some regards what he did was worse. He WAS an Indianapolis Colt and he understood that came with certain expectations.  The point I was trying to make was when you are 22-23 , you dont really understand your actions have consequences yet. It takes a big mistake to right the ship. Mcafee did and became a lethal weapon and pro bowler for the Colts.

I actually hope he gets assigned to the PS so all these ridiculous posts stop. I don’t think I have ever seen this about a player that has zero experience in the NFL.

At the expense of Walker who has done nothing but be another good teammate

working constantly with 3rd and 4th string players and getting no love.  I would

rather keep Walker there and take a flyer on CK. If it dosnt work out, then just

    cut him.

Between waivers and free agency, are the Colts done bringing in new talent? I realize we won't stop looking, but it seems we are pretty satisfied with the personnel we have.

Im going to guess Ballard may be done for now.  This team is solid. The only thing that has me thinking is if he decides to bring in a premier back to pair with Mack.  IF they truly want to keep JB around and possibly be the new franchise QB , he is going to need a top five rushing attack to take the pressure of him.  If our O-line regresses from last year it is going to be really hard for JB to move the ball.

Is that a serious question. Mcafee didn’t break into someone’s home or threaten to shoot up a bar with a assault weapon.

My point was Indy has record of giving second chances to players that have been arrested. If being a immature 20 year old making a huge mistake is a life sentence, he would not be representing the Indianapolis Colts right now.

  6. Needed at Qb2 while CK serves his suspension anyway.  Its also

injury insurance. Defenses are going to be all over JB early on.

Teams have been hearing how good the colts are and will be playing

their A game every week.  I wouldn't be surprised if JB gets dinged

up and has to miss a few games. Hoyer coming in could potentially

    supplant JB.

  7. I may be going way out on a limb here.  You pair Chad with a capable defense and

he is going to win a lot of games.  He has traits that I swear sometimes I feel like Im

watching Luck when he came into the league. They both are freakishly athletic, they

both have no fear carrying the rock, they both will put the team on their backs.

Where I think they are different is CK seems to have a quicker release. Something Luck

was working on as recent as last year.  Chad may actually be a bit faster which is hard to

believe.  Its too bad we dont have more tape on him.  If we did I think he would be pushing

for QB1 much sooner.  JB might be frustrating to watch after seeing how smooth an offense

can run with a quicker release and accuracy. But its JB's team now and I just dont think

Chad has a chance to overtake him unless JB gets hurt or is absolutely over his head.

Sometimes you can read the players by their actions. If you see a Lethargic offense its

because their has not been any trust developed yet.  If you fail to see that trust develop after

3-4 games that could be another way in for Chad.

Here to balance what seems to be the way over hyping this team from some on here.

Before the Luck saga a few were saying we were due for a down year.  The preseason showed we cannot run the ball even with 90% of our starting o-line. Look I really like Jacoby. He is the perfect backup in this league.  He is the ultimate pro. If the preseason imo is any indication how this season goes its going to start exactly like last year where we put ourselves in a big hole early. The problem is we dont have a top 10 QB anymore who can pull miracles out his butt while putting the team on his back at all costs.. Jacoby deserves better and quite frankly he knows this is Lucks team and its going to be super rocky early on getting everyone on the same page.   This is less about Kelly than it is JB.

Now lets flip my argument and put a new twist on it.  Irsay coming out after the initial reports saying he wouldn't rule out Luck coming back makes me think Luck might be struggling with something else right now that has less to do with injuries. I can

see the Ballards logic to keep JB around if there is even a small chance that happens.

The problem with that scenario is Indy pretty much burned that bridge when they booed

Luck off the turf.  Who knows but its interesting to think about. Either way I will be rooting for the Colts regardless who the QB is.

If JB gets a extension it will probably be starter money. But it most likely will only be something like 2 years so they are not stuck if it doesn’t work out. I think it is important to show the fans the organization is behind him.

They are in panic mode right now, dont anyone kid themselves.  They absolutely

need to show unity right now because its a business first and the cost of losing a fan

base even for 2 years would be devastating to this organization. Ballard also knows

all the good Karma he has had can turn instantly against him with 1 wrong move here.

I dont mean to sound harsh but what just happened is unprecedented.

  10. Shock is over. This sucks but here we go.

imo JB was never brought in to take over the franchise. He was brought in to game

manage in the event Luck was injured. Hence the reason for the extension and

not a full blown guaranteed multi year contract. He game managed his way to 4 wins

in 2017.  Watching his recent performances, I see the same JB.   I hope he does

better this year but to me the better question is how long Ballard goes before

he makes a change. What sucks in the whole deal is we no longer have value in

potential trade involving him. His value right now is potentially higher than

if he even manages a 8-8 season with the weapons and defense we have. A smart

business man would like to get something in return for his two top QB's because

as it looks now, he will get zilch return unless JB lights it ups this year.

We are pretty much screwed one way or the other because JB is not going to be

the long term answer.  It wont happen but they should start Kelly and trade JB

for depth at the o line.  You could also kick the tires on a vet but your in the same

boat than with JB. They wont be the long term answer either.

Kelly looked down right capable as a started in this league with a ceiling that

resembles a Mariotta or better.  He is more like Luck in that he takes those chances

and threads the needle to the max. However I would rather watch that feast or famine

approach then another year of game management and enough wins to be a complete

waste of time.  Im still watching because I would love Brissett to prove everyone

wrong including myself but Im  not just looking at this season. Ballard needs to

put sentimentality aside and do whats best for the shoe.

That is fine. But you also can’t forget what they did all year. Yes we can look at those games and see where we need to improve. But to just forget what they did all year is silly.  Especially when it’s clear the injuries and us just running out of gas was a big factor in this loss. You can’t say someone is bad or good based on two games.

They played great no doubt and the offense and defense fed off each other.

Luck can hide a teams true colors. This why I dont believe he gets the attention he deserves.  Twice now he has taken a bottom dweller team to the playoffs. 2-14 in 2011 and 4-12 in 2017.

I think most people see it for it it is now that history has repeated itself.

What drove me crazy with Venturi yesterday is he was basically saying that almost every position especially the oline needs looked at. That maybe it’s not as good as we thought. He never once mentioned maybe we were out of gas and things just crashed. With the way things went with every single phase crashing my guess for this loss was more that we just crashed and burned after being in playoff mode for 11 weeks.  He kept saying forget about the weak teams we played we need to evaluate on the NE and KC game. I think that is totally unfair.

I don’t care what anyone says we are not that much worse then KC.  If this had been a game coming off a bye and the field was better we would not of looked that bad.

I agree with Rick here.  We cannot be looked at as an up and comer anymore.  He is measuring us against the elites as the next step in our evolution and saying we still have work to do. OL depth has to be a priority along with Edge rusher and WR.  KC just showed us how small our margin of error was through this whole playoff run.

  13. I believe in Ballard. Rick is right to a degree but when you (dare I say) rebuild a team you are also rebuilding the culture.  You have to give culture equal if not more representation.  Once that has developed, which I would presume it has now, then adding one or two knuckleheads shouldn't sink the ship. Rick is just prognosticating more than anything for the reason he can come back next year and say I TOLD YOU in January you needed to bring in talent.

  14. Maybe this is just an over simplification, But imo nobody was going into Arrowhead and winning that game. It was evident on our very first drive. We were dominated on both sides of the line throughout the entire game.  You want to win THAT game you better be playing at home and even then KC may have still beat us. We started two rooks on the OL with little to no depth.

We NEED to get bigger and more physical up front.

  15. This team needed a total overhaul. Tolzien and Morris should never have been in the future plans. The argument being made for Morris unfortunately are by fans of a bad football team with sub par to average talent. Neither of those players should have been given any serious consideration. Ballard is doing something that I didnt think would ever happen in Indianapolis. The love affairs are gone. You produce or your gone. As fan's we(I) may need to temper our excitement for players because this is the NFL and we finally have a GM that wants to build something that should have been built years ago.

  16. OP- Your kidding right.  Like others have said our defense was ranked 26 and our tight ends were nearly invisible all year.  The positional coaches have to be evaluator's of talent as well. If they are not giving good feedback to the HC on a players ability then that is a problem. Our backup talent is pretty terrible on this team. Our positional coaches need not be afraid to voice their concerns with the HC.  The hope now is with the handcoffs being taken off Pagano, he now can lean on his staff and make better decisions on who plays. If they dont pan out, then with this new balance or power we are seeing there should be no problem for those idea's to brought to the table. Pagano should have more of a say who plays.

Journalists are becoming more like weathermen everyday. The just throw stories out there as fast as they can, and if they're right 50% of the time, that's considered pretty good. This situation was so unique though because NO ONE predicted the outcome, and that rarely happens.

Now dont give our weatherman a bad name :) unless they have started selling crystal balls that I didn't know about no one should be predicting anything.

I don't think the rift was as big as they say it was. I think Irsay sat both of them down and probably gave them some incite about Head Coach/GM relationships.  We have to understand that neither one of them(Grigs and Pagano) is all that experienced with what they are doing.  They both came in as newbies for the role.  He probably told them about situations where some of the great head coach and GMs maybe at one time butted heads and told them how to deal with the situation for long term success.  Probably gave them scenarios where Dungy and Polian maybe disagreed or other situations in NFL history.

    Agreed- Link to support this.

    http://espn.go.com/nfl/story/_/id/13650458/jim-irsay-denies-reported-rift-indianapolis-colts-coach-chuck-pagano-gm-ryan-grigson

The last paragraph should prove the media has bias.

"Whenever these guys are in coaching -- players and everything -- everyone has to win," Irsay said. "That's a given. I don't look at it as he's coaching for his job or anything like that. I really don't see the dynamic being anything different than any other year in the past to be honest with you. I don't see it that way at all."

So even though we get a quote directly from the OWNER of the team, that Pagano is not coaching for his job, the media creates their own reality based on anonymous and probably complete garbage sources

  19. Typical media. They are nothing more than a bunch of bookie's hedging their bets on

information that is second, third and forth hand. To think that anyone knows what truly

is going to happen when things change all the way up to the very last second of D day

is ridiculous. Yes, I can be a cynic at times but unless you hear something from the horses

mouth, never put any stock into anything you hear. Plus you have to take in account how

savvy Irsay is when it comes to social media. You have to know he is just sitting back in the

big chair laughing his butt off because so many people have no clue what he is going to do.

Notice he didnt make a point to berate any local media for putting false information out there, If it were truly a sensitive subject that a potential big deal teetered on the validity a perception, he would have made a point to call someone out.  He didnt which tells me , know one will ever know what Irsay is going to do. To think otherwise is crazy.

I don't buy that for one second.  Every media outlet - national or local - was proclaiming there were issues between Grigson & Pagano.  Literally everyone had Pagano out of work.  I don't believe for a second that everyone had it wrong.  I just think the story changed throughout the day yesterday.

Did any media divulge any real sources to their info? You could be right but I tend to think it snowballed with one so called "Source"  and all the other news outlets ran with it. I highly doublt Irsay is going to tell Krapitz or Doyel what his plans are. They hang out at the facility all day for 1 second of juicy information. To me they should have their media badges revoked for portraying something that started a media frenzy all over the NFL.
