Don’t watch a bunch of Iowa state games but just watching some of his highlights, this kid has massive potential. Kinda hoping Ballard double dips in the wr class pool. Butler in the 2nd then Isabella in the 3rd or 4th. Imagine ty on one side Butler on the other with Isabella working the slot. Frank would have some fun with these guys.

I like Butler, he's one of the few I'd be content with the Colts drafting in their 1st three picks. Harmon, Metcalf, Harry, Deebo, and Brown are probably the others. The rest can, and should, be had in the middle rounds.

I don't think that is what the analytics crowd is saying.  Plenty of prospects that meet these levels don't pan out for one reason or another, it is just much more likely that they wont pan out if they don't meet minimum thresholds.

Once an outlier is found, then they become the new minimum threshold.  I mean, are you saying that your prospecting talent is soooo good that you are able to pick out the exception to the rule?

If you are using a 3rd round pick on a guy that isn't going to be an all-pro then that is to be expected.  But if you are using the 3rd overall pick, don't you think you should try to get BPA and a guy that meets these thresholds?

No, my prospecting talent is mediocre at best, unlike most people on this forum I know -and can admit- that lol.

I'm sure it's a percentage of what goes into the determining process, but to say that Simmons won't pan out based off of that, when he's destroying SEC competitors, doesn't make sense to me. Guess we'll see over the next few seasons.

Imop I can see Brissett coming into play here. Oakland has 3 first round 4,24,27. a second at 35 and a 3rd round at 66 it might be possible to get a good trade with the raiders to get a first and a third for brissett. only if the raiders want to give up on their QB

We aren't getting a first for Brissett, more less packaged with additional picks. The trade up option is probably best case scenario.

    Interesting post and debate.

First of all, we won't have a giant draft like the one CB had last year. He hit bullseye on almost every single pick, and that won't happen again.

If we get 1 very good player/ extra ordinary good player from this years draft and 3-4 starters down the road, I'll say CB has nailed it once again.

But don't count on CB hitting 8-9 bullseyes once again, thats almost impossible two years in a row.

So, the trade up in this years draft, I think is very much on the table.

Furthermore I think CB will be extremely agressive in free agency and try to land 1 or 2 big name free agents, that fits the locker room and that can contribute from day one.

He may have looked at the Chicago - Khalil Mack trade from last offseason and the value and impact it gave Chicago, and try to do it CB style.

Ballard knows he and the Colts need a stud Pass rusher on defence, and if and when some of the big free agents hits the market, he will go after one of them and give that player who fits the colts locker room the best, a huge contract.

Ballard told the press on the season ending presser that they were very much aware of the 98% salary cap spendings, and that they wen't pretty bare boned the last two seasons. He may not have expressed it in words directly, as he's too clever and intelligent to share his plans with the press. But Ballard knows he's has to open up the wallet this off-season and spend more than he's done the last two seasons, and I bet he's planed this strategy from the get-go since his arrival in indy.

Another thing is that Indianapolis won't be in a position in the draft to get one of the top players, unless he trades the next two drafts for such a player, so look toward free agency for those big time players.

Im not saying he's going after AB, BELL, Clowney or Lawrence and that's his plan, but I won't be surprised if he does and Indy are rumored to be in the conversation for all of those players.

Lastly, I've heard the Colts might take a look at Stephen Gostkowski if he enters free agency, and I know Adam Vinatieri might be back, but don't be surprised if we sign Gostkowski and let Adam walk. Ballard is thinking long term, and sometimes you have to let go of players you love, but It's all about winning in the end, and Gostkowski is a younger version of Adam. I won't like if this happens, but can we secure a kicker for the next 10 years, I would do it like Peyton was let go before Luck came around.

I don't see why he can't have a great draft again, especially having 3 picks early like they do. Hitting on your early picks is what you're expected to do to be a successful GM, and vital in creating a successful franchise long-term. Hell, the Patriots have found talent all through the draft for years, and is a component in the success they've experienced over the years. That being said, I think Ballard and Co. are just good at talent recognition, and Reich knows what/who he wants for his system to be successful going forward. It takes cahones to take a Guard at #6 overall, and isn't sexy or a fan favorite, but it was an excellent decision.

  5. Really like that mock tho! Think Ferguson is a gem, and will slip not being from one of the football factories. Would prefer Oruwariye/Baker at CB, but Murphy is a stud.

And yeah, Sweat is increasing his stock by the minute, unfortunately. I hope the Colts move up and get him, I think he's gonna be a Pro Bowl edge rusher at the next level, the kid is an athletic specimen.

Just based upon current thinking in the mock draft world, Williams, Simmons and Oliver should each be long gone before the Colts pick. Wilkins may be gone as well.

Willis is an intriguing player, and might be a guy that Ballard will sit on for round 2;  but at this point he doesn't crack the first round gang. Subject to change of course.

Dre'Mont Jones......there seems to be a genuine split of opinion on the guy. He's very talented, but he's not a sure fire 1st rounder at this point.  I suspect he'll be there for the Colts in round 1 if they want him.

I don't think Tillery fits on the Colts.

So....of the DTs potentially of interest and available to the Colts at #26, , you're talking Wilkins, Jones and Willis. My guess: look for Willis with the #34 pick.

I'm really high on Dre'Mont, and would endorse taking him at 26. He's a terror as a pass rusher, really athletic.

There's 2 camps really, one says he should gain weight and work on stuffing the run to be a total 3T, and the camp that says scrap placing him on the inside, shed 10-15 and put him solely on the edges. Either way, he's a really good talent, and I think will be a special player at the next level. It's possible he could be had with their 1st pick in the 2nd. As athletic as he is tho, he's most likely gonna destroy the combine and move into the teens or 20s.

  7. So, after a round of research, here's how I have the current class of DT's ranked:

    1) Quinnen Williams (kid is gonna be special, his combo of burst and strength are unmatched, he is the highest graded DT to come out in 5 years per PFF. His speed leaves defenders looking silly 95% of the time, and that was against supreme talent in the SEC. Has insane strength at the point of attack, finished tackles basically every time, and has the ability to shed tacklers and take down ball carriers simultaneously.  Kids a freak. HIS GAME FILM AGAINST LSU MAY BE THE MOST IMPRESSIVE I'VE SEEN AT THE COLLEGIATE LEVEL)

    2) Jeffery Simmons (has freakish talent and athleticism, and has the potential to be what Williams is/will be. He actually possesses better size, but it's more unrealized. Could make an immediate impact, but isn't as NFL ready as Quinnen. Has the meanest bull rush of anyone listed, and lifts defenders into the play, majorly disruptive...tho can get caught being too upright at times, needs to work on pad level, can be coached at next level)

    3) Dre'Mont Jones (I'm higher on him than most, and he needs help as a run stuffer, is probably more of a 5T in a 3-4 than a 3T in a 4-3. He has ridiculous speed and burst, and really knows how to finish once he's beat his man. Has a really keen instinct for dislodging the football, could be a FF/strip-sack machine in the NFL. Has a pretty deep stable of moves to get into the backfield)

    4) Ed Oliver (I'm sure he's gonna go in the Top 10, or just outside, but is more middle-to-late 1st Rd imo. He's shorter than he's listed, and has shorter arms, doesn't have the strength necessary to beat larger G/T, and the speed isn't there to play outside...not sure what he's gonna be at the next level? His stats are ridiculous, but they aren't against top-level talent, so it's difficult to gauge)

    5) Gerald Willis (sick spin move, could get him paid at the next level, has really good burst and lateral quickness. Needs to work on leverage at the point of attack, can get worked by larger players, goes upright too fast and gets beat. He is more on the unrealized potential side, than the already developed "you know what you're getting" type guy, which is good, because with proper coaching/development he could be an excellent all-around DT. Had 18 TFL this year, largely due to his ability to close and finish, utilizing the speed/burst I mentioned above.

    6) Christian Wilkins (better than Dexter, and has a strong lower body in stopping the run, hard to move off his spot. Has requisite quickness as a 3T, but not nearly fast enough to play exclusively on the ends. Might already be as good as he is gonna be? Solid overall, but doesn't wow you with athleticism like some of the guys above)

    7) Jerry Tillery (man, I'm a huge ND fan and wanna put ol Jerry higher, but to be fair he isn't the athletic marvel thatd the top few guys are. He has probably the best motor of the guys listed, and gets insane leverage by being the first defender off the ball on most plays, but can struggle when he doesn't get there first. He's a big body, and is excellent in stuffing the run, is more of a pure 1T than a pass rushing 3T.)

  8. Quinnen Williams is the highest graded NT they've graded in the 5 years they've graded at PFF, and one guy said he was the fastest he thinks he's ever graded. He is an animal, to put it lightly. You put a guy like that up front, and have Leonard cleaning up behind him, and Hooker cleaning up behind him...you got one hell of a setup.

Just saw a highlight of Williams stunting to the right, he goes all the way around the tackle and back thru to the QB for the sack lol, like an Edge would. You shouldn't be that quick as a DT.

  9. I'd be okay with them moving up to grab J Allen, Oliver, or Sweat if they started falling. Those guys are the players that would instantly wreak havoc in opposing backfields. They'd still have a great pick in the 2nd round (assuming they sent the later 2nd round pick).

Could they send the earlier 2nd rounder and have a shot at Bosa or Quinnen Williams?

Adding Quinnen would give them a superstar at all 3 levels...veddy niiice

Is that the most recent one? Yeah that’s bad. One before it was better. Walter Football sometimes is decent.

I like Arcega-Whiteside, just not in the 1st. I'd be okay if they went with other areas of need and snagged him with like the 3rd rounder

Yeah, that was the most recent. What I'm finding with these mocks is that they're all just what people think they'll do, and most of them don't have much -if any- insight to how teams are currently building their rosters, or GM philosophy.

Draftsite is a terrible site tbh. First of all, it’s not even worth reading until March. Second, its not worth reading after the 1st round because they may just be simulating or randomly generating the picks after that as they have no rhyme or reason. Use Drafttek.

So, I looked at Drafttek mock, and they have the Colts going:

    1) Arcega-Whiteside (horrible pick)

    2-1) Oruwariye (good pick)

    2-2) Justice Hill (horrible pick)

    3) Erik McCoy (a Center from Texas AM...not a good pick)

I absolutely hate that mock lol, if the Colts were to make those picks, I'd be thoroughly disappointed.

  12. I'm all for people getting second chances, and being able to redeem themselves. If we're going to permanently condemn people for one wrong decision (like none of us have ever made substantial mistakes), then what does that say about us? I know the nature of the situation was very serious, and shouldn't be taken lightly, and I most certainly don't condone that behavior, but I truly think he should get another shot. If he screws up again, then it's like George Bush once said "There's an ol' sayin' in Tennessee......err no...it's in Texas, probably in Tennessee! Fool me once -shame on- shame on you...fool me...ya just caint get fooled again!"

There's a LOT of good Dline prospects in this draft. Someone will drop, as they always do.

I can see Ballard doubling down on Dline prospects with his first two picks, like he did last year for the Oline.

Yeah, but there's only probably 5-7 that are elite options, ones that I'd legit be excited about them taking at 26. At a certain point I'd rather they went with an elite player at another, less coveted, position of need.

But yeah, I totally agree that he will double down on D-line players if the right ones are there.

  14. Metcalf is the best WR in this draft, I'm praying that teams pass on him because of injury concerns, just like they did Jaylon Smith. Smith was the steal of that draft, and easily should've been a Top 10 pick, and Metcalf is in the same boat. He has Julio Jones written all over him, and will likely slip to us with our 1st pick in the 2nd.
