He mentioned in another video that he needs to work on keeping his hands inside.

He doesn’t think he’s the best lineman in football. The video is in another topic (interview with Cris Simms).

Idk if he's the best lineman in football, but he was a rookie! He's only gonna get better, and he was apparently playing with a fairly severe injury...and still mauling people! Lol the kid is a monster. I'm a huge ND fan, and I'll be honest, I don't remember him being that vicious up front for ND. I mean, he was great obviously, but looks like he's taking it to a whole new level of nasty

I'd use our first on him depending on who else is around, this DL draft group is great if someone like Brown or Simmons slips to us I'd jump all over it. But if the draft was right now and we got him I'd be happy. But with how strong this class in on D I could see him sliding to the top of round 2 and that would be great.

I agree. There should be a couple guys that may make it to them at 26. Brian Burns, Jaylon Ferguson, Charles Omenihu, and Oshane Ximenes are all pretty likely available with our Jets pick in the 2nd, and Montez Sweat, Dexter Lawrence, Jachai Polite, and Dre'mont Jones could potentially fall to us in the first. I'm all for them going dline with the first couple, get an edge guy and a 3T, or at worst a 1T that can occasionally get to the QB.

He would be but, heaven forbid, we might have to pay him to get him. Or pay Flowers or Clark or Jarett.  This board will go crazy if we pay a big contract to a FA.  Pay market value?  Maybe set a new market?  No way.   A great majority would rather let them go to another team and rather bring on the second tier guys.  We have to save that Cap.  We can't "over pay" whatever that means.  Can't have that.   I will LOL if Ballard does pay one of the top FA's.  I hope he does for the team's sake and it will also make for great reading when it happens.  FA can't come fast enough for me.

People keep saying "it's not Ballard's style!" when in reality we reached out to several, they just didn't wanna play for what, at the time, appeared to be a dumpster fire. Ballard has made it clear that if he feels the locker room has reached a level of cohesion great enough to withstand a bigger ego, then at that point in time he would entertain that idea. Well boys...it's about that time.

And i thought CB was very clear. At some point you have to be able to man up and get some stops. So what do our safeties need to be able to do?

Well, in Eberflus system, they need to basically be athletic zone defenders that have speed and range. Making plays on the ball is essentially their role in the zone. The other safety is essentially just another FS like Hooker, which is why Abrams, Deionte Thompson, and Juan Thornhill all make sense, they are the rangey ballhawk guys that we need. Kind of a side note, but if we get a pass rush, and can get to the QB with more consistency, and add one of those guys listed above, this defense will be heads and tails better next season. Ballard knows this, that's why pass rush, and another playmaking S opposite Hooker are both high on his list.

Matt has roots from both Rod Marinelli and Monte Kiffin, both zone gurus. The key to that system being effective is generating a pass rush, and well...we sucked at it. But, it also would have helped to have Hooker healthy all year, and another playmaker back there with him.

The whole strength of Flus scheme is having 2 speedy ballhawks that can cover their zones and make plays in front of them (ideally). A 2nd player opposite Hooker (and similar to him) is nearly as essential as the pass rush. (Hint: Geathers isn't the guy, he's a LB in disguise)

The chances of the Colts finding another back like Edge in the draft is about slim to none.  Especially when we draft them in the 4th. rd and back.  We can cherish the memories though.  Of course there is one available in FA who could who could change all of that.  Never mind "he would cost too much".

Stop it man, you're starting to sound logical lol. People are so die hard about keeping Lev out of town, but there's no denying he'd bring the offense to an entirely different level. Plus, if they either acquire a WR via FA, or draft one fairly early, the offense would rival the best in the league. It's no fluke that the top 4 offenses made the Final 4.

I think Bush in the second would be fine...not the first.  Should go Defense Line/Edge or CB with the first 2 picks...then BPA. WR or S

That's the thing tho, if they end up signing Flowers or Clowney (unlikely, but possible) or a high end edge guy in FA then that opens up the draft a little more. Same with WR and S, it's hard to predict, or mock anything, until a few weeks into FA.

No, I was talking general concepts.  I haven't really looked at SS much.  I probably won't seriously look much at individual players until late March.

Not a bad idea, let FA clear things up a little. It's hard to say who any team will target without knowing who they sign/release in FA. I'm ready for it to all play out tho, I know that. With all of the draft capital and cap $, it should be a great offseason.

  8. 5 minutes ago, DougDew said:

If Hooker is going to play the deep single high, then I want a SS who can tackle underneath.  I'd value tackling over pure coverage skills in that situation.

As far as WF latest mock.  He's probably talked to scouts after the Senior Bowl and is moving Deebo and probably Sweat way up the board.  The rest of his picks are sort of fill ins and shuffles after he moved those two (and probably others up or down based upon what he heard.)

Anybody in particular catching your eye?

I think any of Deionte Thompson, Thornhill, or Jonathan Abrams would be great additions, but all pretty much played FS in college.

IMO Bruce Arians is not returning in order to start a rebuild. IMO the Bucs think they are much closer than their record suggest. They think Arians is going to get the most out of Winston and Evans is his main weapon and he's crucial for the downfield type of passing game Arians' teams play. That's why I think Evans is not really on the trade market at all.

Even if a guy like Evans or OBJ were on the block, they'd cost way too much draft capital. No point in surrendering several good/great players (on rookie deals), with the talent recognition Ballard and Co have shown. Would you trade Q and Leonard for Evans or OBJ? No. Ballard's way is slower, and not as appealing to many fans, but it's way more efficient in the long-term.

  10. Didn't wanna make a whole new thread, but I'd really like to have Juan Thornhill, he's a Safety from Virginia. He could plug in immediately beside Hooker, and man that dude is great in coverage. The only other safety I'd rather have is probably Deionte Thompson, but he's likely off the board in the mid-1st. Thornhill, imo, is the 2nd best safety in this draft. Watch some tape of him, you'll like him.

I don't trip over Walter Football.  I think it's a good place to go to start learning base level info about the players. Who they are, names, positions, history etc.

Well, yeah...I mean it's a mock, like all of the rest. Except, Walter actually has direct contact with scouts and a lot of insider info that many of the other "mockers" do not. So, it isn't just randomly generated guessing, like most.

Yeah, it's a good place to acquire a basis. Game film on NFL Network is also great for a little more firsthand info. YouTube is another good one, tho all it generally shows is a player dominating for 3-5 minutes, which can easily skew your opinion of a player. It's good to have multiple levels of information, and make an educated decision from there, most people just go off of what they see in mocks, or what they hear others saying.

  12. Walter's latest (to be ridiculed by the many that hate him lol):

    1) Devin Bush OLB/DE Michigan

    2) Deebo Samuel WR South Carolina

    2) Isaiah Buggs DT Alabama

    3) Mike Weber RB Ohio State

Again, I like what Walter has them doing. Bush may be a bit of a reach at 26, but I've seen a couple of mocks with him in the first, and as high as 15 overall. The kid is a player, and if he wasn't on a team absolutely jacked with defensive talent, may have shined a lot more (Rashan Gary is a freak. Yeah.) Landing Deebo with the Jets pick would have me ecstatic, and I'm definitely not on the "take a WR early" train, so that speaks to what I think this kid could be in the league. Buggs is a big boy, and super disruptive. He was a Juco transfer into Bama, and had 9.5 sacks and a bunch of TFL's, he's a great bargain in the 50's and I think people are sleeping on him a little. The one pick I'm not super excited about is Weber in the 3rd, I'd rather they went CB, S, or OL there, and if they really wanna draft another RB (which I fully advocate somewhere in the 4-6 range), do so later. I love Weber from a potential standpoint, just not the idea of spending that much draft capital on a RB with what they already have in-house. Your thoughts? (Be gentle)

  13. Updated version has:

    1) Devin Bush DE/OLB Michigan

2-1) Deebo Samuel WR South Carolina

    2-2) Isaiah Buggs DT Alabama

    3) Mike Weber RB Ohio State

I actually like Walter's take again. I guess I'm in the minority, and he may be reaching a little on Bush, but I love landing Deebo with the first in the 2nd, and Buggs can get to the QB from the DT spot. I'm also aboard the train that says continue to take RBs in the middle rounds, because I'm not sold that Marlon Mack can stay healthy, or that he's built for the NFL Lead-Back Role. Aside from a couple great games against bad run defenses, he wasn't what you'd want. (Insert paragraph about how we need to sign Lev Bell) kidding! Lol

  14. Like the mock, especially the draft. I honestly feel like that's how it's gonna play out. I think a d lineman goes first, then some combo of DL, S, CB, or WR with our 2 in the 2nd. I'd love to see them trade up to land a Montez Sweat or Jachai Polite, and still take a WR with the remaining 2nd rounder. Or, trade Brissett to a QB needy team to move up, that would be ideal, may as well get something for him before he parts ways. I know Ballard really likes the guy, but wouldn't that give Jacoby the opportunity to take his career to the next level?

Side note, Tillery will most likely be there with our later pick in the 2nd, and if not, I'm not sure I'm comfortable taking him before that. As an ND fan, I would love to see them land Julian Love maybe in the 3rd or with the latter 2nd. It would be great to see them go Edge, WR, Tillery, then Love. I would be ecstatic, and it would majorly address some glaring needs.

  15. While I wouldn't be upset with any pick, I think WR is going to be able to be had well into the 2nd and 3rd rounds due to the high number of defensive players chosen, and teams reaching for that coveted franchise QB. So, I'd rather they waited and got close to similar value later than burn the pick early. Talent that can get to the QB, and create elite pass rush will be gone early, so I'd rather they addressed it early.

Bleacher Report just came out with it's list of draft targets for each team.  And they had Tillery as the Colts No. 1 target.  Nice write-up too.  Coincidental?  Both only a day apart.

I think the Colts definitely have a player LIKE Tillery very high on their board, and they did take Q Nelson from ND(which turned out to be an amazing pick), so yeah I could see it. I just hope that if they do take him, they do it in the 2nd round.

I'm a huge ND fan, and I'll admit that I think there's a few guys I'd take before Tillery. Dre'mont Jones, Oliver, Wilkins, and Simmons I'd take over him, Omenihu is probably pretty close to the same on my board, and Dexter Lawrence is maybe a hair ahead, but I think that Tillery has a higher ceiling being that he really only realized his potential this year and who knows where that could eventually take him.

Just pay attention to what Ballard has been saying. You build championship teams from the trenches out. To win the big games you have to able to get stops by your defense.  That is what he is preaching and I am buying.

We have seen first hand at having a team that scores points without a defense that can't get stops.

People aren't paying attention. These same people will trash talk the picks throughout the process, and then midseason when opposing QBs are eating turf, they'll be like "In Ballard we trust" and "Ballard nailed it, he's a genius". Whereas, if you'd just pay attention to what the guy's saying, the picks would come as no surprise, nor would the results.

  18. It's not that hard, most of the people who comment all of this stuff haven't taken the time to listen to what Ballard says. He's gonna build the lines, he built the Oline last year, so what does that leave? (Hint: There's only one line left.) He said they need a pass rush something awful, and guess where pass rush primarily comes from? Yeah, you guessed it. He's yet to draft a skill position guy prior to round 4, and all of the sudden he's gonna take the leap of faith and select one in the 1st? I've seen mocks with them going WR twice in the first 3 picks lol, someone's not paying attention. Unless the wideout is somehow a 3T in disguise, that's extremely improbable.

Sit back, and watch the Dline picks rattle off. I'd be blown away if 2 out of the first 3 picks aren't along the defensive line.
