The nice thing is they drafted guys that could allow them to move on from fries next season. I don’t know how I feel about moving on from Kelly. A young QB needs an experienced center for protection calls. But maybe Richardson after another year under his belt will have enough experience. Bt at least they drafted guys if they want to move on without having to pay a FA.

Behind the Colts - Draft Episode (5/1)

Pretty sure it was real. Colts originally tweeted it out. -
Colts select Adonai Mitchell WR Texas (Merged)
Restinpeacesweetchloe replied to danlhart87's topic in Colts Football
Steichen isn’t just going to give him the job. There is also room for both. Pierce was a huge part in the blocking game last season. Pierce doesn’t need every snap like last season. So if he can split with Mitchell it will probably help both their games. But Mitchell will have to prove he is willing to block. I think we need to slow down on Mitchell until we see him play. -
Chris Ballard on Pat McAfee Show about the draft

Ballard clearly had a few players in mind or he wouldn’t have traded down. He would have just took him at 46. So I wonder who the other players might have been. He didn’t need AD that bad or he wouldn’t have traded down. -
Colts select Adonai Mitchell WR Texas (Merged)

There will be. Mitchell is going to have to earn that spot. Pierce had the highest snaps of any WR in the nfl last season. . Colts will be keeping 6 WR. So that’s Dulin and Gould for those special teams. -

Colts Media Day 5-1. OC/DC/SPT Coaches/players

Does anyone else laugh when Jim Bob cooter talks football. He gets so excited and that southern draw comes out. -
People like to trash Paye. But he is a great edge setter who can get almost ten sacks. That is a really good player. I see where some were coming from with Dayo being the man out. Because Paye and latu are different types of players and you need both. So they could decide to keep Paye and not Dayo. Dayo though is so versatile and really good I would hate to lose him after the season.

I want to know what team Ballard made that call to to trade up. He didn’t deny calling AZ when asked about Harrison. -

This was really good. To see the interviews with Mitchell and Latu before the draft was cool. Probably one of the best shows they have done. Mitchell telling Ballard he will make him look like a genius was pretty cool. -

Something else noticeable is how mature Josh Downs is. He was great in his presser today. -

That’s one position I don’t worry about because Ballard has always been good at drafting linebackers. It’s not a premium position so it’s not hard to find good ones in the middle of later in the draft. Hard to believe that speed has been here that long. I remember when people were like who did colts just draft and there was no tape on him. Worked hard and has turned into such a good player. -

Player pressers today. How in the world is speed almost 29 already? LB could become a real need soon with both speed and Franklin approaching 30. -

I think colts could get a vet safety and CB. Safety will be the more expensive. Colts don’t need an expensive corner. Just insurance in case. Just depends how much that safety would cost. -

Right now where we stand baker probably makes the team. That should not be happening. We still have Lammons too. Just find a cheaper vet who has some experience as insurance. Spend the money on safety. The way the afc is shaking out 11-6 could still miss the playoffs. What happened with all the injured QB probably don’t happen this season. -

Not only a starter but he has ball hawking ability and the knack for creating turnovers. Outside of Kenny and Blackmon we missed having playmakers on the outside and at safety. -

I saw some highlights today of Simpson. He was on bowers during the Georgia game and did really well. From what I understand he may end up being Moore’s backup. I do like Ballard went for guys with play making ability. Maybe we can get something like what we had with Rodger’s. -

I hope flowers gets his explosiveness back because we need more speed and explosiveness at the other outside corner. I wish we had more speed. I would take a guy like Rodger’s over a guy like jones every day of the week. -

Brent’s was a second round pick. He should br starting. But I am not sold on the other outside corners or the depth behind them. -

The issue is our depth is just bad there. I am ok not even going and getting a starting corner. But at least go get a vet with some experience as insurance. We will see what happens. I am more concerned with FS. But hopefully cross has matured. Ballard hasn’t had good luck taking super young kids. Cross is starting to remind me of Quincy Wilson who was very young when drafted and never developed. -

The problem is we have seen this approach with Ballard fail year after year when he puts too much faith in guys. I hope he is proven right because I don’t want to see this secondary fail again. Again we will see if anything is added before the season starts. -

If you’re going to role with the young secondary that’s fine but the depth behind them is horrible. The way things are now baker is still going to make this team. He is really setting the secondary up to fail if injuries happen again. There is no depth. In an ideal world jones would like a 4th guy. If flowers gets hurt or can’t go right away and Brent’s gets injured again the are in trouble. Hopefully we add a vet to this CB group. This secondary will be in trouble if injuries happen again. FS needs to be better then what we have.
