Actually I do not agree with our schedule being weak. Our Division was the best it's ever been since I can remember. Texans were 11-5, Colts 10-6, Titans 9-7, Jacks were the only bad team at 5-11 and they even had a great defense. Our Division had a combined record of 35-29 which is good. The Division games weren't gimmes like in years past. We also played the Pats, Eagles, and Cowboys outside the Division = all Playoff teams. When we played the Giants they were even playing well.

    Great points all

  2. I remember how charged this state was when Chuck was diagnosed and the team was winning for him. The way the community rallied around him. Was a special time I will remember fondly. I sincerely wish Chuck the best and hope he does great..... except against the SHOE!

And don’t forget Peyton Manning lead a Colts team that overcame a 18 point deficit in the playoffs, granted it was only 15 at halftime but it’s still the largest comeback in a conference championship game I believe.

Who could forget that my friend... who indeed.

  4. Does this mean we draft another O lineman high in the 19 draft? I think we should considering the injury bug we’ve had at that position. If CB’s high on one of these tackles I hope he pulls the trigger. AC ain’t getting any younger.

  5. Our defense is feeling the effects of Chris churning the roster from aging players to “good” players with aforementioned football IQ and locker room presence.

With great coaching this can win games but when an offense with great players have a great game... that gap is higher than our good players having a great game. Our floor is a little lower than our ceiling is high at the moment imo. We have arguably one “Great” player on defense right now, we just need a couple more. I still love the effort of these guys.

I'm on the other end of the spectrum and a little nervous about

him being replaced with anyone on the team. On a positive note

I wouldn't mind Ballard doubling down in the draft with our first

two picks going towards linemen. Two D linemen or one D lineman

    and an O lineman.

I have become a fanatic about controlling the trenches of late.

Same here dude. I love watching our new trench guys being dominant physically.... been waiting a long time for it.

With the Colts picking most likely in the 20s of 1st Rd, I seriously doubt, swapping 1st and including JB in that trade would get the Colts to far up in the 1st.

However, like HoosierHawk said, there are several players I’d move up to get for JB, but don’t see that kinda value in JB.

Unfortunately I agree... however WITH JB we might be able to sweeten the pot with a mid round pick rather than a day one pick. If CB sees A perfect fit with one of these guys.

My best guess, and Im no expert, but somewhere between nr 32 and 1 ;)

I would believe that teams like:

The Rams, Pats, Chiefs, Steelers, Texans, Chargers, Bears and Saints will be ranked higher than the colts, but after those teams, it's a mess rank wise.

We would be mentioned together with teams like the Cowboys, Ravens, Browns, Green Bay and Seahawks, but how high or low we would be ranked, all depends on our draft and off season signings.

Remember, The Colts are a very young team and we still have a lot of roster holes to fill, before we can be mentioned as top contenders for a super bowl.

Should we sign Bell a top WR and another big freeagent to our defence, then we might crack the top 10 ranking before next season.

We’re in the top 10 power rankings right now m8.

Don’t sleep on Anthony Lynn of the Chargers winning coach of the year.  That 2 point conversion to win the game was HUGE.  It garnered a lot of attention.  I can see Lynn or Nagy 1 or 2 depending on how the Chargers finish & Frank probably 3rd.

Ballard should have the GM award sowed up.  The Bears GM should be 2nd.

I’d say that’s accurate. Chris did some major churning of the roster not to mention the draft. If all things are considered... youth, new and first time in position staff, and early injuries... I think they both get plenty of votes with Chris winning and Frank getting a nice honorable mention. Chicago’s staff did a great job too and deserves a tip of the hat.

(why do people keep paying attention to the likes of Steven A., Cowherd, Skip? This is precisely why they express outrageous takes... because it attracts attention and outrage and creates clicks... STOP FEEDING THOSE GLORIFIED TROLLS!)

Hey.... I like Cowherd. He’s a Colts fan. Says nice things about CB as well.

I would say it's mostly coincidences and confirmation bias.

The current Steelers I actually tend to think of as an offensive team.  All their big stars seem to be on offense.

Yep. Bad decisions in FA and the draft will change your identity quick, fast and in a hurry as well.

The kids will benefit from winning.  This team hasn't had a winning record for a couple of years now and Reich has said he plays the game to win.  He clearly wants a winner mentality for this club.  If Ballard is as good as we all think he is then he's going to find the necessary players to get this team to the next level regardless of where he picks.  I voted for 7th seed.

I agree with you big time. A young team needs wins for confidence in the fact that they are being coached up right and the front office/ scouting department is more than competent. Winning builds confidence across the whole organization and with CB and our scouts hitting home runs...I’ll take the 7th seed.

See , I think people are looking at this wrong.

    1) The rule changes have made it easier for lesser talents to become productive more than ever. It used to be that you needed an elite skill position player to get elite production , but now , similar to the QB position , marginal talents can be productive.

    2) Skill position players are the easiest to acquire later in the draft and in FA/trades. Everyone is in love with KC right now , but if you actually look at their skill position players , it shows this :

    RB- Kareem Hunt 3rd round
    RB- Spencer Ware Free Agent
    RB-Damien Williams Free Agent

    TE- Travis Kelce 3rd round

    WR- Tyreek Hill 5th round
    WR- Sammy Watkins Free Agent
    WR- Chris Conley 4th round
    WR- Demarcus Robinson 5th round

And this is the franchise Ballard is coming from. It's clear their ethos is to spend high draft capital in the positions hardest to fill . ie: impact defenders/big men.

It's much harder to find/acquire impact players in the trenches. Big men that can play are becoming unicorns. Every draft is deep with skill positions. Every draft. And every year you can acquire skill position upgrades in FA or via trade. Look at the past trade deadline if you want some recent examples.

    3) We have the 4th highest scoring offense in the league right now. That's right , with the nobodies and dudes Ballard found off the street , we have an offense that's borderline elite. What does that tell you? Think about it.

    4) Outside of QB play , rushing the passer is clearly the most important facet of the game now. It's not even close. Coverage sacks are becoming extinct , and if you can't create interior disruption , your defense is dead. The truly rare players -the ones hardest to get-- are impact DL. And you're telling me in a historically strong DL class , we should be taking a receiver? Why?

Yes, we should definitely upgrade our receivers, but no, it doesn't require us to use our 1st. Not at all.

I agree with every bit of this. If they like Cains’ recovery and what they’re seeing from Fountain at the end of the year... I think people will be shocked to see CB not take a receiver at all. I’m old school .... build those trenches! Nice prospects at tackle as well.

ps. Maybe a cb and ss.

  14. If Chris can nail another couple of drafts and pick up some median grade FA’s as better depth... I’d sure like to keep JB. If we are looking at 2020 as our potential run, then JB can certainly get us a game or two to get there if Andy gets dinged.
