Here's a perspective on College WRs having had less than 2 career YPRR. Adonai Mitchell is one of them.

It's a long thread, so peruse all the tweets under. This year might be an exception (as explained in the Twitter thread) because of the COVID shortened high school and freshman years for many of the rookies.

Agreed. I think as a draft, it is going go down as unremarkable. I think the OT's will thrive at the next level but not sure bout the other positions. Even our draft pick at #15. For the best rush end to make it to 15  kind of says something.   High  rated rush ends are     top 5 pick as they are so highly coveted.  I could see the wrs and a couple of OTs picked before our guy. However, teams didnt pull the trigger on Latua. Still love the pick

Im not certain if there will even be any room for Pierce bc the 4th and 5th receivers need to have special teams ability. I think AD will show enough to gain the Colts confidence. You know Dulin will be there. So from there you're competing with Gould and whoever else. You know Gould plays special teams.  Going to be interesting what they have in mind.

I think Pierce and AD will be on the field  together more  than people think. If nothing else, they are going to clear out the safeties for AD and JT. Have them running deep routes and the inside will be open for Pittman and for JT to run crazy once he gets to the 2nd level. AR can take off for some runs and it is going to force the safeties to have to play up and then boom!!

If he can’t beat our Ewers, I don’t see him making the nfl. Ewers is not that good at all

Mannings are playing the long game. When he is ready, he will start. These qbs are coming out to fast and not enough playing time in college.  He will probably play 4 years of college and be the number 1 pick when he comes out.

Picking it up, guarantees he doesn't walk out the door after next season.

Gives you 2 more years to evaluate. Pretty cheaply too. 2yrs $17.5m.

Don't see any reason to roll the dice, might only get more expensive, if his trajectory keeps going up this year.

Projected to have $56-$70m in cap next year, with his option already figured in.

I think with the addition of Latua, his playing time will go down and  therefore, he will not put up stats this year that will justify the 5th year. Don't do it and let it play out.  I really don't see anyone beating down his door after this season if the season plays out as I expect it will with their new addition and his playing time being reduced.

    Yes

    $13.1m isn't very much.

    $11m - Ebukam

    $13.1m - Paye

    $4m - Latu

Would cost about $28m next year. (5) DEs make that on their own next year.

    Bosa - $36.4m

    Watt - $30.4m

    Burns - $29.75m

    Chubb $29.3m

    Crosby - $27m

13.1 is not much as you say but what is the going rate for someone with his talent in free agency and the position he plays. Plus, he is not even guaranteed a starting job. Latua will be our starting RDE and Paye and Ebukam will probably be rotating. Not sure I would do it.

I believe Cross was NOT drafted to play free.  I believe he was drafted to play the strong side.

Now some safeties have been drafted to play both positions.  Cross could be one like that.  Try to play both.   But as I shared with another poster, Cross came out a year early from college so he has less experience than a normal draft pick.  His learning curve should be expected to be slower.   I think we will see Cross play more and more as the season progresses.  I still expect Blackmon to start at the strong side.

I thought with his speed, they always looked at developing him into a FS. Blackmon is more of an in the box safety and that became evident the more he played.

“Not sure he has the football smarts”.

Would you like to elaborate on this?

Not that it is right to make these assumptions. I think when someone comes with  all the physical traits and in Cross' case, I would say elite traits to play FS.  People tend to assume it is because of lack of instincts, inability to grasp the play book, immature , playing out of position  and/or all of the listed reasons. I don't agree with  the term football smarts, but  i kind of get where the person is coming from.

He fell because his tape is inconsistent. All the talent in the world but it doesn't show up all the time on tape. I don't know how he did in interviews but Colts were fine with it and Ballard defended his character. Sometimes GMs just overthink it. It's like Downs last year. He should've gone earlier but his size pushed him down the boards, to the Colts advantage. This was also a deep draft WR wise. There was about everything you could ask for in terms of WR profiles. It's not surprising that some teams would prefer someone who has better tape but is less talented (like Pearsall or McConkey)

If you went on just his highlight tape and his measurables, he is arguable in the same class at MHJ and Nabers. The issue is that his production doesnt match the talent. It is up to the Colts and Mitchell to put it all together. I cant wait to have him and Pierce on the outside and then go with whoever you want on the inside. I think if nothing out, it is going to clean up the running lanes. This could be an MVP year to JT. I think you are going to see an offence that is kind of similar to the 80'sand 90's brand of football lol

No,  you do your job.   Just like any other person

It's not about doing his job. It is about an injury. None of us knows what went on, so really to trade Ebron or Ballard is really a waste of time.

    Eric Ebron? The washed TE?

    Just fade into obscurity.

Assuming that Ebron is the wrong one, here is a little silly. I have no idea who is right or wrong. However, to assume he is lying is being really short sighted and very biased.

Football wise Mitchell seems amazing but just something about his attitude seemed off. It could be that he was really upset about dropping but it almost seemed he didn’t want to come to Indy.

I get what u r saying. To me he is the type of player that can be successful but it's  how u approach him when he is struggling that will make the difference. I have seen one of his post draft interviews, and I don't think he is the type of player that will respond to yelling and screaming. It will just take the right approach.

This was a complete hit job put on AD and unwarranted. We called him AD at Georgia.

At Georgia he was loved and adored by coaches, fans and players. We were all deeply saddened when he left.

The charge that he was uncoachable was one of the most bizarre charges I have ever heard.

This is a great pick by Ballard and suddenly puts the Colts back in the drivers seat for the division

When a guy with that type of talent slips to 52, there has to be a reason. I'm not saying it is that bad, but something in his profile was somewhat concerning. I do love that pick

I’m not a fan of paying a center $14 million either. I’m glad Kelly bounced back under Tony S., but at his age and price I would like a center.

I think the Colts r praying these last two picks work out. That way, they could let Kelly and Smith walk. Smith has been hurt too much to earn an extension.

Our box safeties aren't that great anyway.   I'd like to see Cross develop into a FS.

With his speed that's where his traits could  be an advantage. Hasn't been able to grab that spot but he was young coming out.

Love this one. We need a center for the future, this guy is going to be it

Best way to protect a D is to run the ball. These last two picks are also in the even they don't resign Kelly and Smith. I think we're going to a little old school. We r going to maul teams, go play action, and air it out. I wanted some corners, but I think this team is going to pound teams. Love the approach.

He has access to a nutritionist, dietitian, some of the NFLs best doctors. He’s going to be just fine.

I love what Ballard had done. However, it's not going to be that easy . This guy has all the talent to be legit. He has been to two teams and the same theme keeps reoccurring. He was most likely supported by nutritionists in his last two stops in college. For some reason, he failed to do, what seemed to be  a simple task, to take care of his health. He appeared to continue to bomb the interview process. All world talent inside a very immature body. Here is hoping that he can become what the Colts drafted him to be.

Just I figured would happen they went defense in the 1st round which was fine.....like I said drafting a wr that early who would be fighting for the #3 spot, you can get that type wr in the later rounds

I think there was an over evaluation of the wr talent and how loaded it actually is. I think moving forward it maybe slim pickings and that's why i am in favor of the Colts moving up to get their guy in the 2nd. Hopefully an elite pass rusher was found in the1st but they still need a corner/safety. Cooper could be that guy but I expect him to come off the board very soon.
