There are a few more free agents I would keep. Aiken, Gathers, Melvin and Mingo should not be let go without more work to see what they can do.
Aiken is an interesting case. He certainly didn’t “prove-it” last year, but might be able to with Luck and McD.

Maybe he won't, but I think he's a starter. He was running behind a bad OL, with bad QBing, and no receivers, and he averaged 4.4 yards/carry. Gore, with similar circumstances, hasn't hit 4 yards per carry in the last three years. Darkwa is a one-cut, run behind his pads kind of guy, was one of the best in the league at avoiding negative rushes, and showed a tendency to break for 20+ yards last season.
He's not electric, he isn't going to change your offense, but if you want a steady back, he's a good one. My offer might be high, but I think he'll have a market for sure.
I really like Darkwa, or at least think he could be a solid starter/three headed monster along with Mack and somebody else. Managed a solid avg. behind a poor O-line when he got the chance. Also he seems to be tough as nails, played through a fractured tibia for quite a while.
I'd love to see what he and Mack could do in McDaniels' offense. Even if we weren't able to get Dion Lewis like in your mock, I think Darkwa/Mack would be an exciting duo with Turbin being a nice power compliment to them.It seems as though Darkwa may have a nice upside. I also like Jerick McKinnon in this role. He is a bit more compact than Darkwa, but I like what he has done considering he has always had to split time with AP, Asiata and Cook. I would be very happy with your FA and draft. The only other thing I might consider is swapping Moncrief for someone like Cody Lattimer. That might be the homer coming out in me

Im curious about the Proposed Darkwa pick up, Superman. Will he command 3yr/14mil? Honestly, didnt recall much about him other than the unique name, so I looked him up stats. Appears to have had 2 good games last year, but very few touches/chances the three previous years. Wondering if you knew something I wasnt seeing?

A superbowl win would buy him about 5-6 years of unconditional love.

The one thing I am curious to see about Josh is this: His time management skills in the 4th Qtr & halftime adjustments as a HC. INDY has often struggled with halftime modifications to be charitable. We're fine when we've got a lead, but comebacks outside of Manning & Luck in his 1st 3 yrs hasn't always been pretty when we play elite teams.
How many 4th quarter leads did we blow in 2017? Just giving you a hard time
In all seriousness, i’ve thought about these same things. In addition, my fingers are crossed that McD is not the type to get overly conservative and/or predictable with a 2nd half lead. Safest bet in the house last year: If Pags had a 4th quarter lead we were gonna see string of run-run-pass-punt possessions.

I am choosing be optimistic about this report and Luck’s recovery, rather than making myself miserable by trying to dissect everything that comes via West 56th. I believe Luck is making progress, albeit not in the timeline I would prefer, but nonetheless it is progress. Can’t wait to see him out there next season.

Great thought but that draft won't happen. You have three possibly four 1st round players going in three rounds. No way! I would happily take it though.
Other than maybe Edmunds how so? I’ve not seen any prospect rankings where Hernandez, Jefferson, or Hughes go round 1.
Lance Zierlein has Edmunds, Hernandez and Hughes all going in the first. The link and mock have there own topic in draft section of this forum
-
Zierlein doesnt have Arden Key going in the first round. I would be surprised if he falls to the second. Ive read one article that Key may have some character concerns, but do not know the details. Based on talent alone, id love to get him in the 2nd.

Random thought here, my perception is Darnold and Rosen seemed to be much more hyped by nfl and college pundits prior to the start of the college season than they are presently. Is it possible that each has played himself out of being drafted 1 and/or 2? I am not suggesting that this year’s QB class is as bad as 2013’s class, but what is the chance that no QB is taken until well after the Colts pick?
Probably not very good, this is supposed to be the best quarterback class in years
I was just thinking that if I were a fan of an organization that had to hang my hat on one of these two i would be bracing for a bumpy next few years. But Either of these two QBs is probably a better option what is currently available to several teams. Perhaps, I am just a spoiled colts fan who has had an elite QB on my team for the better part of the last 2 decades

Colts Projected Cap Space 82 Mil
Colt's Free Agent Resign
Barkevious Mingo 2yr 4mil
Adam Vinatieri 2yr 4mil
Pierre Desir 1yr 2mil
Donte Moncrief 1yr 3mil
Jack mewhort 1 year 3mil
As much as I don't think ballard will resign mewhort or even if mewhort will ever play again, im willing to give him a one year deal just to see if can play a season without getting hurt. Melvin has proven he can a very good CB1, but I don't think ballard will give the type of contract melvin will be looking for because of one good season. I am giving moncrief one more year to prove he deserves a big contract. I'm gonna let this year go as the whole offense struggled. Gore imo doesn't fit mcdaniels offense. He likes scatbacks with a goalline back to pound the ball which we already have with turbin.
Colts Cap Space 70 mil
Colts Free Agent Signings
Andrew Norwell G 5yr 60 mil 30g
Demario Davis ILB 4yr 40 mil 17g
Todd Davis ILB 2yr 10 mil 5g
Dion Lewis RB 3yr 25 mil 13g
Jarvis Landry 5 year 55 mil 25 g
I really don't wanna make norwell the highest paid G, but I do think there will be a bidding war for him and we need to protect luck. Not sure if davis will leave NY, but he would be a great addition to our defense along with todd davis adding good depth., I wouldnt be surprised if mcdaniels brings lewis with him. He likes using multiple backs and I think him and mack would be dangerous together. Landry is the wildcard. Do I think the dolphins will let him walk? no, but I don't they want to tag him and pay him 10-12 mil for one season and current contract talks are not going well. Landry imo would be perfect in mcdaniels offense because of his great ability of working in space in the slot while averaging 100 catches a season, but also being able to stretch the field.
Colts Cap Space 23.5 Mil
Colts Draft
We trade back twice with the jets to get a QB and then with the bucs to get barkley. We get the jets 2nd and 3rd round pick and bucs 2nd and 4th round pick. Trade up with the pats for their 1st in exchange for the jets 2nd and our 4th
1. Minkah Fitzpatrick CB Alabama
Yes I know Fitzpatrick is a S, however he has played CB and I believe this is a transition worth taking a gamble for as this would make our secondary extremely formidable with wilson geathers hooker fitzpatrick.
1.Arden Key DE LSU
If it wasn't for his off the field issues and injuries, he would be a top 10 pick.
2.Orlando Brown T Oklahoma
Powerful blocker, but needs to work on his pass blocking
2.Malik Jefferson ILB Texas
Reminds me of Deion Jones. Had 110 tackles and four sacks, but needs to work on pass coverage.
3.Braden Smith G Auburn
Very good at run blocking and passing block, just not great.
3.Leighton Vander Esch ILB Boise State
Had a great season 2017 with 141 tackles 4 sacks and 3 ints
4.Dante Pettis WR Washington
Shifty, good hands, dangerous in space basically mcdaniels type of wr
5.Ian Thomas TE Indiana
Really nice size and hands. Not overly productive, but did score 5 tds
6.Ralph Webb RB Vanderbilt
Down season for Webb, however he did score 10 tds and the previous season he rushed for almost 1300 yards and 13 tds
7.Drue Tranquill S Notre Dame
One of the only birght spots of the notre dame defense with very good size and a good tackler
I would do a backflip and go streaking in the quad if this happened, however, I think Key will be drafted sooner than the end of the first and Brown and Vander Esch will both go a full round earlier than you are projecting. Fun mock up CR91!

For some reason, i feel like I would be disappointed if going in to the draft with the #3 pick, the only “elite” talent that we come out with is Quenton Nelson. Could any person from any round become elite...absolutely. However, as with any draft, guys who go in day 2 and 3 on average, tend to have lower ceilings.

Prediction: Brady loses the game by throwing a pick-6 in the last few seconds of the game. As the clock hits :00, the camera spans to Brady and stays on him for 5 minutes as he weeps uncontrollably. Giselle tries to console him with a bowl of kale ice cream, but to no avail. Brady is so devistated, he announces his retirement as the post game press conference and as he walks off the stage he punches BB in the face...or something like that

Yeah. Well, he was undrafted FA who has turned himself into an All-pro and pro-bowler. At least on work ethic, he seems to be hitting the mark.
Knowing this makes me want him in a colts uniform even more. Brings to mind another UDFA o-lineman we had for a number of years, that worked out pretty well. Hint: He knew the back of Peyton’s hand like the back of his own hand
-
I voted Chubb for many of the reason already stated on here so I wont regurgitate them, but I have some food for thought. Suppose Chubb is off the board when we are on the clock and the colts dont get an offer they can live with for #3. Is your preference Barkley by default or does another player enter into the equation? I am really high on Fitzpatrick. I know he projects at safety (not a position of high need for the Colts) but I think he is versatile enough (has the size and speed) to play at any DB position. He is a player that I feel will, in very short time, develop into someone who can cover any #1 WR in the league. Daniel Jeremiah describes him as a bigger Tyrann Mathieu. Sign me up for some of that!!! Just my opinion, feel free to pick it apart

Saw this t-shirt when I was in Cleveland last summer. Wish I’d have pick one up
-
Interesting tactic by Allen being his own hype man.
Publicly stating you want to be to savior for the Browns franchise might be just enough for the Cleveland FA to fall in love and pull the trigger at #1.
Keep it up Josh, you might just get us a trade partner at #3.

Having a coach who is willing to adjust his game plan...
wonder what the will look and feel like next year
I’m thinking McD might just bring a little of this to Indy.
I don't know, McDaniels' head coaching tenure in Denver still leaves a bad taste in my mouth. Seemed to have lost control of the team and had set them back a couple years until the Broncos found a get out of jail free card in Peyton. Maybe he will have learned from that and matured a bit as he goes to Indy.
But if he bombs out with the Colts I'd imagine he'd be on the next flight back to New England and they'd probably go for another collection of Lombardis as Brady tries to push 50.
You might be right on all fronts. Im just being glass half full. Even though I cannot stand the Pats, they are stellar at adjustments, halftime or other. I want to be able to clearly see that with the colts week in and week out. Fingers crossed that we get that with McD.

I loved what we got from R. Sanchez this year and considered him to be one of the better punters in the league in 2017. However, when i removed my homer shades and looked at the stats, he appears to be pretty average, which i am ok with. Prediction for 2018: We dont see much of Sanchez due to the Colts abilty to sustain drives

So we must sign James who is already signed, you want Pugh who has a bad back, and there just isn't a guy named Norman. So what the ___?
Pugh has had one back injury, last year which landed him on IR, I dont consider 1 injury to equal a bad back. Pugh has had a handful on other issues (quad, mcl, etc.), but I expect injuries with any player. All things considered I think the price tag for Norwell will be too high for Ballard and Pugh will be the Ballard’s target in FA. Further, I think Pugh’s contract will be in the $8 mil per yer range. FA, the combine and the draft cannot get here soon enough!!! I dont expect for the Colts to have any sexy picks or pick ups (exept for maybe Barkley), but I think we are headed toward a fun season.
-
Taking Barkley or Allen #1 overall feels very Cleveland-esk. I think this might have happened under many previous FO regimes, but this FO seem more conservative. My guess is Rosen and Darnold go #1 and #2, the Colts cant get any trade partners at #3 and go BPA, and then some QB hungry team gives up the house to Cleveland for the #4

15 other TEs made more than Doyle last year, including Dewayne Allen and Fleener. We are getting our money’s worth imo. He is a glue guy and should remain a Colt for a very long time.

The Colts finished #31 in total offense and #30 in total defense, (#30 in points scored and #30 in points allowed). There is quite a ways to go, hence the impending coaching hire and possibly another churning of the roster.
Again, things will look much better if Luck returns healthy.
If we had the exact roster on offense this year with a healthy luck zero chance we are 30th in offense and our defense play better than what stats show the breakdowns in the 2nd half play a big part in why they are ranked so low and the offense never played their part either
Agree with you here lance, we were bottom 3rd of the league in average time of possession, which led to an exhausted bottom 1/3 of the league defense.
