  1. I think a lot of the blame has to go to Kraft. For WEEKS he knew we were pursuing JM and stood by and did nothing. He knew he was in on a second interview, he knew the assistants were being setup and even hired, and he knew it was reported Josh was set to become the next HC of the Colts. He did NOTHING until the last second, one would have to think he did it out of spite more than anything. Nothing was found out yesterday that was already know by Kraft and his team. Only shows more bitterness and poor integrity by the owner in NE. It's all going to be alright, that will come back to get him at some point, just a matter of time honestly. Sure, JM is no better, but Kraft did this on purpose to stick it to us again. Sore losers and ungracious winners. I'm GLAD that we aren't the NE Patriots.

  2. This is insane. I guess, we will find a better candidate to take over the team. He obviously wasn't completely on board if Kraft was able to entice him to stay. We need a coach that is loyal and keeps his word, this guy obviously isn't that guy. Really hurt us in the search, but still a few decent candidates left. Unfortunately they will barely be in place for the combine in a few weeks. Ballard will earn his money with this damage control.

  3. I would have to lean Nelson, really only because he is an absolute stud and he fills a need. I do think Fitzpatrick is a very good player that will be great as well. Either one I would not be upset about at all.

I do like Edmunds a lot as well. He has all the physical talent in the world and he does well in areas that we will ask him to perform in (at the Mike most likely). I've said it before, but he does struggle a bit with the option plays and with the RPO becoming bigger in offenses, that is really my only deep concern with him. All three players would be a great addition for our team!

  4. I have started to look at the ILB prospects in the draft and this guy has me intrigued. He's 6'5" and 240-250lbs. Supposedly he will run a very good 40 time (4.5-4.6) and his tape is pretty decent. With our need at LB he could be a great piece to add to the mix. After it's all said and done, I bet he's a top 15-20 prospect. I would not be completely opposed to trading down for a really good deal into the teens and drafting this guy. He has a lot of tools, has good range, and plays pretty well chasing or straight up against blocking in his face. One area of concern (from my perspective) is he tends to guess against option offenses and that is big time boom or bust. Thoughts?

  5. If it were me, I would take Robinson above the rest. He gives us a big body on the outside that is a proven weapon. Some concerns about his durability after last year, but overall, I think he is a great player. If we were able to get him I would resign Moncrief on a decent deal and that would give you a solid group at WR. This would also allow TY to operate out of the slot more, which he has been one of the best in the NFL at doing.

  6. I really like Minkah for our secondary. He has all the tools to be a very good/great CB (inside or outside). He does have some Jalen Ramsey in him when it comes to his ability to pattern match and run. Jalen did look slightly better in his transitions coming out, but a lot of that probably came from playing more on the outside. I do think they both have very similar tools and Minkah could have a similar impact on a defense. Ideally, I would rather trade back into the 5 or 6 spot and then draft him if we do. Taking him at 3 might not get quite the value as a Chubb. For me, he's on par with Barkley as far as impact he will have for our team. Plug him into out CB1 or CB2 slot and roll with him for a while to see where things go. Definitely think he will be a great player where ever he is lined up.

  7. I actually think the Chiefs got the best deal in this trade (initial feelings). They were wanting to go with Mahomes anyways and now they have an extra 3rd round pick and by many reports, a pretty dang good CB in Kendall Fuller. I believe he was one of the top (if not the top) slot corner in the league this year. Cousins has said he would "love" to play in Cleveland if he had the opportunity. That might even mean that Cleveland goes Chubb #1 and see if they can get Barkley at #4. It's going to be a crazy offseason, if Cousins was smart he would go to a team like the Broncos, Cardinals, or (ouch) Jags.

  8. I'm just not sold on Barkley at 3 yet. Not saying he isn't worthy of the 3rd pick, but not sure he is the best value for OUR team. All this "it's a fact" and "he's a sure thing" stuff has to stop though. At VERY best it's a educated guess, no fact at all in the argument since he hasn't stepped on the field. The speed of the game is a big difference in the pros and that can cause issues with ANYONE. Does he have the tools and potential to be great? Sure, a lot of guys have in the past. Do does Chubb honestly. If he tests well at the combine (he may shock some people at his size), he could be great. He did break Mario Williams sack record at NC State. Also consider a guy like Fitzpatrick in the mold of a Jalen Ramsey type of player. So many options, all have big time potential at their respective positions. It will be interesting, I think if we stay at 3 (depending on FA) we have to use that to maximize our return. Trading back 2-5 spots is my first preference, then taking Chubb would be my second (before seeing the combine this is subject to change), and third it would be a toss up between Barkley and Fitzpatrick (probably Barkley based on need).

I  agree with most of this, although I think Key would fit fine in a 4-3.  LSU is usually a 4-3 front I do believe.

He is a bit light IMO, but not too light honestly. The stuff I've seen he looks to be standing off the edge, but I agree, they are running a modified 4-3 most of the time. My only concern is how he holds up against the run in a 4-3. The kid has all the talent in the world from an athletic standpoint, he is a legit boom or bust prospect.

  10. A couple points:

    1. Key is a big time athlete, but he only wins with his speed most of the time. He isn't refined as a pass rusher and doesn't play the run as well as he should. He has good bend around the edge, but that's not going to cut it against good OT in the league any better than raw strength. His ability to transfer speed to power is still a little iffy.

    2. We are going to a 4-3 most likely, and I don't see a natural fit there. Sure we had mathis and freeney (which were somewhat undersized), however, they were better than Key coming out (maybe not the athlete, but had better technique).

    3. Key has major character concerns on and off the field. He tends to get a little lazy for a guy with his kind of athleticism and his off the field character is well documented.

    4. Chubb has elite agility for a guy his size. He can bend the end pretty well and then he uses that to his advantage to change that speed to power. Is he an elite athlete? Doesn't play like one, but he can move. He looks like a mix between Derrick Barnett and Joey Bosa to me. I'll take that all day over Key.

  11. Norwell will help a lot with stabilizing the middle of our OL. I still think we have some decent depth if we are able to grab him and then draft/sign another G or RT. Then let the last position be a battle. We can't expect to have 5 pro bowl players on our OL. Kelly is pro bowl caliber when healthy and AC isn't nearly as bad as some people tend to think. I would even say sign Norwell (overpay if needed) and then bring back Mewhort if he is healthy and feeling better on a cheap deal. Then you maybe able to grab some mid round talent to for depth. Good, Haeg, and Bond are all decent depth, and I think Good could play well at RT with some decent support around him.

Yet another reason to not draft a RB in the first round

Exactly. Not many teams (recently) have gotten to the SB on the strength of their ground game. It simply is an old philosophy that doesn't hold weight with statistics (actual statistics like the above article). Get a franchise QB (and protect him), get a decent pass rush and you have a chance.

  13. From the sounds of it, the Giants are committed to E. Manning. Does this mean they won't draft a QB at #2? Maybe not, but I have a feeling they might go with Barkley and look QB later rounds or potentially let it ride this year and look next year through FA or the draft. I'm still not sold on Barkley at 3, at all really. Great player, but I'm looking for players that will add more wins to our roster, and in those terms I don't think Barkley adds as much as some of the other options. I'm even warming up to the idea of trading down and getting Nelson, Fitzpatrick (at CB), or even Roquan Smith (depending on how far we trade down). If a top QB is still on the board, we could pull in a very nice return and still get an impact player with the potential of getting more chances at an impact player in round 2, 3, and 4. A lot of options, but RB at #3 is still one I'm not a fan of.

  14. I would have to say Malik Hooker. He was well on his way to one of the better rookie seasons. He is an elite talent at a position that will be vital no matter the scheme. If we end up going with a cover 3 scheme then he becomes even more important. He is one of a few truly elite prospects we have on defense, gotta have him back 100%. Lets hope he's not one that takes over a year to get back 100% after an ACL.

  15. I think he has been slowed by poor protection for our QBs, lackluster coaching, and a bit of a diva complex. If we can get him back for a decent deal, I hope we do. He has all the tools to become a good WR, I think the lack of chemistry with Luck and the continued protection issues really hurt him at times. If a healthy Andrew Luck comes back, McDaniels could use him in a lot of ways. I would go after a legit #2 in the off season though.

Reason # 1:  Did PS have a Generational QB to stop teams from stacking the box?  NO.

Reason # 2:  see Reason # 1.  Bo Jackson couldn’t run against 8 man fronts.

Reason 3:  Barkley & Mack would be huge in JM screen offense, imagine Luck with both Barkley & Mack in the backfield!

Reason 4:  Its a crap shoot on wether you hit a home run or strike out, with Barkley it’s gauranteed & no back has come out with this kind of skill set.  Did you see the one handed screen catch against the Hoosiers for 30 yds?  Athleticism

Reason 5:  Get skinny or Plow ahead for a first down?  Whose to say this 5th rd back works out, seems like playing Russian roulette vs a sure handed thing!

Reason 6:  Were not the Pats & no other team can copy what Belichek has done.  If it was that easy everyone would be trading down in the draft to take that no name scrub to turn into a star.

Reason 7:  Are you certain Chubb will have a JJ Watt impact?  1-2 sacks a game vs being 30-40% of the offense?  We’re talking #3 overall pick which you better hit a homerun.  Jags/Minny have the two best defenses, got them to the championship game but i thought the goal was SB?

Reason 8:  Risk is too high that Chubb will be that Defense MVP we’re hoping vs what Barkley can bring to this offense w/ Luck.  If It was my team the choice is clear, let’s have the top 3 offense n the league vs a top 15 defense.

First, I'm not trying to come across poorly, just trying to state a case on why I would not take Barkley. Is he awesome? Absolutely, but I'm not sure he adds more wins to our total than a player like Chubb does. We honestly won't know either way.

    1. We've had a generational QB for 20 years and we have won 1 SB. And we had a generational RB (Edge), two HOF WRs, and a boarderline HOF TE. Still one SB with the BEST QB of all time (IMO). 1 SB. Do you remember how we got that SB? Because our DEFENSE finally came to play. Ravens game we didn't score a single TD, still won because of our defense. We picked up Booger McFarland and our run defense finally came to play. Let not forget Bob Sanders came back and we shut down two top rushers (Larry Johnson and Jamal Lewis) in back to back games. Lets not pretend that there has NEVER been a RB like Barkley, we hear that every year.

    2. You're correct, no one can run against 8 man fronts...except terrible 8 man fronts like we've had here for years (up until last year).

    3. JM can use Mack alone as his Dion Lewis. Sure, could another weapon help, of course! But not at the expense of a game changer on defense.

    4. No one is guaranteed in the draft, not even Barkley. Does he have a very good makeup and projection? Yes, so do a few other prospects, but no one is a sure thing, almost every draft has shown that.

    5. I think the point was that the gap between a 1st round pass rusher vs a 5th round pass rusher is much larger than that of a 1st round RB vs a 5th round RB. There are always exceptions, but look at the top rushers over that last few years. Many of them were mid round picks (Kamara, Hunt, L. Bell, J. Howard, etc.), and most have had good defenses to help the team succeed.

    6. Reference #5, a lot of teams have found great value in mid-late rounds at RB. I don't know for sure (haven't researched it) but I would venture to say that half the starting RBs in the league are not 1st round selections.

    7. No one is certain that any player can be JJ Watt type. Just like no one is certain that Barkley will turn into Barry Sanders. Additionally, we have a great QB, I find it hard to believe we are going to take the ball out of his hands and make a rookie RB the focal point of our offense, ESPECIALLY in McDaniels offense. 30-40% is absolutely no guarantee, probably better chance it's not. If Jax or Minny had Andrew Luck, they would have won those games easily. Jags did have a top 5 RB, however, and that still wasn't enough to win. Gotta have a balance of talent, and adding Barkley over Chubb is just more imbalance for our team.

    8. I think risk is all opinion at this point. Additionally, I do not think that we are a top 15 defense without a pass rush. We aren't getting a pass rusher in FA, it has to happen HIGH in the draft. Plus we have a lack luster OL, and no matter the back (Exception of a few HOFers), no OL means no yards and an injured QB. You may have your opinions on how great Barkley is, and you very well maybe right, but I'm not convinced that Chubb isn't a better pick based on current roster construction and value of the position.

Let's take a look at the teams remaining in this year's playoffs on the defensive side of the ball:

    Minnesota: #1 ranked scoring defense

    Jacksonville: #2 ranked scoring defense

    Philly: #4 ranked scoring defense

New England: #5 ranked scoring defense

Now let's look at their top RBs:

Minnesota: Latavius Murray - acquired via free agency, originally a 6th round pick

Jacksonville: Leonard Fournette - 4th overall pick

Philly: LaGarrette Blount - acquired via free agency, originally an undrafted rookie

New England: Dion Lewis - acquired via free agency, originally a 5th round pick

I think that settles it as to whether a strong defense or a top RB is required to win.  All of the defenses are top 5 in scoring, but 3/4 RBs were originally late round picks or undrafted.

One thing is for sure after watching this weekend's games: In this league, getting to the QB is critical to getting to the SB and a RB is not. Chubb has elite agility and COD for a guy his size and has been productive in his time at NC State. If he tests well he could be an even better prospect than many believe. Looking at the offense McDaniels will bring (I paid close attention during the game for this reason), we don't need a game breaking back to be successful on offense, Mack will thrive IMO. Look at what 3 of the 4 defenses are built on in the championship games: Eagles - great rotation of pass rushers (Graham, Long, Cox, Barnett), Vikings - good pass rushers on each end (Hunter and Griffin), Jax - multiple pass rushers that can change the game WITHOUT blitzing (Ngakoue, Fowler, M. Jackson, Campbell). Like was pointed out above, a top tier running back is not needed to compete at the top levels. Sure, if we were stacked on defense like any of those 3 teams, we could do that, but all things considered somewhat equal (Pass rushers vs RB), we must improve our pass rush and OL to truly be competitive. This division will not be a cake walk any longer, very well could be the BEST division in football next year. Have to take the guy that can get to the QB, IMHO.
