  1. Wouldn't have even considered him at 9 million. The problem is, we have a ton of holes, and just because we don't think a player is worth it doesn't mean they aren't. The market dictated that and unfortunately we are losing out on a lot of proven talents because we are standing on our belief in their cost. I'm not all that happy with things so far, but can't really be that unhappy with the contracts being thrown around. Watkins was a CRAZY deal, and look at the Burton deal...8 million for a backup TE?! WTH is going on this year lol. I sure hope we can get some solid starters in FA this year, especially on the OL. Not looking good to start TBH.

  2. I'm not so sure we get any of the top ones, I would probably have to say Desir at this point. The money being spent right now is crazy, but have to admit, we aren't getting any better by holding out 77 mil either lol. Desir would give us a solid player that proved he can do the job, if we can get EJ Gaines or Melvin for under 10 mil a year, that would be a good option as well. Was hoping for 7-8 for those guys, but not sounding promising with the money being thrown around the last day or two. More worried about the OL at this point, only have so many draft picks lol.

Wow. This is the guy I wanted for the Colts. But $14m/year? Never thought he’d get that. FA is EXPENSIVE today. Guess we’re looking at mid tier players. Got to adjust the expectations.

I'm feeling the same way. I was hoping for at least one bigger name at a needed position (Norwell or Robinson were my favorites), so far that doesn't look like it's going to happen. We have a lot of holes to fill on offense and defense, I would hate for Luck to walk in with LESS help than what he had before he got hurt. If we get an OL built, can't complain on bit though.

  4. Looks a lot like last year honestly. Jags are going to have some serious cap concerns when some of these defensive guys are ready to get paid (Ramsey, Jack, etc). I didn't want to accept the fact that we are going to be at least a season or two away from being competitive again (truly competitive), but it looks like that might be the case if we can't fix our OL. Not surprised we didn't get Norwell, but definitely sucks that someone in our division did.

Butler is going to get paid...especially with what Sherman just got. I don't know how I feel about the Colts being the ones who do it.

I am more interested in a younger CB like Fuller...but I assume CHI would match any offer thrown their way.

Not sure what Ballard is going to do...he has to sign at least one CB. Sean Smith could be a good stop gap ; )

Sean Smith appears to be heading to jail for a year. I would kick the tires on Fuller though, definitely worth a look there.

  6. I really don’t care for the idea of moving all the way down to later in the first. The only way I would be even remotely ok with it would be if we got their first 4 picks this year and their first next year. That might give us some leverage to move pick 21 and another pick or two to get close to the top 10 for a premier player. I know we get a lot of picks, but you are at the mercy of the board falling just right for you, it’s a pretty big gamble. After Chubb their is no real good edge rusher (Davenport has some potential put still risky). If you trade that pick you are pretty much saying we aren’t fixing the pass rush this year other than some kind of trade. That’s a hard pill to swallow.

  7. No doubt the guy maybe the most physically gifted player we have on the team. Look at a Derwin James...TJ Green is the same size and more athletic. The big difference is TJ doesn't have much football IQ that we've seen. I'm a big believer in developing elite athletes if they are coachable (look at the Jimmy Grahams of the world). If TJ really wants it, he's going to have a fresh start this off season to prove he belongs. If he doesn't, he won't make it out of camp IMO. Kid can definitely fly and he has some impressive measurables, but he has to put it together this year. I think he could be a dog on defense (see ball, go get ball). However, he's going to have to clean up a lot in his game to make that work as well (pursuit angles, hitting the RIGHT team, etc). I hope he can make the jump, he was raw coming out and was given some unfair expectations by most people because he was thrown to the fire. I don't think he's nearly as bad as some people act like here, but he is definitely a player that needs big improvement to make at least SOME area a strength in his game (not just his athleticism). IF (big IF) he can put it together, he is the type of athlete that all teams look for. Here's to hoping he does big things this off season and listens to a new voice!

  8. I’ve had these thoughts as well. Some even think Edmunds could turn into a very good pass rusher as well. Chubb does fit the need better and has a higher floor (IMO), however, I do think Edmunds has more potential for a truly elite talent. Chubb will be solid and very consistent, at the very least a very good run stopping DE with some pass rush upside. I would be happy with these five guys (in no particular order): Nelson, Chubb, Barkley, Edmunds, or Fitzpatrick. Any of those are added to the team and I think we got a great player. Best case scenario is that we get Chubb at 3 and somehow Vander Esch falls to us in the 2nd (unlikely)

They have to fix the offensive line first.   Nothing else matters if they cannot do that.  Luck must be protected.   We have seen what a season looks like without him.

Some still don't quite get that point, or at least show no urgency to fix the issue. I agree, with no Luck we aren't doing that hot for at least a few years. We need him back and playing well to truly compete, and we will need an Oline to ensure he stays that way. We won with him even when we couldn't protect him, and our division is much better than it has been. While I get we have some other needs, this has to be a priority. I would be ecstatic with Nelson or Chubb at number 3.

When you're 6'6" and 345 and you have a history of playing every game then suddenly fir two straight years you struggle to play HALF the games that's a HUGE red flag.

Feet...   ankle...   back....     they typically don't get better..

So we're ready to move in from Mewhirt due to his injuries but we're ready to give up a 6 and pay big money for an expensive right tackle?

    Not me....

I'm not sure anyone is willing to move on from Mewhort. I actually think we should resign him for the same reasons I think we should trade a 6th for Glenn: They are both talented lineman that, when healthy, could greatly improve our offense. The big thing is, you have to make sure to have solid depth behind them to protect yourself from being in big trouble if they get hurt. This has been the issue on our Oline for a while, Mewhort gets hurt and we can't compensate with good depth behind him. I would take a flier on both and make sure we can get out of the situation if things don't work out (clauses in contracts, etc). If they do come back healthy, you're talking about a big improvement across our weakest area. Add in a FA guard or Nelson in the draft and you could have a strength in an area that was a weakness.

  11. For the money it sounds like Moncrief wants, I'll go after the proven Robinson all day. I would pay him what TY is making potentially to get him here. Barring health, he is exactly the player we need opposite TY. This is a better fit than Landry and he's proven to be a better WR than moncrief. He IS what many were hoping Moncrief would be. I would be aggressive going after him as long as his medicals come back alright. Many people come back from ACLs better than ever now days, I would definitely be willing to pay him.

  12. For a 6th rounder and the performance clause supposedly in his contract, I would do this in a heartbeat. If he continues to get hurt and under perform you cut him lose and you lost a 6th rounder. We blew a 4th on a guy that didn't even make our week one roster last year. It's a low risk high reward (relatively) situation. I would do it if anything just to kick the tires. I would still have a good plan to fill in for him in that case, much like resigning Mewhort.

  13. I was looking through market values for a few players and I came across Moncrief and Mewhort. Now I'm more of a draft guy, but they were projecting 10 mil a year for Moncrief and 11 million a year for Mewhort?! Am I missing something here, I'm not one to research that stuff all that much, but that looks way out of line compared to Norwell (12 million a year), etc. Am I missing something or reading it wrong?

I disagree. The combine is very important, as it proves to be every year.

We are in the home stretch now though. We have free agency, team needs going into the draft, and it will be here before we know it.

I'm in the camp that the combine didn't do much but validate what people already thought of Barkley. Actually kinda surprised because I kept hearing he would run in the 4.3 range (I know he was close, but wasn't there). He's an absolute freak of an athlete no doubt, but I think most people already know that (especially anyone scouting these guys). The combine helped others (Chubb, Edmunds) more than it did Barkley. If people didn't know or hear what Barkley was going to do, then they weren't paying enough attention. I would still classify Nelson as the best player in the draft and the "safest" pick. After Chubb's performance (outside of a pedestrian 3 cone), it validated that he should be the pick IMO. If we trade back, then I would look for Nelson, Edmunds, and maybe Fitzpatrick. FA will be key, we shall see how it goes! If we get any of those 5, I'm very happy as a fan!

  16. If Chubb and Barkley are both gone you obviously have to look to trade back. Should have some leverage with all the QBs on the board. Either way, I think you have a few options in Nelson first and then looking at Edmunds and maybe even Fitzpatrick (depending on how he looks today). Nelson is still the most "can't miss" prospect in the draft, someone even said "gold jacket" material and he fits our biggest need. Edmunds had a great combine and looked good in drills. He could become a great pass rusher as well, at the very least he is a monster ILB that can cover RBs and TEs. Compare his combine to Reddick and don't be surprised if he's close to that 6-8 range overall at his size. We haven't seen what Fitzpatrick can do, but if he performs well at the combine he could be in play as a CB for us. That would give us a very good young secondary as a strength. All depends on FA as well. Any of those five players (Chubb, Barkley, Nelson, Edmunds, Fitzpatrick) will make a huge impact on our team next year, and that's what I'm looking for this draft, a true game changer.

Watching the combine today made me a believer in Chubb. I even changed my avatar to him to show my support.

I'll admit, I was high on him because of his tape, but I didn't see him coming out and doing what he did. I was saying if he ran in the 4.75 range that would be awesome, and he beat that by a tenth plus his other testing looked dang good. The combine has just made me believe we have multiple good options in the top 10. Chubb, Barkley, Edmunds, Nelson, and even Roquan Smith (ran well).

Listen. get a hold of yourself here. Barkley ran a 4.4 at 233 pounds! Not only that, that 40 doesn't even represent what makes him special --- that is, is ability to make guys miss. He's more than fast, he's SUPER quick and has the best lateral cutting ability we've seen in YEARS. you're getting too hung up on not running 4.3.

how many long TDs did the guy have?

he catches the ball, he blocks, and he's a hell of a runner.

This was the big push about him, that's why it's somewhat significant to the argument of Barkley vs. Chubb. Barkley ran great, still freakish, but Chubb was equally (if not more) impressive when many said he would run slow and wasn't athletic. I don't think anyone is saying Barkley isn't special, I think it's more that it was confirmed that Chubb is just as special in the impact that can be made on a team.

Who called Chubb slow? He ran a 4.6 and he's 270 pounds. That's incredible.

I can think a few people said he wasn't an elite athlete. Hell, I didn't even think he would be THIS good. 4.65 and 36" vert at 269...that's elite. Bosa ran 4.88 or something like that. Over 2 tenths quicker on the 40 and still has the great hands and speed to power transfer. He only helped himself today, and confirmed what I had been thinking in taking Chubb over Barkley or anyone else at 3 for sure.

  20. This just makes me think he's the guy at 3 even more if we stay put. He just validated what you see on tape. He has good get off and has always had great hands (compared to Bosa and Barnett), this is definitely helpful for his stock. I think it's even more impressive than the 4.4 that Barkley ran (everyone was saying he was a 4.3 guy)

  21. If we can get him for a mid round pick (4-5th) I would be alright with it. The more I look, the more I'm just not that impressed with him. He can't get open on the outside (when Ballard was asked about what kind of WRs he was looking for he said "the kind that can get open"). Sure, he's very good in the slot, but 15 million for a slot guy when we already have a very good slot guy on the team? I would rather throw the money at Robinson and keep our picks IMO.
