Hold your horses. Ballard had a great offseason on paper, but let's see what happens on the field.

You sound like Ballard when he said, "Now hold your horses, that's a HoF'er we're talking about." (About Malik Hooker compared to Ed Reed)

  2. This film says it all. Against a better team, he made huge plays, but they had 3 new dbs, so that attributed for their loss. Basham has great quickness and a high motor, love this guy. Ballard did not overlook anyone.

Even went into coverage on one play, not too bad. Watch this film and form your own opinion on him. I like the ceiling of Ballard's picks.

2 years and you name 2 games. He had 0 interceptions, 1 forced fumble and 5 passes defended last year.   You have to look at the whole and not pick the one thing that supports your argument and then ignore the rest.

Geathers is average at worst, good starter at best. We have no one else that can step in over him, so he's starting 99 times out of 100.

Ok guys just figured I'd give you guys some info. I'm actually a Dolphins fan, and I always enjoy when people give info on our board, so I will drop some here.

I am from Malik's hometown, I actually teach in George Washington the school that was mentioned in one of the articles I read in one of your papers. The kid that you guys are getting is an absolutely outstanding person. His mother raised a great kid. This is a true story: When he was in the fifth grade I started my first year teaching in George Washington. One day I was at my father's house for Sunday dinner and I told my father and brother he would be the best athelete to ever come out of our town. They thought I was crazy that I would say that about a 10 year old kid, and I don't want to sound like I am tooting my own horn, but it didn't take an NFL scout to see it. He has always been an unbelievable athelete. There are a lot of YouTube videos of him playing highschool basketball that you can go watch and see for yourself. He made ESPN top 10 plays twice in highschool for crazy dunks. Our hometown basketball team is always very good, but Malik lead our team to an undefeated season and state title his senior year. There were some other division 1 football players on that team that were solid, but Malik was the guy without question. Saying that he didn't play football until his junior year isn't exactly true, he played in grade school and it was almost funny watching how much better than everyone else he was. His rise from his senior year was crazy. It all seemed to start when he was on ESPN top plays the first time. He did go to a football camp in Alabama before his senior year in football and basically the consensus was that he was the best player in a camp of stars. There are some YouTube videos of that too, one where he made a crazy 1 handed catch. When he went to Ohio State I knew if he got his shot he would be an NFL player for sure. His redshirt year at OSU he played Amari Cooper on the scout team in practice leading up to the Championship game. That alone should tell you something. Then when he finally got his shot at OSU he exploded from that first game with the crazy tipped int. I can honestly tell you than neither me or any of my friends were surprised, we knew he was that good. I honestly was disappointed he did not get a chance to work out at the combine, he would have dominated those drills. The Colts are my girls team so I follow them a little bit, and no slight to the team, but I guarantee Malik is now the best athelete you have on the team. All that stuff is great, but the person that you got is the best part. Like I said his mother did an awesome job raising him, she should be really proud. When you see him at Children's Hospital on draft day, that is not an act, that is who he and his family are. They are just genuinely very good people. His rise from that dunk, to osu, now to you guys is incredible, and I truly believe he has a long way to go before he hits his ceiling. Those of you who didn't like the pick, I guarantee he is going to change your mind. You guys got a great player!

Thank you for sharing this. That alone, the fact you created a Colts Forum account just to tell us this, goes to show the impact he has on people. Ballard really did strike titanium in a gold mine.

Mike Adam's was a stop gap.

Bethea was good,  but its arguable to say his best years were when sanders was on the team.

And I'm sorry,  who's Clayton Geathers? Is he on our team? Cause if so, his presence is not felt and his performance leaves something to be desired.

Geathers sealed the Chargers game and the 2nd Titans game, so yes his presence is definitely felt. He just has injury issues, similar to another great hard hitting safety we had some time ago.

  6. We got a top 5 player at 15. Not much else to say considering that is the steal of the first round (maybe Foster, but he has ? marks about his character and the failed drug test). Yesterday was a great day to be a Colts fan. Let's see what Ballard does today. I'm hoping for McMillan, King, Awuzie, or Willis for the 2nd.

Adams was considered the best safety mostly due to a higher ceiling.  Hooker though from my understanding is more polished and still a pretty good safety.

Personally I prefer to get the more polished players in round one.  Drafting for ceiling IMO is folly.

Ok, my bad, I thought Hooker was the #1 safety. Still, considering he's 21 and he only started one year and got 7 INTs (3 for a pick6(and should've been 4, but block in the back penalty took it back)) I think with NFL level coaching and practice, and Luck as the guy he tries to defend against, he will come along nicely.

I don't know.  My point was that its not like Humphrey is still on the board.  He was the very next pick, so I assume the grades were fairly close.

Its not like Hooker was number 7 player and fell due to an act of God.  He fell because other GMs passed on him in favor of other players, so I assume Humphrey and Hooker are ranked fairly closely.

Teams passed on Hooker because they all started panicking once the early offensive haul began. The Bears might've actually helped us out a lot by trading up for a QB. It started the rush, and we quietly took the best safety in this years draft without moving from 15. I would say that is a successful round 1.

So happy. Ballard was just talking about how important it is to get turnovers and there you go.

This should be good for Luck too, having to go against that kind of playmaking ability in practice.

And good for Hooker, having to defend passes thrown by Andrew Luck

Hope we give him time to learn before we throw him out there..

...He does not sound like a guy who can start this season...

On the contrary, he can definitely start. His ability to move sideline to sideline is better than any I've ever seen. He almost looks slow when he runs, but the ground he actually covers is insane. He isn't constantly taking bad angles, but it's there so it needs to be polished. He will be great, I'm very excited to see him in preseason.

    Good one.

For me, the biggest downside I see with Hooker (and I like the pick) is durability.   He's had some shoulder and hip issues.   Nothing too serious I hope.

His angles are God awful, but coachable. If he perfects that, he becomes a serious downhill tackling threat

  12. You're the type of person that flies a kite during a thunderstorm

I think my eyes are going to bleed after what I just read. Pls help these people. We need some professional psychologists to help those in need (aka people who are mad about drafting Hooker).  If you know any, start a thread and guide these people to the nearest one, or a ditch for them to jump into. Thank you for your consideration.

  13. The toxin and acidity level on this forum rn is almost below 1 on the pH scale. I can't stand the hate for this pick. Tackling is COACHABLE, instinct is not. This guy was a top 5 talent and people are mad when they knew from day 1 Ballard was picking BPA. I'm going to bed to avoid any further rising in my blood pressure from reading "we missed on allen and foster".
