  1. Good assessment of the that list except for the fact that Pennington while available from a contract point of view, he isn't able to play at this point. Torn ACL in the off season playing basketball.

    Good call. I'll update it.

So the only person available on the list to sign and get acclimated with the team is likely Culpepper.

  2. Something didn't make sense, so I checked it out.

Jon Kitna: #2 QB with the Cowboys. Had to play last year, did pretty well. Unlikely to be released.

    Daunte Culpepper: Free Agent

Brady Quinn: #2 QB for the Broncos, seems to have passed Tebow. Unlikely to be released.

Marc Bulger: Turned down many offers and retired.

Shaun Hill: #2 QB for the Lions. Might be released, maybe. Would have to start without the benefit of even preseason if it came to it.

Charlie Whitehurst: #2 in Seattle, just acquired last season for a 3rd rounder and swapping 2nd rounders with the Chargers. Not likely to be released.

Trent Edwards: #2 on the Raiders. Not likely to be released.

Chad Pennington: Tore his ACL playing basketball in the offseason, not ready to play. Has also underwent 4 shoulder surgeries. Safe to question how much he has left.

I'm not sure most of these guys would be better than Painter even if they are released, as they'd likely be cut at the end of the preseason, giving them only very little time to get acclimated with the system. It's an odd list of mostly unavailable QBs.

J.T. O'Sullivan would be worth it, if only to extend his "Most NFL teams played for" record to 12.

While I do want a different backup, I don't think there is a chance Peyton won't play. It's just not in his nature. Unless he's missing a leg, he'll play.

  3. I like him just because I think he's smart enough to pick our offense in two weeks. I would say he is the last of my choices of the three I listed. Sorgi (if healthy) is my first choice, then Collins, and then Pennington.

I mean he's the last on the poll. He's my second option, behind the Sorginator.

  4. It's a draft for guys who, for one reason or another, can not continue to play college football. Bad grades, got kicked out of school, are Terrelle Pryor, etc. They are then basically auctioned off. On the day of the draft, teams submit the name of the player they want and the pick they are willing to give up for him. The team who gives up the highest pick gets the player, or, in the case of two picks in the same round, the team with the higher pick in last years draft gets the player. The pick given up for the player is then forfeited in next years draft. Any player who is not drafted is treated like a normal UDFA.

  5. If and that's a big "If" we need a veteran QB to step in for Peyton the first game of two why not go after Carson Palmer? Better than Painter and Orlovsky.. I suspect 18 will be ready for game 1

Because Palmer would have to be a trade, which the Bengals won't do. If he's released, a team with higher priority would probably pick him up on waivers. I don't think this is the situation he's looking for.

  6. i think the colts should take a lok. he is 6'7 250 from unc and plays de if he is available in the fourth round we should consider him. he would of been a 1st or 2nd rounder if he were not suspended and also we will be looking to replace freeney soon. also hughes seems to be a bust and is a waste of money and a roster spot so rather than pryor we should look at him in the supplemental draft. i didnt see any big dt or i would of said to look at them. what do u guys think

Where do you get the idea that McAdoo was heading to the first or second round? He hasn't even started a game in college yet, and first rounders aren't made of awesome spring games (like McAdoo had). He's showed potential, but he's never put it together. If his spring game is any indication, he could be a really good player, but so many players are spring scrimmage champs that never become that guy.

  7. I'd really like to at least spin Sorgi's tires to see if anything is there. The offense hasn't changed too dramatically, and I highly doubt he could lose any of the football smarts that made him (at least by appearances) handy to Peyton on the sideline.

There is zero harm in bringing him in, and realistically he's the only available guy who has the benefit of knowing the offense.

  8. I think they would just find another guy on the roster woh can kick to get them threw an end of the game if he got hurt, I mean I have been a Colts fan for 20 years now and I have never seen a Colts kicker or punter get hurt in the middle of a game before. Yes I know it has happened to other teams but I don't think the Colts are going to carry a back up kicker that they don't use all year just because of that.

Either way we aren't going to cut AV so this is something we wont have to worry about for a few years.

If I recall, Adam got hurt in 2006 and Hunter had to boot an XP in one game, and then the team brought in Martin Gramatica.

  9. Just because it costs $100,000 doesnt mean its worth $100,000.. Im not advocating paying them to play.. But some of the rules are stupid. The kids at OSU sold rings that were given to them.. So basically they cant even have a garage sale (not that that is how they sold them) seems pretty dumb...

That's a weak argument. They can't sell things that were earned through football while they are still active in NCAA sports. The argument that they can't have a garage sale is baseless, and is in fact incorrect. The NCAA only holds sway over things the kids gained during their tenure as NCAA athletes. At least as far as selling goods goes. They also can't sell autographs and they can't receive goods for free. Can they sell a TV the own, or a laptop? Of course, as the NCAA has no legal domain there.

Should they be allowed to sell their rings? I think so. Even their jerseys if they own them (some universities keep them.) Nonetheless, I'm against breaking stupid rules, as it's counter-productive and only hurts your argument.

  10. I loathe people who break rules and shrug it off because they disagree with the rules. When there are rules in place, you follow them. If you don't like them, rally against them and make your case heard. Fight to change the rule. The fact is that IF (and I'm not willing to say it did or didn't happen yet) there is a booster paying players, then Miami has an unfair advantage recruiting players if that reputation got around. I know, some other places are likely doing it too, but that's a stupid argument. A bunch of players getting paid from several schools is still against the rules. If players don't think a free education is fair enough pay, they can pass it up. It's not like they don't know they won't get paid.

At that, Miami deserves a fair investigation before people jump the gun.

  11. The Pats don't have 2 blocking TEs. Hernandez is about as good of an inline blocker as Clark or most any other receiving TE. He's decent at the second level, but he's no inline blocker. Gronkowski is the do-it-all with both solid skills as a receiver and blocker, which is why he got more playing time.

  12. What i don't get is when i broke my wrist(growth plate) i was out of a cast in 4 months. Clark broke his wrist back in October and when he reported to camp he was wearing a splint. Was that for precautionary reasons?

Back to the topic: Whoever would make Peyton happier but i think i would want Moss. 6'4'' and has speed.

I'll look for the article, but Clark had a very awkward injury. Word is that the brace will stay on all season.

    EDIT: Here

  13. Either Mace or Jones would be worth a look in the 7th round. Keep them on the practice squad for a couple of years.

What happens if they are not drafted can any team sign them as an UDFA? If the answer to that is yes, then no, there is not anyone worth losing a draft pick.

Yes, the supplemental is treated like the normal draft in terms of eligibility to be signed.
