I will say this.... That last drive that ate up

7 mins and ended with a fg by Gay to put the Colts up by seven was textbook! It led to points but MORE importantly it only left about a minute of game time for the Titans to work with. It reminded me of that game against Philly with Shane as oc in which we led only to have the Eagles go on a long time consuming drive that ended with Jalen running up the gut for a game winning td that left almost no time on the clock.

I wanted him to kick the FG at the end of the first half. He called a great play, Granson got held by the defender and it wasn't called, and Minshew could have given him a better pass. Still, with no timeouts, the clock so low, and deep in the red zone, you're basically giving the team one shot to score a TD. Take the points, IMO.

I also think it was a no-brainer to kick at the end of the game. Getting a first would have ended the game, but the FG made it a seven point game. The Titans don't have a great QB, they're average offensively, and our defense was playing well. Ironically, if we had kicked the FG in the first half, maybe we're already up by 7, and now it makes more sense to think about going for it.

But I like the fake outs, sprint out of the huddle, force timeouts, etc. We're probably going to get a defender to jump offsides, or catch a team in a bad alignment. Just as long as we don't force it.

I see your point about leaving no room for error right before halftime but I think the AR injury played a part in the decision by trying to put as much distance between the two teams. I was just in awe of the actual playcall that seemed to catch the Titans off guard. Like you said he took the fg at the end of the game which I too thought was a no brainer.

His biggest task going forward is putting Richardson in good situations that will limit him getting hit. Maybe no more designed runs unless Richardson sees a great opportunity for it pre-snap.

I think moving forward Shane will adjust on the designed runs. He has a history of making adjustments. I think Ballard nailed this hire. Shane giving Sporano the o-line coaching job is already paying dividends. This team is building a tough no nonsense culture. That "be patient and trust the process" has been replaced with we're going to play hard and you're going to have to beat us till the game is over!

Seems like Franklin has taken over as the vocal leader of the group. Dude is a beast! Seeing a subdued Leonard is a little bit of a downer for me. I miss his passion and fire along with his elite playmaking abilities. Hopefully he has the patience post op to get back to that place without losing confidence in himself. I know it's early but our front seven seems legit so far.

stafford is fourth in passing yards just behind herbert, he is dangerous deep

That's the key... Matt can still torch you passing if you allow him to just sit comfortably in the pocket. Make him skittish EARLY and often. If that happens the Colts win 28 - 17.

Take away Matt Gay's history setting performance (which was awesome) they were a mixed bag allowing another ALMOST late game turning long punt return like in the Jags game. I know it's early but it's something to keep an eye on. Also the decision late in the game by our returner to call for a fair catch then allow the ball to bounce nearly 15 yds in which the Ravens were able to down the ball around the 2 yd line putting the offense in a bad spot that eventually led to a safety. Bubba's loss as stc is showing early but hopefully the Colts can button these fundamental things up.

Ringo seemed to punt better today so that's promising coming off the Achilles tear from last season because he looked shakey in training camp and in the home opener against the Jags. Ringo also showed progress last week in Houston so I think he'll be fine moving forward. Again great team win as we sit ALONE atop the division!!! Go Colts.

A lot. Dudes a legit passer.

I agree. I wanted Stroud first (better passer) and Richardson second. My point was that MOST d coordinators would have feasted today and came after the rookie big time with a lot of different looks combined with multiple blitz packages ESPECIALLY if he was playing behind a third string makeshift o-line. Gus has been in the league long enough to be capable of mixing in some press man against a ROOKIE.

“The quicker that Shane realizes that he is void of skillset players like he had with the Eagles and Chargers…”

    Huh?    What the….???

Why do you think he doesn’t know that?   Spoiler alert!!   He knew that the day the Colts hired him back in February.   It’s now September.   He’s been coaching the team for 7 months.   Steichen knows what he has and doesn’t have.

Sorry, but that was head scratching…..

Not really. Let me start by saying I believe that Shane is a young upper tier type offensive mind that can develop young qbs by catering an offense to their skillset so my take was not a knock on him. In fact I was pleased in what I saw OVERALL from the team as I stated in my post. What I meant by the Shane comment was that I think he's simply believes too much in some of his offensive players that he has ON HAND by asking them to do things that they are incapable of doing. I'm quite sure that will change moving forward as Shane continues to learn his player's strengths and weaknesses against opposing defenses.

Think about this. In Philly that short yardage bunch package on 2 yds or less mostly on 4th downs was so successful that there was some talk about banning the play in which the backfield helped push the qb. In Shane's mind I'm sure he's thinking that this HIGHLY paid line SHOULD be able to get a 1 yd push. Nope! In fact this o-line has been subpar for awhile now. NCF do you think back in February when Shane was hired that he envisioned a less than mediocre running back by committee would be his option? I'm sure once the decision was made to take AR that Shane had visions of him being PAIRED with one of the most ELITE backs in all of football but money has derailed all that. By most accounts JT is fine. I don't know if that's true or not but the whole "ankle not healed yet" is a reported ploy. One way or the other something needs to get resolved with the JT situation. Now you have a big armed raw rookie qb behind a shakey o-line, with an almost non rushing attack in support to keep the defense honest and no deep threat at receiver to speak of because I don't believe Pierce is the answer. Again just MY take...
