Not surprising, but pretty incredible that we're dead last on both offense and defense.
-
The golden rule is that receivers normally take at least 3 years to develop, so he deserves the benefit of the doubt until then, but he really does need to step it up soon.
-
I'm worried about Tolzien. He didn't show much in the preseason.
-
It's not happening, but I'd rather see Morris. Think he gives the Colts a little more life and juice at the position. At the very least, his ability to run gives the Colts a different dimension.
-
Only concern I have is that a lot off Tolzien's throws sailed high in the preseason. As we saw with Curtis Painter, if a backup quarterback can't complete routine throws and move the chains, you have no shot.
Not saying Tolzien is Painter, but he was pretty "meh" in the preseason. Colts will obviously be relying a lot on Frank Gore and the ground game.

Williams was already on the roster because Davis (and Robinson) were hurt. With Robinson healthy, there isn't any reason to have an extra corner unless Vontae isn't healthy.
Just my speculation. Who knows.
Wouldn't surprise me though if the Colts use Darius Butler at safety some with Clayton Geathers out. That could keep the need for having another CB on the roster.

There's something to be said for a 300 man throwing his entire weight into you, but it seems like the Lucas Oil field has been conducive to speed instead of padding--likely because we were playing to Peyton Manning's prolific passing attack and our speedy pass rushers Mathis and Freeney.
The fact that it was rated the best surface 5 years ago doesn't necessarily do it for me either because I'm sure since then, there are improved surfaces that have been developed. That seems like a long time ago technology wise.
There's a good chance Luck would've been concussed regardless, but I don't think the Lucas Oil turf did him any favors either...sort of like when you miss a shot, but there's also a tight rim.
-
We aren't bad enough to get a Top 5 draft pick anymore, so we might as well go for the playoffs.
-
I'd go Clayton Geathers with Walden 2nd and Vontae Davis 3rd.
-
I'd rather play Stephen Morris. Wait, I might rather play Stephen Morris over Tolzien regardless.
-
We were an underdog to win this game even with Luck. Aside from Oakland, this is probably one of the games where if we had to lose Luck, this is our best bet. Would rather have him for Texans, Jets, and Jags--games that are must wins.
-
I think there could be some truth to it. A number of players have been concussed on it: http://horseshoeheroes.com/2016/11/22/is-lucas-oil-turf-partially-to-blame-for-andrew-lucks-concussion/

I honestly don't want Adams @ safety lol I like the speed and reaction of butler @ safety
Problem is with Robinson out, we'll likely need Butler more at slot than safety to pair with Vontae Davis and Rashaan Melvin as our other CB's--whoever they are, are shaky. Playing Adams a lot also allows us to use Geathers more as a hybrid linebacker in obvious passing downs.
Adams lack of speed hurts us at times, but he's also a very smart player and normally doesn't make many mistakes.

We just started drafting on defense like last year 2015, so I think that's a bigger part of the puzzle. Think that's got something to do with it don't ya think?
This is also true, but certainly whiffing on defensive players like Bjoern Werner and D'Joun Smith in the early rounds of drafts hasn't helped either.
-
If you hit on star players, no one's going to count all your misses. Problem is, Colts have found some solid guys like Moncrief, Mewhort, and Henry Anderson, etc. but no real stars since 2012. And I don't want to hear that guys weren't there... look at Tryann Mathieu, he was a 3rd round pick.

But why have we been using McNary? He is bad.. I dont think Edwin really played vs the Packers.
Edwin played a lot against Chiefs, but hardly played two weeks ago with Geathers at LB and in our passing personnel packages. He's a huge upgrade to either McNary or Morrison and should play more---adds a lot of speed and athleticism.
-
Take the prospect that in 3 years is going to be the best player. Yeah, role players who can contribute are helpful, but this is still a star driven league. Colts need to assemble most talent, whether they have the luxury or not--assuming they actually play a position of need like offensive tackle clearly still is.
-
It's our record. If we were better, he'd definitely be in the discussion.
-
I'm thinking we should keep Geathers at LB (with a hint of Edwin Jackson) and play Adams and Green at safety for this one.
-
I think it's too early to call Clark a bust. He's definitely a project, but the Colts and fans knew that going in.
Now, I'm not saying he won't be a bust, but he still deserves the benefit of the doubt. Someone brought up Humphries for the Cardinals--which is a great point, who didn't even play in a game last season.
If it's this time next season, and Clark is still frequently a healthy scratch, then I'll be really worried but I think a player deserves at least more than a season to prove they aren't a bust.

Thomas was trash with the Dolphins, but Philbin does have experience with him.
-
I like him as a hybrid LB on passing downs, but I don't know if he needs to play linebacker full-time.
-
He's at least worth brining in for a workout. Turbin's been rock solid as the 3rd down RB, but C-Mike's always been talented.

Darius Butler: Best Coverage Rating in NFL

When he's played the slot, he's been pretty solid. It's only when he's had to play outside due to injuries (last year's Bills game rings a bell) that he's gotten burned.
