Lol man, some of you guys get me. It’s like if you had it your way there’d be no discussion whatsoever, safe space only.

Sometimes I like to make random comments I will give you that. Sorry for the remark!

Maybe you should actually read and pay attention to the discussion going on.

Or not you can stay ignorant for all I care we just won't take anything that you say seriously.

We aren't talking about giving up on a draft class nor saying we need to be dominate.  We are saying there was clear and away better ways to draft and that is a huge red flag with a GM that says his main source for talent is draft.  Take you head out of wherever you have it and learn to think objectively instead of snarky nonsense responses.

Wow calling me ignorant and then claiming your drafting methods are better...laughable and ignorant in itself!!

Darnold may have a higher ceiling potential, but is nowhere near the QB that Josh McCown is right now.   JM is showing him how to be a pro, from film study, to Q&A in meetings, to game plan install, towork ethic.  Sam will watch and learn without Bridgewater in the mix, unless the wheels fall off the Jets ‘plane’.

Jets said Darnold starts game 1 against the Lions. Not going to argue on JM vs Darnold. Just stating the the rookie is going to start.

Well, hopefully Chris Ballard will read this Forum before drafting next year so he won't whiff on any picks and we get all future pro bowlers in our draft.

3 pre-season games and everyone is giving up on our draft class already.

Building though the draft takes time and some players don't reach their potential for 2-3 years.

Patience is the key.  I'm no expert and don't pretend to be...I trust that Ballard and our scouts are doing what they are getting paid to do.  If they fail, we'll find out and Irsay will go hire a different GM.

I wonder if all these great minds gave up on Peyton Manning after his first 3 preseason games. I mean his first real game he threw 3 picks and had a completion percentage of 56.  Man we should have benched him or fired Polian right?

Good lord people you expect the roster to be dominate after 2 drafts with a new GM and scheme in place now.

ive only been a colts fan since 2003 so i would like to pose a question to the die heart veterans of the horse shoe. Now i do of course know that Peyton Manning had an amazing career here in Indy and successfully lead the colts to multiple playoff appearances just like Andrew Luck who is our current QB. However besides those two did any other QB have a great year with Indy and were we in the playoffs before Manning and Luck?

Captain Comeback...Jim Harbaugh had a solid year here and almost had an amazing playoff run but we lost to the Steelers.

He had 4 years here but they weren't all great.

  6. Stephen Morris comes to mind here...practice was not the best for him but games he looked pretty decent (preseason games that is).

For what it's worth I see Wilson being a starter at some point this year. He needs to prove himself to the coaches and shine a little more than everyone else. I do like him and Desir with Hairston playing nickel.

No , i've watched them, and not seen Sheard at all. No sacks, no tackles this week...and i never saw a hurry from him either.

Not worried about either. He does very well at containment and pushing the play away from him. He has had pressure. In a regular game where he plays a good amount of snaps will be a little different than a few snaps in a preseason game during 1 quarter.

We have not seen Jabaal Sheard ,whom many thought would 'blow up' in this new style.  Yet we are getting plays from those many had written off.

Apparently you have missed the games so far. Sheard has played pretty well and has got pressure to push the pocket towards others. He causes hurries and did last night as well. He also has great containment for his edge. Not sure if the few snaps he gets in the PRESEASON you think he should already have 5 sacks or something?

  9. No thanks. 15m for a RB plus having a QB at 27.5 and Hilton at 15 next year.  Nearly 60 mil in 3 players (key spots but can do with other options at RB)...no thanks. That's like roughly 30% of the cap for next year.

Teams do reach all the time.  But Brissett is young and has proven he can play and start.  That's a huge difference from a rookie and not a top rated one at that.  As long as Luck stays healthy I think Ballard is going to get more than one offer he can't refuse.  He can help us acquire a high round pick and accelerate the rebuild.  I don't see him waiting two years to move him.  Besides the college QB market in two years will probably be stronger and Brissett will be two years older.   You move him when we have the advantage and that will be after the current season.

I agree with you. They do not reach all the time, and history has shown that each year you have a hand full of QB's that move up the board who then become the guy that the few QB hungry teams look at. We are not talking half the league here. Now I will say like I told NCF if the trade is there I am not against it I just do not see it happening.

Also, your last comment is what helps my argument. Each year the young QB's coming into the league are there for the taking. Brissett would be solid to move now. After sitting a whole year teams will be looking but still have the chance of a young guy. Plus, the young guy just like Brissett is a risk. One year of experience is not making Brissett a sure thing by any means after a trade or FA contract...let's look at the many back-ups that help this point.

So...   you’d rather have one more year of Brissett and then lose him for NOTHING when his contract is up in 2020 than trade Jacoby and get a 3 or a 4 to build with?

Not me.   I’ll take the pick to buikd for the future.   An easy call for me.

See the problem here is you are not Ballard. I would gladly take a high pick for him. Ballard even mentioned he passed on this very thing already. The key market for Brissett is right now. Again, next year if a great offer is there ok. I am just saying I do not see it happening.

I think Smith will hold the fort until Good is ready.  Just like last year I think Good's going to be the starter unless injuries force him to to the sideline.

I agree and hope Smith can produce and become very solid for us. Good just needs to stay healthy like all of our linemen.

Because, next year,  Brissett will have more value to the Colts in a trade than he will as a backup.

If we don't trade him by the end of the 2019 draft,  then we're committed to him and we have a good chance to lose him in 2020.     He'll want to go somewhere we has a shot to start.    And unless Luck gets hurt AGAIN,   he's got no shot to start in Indy.

So, we can trade Brissett,  get a decent pick,   and sign a veteran QB as his replacement in Free Agency.

The long shot scenario...   is that Brissett is willing to sign long-term as Luck's back-up at good back-up money,   and maybe we trade Jacoby somewhere down the road.    I think that's possible,   but not very likely.

I would agree to disagree honestly. We have an easy contract with him. If a team approaches and offers something very good then yes all options would be open. We also have a good backup that Ballard has mentioned he loves having. If Luck stays healthy this year and Brissett does not play at all then the value for him actually drops a little. Out of sigh out of mind. A team could still see some potential but teams like the Jets are experiencing this right now with a Teddy Bridgewater. No true value because teams got their guys. The draft will still produce guys that the few teams in need will go after. Is there a potential for trade yes, this is likely with a lot of teams and players but with this I see us riding it out honestly. If he leaves in FA then hopefully it adds back a comp pick in the  long run.

With only two QB's listed in McShay's top 32 and none being a top 15 pick I think Brissett's value will soar.  As long as Luck get's through the season okay I can see Ballard trading Brissett and we sign another veteran QB to be the backup.  I think more than one team is going to want him and Ballard will score a high round pick in return.

QB's move up and down the board as the year goes on.  Happens every year. Teams always reach on potential as well. Brissett is a solid QB in my eyes but one key thing is after sitting a whole year (hopefully) teams will not place a high value on him. If we trade him we are not going to get some high pick.  Plus I see Ballard keeping him since he will still be under an easy to manage contract.

  15. With this being so early things will obviously change a lot. Looking at everything now thought I would say both d-line and o-line look like a very strong area. Should be some strong LB's as well. Secondary looks a little weak to this point but I am sure some guys will start to shine soon. WR's look to be strong this year but I would not spend a 1st round on this position. I would look at anything defensive for this draft as their is some strong talent. I am also hoping we go out and are able to get a few key guys in FA. I know this is a broken record but with over 100 million with carry over we will be able to grab a few guys. They do not even have to be the huge names but please grab some talent. I think we keep AC and look to add a Guard or Tackle since so far Howard is not panning out and Smith could play either or, looking mainly at a RG position I hope though. Hope to be a very fun 2019 though.

By the looks of this list all of the top ER's will be gone when we pick.  Brissett will definitely be traded and our 1st. pick will most likely be a OT or a WR.   I don't see us having a top 15 pick.

Why the assumption of a guarantee trade of Brissett?

Repeating history is going to be a valid concern until proven otherwise.

Well if Luck can have better composure and ball management compared to Peyton we will be just fine. Even with the D in the Dungy days our offense was built to score and they were built to bend not break. When healthy they were not bad. Minus turnovers by Manning and a kick by Vanderjact we could have had a drastically different decade of dominance. So I assume the defense might not ever be a 00's Ravens but could still be just as good as the 06 Colts. Full perspective to that same history!

Which to me is odd.  Didn't Basham play a 4-3 in college?  Not sure why he's not playing well??  I really thought Simon would be the odd man out here.  Glad Simon's picking it up, though!

Both Simon and Basham played 4-3 in college. Basham had a random rookie year of learning the stand-up side of a 3-4. Now he is back to something he is more familiar with but he still needs to learn and get better. After the year is over I see him being a stronger player.

2019?   As a free agent?    Possible, but not likely.   Bell us going to gave a ton of miles on him and will want roughly $45 mill just in guaranteed money.   You think Irsay wants to do that for a veteran RB?   Not likely.

2018?    Make a trade for him now?   Not happening.   Zero percent chance.

He might not have a ton of miles if he holds true to sitting out this year. Fresh legs for next year lol.

  19. Reich also said do not put a lot of thought into the current roster/depth chart. You will have movement still and a guy like Rogers and Cain could always out play all pre-season and get the nod. I think right now they see Grant as a dependable possession guy. I just want to see everyone continue to improve and work with Wayne. Guys like KJ Brent can still impress and grab a spot imo. Very beginning right now with plenty of time to impress and show consistency.

On a side note I see a lot of 3 TE formations being used and also Hines/RB's being moved pre snap for mismatches. I am very excited to see Reich do weekly plans and not just the same crap week in and week out.

Good was the starting RT opening day and he won it over Haag.  It was his job until he was injured.  Good has his injury issues no doubt but if he can get by those then he is the guy who is going to challenge for the RT spot.  I think Haag has to improve big time to be a starter.  Now they are trying him at center to see if he can handle the backup duties there.  I don't see him as a starter but as a swing backup like Reitz if he makes the team.

Haeg was messing around at Center during OTA's. He is the swiss army knife of the line no doubt similar to Reitz. Good does have injury issues and I have been hopefully for him but that is what costed him the starting spot. Once he was healthy he did not beat Haeg for that same spot. Instead they put him at RG. The competition this yea for the RT spot hopefully is very good (no pun intended). I hope for everyone to feel like they can be replaced at any time.
