Are we finally accepting that tepper forced that move on everyone last year around here now?

I got all kinds of hell for bringing that up last fall after frank was fired in Carolina even though that story was out there almost as soon as the pick was made last year. I’m pretty sure someone even accused me of making the story up myself at one point, though to be fair that may have also been on Reddit because a very vocal few took exception to it over there as well.

Reddit is the absolute worst that the internet has to offer. I gave up trying make sense of that hellscape years ago. People think hive mind mentality is bad on this place, they should see how much worse it really is.

As far as Latu and the draft, here is something from WalterFootball.com:

Yes, Penix. I believe this to be true: The coaches and general managers wanted Latu, but Arthur Blank overrode everyone because he wanted a “succession plan,” whatever the hell that is. And if you don’t think that’s possible, all I need to do is point to the Panthers last year when David “Axe” Tepper thought he knew more than his coaching staff and front office when he went against their wishes and selected Bryce Young over the preferred option, C.J. Stroud.

And that owner is the entire reason for why Penix could be a great QB, but be in the wrong situation. Several people on Rich Eisen’s show mentioned Michael should take a moment to think before signing with team, as picking up that 2nd contract is more lucrative. They question whether he will be able to prove his worth if he’s sitting behind Cousins.

Exactly, I started to talk myself into Brian Thomas Jr at 15 and it stings the Jags got him instead but we got an elite talent at a premium position at 15. Could be a steal.

Yeah, I was thinking of him too. The more I learn about Latu though the more I like. I really hope he becomes a a huge difference maker for us on defense.

My wife and I are both 30, but we feel like old people. I don't get the sunglasses indoors, TikTok dances, or constant selfies in public, but oh well. I suppose my kids will have a leg up in the job market when they've practiced communication skills rather than the dance of the week! 😂

I turn 36 this year. The only time I ever wear sunglasses indoors is when I'm playing guitar with my band. Can't explain why, but it just helps with the anxiety and nerves lol...

Just wanted to make a note as to what many people seem to be misunderstanding:

Yes, Latu had a neck injury. Yes, he was medically retired for a season.

However, this was not his decision. Washington essentially forced him to retire after a few team doctors incorrectly said he’d never play again so that the team could open up a scholarship spot and didn’t have to wait for him to get healthy. They never once gave him a chance to prove he was healthy with a physical, so Latu left for UCLA, where he almost immediately passed a physical and was cleared by their team doctors.

Yes, a neck injury is scary, but Latu has played 2 full healthy seasons since that, and the only reason he is being questioned is because Washington and their team doctors failed to do their jobs correctly and let Latu heal.

Context is king. Thank you for sharing that. I'll look up some more information on his situation, or at least I will if my dang eye every slows down on swelling!

Really hard to figure out how this draft will fall with all the QBs taken in round 1. Were the QB needing teams desperate? Or were those kids really that good? The WRs left are good not great prospects, IMO. Looks like we're still a couple of years away from being a SB competitive team.

At this point it's not a lack of talent, it's putting the talent we have together to make the best use of it. So it would seem BPA is what is going to dictate our next pick.

Mostly desperate. Denver put themselves into a bad position with the whole Wilson thing. They really had no choice but to take a QB. Atlanta is still very odd to me with taking Penix Jr... With the whole Cousins trade, you'd have thought they were going to get one of the top defensive players to make a push for the division title.

  7. One way to counter all the offensive power is to definitely bulk up the defensive line. Belichick was pretty positive talking about Latu, and he knows defensive players better than probably all of the other analysts out there. A monster defensive lineman can really make a difference, just ask Joe Burrow after his Super Bowl loss.

The neck stuff concerns me a bit. But, I'm pulling for this kid, and hope he has a long, healthy and productive career with us.
