This D is a lot better than what Grigs left Ballard with.  We don't seem to have improved this year from last year, but we've also dealt with injuries and are still very young with some things to learn (e.g., Ya-Sin will watch tape and hopefully not put himself in position where he's 1/2 step off breaking up a TD pass like that again).

Think the whole team, and Ballard inherited the worst in the NFL aside from 5-6 players.

He has brought in Hooker, who if healthy, is a top 10 FS in the NFL (I think more like top 5).  He has brought in Q. Wilson, who is a good (not great) CB (he'd be better if the DL could hit the QB more often).  He brought in Anthony Walker who is a very solid LB, and has shown he can play several positions along the LB front.  He brought in Darius Leonard who was a first team all-pro last year (get over it, first team all-pro is for the best player at every position, meaning 31 other teams would like to have Leonard).  Turay was brought in as a project, and he's shown flashes, he needs to get more consistent, but he's not bad.  T. Lewis, when healthy, is pretty good (not great, but would make the 53 man roster on vast majority of NFL teams).  Ya-Sin is having some growing pains, but he's an NFL caliber CB for sure.  Willis has played very well for a rookie S drafted in the 4th round.  Banganu, Okerere, and Speed are all kind of project picks, but they are showing glimpses of hope while being thrown into the fire as rookies.

These lower round picks are expected to take some time to develop. Please give it the time.

I don't understand Reich's reluctance to utilize Parris Campbell? He was so happy to get the guy. He hasn't played greater than 30% of the snaps, has been targeted 5 times -with 5 receptions- for a grand total of 36 yards. I mean, I understand bringing him along slowly in the first game because of the hamstring or whatever, but we lost Funchess and guys like Pascal aren't 25% the playmaker that Parris is. Why isn't he getting the playing time like the Hollywood Brown's, Terry McLaurin's, Deebo Samuel's, DK Metcalf's, and AJ Brown's? These guys have all been featured in accordance with their skill level, and requisite draft capital, so why isn't Parris getting featured? Maybe one of you guys knows, because he's on pace for 35 catches and under 200 yards for his rookie season. The track record for guys having successful careers after having rookie campaigns with that level of production (or lack thereof) isn't stellar.

Unfortunately, draft capital doesn't mean jack squat. Do you remember the enthusiasm Jim Ersay and everyone had for

    Phillip Dorsett? Give Campbell time.

I have always thought they should change the rules, but not do away with it. It is far too exciting to get rid of it. I would much rather do away with ties.

Each team should be guaranteed a possession in OT with the visiting team getting the ball first, automatically. If they score/dont score, the home team has a chance to win the game. Rinse and repeat until there is a winner.

That would systemically favor the home team. You always want to get the ball last in the proposed system. If the first team with the ball scores a TD. Guess what? The home team plays 4 down ball the whole way down the field. Big advantage!!!

I might cry tears of joy if he falls to us and Ballard pulls the trigger

He’s sliding cause of “off the field issues” which he says he doesn’t have. He just plays video games

Those reports came about him having them a few days after he was on twitch streaming Fortnite

If playing video games is an off field issue, I’m not really sure what we’re doing anymore

Quinn Pitcock. 2nd rounder I believe.

He missed on one player last year with Banner. That happens to every team.

Basham was drafted knowing he would be a project. He was a 4-3 DE transitioning to 3-4 OLB, who also was adjusting to the huge jump in competition from Ohio to the NFL. I think he was selected with the switch to a 4-3 in mind and will do much better this season back at DE.

I don't buy any statement that Ballard made decisions with a switch to a 4-3 in mind. If that were the case, please explain Ballard's biggest FA expenditure on Hankins, who they cut because of a bad scheme fit according to Irsay.

Jones (USC) is a good back but he fits the same role as Mack.  He may even be a little smaller.

Either Guice or Michel would be a decent second rounder.  None of them compare to Barkley who has the size, speed, returns and can catch.  He’s the total package.

BUT as everyone will tell you, we need a pass rusher.  I like to ask them who do they think is the best player in the draft?   Don’t we go bpa?

I liked what I saw of Michel against Bama more than his running mate Chubb. Michel ran with much better vision.

Why?  One of the biggest complaints about Dungy's D when he was here is the Colts didn't have a run stopping DT.  Booger helped especially come play off time.  And Woods has good movement for a guy his size.  Additionally, he won't provide much of a rush but he will collapse the top side of the pocket which will help the DEs.

I don't see Woods as being nearly as quick or mobile as Booger. But, I also am drawing on my long term memory here.

I could see Geathers doing really well at the WILL position in a Tampa2 type D.  I also think a line of  Woods, Hankins at DT with Anderson and Chubb(hopefully) at DE could really hold the POA in the run game with Anderson, Chubb and Hankins being able to provide consistent pressure in the pass game.

I don't know that Woods would be a good fit for the 4-3.

I think the ultimate point is, as my wife would attest, is that size does not matter.

There is a place for WR's who can get open because of their quickness & route running,  Those guys can do things that perhaps a larger WR can't.  One of those guys who fit that description will be vital in the new Colts offense under McDaniels.  Look at their history with smaller guys who can get open quick in space - Welker, Edelman, Amendola.  I heard Kirwan during the broadcast of the Senior Bowl last week talk about Berrios from Miami as someone who fits that description and would be ideal for Indy.

I agree. One key to the Pats' quick throw offense has been the Edelman, Amendola types who use quickness and football IQ to flash open quickly. I'm not sure if Chester Rogers fits the bill or not. I think JM will want a sure fire slot receiver to implement his offense.
