  1. The OL hasn't helped, and even with 88 in his prime he wasn't a deep threat like say a Randy Moss. He was quick fast, not speed fast. Marvin was much better on a slant while Randy was tying to take the top off the defense.

I do not concur. Randy is one of the games all time greatest deep threats so the comparison isn't really fair. Harrison however, still had good deep speed well into his 30's as evidenced by him having a rec. of 60 or more yards each year from 99-2006. During his 'prime', he ran a 4.29 at Syracuse, and 4.37 on his pro day. By comparison, Desean Jackson, ran a 4.38, and he is condisered by many as one of the game's ultimate deep threats.

The reason why the deep ball went away is because defenses almost always play 2 deep safeties against Manning and force him to throw underneath, or along the seam down the middle of the middle of field. This is why Dallas Clark has routinely caught 80+ balls the past few seasons.

The other main factor is our complete lack of a threat on the ground. Teams never have to stack 8 men in the box against the Colts, as there is no threat for suffiecient gains in our running game. Our playaction, which was our bread and butter during the Edge era, has been pretty non-existent the past few seasons.

  2. bucs- i cant see a single player

chargers- i cant see a single player

Ronde Barber is a sure-shot HOFer. 15th season in the leage, SB champion, and one of the all-time best tackling dbs.

Antonio Gates will make the HOF IMO. He has been a model of consistency his entire career, and provided injuries don't set him back, I see him playing at least another 3-4 years at a high level.

  3. Brian Waters. Tarik Glen, Larry Allen, Jonathan Ogden, and Steve Hutchenson are all locks IMO. Chad Cliffton, Nick Mangold, Joe Thomas, and Joe Staley all have HOF potention IMO but they might need to win the big one (Cliff not included) to get some serious consideration.

As for the players you listed, I'd be stunned if at least 90% didn't make the HOF.

  4. Good overall list, but Cruz isn't a rookie.

You're right he is a second year player. I knew he was an UFA but I din't realize he played in 3 games for the Giants last year,

In that event, I go Tyron Smith - OT for the Cowboys, this guy has exceeded all expectations. His run blocking is stellar, and his pass protection has been an integral part of Tony Romo's success this season. AJ Green and Andy Dalton also deserve consideration though.

  5. Offensive Player of the Year:

Drew Brees - QB - Saints

    Defensive Player of the Year

    Terrell Suggs - OLB/DE - Ravens

    Rookie of the Year

    Aldon Smith - OLB/DE - 49ers

    Offensive Rookie of the Year

Victor Cruz - WR - Giants

    Defensive Rookie of the Year

    Patrick Peterson - DB/KR - Cardinals

    Coach of the Year

    Jim Harbough - 49ers

    Comeback Player of the Year

    Carlos Rogers - DB - 49ers

    Super Bowl MVP

Jordy Nelson - WR - Packers

    League MVP

Aaron Rodgers - QB - Packers

  6. Football is a game that is won at the LOS and when you see their offensive line it is just full of studs (Joe Staley, Anthony Davis, and Mike Iupati are all 1st rounders). There defensive line, likewise: Isaac Sopoaga is a beat upfront, as is Ray Macdonald out of Florida. Justin Smith is still playing at a high level and Aldon Smith brings a dominant pass rush that was missing in years past - Aldon Smith was a MONSTER Monday night, He simply owned Max Starks all night long - 3 sacks, should have had 4 if it weren't for a pentalty. He has 13 sacks so far his season, which is not only 49ers rookie record, but 4 sacks away from the team record. Patrick Willis, their all-pro LB wasn't even playing and other guys like Navarro Bowman and Raheim Moore played so well they didnt't skip a beat.

Their secondary is also extremely underrated. Dashon Goldson and Donte Whitner are second only to Polamalu/Clark as far as safety tandems go, and Carlos Rogers is playing his best ball in years. Terrel Brown, their weakest link has stepped up and has played really well lately. He did a phenominal job against Mike Wallace, and even came away with an INT.

And they STILL haven't allowed a rushing TD all season, really unbelievable when you think about it, This team may not be the best team in the league right now, but they are certainly the deepest IMO. 49ers GM Trent Baalke has done a spectaular job in rebuilding this team, and it goes without saying that Jim Harbough has done wonders for QB Alex Smith and the entire organization really.

  7. I'm surprised Ryan Broyles didn't make this list. I know injuries hurt his stock, but I thought he was the most NFL ready receiver out of the entire draft. He is deceptively quick in and out of his breaks, he has strong hands, he can go over the middle and run those tough intermediate routes and he is great after the catch.

I know he tore his ACL this past season so a lot of teams aren't going to want to take the risk with him, but I know he would have been a late 1st rouind/ early 2nd round pick otherwise.

Kendal Wright out of Baylor is IMO the best deep threat in all college football, and was a integral part of RG3's heismen campaign this season. He can bring that Desean Jackson-type homerun ability and make an immediate impact on any team.

Mark Barron is the guy to get in this draft, but don't sleep on Robert Lester Jr. He is great in coverage, and one of the best tacklers I've seen at FS.

  8. I LOVE LaMichael James. He is a dynamic playmaker with great explosiveness and versatility. He reminds me so much of the Jag's MJD; he can catch the ball out of the backfield, and he can run through the tackles just as easily as he can run outside them. I kno we have more glaring needs on the other side of the ball, but if this guy falls in our lap in the 3rd round he would hard to pass on.

  9. He may not be the most refined receiver out there, obviously his route running and hands can use some polishing, but he is far and away the most explosive big-play threat we have on the team. He is also our only WR that can consistently stretch the field. The Colts have too many draft needs to waste a high pick on a WR, so I think it is essential that the Colts resign this guy.

  10. YAY! Go Colts! And we SHUT DOWN CJ2K for the second time this year. I'm so proud of our boys, especially the defense. Donald Brown had a career day, but I thought Pat Angerer was the best player on the field all day.

  11. 1. Polian/ Caldwell goes

    2. Peyton gets healthy

    3. We get Luck with 1st overall and a good cover corner with with the 33rd over all pick. Hopefully Jayron Hosely out of Virginia Tech if he is still on the board. He can play both man and zone coverage, plus he can reurn punts to help us in the return game. Look at the impact Patrick Peterson has had over in Arizona this year.

    4. We resign Pierre Garcon and Robert Mathis

  12. This is beyond "A" bad season: The Colts have had plenty bad seasons in franchise hirstory. This is one of, if not "THE" worst seasons, not only in the history of the Colts organization, but of ANY organization in the history of professional football.

Spoiled? Maybe. But you can't expect us to sit back and take a deep breath when this season has been absoloutely EMBARASSING on all levels.

  13. That interception Bethea dropped could have turned 10-0 into 7-7 We need to draft LSU's secondary .all of it..
Colts spending an early pick on a top defenseive back who can cause turnovers and play man coverage? Why on Earth would they do that? I would LOVE LOVE LOVE to have Morris Clayborne,Tyran Mathieu, or Eric Reid back there for us, but as long a Polian and company are in town I am very scepticle that will ever happen. Polian disregards these type of players completely, and instead goes for robot zone coverage dbs in the later rounds of the draft.

PERFECT EXAMPLE: After our great SB win in 06/07, BOTH of our starting corners opted for free agency - Harper to the Titans and Davis to the Saints. On every draft board I saw leading up to the draft, it had corner as our number 1 need. By some stroke of luck an EXTREMELY talented young corner out of Arkansas by name of Chris Houston, who was projected to be an early-to-mid first round pick is still on the board 20 picks deep. Aside from Revis, who went early to the Jets, this guy is guy is hands down the best cover guy in college ball. I'm thinking to myself; "there's no way the football Gods can be as so kind as to grace us with one of the nations best cover corners with the 32nd pick, its just too good to be true. Not only was the kid lights out all year for Arkansas, but his stock was only boosted by his AMAZING performance at the NFL combine right in our own stadium - he had a 40 inch vertical jump, showed amazing ball skills, and he ran a blistering 40 time of 4.32 seconds - the fastest db in the entire draft!!!! So I'm watching the NFL network, its the 20th pick or so and they have their little ticker in the corner of the screen listing the top overall players left available as the draft continues - from ALL positions, and who do I see? Right there at the very top of the list? Chris Houston - DB out of Arkansas, right there in bold letters, just waiting to be snatched.

The picks roll off; 22nd, 23rd, 24th etc etc. Every pick it felt as if I dodged a bullet as it seemed, by some strange fluke, NO ONE had a need for a defensive back yet. My eyes were wide open, my tongue was salivating. 25th, 26th, 27th - everyone's drafting WRs and Offensive Linesmen. At this point I'm standing up like it were the fourth quarter of a vintage AFC title game! 49ers take Staley with the 28th, YES! Ravens take Grubbs with the 29th, YES! YES! YES! Big number 30 comes around to the Chargers and they take Buster Davis (LOL)! My God I'm thinking. This can't be true! Chris Houston's name has been at the top of the list in the corner of screen now for about 15 picks and and I'm pretty much foaming at the mouth at this point! Bears take Olsen at 31 and I start jumping around the room in celebration now like its the Super Bowl all over again! Pick 32, we're up. I listen to Michael Mayock(sp?) on the NFL network addressing the Colts number one need as he does every team on draft day (that guy is great btw). Colts number one DESPERATE need? Corner. Best player left on the board from any position? Chris Houston, CORNER. He could have been the first corner drafted, but somehow fell to third behind Giants' pick Aaron Ross, and was by some fluke, still there at pick 32 when he was projected as a top 15 pick! Harper and David both left town, and this is the young, fast, athletic, playmaking cover corner I've always wanted as a Colts fan! This pick is open and shut now. There was no way we could NOT draft this guy. I'm exciting as ever, heart pounding with energy, bracing myself for the official announcement and what do I hear. ANTHONY GONZALEZ!!!! ANTHONY GOLZALAZ!!!! YOU GOTTA BE KIDDING ME!!!!!

My heart sank. WR wasn't even in our top 5 needs for the team at the time; our offense was prolific as ever, but our defense had been downright horrible for much of the season (I know they played great in the playoffs during our SB run, but you'd be foolish to think otherwise). Yet, a projected 3rd to 4th round slot receiver was more important to Mr. Polian than replacing our 1 and 2 cornerbacks. We didn't even draft a replacement for Harper or David that year until the 3rd or 4th rounf with Damien Hughs. Absoloutely sickening. That right there should show you how much cincern Mr. Polian has for secondary play. He would throw you or me out there if he had to and just tell us to to stay deep and not let anyone run by us. This post in NOT a knock on Gonzalez either. He did his job and filled in nicely for Marvin when he was injured, but let's be honest here - He was a complete waste of a first round pick. Collie was drafted in the fourth round of his draft and took Gonzalez spot, and done so without getting injured every two games. He probably won't even be playing in te NFL next season.

As for Chris Houston? He now plays for the Lions, and is one of the premier cover corners in footbal and having a pro bowl season. Despite only playing 11 games this year he has 48 solo tackles, 4 INTs, including a 100-yard return TD for against the Broncos. I remember watching him run the whole 100 yards in about 5 seconds thinking to myself : "20/20 hindsight hasn't helped me feel any better about this at all" :(

  14. Believe me, the Ravens are by no means an offensive powerhouse this year. I remember on Monday Night Football a few weeks back Jacksonville completely had their way with them and shut them down in unbelievable fashion. The Titans and Seahawks did the same thing! Tell me how against the Colts, this same offense looked like a well-oiled machine?

Polian is making me sick with this crap. He has to be the most stubborn GM of all-time. Good thing for him Irsay has no guts. His defensive philosophy is ancient, his once stellar drafting has been an absoloute bust over the past 5 years, and what makes matters worse, he REFUSES to adapt any new stategies to a scheme that has been obselete for years now. He focuses all his top picks on offensive players (that have accomplished little to nothing without Manning) and he only drafts players defensively that fit this same ancient obselete tampa two cover scheme. It worked for Tampa because they had Sapp, Brooks, Barber and Lynch - one of the best defenses ever! We have nowhere near the talent they had in any aspect of our defense.

  15. Deepest receiving core? Deeper than the Packers, Colts, Saints, Giants, Eagles, Cowboys just to name a few... you got some learning to do.

Josh Morgan, when healthy, is a game changing receiver, and Michael Crabtree is maturing into the big play receiver they expected him to be when they drafted him out of Texas Tech. Vernon Davis is a premier TE in this leage and they added Braylon Edwards for added depth in the off season. On top of that, WR Kyle Williams out of ASU has had a phenominal rookie season. Both he and Ginn Jr. have great speed to stretch the field. I think 49ers receiving core is definitely in the top tier of the NFL.

  16. Haloti Ngata and Cory Redding were getting pressure and forcing the pocket to collapse all day, and Constonzo had no means to stop Suggs off the edge whatsoever.

It doesn't matter how open our receivers were getting when we had almost no protectionall day. And Orlovski is definitely no Manning as far as getting rid of the ball fast and efficiently.

  17. LOL at people thinking Colts defense is clearly superior simply because they are in the NFL. You guys do realize that several of our players are undrafted free agents that wouldn't be playing on any other NFL team? LSU's defense is FULL of NFL-caliber studs that could easily play in the NFL right now. Michael Brockers and Anthony Johnson are two of the top defensive tackles in the country, and could start for almost any NFL team right now, and Tyran Matheiu, Eric Reid, and Morris Clayborne are certainly better than any of the Colts defensive backs, save maybe Bethea.

Painter and Orlovski are absoloute jokes. Neither have won even a game at the professional level, and I see nothing from either one that would indicate they will any time soon.

Colts special teams is an absoloute joke, I could see Honey Badger taking one to the house or at least getting substantial field position.

The way the Colts secondary has looked this year I don't know if they could stop anybody. I could even see Ruben Randel making some big plays if their offensive line could hold up.
