I think we need someone to just make open field tackles, as simple as that sounds. I felt like our secondary was pretty poor at just simply getting guys to the ground.
There is way too much diving at peoples legs in the open field. And Budda might be the best open field tackler in all of football. The guy is a demon. He had like 150 tackles a few years back as a safety, which is incredible.
Budda is the closest thing to Bob Sanders I have seen since he retired. He doesnt lay the huge hits Bob did (to be fair Bob was juiced to the gills and a literal tank). But I mean, that heat seeking missle type of guy who just ends plays with picture perfect pursuit and tackling of the ball carrier.
I believe in tackling being the most overlooked skill in football. People dont seem to see the value in it, or know how to do it. but it is a lot of times what seperates really bad defenses from good defenses. I felt like we gave up like 1000 extra yards last year due to poor tackling.
I actually used to teach heads up tackling at football camps, so its a bit of a sore spot with me. But I see a lot of horrible tackling around the league.
Also, Blackmon is our ballhawking free safety in this scemario. I know a lot of people see him as more of a SS, but not me. I dont think he is top tier at it, but he is solid at both spots, and solid is fine with me.
His 150 tackle season was 5 years ago in 2019. Regardless I get what you mean tho and I'd love Budda w us. I guess it would depend on the price, no way Ballard pays a high pick and high salary for a player that frankly seems over its peak tho( just going purely by numbers, not followed Cards that much to be confident in an opinion regarding Budda)

He has played both at different points in his career.
I think Baker and Blackmon would be one of the better duos in the league.
Yeah don't get me wrong I like Budda but what we need is a ballhawk free safety. What Hooker was supposed to become. Damn, I love that man's college highlights

But those players cant do the job as well as Baker.
The entire idea is to put the best team out there you can. The money isnt an issue really. We have it.
Sorry to interrupt but I see this Budda conversation on here a lot. Isn't Budda Baker a in the box strong safety?? He isn't the type of free safety that roams deep and gets you picks. 7 interceptions in 7 years. Simmons fits that bill a lot better

Solid A from me but thats expected, our scouts and Ballard are great draft evaluators, how they perform on the field is another matter
-
We need to give a call to Justin Simmons, would round out this offseason nicely

I would go Latu and see if AD Mitchell slides to early second and trade up
Or draft Leggett / Pearson / Wilson st 46

Not familiar with him but after a little research some suggest him to be the best center prospect in this class
-
I like this kid as a corner, probably can have some time in the slot as a backup to kenny
-
This guy is really intriguing as a linebacker
-
Interested in Jaden Hicks and Jaylen Wright mainly, both would provide good value imo
Also think we need to address linebacker depth as well but not sure who could be of interest to us

Don't know him at all but suggested he has great versatility, so far pleased w the draft

Trading back and still pick him up? LFG

I guess I'm just shocked that Latu and the other top defensive picks were even available to us. You don't normally get this kind of talent at pick 15.
Exactly, I started to talk myself into Brian Thomas Jr at 15 and it stings the Jags got him instead but we got an elite talent at a premium position at 15. Could be a steal.

It's definitely 100% wasn't the player I wanted but the more I think about it the more I can't be mad at this pick. We got one of the few elite talents in this draft. Lot depends on these two rounds coming up though

We tried. It’s been reported we were the highest bidders on at least two FA players and lost both
People keep underestimating how Indianapolis keep being in the bottom part of the league in terms of a free agency location. Especially in this "self (digital) promotion" age of the players as well
I believe we offered more money to Hunter than anyone else and he choose to play elsewhere

Make your strength stronger. Classic football stuff

Time will tell if this is what we need but we basically got the best defensive player of the draft at #15
No way I can objectively be mad about that

Marvin Harrison Jr. No matter what.

Don't know what people are so crazy on this, Diggs isn't the guy you want on your team

People seem to forget that signing the player isn't like in Madden. There is more than the compensation and the money at play.

I think it was said that the cupboard was bare when he got here, implying that he would fill it. I get that a GM can fill a cupboard after 7 years more than if he got fired after 4, but the core player definition that he used isn't all that well stocked. The cupboard wasn't all that bare. Gore vs JT, TY vs Pitt, Mathis vs Buckner, AC vs Nelson, Luck vs AR. Kelly still here. Doyle vs. ? Ballard certainly has a few more little pieces here and there after 3 more years of trying, but stating there is a glaring difference, its just not there, IMO. Agreed to disagree.
Buckner, Stewart, Franklin, Paye, Speed.....the list isn't as bad. Also I'd say the OL is in a good position too. AR will be the make or break for him.

If people want free agency warriors as their team, there is plenty of out there. Deal with it, Indy has never been an FA team, it isn't a Ballard thing, fans being surprised about this must have been here for about 5 mins

Ballard is one of the best scouts in the biz, has been for over a long time.
