In Ballard we trust!
Jay Glazer and Colin Cowherd comment on the silence surrounding the Colts.
I personally think we haven't missed out on anyone so far in FA at the price tag they were available. Looking forward to the draft!

Loads of people seem to miss that we have the youngest team in the league, which is an advantage just as much as it is a disadvantage, we can't have unproven/inconsistent one year wonders like Z Smith for 12 million a year when we only have 2 players above 9 mill, 2 legendary Colts, TY and Luck. Keeping the locker room balanced and hungry is key for CB.
We will be signing FA's when the time is right.
Also, we have to face that unfortunately Indy is not exactly California or NY, not everyone will want to come here to play.

I got no problem with this. Looking forward to see him in blue.

I think they will crumble under their own pressure. Just because they got stars now it doesn't mean that the whole organisation learned how to win. I hope they'll keep ascending tho.

Man I'm so excited for Deon Cain, really hope he can comeback from that injury.

I call nonsense.
New England is always what people point to but it's not the culture there that's the winning formula, it's the scheme. The owner, HC and star QB were in a pissing match and none of mattered. The owner frequents rub and tug spots before AFCCG's, doesn't matter. They get guys who come in and flame out or don't pan out, doesn't matter. The scheme is what is king there.
Talent is key. Scheme can be used to augment or even unlock the talent, but some talent must be there to win. OBJ is not a bad culture player. Antonio Brown is different. Beckham gets upset when they are losing and not getting him the ball. The same way Brady gets upset when they are losing and he yells at his entire bench. We need to stop giving certain players outburst labels and others totally different labels when they are the same exact thing.
/Rant
I disagree a bit.
New England' scheme is that they don't depend on a scheme, can change it anytime, even during seasons. All out air attack with Moss/Welker to a quick passing game to full on run first team. They willing to fit
their scheme into whatever it takes to win. It's a winning culture. They have key pieces who stick around for 4-5 six years, mostly drafted with toughness, smarts and character, Mayo-Hightower-Mccourty (loads of them are college captains as well) etc who are moulded into the Patriots way and anchor the team. Any new guys coming in, comment on how different their whole organisation is to the rest of the NFL.
Talent is important(it's the NFL so most are pretty talented) but character and hungriness are the keys to me.

I'm wondering how Ballard will do in this year's draft with later picks in each round. That's the main worry I have with being conservative in FA. Can Ballard repeat close to last year under harder circumstances? If he can, then I'll trust him 100%.
Ballard is a great talent evaluator and has a strong record with drafting (with KC, CHicago etc) but unfortunately it's unrealistic to expect the same results as last year. I reckon we'll see a strong DL/OL draft in the first 2 rounds again.

It's not about the fan thinking he/she is smarter, it's about wondering if Ballard is smarter than 31 other GM's. After seeing what the browns and other teams have done building contending teams around young QB's, I don't blame people for questioning Ballard's method.
Absolutely understand the frustration but also understand our philosophy. We will be adding free agents to the team once we have a place for them. Signing overpriced free agents for the sake of it won't contribute to our locker room/culture and that's the most important piece for Ballard. You can't have unproven/inconsistent guys like Preston Smith/Zadarius Smith coming in for 10-12 million a year when the only two guys on our roster getting more than 9 mill are Luck and TY. Also not every free agent will fit our team/scheme/culture just because they were semi successful somewhere else.
Any teams come to mind that won consistently through free agency from the past 20 years??? I personally think the Browns will collapse under the pressure.

Why?
Cheaper, fresher, hungrier and probably/hopefully hand picked with a plan to fit in our scheme. Also due to age/experience probably more willing to fit into a scheme as well.
I think one of the key component to CB's team building philosophy is finding guys that are hungry and will make each other compete for each other, don't see that with a veteran who been passed around 2-3-4-5 teams before. Could be wrong, like Gore for example.

I'm wondering how many years some fan needs to trust Ballard and his office to do their thing.
NFL IS NOT MADDEN.

Nah, he doesn't have the same closing burst that he had before his injuries. Chiefs were 0-2 in the games he played last year and won all games without him playing safety. Then he came back for the AFCCG and I rarely saw him in position to make plays and make them.
I am not sold on his abilities right now to contribute at a high level for our D. Spagnuolos' system, very much like our system and Dungy's system, values safeties with closing ability and burst, and if they let him go, it is telling, IMO.
He has tremendous knowledge and a leader on the field, would be an amazing asset to the team imo

I'd rather have a late round rookie drafted. No need for him.

Interesting article. He never really makes a statement about Gettleman's decision making though. It is perplexing, giving OBJ the big bonus and then trading him.
We all done it in Madden

100% agree. Patriots best example. Continuously making the best with players who failed elsewhere. Talent is not universal in football, it's not like basketball, might work out some place, might not somewhere else. Really interested to see Bell behind a subpar offensive line for example.

We don't need him, he'd just take away valuable time from younger guys who are part of the future. CB is trying to build a dynasty, not win a bowl and never return like we did previously.
We'll draft OL/DL high again and build the core of the franchise.

Ballard knows KC the best, Ford hasn't been consistent and benefited from the Chiefs having the best offense in the game. Happy it wasn't us trading for him.
-
Half of the list won't be in the NFL in 3-4 years. That's not what Ballard is after.
-
Injury prone and I like what we have. Draft another hungry running back and be happy they'll cost nothing. Mack will be 1000 yard runner(bar injuries) Hines will have 60+ catches and Wilkins is a decent backup.

If people think our safeties are injury prone, they'll love Berry. That being said, IF healthy would be an excellent guy for the locker room. I just doubt Ballard ever signs a guy for big money past the age of 30.
Yeah, probably, but I think he'd be an excellent addition to our team, pushed them further and CB has tremendous respect for him. maybe.
Will be a Patriot I bet you

I'd love to see him come in and mentor our secondary. Ballard connection maybe?

I think team chemistry is really important, Ballard is attempting to build a TEAM. Our team has no stars, nobody has a base salary over 9 million apart from Hilton and Luck, you can't have unproven guys coming in, like let's say Z Smith and get paid 12 mill a year.
I stand by Ballard, he is an outstanding talent evaluator and will improve this team even further over time.

Can't really say I remember a team that has been successful and spent big money in free agency, gotta nail couple of drafts first and then incorporate free agents in the system
Apart from Mosley, I don't think any other "top talent" was worth the contract they got.
