So let the record show that I was not at the time of the draft a fan of picking Anthony Richardson.

that said, after attending training camp last year, I can see the potential and why the Colts chose him. So I have warmed up to him.

however, I thought id put out what I’ve seen thru two games thus far. Take it for what it’s worth, which it little. Just my opinion.

stats are easily available so I’m not gonna post all those, just general observations.

    the Bad:

Timing is not down with most of his receivers.

short and medium range accuracy still needs a big improvement.

The interceptions, not counting the end of the game today, have all been because he’s stared down or decided where he was going with the ball without seeing the defender.

Hand offs were a big problem today with the two fumbles.

    the good:

his ability to bounce back after a mistake.

his pressure escaping ability. Our OL has been getting abused (again wth) and he’s got defenders in his face it seems in every drop back.

    long range accuracy.

running to make a play vs running just to run first like Lamar. This is the part that most worried me coming out of the draft.

his arm strength. He has 2 of the top 5 longest catches in the next gen stat era and both were over 60 yards.

    conclusion:

AR in an interview last offseason stated he wanted to work more on being a pocket passer vs a run first QB that everyone had him pegged as. I think this is part of the reason we have seen the play calling manner that we have seen.  Flacco being brought it strengthens that theory in my opinion. If and this is a big IF, AR can develop that part of his game, he’ll be nearly unstoppable barring health. But he’s got a long ways to go.

heading into this season, I’ve said multiple times that this is gonna be AR like a rookie all over again. He never got to have a full season so the game hasn’t slowed down for him yet.

there’s gonna be huge swings in his performance but overall, I’ve seen enough so far that I’m not panicking over QB play…. Yet.

Fair analysis I'd say and I must say, I haven't been this excited to see us since Luck's first year. He simply needs more time and continuity with Steichen and we can have something special.

  2. I saw an entertaining game with a team that fought hard but came up short. Couple of near connections between AR and Mitchell were huge missed opportunities but this is still a young offense molding together. Steichen had a C+ game in my eyes.

  3. This is basically gonna be AR's rookie year. Anything is on the table w him. If he misses more than half a games its a bad sign moving forward because make no mistake he is not here to be a pocket passer.

I think at this point the only realistic conclusion about AR is that he can execute Steichen's offense. Thats a good start for a "rookie"

I think we need someone to just make open field tackles, as simple as that sounds. I felt like our secondary was pretty poor at just simply getting guys to the ground.

There is way too much diving at peoples legs in the open field. And Budda might be the best open field tackler in all of football. The guy is a demon. He had like 150 tackles a few years back as a safety, which is incredible.

Budda is the closest thing to Bob Sanders I have seen since he retired. He doesnt lay the huge hits Bob did (to be fair Bob was juiced to the gills and a literal tank). But I mean, that heat seeking missle type of guy who just ends plays with picture perfect pursuit and tackling of the ball carrier.

I believe in tackling being the most overlooked skill in football. People dont seem to see the value in it, or know how to do it. but it is a lot of times what seperates really bad defenses from good defenses. I felt like we gave up like 1000 extra yards last year due to poor tackling.

I actually used to teach heads up tackling at football camps, so its a bit of a sore spot with me.  But I see a lot of horrible tackling around the league.

Also, Blackmon is our ballhawking free safety in this scemario. I know a lot of people see him as more of a SS, but not me. I dont think he is top tier at it, but he is solid at both spots, and solid is fine with me.

His 150 tackle season was 5 years ago in 2019. Regardless I get what you mean tho and I'd love Budda w us. I guess it would depend on the price, no way Ballard pays a high pick and high salary for a player that frankly seems over its peak tho( just going purely by numbers, not followed Cards that much to be confident in an opinion regarding Budda)

He has played both at different points in his career.

I think Baker and Blackmon would be one of the better duos in the league.

Yeah don't get me wrong I like Budda but what we need is a ballhawk free safety. What Hooker was supposed to become. Damn, I love that man's college highlights

But those players cant do the job as well as Baker.

The entire idea is to put the best team out there you can. The money isnt an issue really. We have it.

Sorry to interrupt but I see this Budda conversation on here a lot. Isn't Budda Baker a in the box strong safety??  He isn't the type of free safety that roams deep and gets you picks. 7 interceptions in 7 years. Simmons fits that bill a lot better

  7. Interested in Jaden Hicks and Jaylen Wright mainly, both would provide good value imo

Also think we need to address linebacker depth as well but not sure who could be of interest to us

I guess I'm just shocked that Latu and the other top defensive picks were even available to us. You don't normally get this kind of talent at pick 15.

Exactly, I started to talk myself into Brian Thomas Jr at 15 and it stings the Jags got him instead but we got an elite talent at a premium position at 15. Could be a steal.
