I also find it to be borderline laughable, these comments saying Leonard needs to beef up and drastically improve.  He’s an All-Pro in his first year and very possibly going to be DROY, for goodness sakes.   Trying to shine a light on so called Leonard short comings are, quite frankly, utterly ludicrous!

Eh... I'm a huge Leonard fan have been since the draft but he played like utter crap in Houston and the first half of the KC game.

Notice when he settled down and played his position instead of trying to be a hero the defense started shutting down KC in the second half. Leonard is great but he is not above reproach.  His regular season success is nice and all but you have to bring it in the post season and Leonard did not until the very end.

i do think the weather bothered him like some other great colt quarterback,What was his name ?

Lmao how jaded your memory is. Marvin disappeared in the playoffs moreso than Peyton.

And while Peyton was effected by weather he never looked scared and threw lame armed 5 yard passes.  Manning's wobblers were the ones he chunked 20 yards and at least forced it near the player.

You really want to bench the rookie picked as an All Pro?

Yes. He isn't playing like he did the entire regular season. This is his second game in a row that he's the worst player on our defense. If you want to give him a pass because he has past glory go ahead. But imo he needs to be benched for someone who doesn't overrun plays and take himself out of plays.

Another thing I commented on  mid season.

Yes he is a good player but I think he has been fortunate at times this year getting some fluke plays in.

He is not Mack as LB.  Unless he gains 30 pounds he never will be.

He was great during the season. But he's been absolute trash the playoff games. Just do your freaking job. Quit running yourself out of plays. Every single big play the chiefs make it's on Leonard. He's again the worst player on the defense for a 2nd game in a row.

Oh man... if I was the owner of the Colts...

I already spend too much time spouting off on these forums...

A super-biased homer with too much money and too much free time?  I would be intolerable as the owner!  haha

This. I'd be talking trash weekly and calling out other owners Twitter's and making stupid bets for charity lol.

Side comment this is already done in other sports lol.  I'm a big follower of esports and their owners talk trash all the time. Of course their owners are much younger and more tech savvy but it's hilarious.

Regarding Leonard, I think he was available because of the ILB depth more than anything. FCS players don't get drafted in the 1st round over similar guys from bigger schools. Maybe that will change in the future...but I think Leonard is the highest-drafted FCS player in a very long time. Ballard taking him where he did was even surprising to many (given that context).

Good post.  I disagree with this part but only because I have a personal opinion on it and I'm pretty sure regardless you are correct that GMs do have bias according to school/conference.

I just don't see players that way.  Number one, most of the time you don't get players drafted from the FCS because simply they don't recruit as well as the other conferences. Two rarely do you ever have a player with the type of ability Leonard had period.  There wasn't a similar player to him in any conference.  Before the draft I had no doubt he was a first round player based simply on the fact he had so much potential at rushing the passer. I honestly thought he'd be transitioned to an OLB somewhere and he'd be a rush specialist.  Either way the fact he was drafted that high (based on talent not school) shouldn't have surprised anyone.  In fact I think it's more surprising someone with his ability to rush the passer slipped out if the first round when someone like Davenport was drafted in the middle of it.

Again though strictly my opinion and most likely not correct.

  7.

The best 2 things that ever happened to Luck we're his injury and Reich.  Before this season I knew he was good but didn't know if he'd ever be great.

After watching this season...  Everyone better lookout we might be looking at the best to ever play.  He has everything you want in a QB.  He plays the game and enjoys it like Farve (has his magic too).  Is clutch and determined like Brady. And now he prepares and approaches the game like the previous greatest Manning.

    Oh boy I can't wait.

And they can double dip again. You can never have too many pass rushers.

Eh I should have elaborated on this point my apologies. I meant that I think it would have been more efficient to take what the draft was plentiful in (which at that point in the second round was corners) than take 2 defensive lineman in a poor defensive lineman draft.  Of course in hindsight it's not to big of a deal since our existing corners decided to play excellent ball but at the time this was my viewpoint and well technically it still is.  I just don't think it's a valid criticism of Ballard, so it really doesn't matter lol.

  9. So I love talking draft and then I read this entire thread... Lol

So naturally I'd like to chime in. I too had a hard time swallowing the fact we took a guard that high but I see the draft a little differently than most.   Drafts are their own entity.  You can't value this position over the other statically as if all drafts are equal it doesn't work that way.  The reason why I initially had an issue with taking Nelson was that I knew that this draft was extremely deep at the guard position and the drop off from Nelson to the next 4 guards was not a very big drop.

    Insert the draft guru Ballard.

Ballard had a very good read on the meta of the other teams in the draft and wisely took Nelson at 6.  No way could anyone tell you that 8 olineman would be taken before we pick again and 6 of them would be interior guys.  That just doesn't happen.  And the great thing about that was Leonard being pushed out of the first and to the top of the second.  Very rarely do you see a Linebacker with so much ability to rush the passer and elite physical traits fall out of the first round no matter the school he came from.

So in a nutshell while I initially questioned the Nelson pick as the first round came to an end it was apparent that the pick was a great one.

My only quam from the draft was that we double dipped on the Dline with high picks when this upcoming draft is one of the deepest Dline and edge drafts in recent memory. I feel like we could have held a little foresight on that but it matters not the season has been awesome.

whats really scary is depth at Defensive tackle . autry has not practiced all week , and we have 4 players active for the two interior line .  Autry goes down ridgeway is playing every single snap on defense the whole game.

Oh boy you must be new.

FYI Ridgeway is one of our best penetrating tackles. If we have to rely on him a whole game I think we will be seeing that we have a pretty good rotation.

I suggest you calm down and learn a little bit.  We have an extremely knowledgeable community here.

who has the most drops on offense this year per attempt ? not saying he is marvin harrison , but ebron chester rogers have been horrible with drops

    ROFL

    Again you are severely misinformed.

So you are comparing a guy who has been benched with 30 receptions and almost no production in TDs or yards to 2 receivers who both have higher production (especially) Ebron but have similar drop numbers and you believe you have a point? Lol please you have nothing to stand on. Ebron has 2 more dropped passes than your boy Grant but also 200 plus more yards and 10 more TDs.  But hey you cling onto that supposedly groundbreaking statistic while you ignore all others.  There's a reason Rogers and Inman have had more snaps per game the last 8 weeks of the season and it's because Grant is terrible and being out played.

  12. Most lineman reach peak strength by their 3rd year in the NFL.  After that there isn't too much growing individually as oline play at this level is more of how fluid the entire line moves together.  If you see growth that's where it'll be.  There isn't much more "maturing" from a lineman unless they come from a completely non traditional offense in which they need to learn the basics of leverage and feet placement. (Which our line does not need this).

I'd say Nelson is close to finished product (maybe a little stronger due to NFL weight room) as is Kelly and Castonzo.  Glowinski is a vet, but Smith has some growing to do.  That's probably the lineman who will reach peak status in year 3.

I'm going off what Ballard told us, so there's that.... Plus Best Player Available is a made up nonsense unless you love Grigson's draft style.  If the BPA is a QB are we taking him?  If Harry is the best WR in the draft he won't be there anyway.  Plus, who cares about the draft right now? Final note, you may want to check your use of the use of rhetoric.

Ballard stated he wants the best players lol...  Grigsons style?  The guy who took needs based players nonstop is your argument for best player available lol...

I was making light of the conversation about us taking a receiver after winning the Superbowl.  You seem to be intent on dismissing my post for some odd reason while making yourself look foolish.

Um exactly how did I misuse that word lol?  Here I'll give you the definition.

"language designed to have a persuasive or impressive effect on its audience, but often regarded as lacking in sincerity or meaningful content."

Your statement was a pointless attempt at persuasion that had no substance. I like to be efficient with my words instead of typing out a full sentence than a single word but it's whatever.

    We're not building outside in.

What the heck are you talking about lol pointless rhetoric.  You take the best player available and the Dline and edge talent will be ravaged with the first 25 picks. Perfect for us to take the best position possible.  Also QBs still need receivers.

Taking a receiver doesn't mean you ignore everything else FYI.

Well this damage control is poppycock, and is trying to damage the image of the Colts, so we have a right to be upset about it.

Yes but no one in their right mind is going to believe it lol.  The results speak for themselves.  There's no reason to be bothered. The actual minds of the NFL are going to say this guy threw a chance away at working with the best QB in the league lol
