Would you rather have a top rated safety/linebacker or the 10th rated receiver? With how many receivers flew off the board, the value there gets pushed back until the 4th/5th. I was hoping for a good one to fall but knew better because the top 7 or 8 are really talented. I don’t know how we go into the season with what that WR group. It needs something at some point.

we have good wrs imo we needed at least one elite top tier wr but ballard chose pass rush which we needed too

Don't mind you answering at all - I asked because I wanted the discussion.

I just think "very good" is a stretch when it's almost entirely based on hope. I think Granson and Mo are average. Mallory, Ogletree and Woods have upside and have shown a few flashes, but that doesn't make our TE room "very good" in my opinion. Worst case what we've seen from Ogletree, Mallory and Woods is their ceiling (for whatever reason). I hope our young TEs turn out great (don't get me wrong), I'd just like to see it for once instead of basing the team around what we hope. That's also why I absolutely think we need to pick Bowers if he's there at 15.

would be nice to have a kelse or gronkoski type tight end

Nope. Besides the colts and Ryan Kelly have been really close and they’ve supported him with his personal life tragedies. I think he’d be supportive

You don’t take a FS in the first… and CBs, meh in the middle or upper first

ballard drafted hooker in the first with pick 15, that did not work out for us

So only 19-21 players with 1st rd grades and he’s willing to trade up for the right player if he’s in striking distance.  So how many of those 21 players would be available at 15 If he’s trying to strengthen the team with a difference making player in a position of need.  The key being 1st rd grade in a position of need.  I don’t see him going inside the top 5 but I think he’s going to do it somewhere starting with pick 9.  I think he would consider Bowers, Nabors , Odunze, and Turner as candidates for being the right player.  I think he will move up for one of those players starting at pick 9 depending on how the draft falls.  19-21 is a small number and a number of those positions are not a position of need.  Can’t see him waiting. I think he likes our secondary too. I think he told us he’s prepared to move up to try for a playmaker if he falls within striking distance.  I think he’s going to do it.

sure hope he does we need a game changing pass catcher

If we trade back, I won't be happy at all. We need an impact playmaker at WR. Pittman is a good #1 (not great), he is a good possession WR which is needed. Having said that, we need someone that can blow the doors off of teams that they fear like a Marvin, Nabors, or Rome. In today's league you have to score a lot of points to win - keep up with teams like the Chiefs, Ravens, and Cincy with Burrow.

We need to trade up, JMO.

ballard seems to like  more lower picks instead of high quality picks

The difference with Mahomes and AR to me is the timeline of the GMs on both teams. Brett Veach was only on the Chiefs for a year at this point before he started building around Mahomes. Ballard is the GM of the Colts for 8 years now and he isn't doing it. With Veach, you can argue it's because he was waiting for Mahomes to get better and he was relatively new as a GM. With Ballard, it's just how he is.

The rosters are similar from that time, yes. I agree. I just think we are fooling ourselves by saying he's going to spend over and over and it never happens. We just come up with a new reason. I'm guilty of it too. I'm actually fine with the offseason besides Sneed. That was inexcusable not getting him IMO, but everything else is ok. We just have to do well in the draft. I think we will take a WR on day 2 or in a trade down (Xavier Worthy maybe). The draft is Ballards bread and butter, so I always know he'll do his best there to help the team.

ballard will do his best in the draft but he has not been good at drafting game changing wrs or pass rushers

Still debating  whether  we should go wr or cb first. I think impact players at both positions will be there in the 1st and 2nd. I truly  love the idea of getting  a speedster who can separate  and catch for Richardson  to make full use of his arm, but have a shut down corner would help as well. If only we could get both. Bowers  pick would be a luxury  pick as we still need an upgrade  at wr as I don't  want to start this season  without  a wr that can push pierce

imo the nfls receiver friendly rules have made cbs second round and below only

I feel Ballard put us in a spot where we need a top CB still by not trading for Sneed. Mitchell is the perfect scheme fit for Gus Bradley's defense. Ballard may not pick him, but I like him better than anyone else at 15 when you combine need and scheme fit.

if he is available at 15 i like bowers, i can just imagine the colts having a pass catching te like kelse or gronkowski

I love this forum as a whole, so I am trying to get along with everyone better. I love talking all sports and respect many here. We all can improve. It is the best football forum by far. If you go to others, you will see. The Mods deserve a lot of credit here, but I have always thought that for keeping this place sane. I have even had good convo with Doug and Mosse lately, life is too short to be upset with people because they have different points of views than many. I am over it regarding that The Simpsons GIF by KiwiGo (KGO)

we needs more posts like this

Yeah I get it. But history is not on the Texans side. The super bidders of FA of the last 20 years, 16 of them have missed the playoffs and only the Rams have gotten to the Conference Championships or beyond.  They could but it’d be unlikely,

meanwhile, teams like the chiefs and Bills were rather patient , building a deep solid set of rosters before finally landing their QB and boom, they’re contenders for the big dance.

I feel that Ballard is taking this approach and once he knows what he has in AR, then I think we’ll see a change in mannerisms towards FA.

I hope you are right and he gets ar some better weapons and game changers

Not saying you’re wrong but… I’m saving this post for when the Texans strategy blows up in their face.

I think Ballard is too conservative but I think Caserio is too reckless. It’s gonna bite them harder than us when it back fires. As history has shown time and time again.

as I’ve said for years, we are the mid 2000s chiefs under Alex smith. A team that is on the edge of the playoffs but need the right guy at the right time. Entirely plausible that AR is that guy, but we don’t know. If he turns out good to great and we own the Texans again, I hope you and others come back to eat some crow. Likewise, if the Texans somehow win a ring, I’ll eat my crow.

I certainly dont want the texans to be better than us and I hope that I eat crow lol. But caserios method seems to be working for them but it could blow up down the road . Meanwhile ballard is just plodding along and not upgrading our weak positions which is not keeping up with the texans. I want us to win it makes our team so much more fun to watch.
