  1. Does anyone know how the waiver system works?  I know teams have 24 hours to put in a claim and we are 26th in line.  So . . . say we want to claim Halapio.  Do we put in a claim and then wait 24 hours to see if anyone higher claims him?  If we claim Halapio, can we also claim Winston, but then if both clear waivers, we are stuck with both?

  2. Good job, Gavin.  Like others, I think the Colts will keep 5 safeties, adding Adams, possibly as the starter opposite Landry. My hope is that  the Colts instead get another safety. The open spot should come from the DL, cutting McKinney.  Jones, Montori Hughes and Ricky J-F can all move to NT if needed.  I think we keep Harvey, instead of Havili, who may start the season on the PUP.  Although I like your pick better, Sheppard will probably make it, with Cam Johnson out.  A 5th RB is probable due to the concerns about Bradshaw's health: Tipton? or waiver pickup.

  3. Anyone watching the tapes knows Cherilus can't run block. Terrible at it.  He is decent, not great, as a pass blocker.  Coltscrazy is correct that in retrospect we should have moved Castonzo, a great run blocker, to RT and gotten a LT (ie Jake Long).  But what we have, we have.  Right now, the key question is whether Hugh Thornton can handle RG.  If he is bad, the experiment at center fails and the expected so-so performance at LG results in a open door in the middle of our line.  Worst case scenario: Luck goes down and our excellent array of receivers goes for nothing.  My prediction, however, is that Luck will continue to do what he has done: evade the rush from the interior and find people downfield, or run.  It will not matter that our interior line is crap.  Say a prayer for Trent Richardson though.

  4. Why do the author and some of the commentatiors not draw the obvious conclusion?  Luck wins the close ones because he is a great quarterback. Look at Brady's numbers.  Is the conclusion that he must necessarily start losing the close games because the statistical norm is 50%?  It is what makes him Tom Brady.  My prediction is that Luck will continue to win an abnormal amount of close games throughout his career.  Why?  Hint:  it isn't the statistical norms.

  5. I hope everyone reads down far enough to get the discussion between Bavalan and Superman. For one thing, it is so rare that we see two intelligent people discussing a difficult topic on these forums (:  (It's a joke; it's a joke!)  Bav convinces Supe that the whole idea of an injury settlement is not applicable to Donald Thomas' situation.  So the poll at the top is kinda beside the point. The bottom line:  Thomas can ONLY go on IR and the Colts are stuck with his 2014 salary and cap space.  We can't gain the 3M cap space or make an injury settlement.

  6. How can I prove it? You've watched him, and I assume you watch the rest of the nfl. Andrew is great, but his mechanics don't seem consistent. His feet are sonetimes sloppy amd his motion can be elongated at times. I want to know cam this be fixed. Like how Rodgers mechanocs were completely changed.

I don't know whether you are just trolling the board for attention, or whether you are just ignorant.  Andrew Luck's mechanics have been analyzed by dozens of coaches and ex-NFL quarterbacks and the universal opinion is that Andrew Luck has the most advanced mechanics of any quarterback coming into the league that they have ever seen. His father was an NFL  quarterback and a family friend of the Manning family.  He attended quarterback camps, such as Peyton Manning's, since he was a child.  He is extremely intelligent and dedicated to his craft.  He has been working on his "mechanics" since he could walk.  Tell me again:  who the hell are you?

  7. We were able to run the ball the first few games of the season (I am not including Lucks scrambles)

vs Oakland (Bradshaw, Ballard combined 20 runs for 89 yards, 4.45 ypc)

vs Miami (Brown, Bradshaw 22 carries Combined 95 yards, 4.3 ypc).....Thomas went down in this game for the season

vs 49ers (35 carries between Bradshaw, Brown and Ballard....155 rushing yards 4.42 ypc)

vs Jax (Brown, Richardson, 23 carries 125 carries, 5.4 ypc)

vs Seattle (Richardson, Brown 24 carries, 93 yards, 3.8 ypc)

vs Chargers ( 13 carries between Richardson and Brown 55 yards, 4.23 ypc....Ran the ball well and Luck threw 12 incomplete passes the entire game....Chargers....particularly Matthews ran all over us and our defense could not get off the field)

    There was other games

Thanks, Gavin for all this work, especially in a hopeless cause.  We finished 21st in rushing yards on a team dedicated to running the ball.  Maybe we should have kept Satele and McGlynn because they were so great?  I guess we were forced to run the ball because we didn't have a quarterback.

  8. It seems to me the defenders of Pep Hamilton's play calling are missing the point.  Last season, the Colts couldn't run the ball.  It may sound good in a press conference to say "We're going to establish the run." or "We want to be able to run the ball and stop the run."  It should have taken Pep Hamilton and Chuck Pagano about three plays into the season to realize that the Colts couldn't do that.  If your offensive linemen can't block, you can't run the ball into the line.  I don't care what your "philosophy" is.

  9. Dude! I think the coaches love Griff Whalen; so does the quarterback.  Whalen is smart, he gets open and he catches the ball, three good things in a receiver.  But the real reason Whalen would have beaten out Brazill is because Whalen is our punt returner.  The Colts cannot have T.Y. Hilton returning punts;if T.Y. got injured returning a punt, the whole coaching staff should be fired.  I think Andrew Luck could be a good punt returner too, but I hope they don't use him,  So who else do we have?  Let's think. We need someone who is smart, catches the ball and can get open in tight spaces.  Someone who is a backup  What about our best punt returner from last year?

  10. Too each his own

Whalen makes the team because he is our best punt returner (by far).  The argument on the board centers on which of the two has the most potential as a receiver. That's the wrong question.  Neither will play.  If Reggie can't play and IF Nicks can't play, we will go with more 2 TE sets, Allen, Fleener, TY and Moncrief.  I thinf the real question is whether Brazill can outshine Rogers for a "developmental" role.

  11. Grigson addressed the Holmes situation in the press conference where he got some flak for getting a little snippy (the "Whatsa Matter U" comment).  But what he said made sense.  He and Pagano are the ones who have watched Holmes in practice for a year.  They think he's ready.  If they're wrong, then they deserve criticism, but for the moment, they have the advantage of seeing him work.

  12. Like a lot of Colt fans, I am really looking forward to this training camp. A lot of questions we can't answer now will become hot topics then.  What about Khaled Holmes?  Is Donald Thomas recovered?  Will any of the UDFA's step up?

This undrafted class seems to have some real possibilities, but two weeks camp and the preseason is a pretty short time for them to impress the coaches.  A list of players that are intriguing: Qua Cox, Zach Kerr, Henoc Muamba.  Dewey McDonald, Loucheiz Purifoy.  From last year's roster, there are Sheldon Price and  Daniel Adongo,  The cutdown to 53 will be tough.  Can you cut Zach Kerr without some team grabbing him?  A lot of teams were interested in Muamba before we signed him.

Is Bjoern Werner really bigger and stronger?  Can he rush the passer now?  Where does Jack Mewhort fit?

Anyone else see any interesting camp battles?

  13. Fans like to see their team rated highly, but it's  better really to be underrated.  You want the Richard Shermans to come to town thinking TY Hilton is such a scrub; he wasn't even in the top 100.  And, you don't want TY himself thinking "I'm really great; number 15 this year," instead of scrambling up the mountain.

  14. He doesn't compare to either of those guys because he doesn't play like them. I get it, we sometimes default to comparing white receivers other white receivers. But no one would ever compare Griff Whalen to either of those two guys.

Can I compare Whalen to Brandon Stokely?

  15. I believe Reggie Wayne has always felt overlooked because he was clearly second banana to Marvin.  Reggie is a Hall of Famer but Peyton Manning's second choice always.  Even after Marvin left, he never seemed to have the rapport with Manning.  The only time I remember Reggie complaining was after the 2011 playoff loss to the Jets when he was targeted once in the game. "I shouldn't have even suited up," said Reggie. In my opinion, one of the reasons he stayed with the Colts when Luck arrived was that he would be the clear #1 and in addition could go after Marvin's records.  Luck thinks he is great.  Greater than Marvin?  I don't know what Andrew thinks but I am guessing the answer is "Yes," in Reggie's secret thoughts.

  16. Since the crown of the head is the strongest part of the skull, and the part that delivers blows to other players, I assume the design is to help lessen the concussions sustained by other players, not necessarily to help lessen the concussions sustained by the wearer, such as Fleener.

Seems odd that a TE would be wearing it.  Usually players get concussions by being hit in all parts of the head except the crown.

    I could be all wrong.

    Agree with Coffeedrinker.

  17. Griff won't make the team if Moncrief shows out as a returner.

Whalen is our best punt returner; he doesn't return kickoffs.  These are different skills.  I can see Moncrief as a kickoff returner, doubtful about punts. Number one priority as a punt returner:  don't drop the ball.  Second, shifty.  Moncrief's hands, meh.

  18. Think of it this way; his stats (according to PFF) over the last few years and his career are very similar to Antoine Bethea's.  Adams is three years older.  He'll be fine; we hope he doesn't have to play too much. :)
