  1. I had a few more thoughts on the likelihood of an injunction.  It is not a given that the court would grant the injunction on appeal if Brady loses, however, I think it is very possible.  If the case continues for six months to a  year, I can envision a scenario where Brady decides to retire if he loses the appeal, especially if the Patriots win the Super Bowl this year.  He is a proud man. He will be 38 next week.  I can see him telling the NFL to stick their suspension sideways.

  2. What isn't getting a lot of play time is the idea that if this issue goes to court, odds are Brady will be playing from the get go.

However, if he then loses in court he could be serving that 4 game suspension right before or during the playoffs.

Unless there's some NFL rule that I'm not aware of that prevents that. Which is entirely possible, if not probable based on my understanding of the rule book lol.

I agree that fans are overlooking that a court will issue a restraining order or injunction against the NFL which will prevent the suspension. Brady's argument is that he will be irreparably harmed by the suspension before the merits of the case can be adjudicated.  I think it is highly likely the judge would agree.  In fact, even if Brady loses (after what, two or three months), he and the player's union will no doubt appeal and ask for an injunction during the appeal, which again would likely be granted.  We are then talking many more months.  The conclusion:  Brady will play every game this season.

  3. Thanks, Dustin.  Astute list as usual.  Here is my list of possibles for the first three rounds. Guesstimates derived from NFL.com, CBS (NflDraftScout), draftcountdown, draftace, walterfootball, draftboardguru, nflroughdraft, Mike Mayock, draft simulators) In the draft simulations (First-pick and On the Clock), my biggest takeaway was how many times a top RB fell to us in Round 3; also the second tier RBs, such as Yeldon, David Johnson, Cobb, etc. might be just what we need (in other words, no RB in rounds 1-2).  The notes (met) means the Colts interviewed and/or worked out a prospect.

    Round 1.

    Alvin “Bud” Dupree (met)

    Landon Collins (met- pro-day)

    Arik Armstead

    Eddie Goldman (met)

    Andrus Peat

    T.J. Clemmings (met)

    Jalen Collins

    Eric Kendricks (met)

    Shaq Thompson (met)

    Owamagbe Odighizuwa

    Round 2

    Danielle Hunter

    Josh Shaw

  4. I think one of these players will fall to 29.  I would pick them in this order:

    Alvin “Bud” Dupree

    Landon Collins

    Eddie Goldman

    Jalen Collins

    Arik Armstead

    Andrus Peat

    T.J. Clemmings

    Eric Kendricks

If we don't pick Kendricks, in Round 2 there should be a good linebacker/edge rusher available:

    Danielle Hunter

    Paul Dawson

    Stephone Anthony

    Denzel Perryman

    Nate Orchard

Round 3 is a good spot for safety/cornerbacks who can play safety:

    Alex Carter

    Josh Shaw

    Jaquiski Tartt

    Derron Smith

So Defense all the way.  I like the choice of Havenstein. We need a Right Tackle of the future.  Maybe Ty Sambrailo will be there in the 4th.  Or best available RB.

  5. Before counting the Dre, Langford and Adams signings, our cap space on Spotrac was $18,178,511 (including the draft figures). We don’t know the numbers for Langford or Adams yet but say $3M apiece. 18M-13M = 5M. So I think we are done in FA. We can’t cut TRich yet. I don’t see us cutting Walden (4M) or Donald Thomas (3.7M) before training camp. But the signings were so great we can get our DL and S in the draft One of these should fall to Pick 29: Eddie Goldman Florida State 6-4 336/Arik Armstead Oregon 6-7 292/Jordan Phillips Oklahoma 6-5 329. Round 2? Lots of DE/OLB types. Or an offensive tackle? Jaquiski Tartt S would be a great 3rd Round pick. Oh happy day.

  6. All these rankings change but ATM, there seems to be a deep class of DE/LB types.  Safeties, not so much. I think we need an inside linebacker to replace D'Qwell, if McNary can't cut it.  The list (numbers are CBS/DraftScout rankings):   6 Shawn Oakman DE Baylor 6-8 275;10 Shaq Thompson OLB Washington 6-2 231;11 Vic Beasley OLB Clemson 6-2 235;12 Shane Ray DE Missouri 6-3 245;18 Shilique Calhoun DE Michigan State 6-4 257;20 Dante Fowler DE Florida 6-2 261; 22 Benardrick McKinney ILB Mississippi State 6-4 249; 23? (CBS doesn't rank Floyd as he is a sophomore) Leonard Floyd DE Georgia 6-4 230; 25 Alvin Dupree DE Kentucky 6-4 267.  I would be happy with either McKinney or Dupree.  Late in the 2nd round may be the spot for a safety: 52 Derron Smith FS Fresno State 5-11 197; 67 Cody Prewitt FS Ole Miss 6-2 217;76 Kurtis Drummond FS Michigan State 6-1 205.  Denzel Perryman ILB 5-11 242 is listed at 56.

  7. Gosder Cherilus signed a 5 year / $35 million contract with the Indianapolis Colts, including a $10,000,000 signing bonus, $15,500,000 guaranteed, and an annual average salary of $7,000,000.

Looks like we are stuck with him for a few more years.

    http://www.spotrac.com/nfl/indianapolis-colts/gosder-cherilus/

1959 is correct in his contract details.  Looking at it a little more closely, next season the "dead money" and the cap hit are virtually the same (6,000,000/ 6,900,000) so it makes no sense to cut him.  In 2016, the Colts can  save 6M by cutting him, which I think will happen if he doesn't improve.  The problem is that this year he has been dismal.  I agree with those who point the finger at Cherilus for much of Luck's problems on Sunday.  His failure this year is puzzling as he has always been a pretty good pass blocker, but a bad run blocker.  Is he injured?  He only 30 years old so it shouldn't be age.  Is he out of shape?  For whatever reason, I think he has been poor enough that he should be replaced right now.  The question is how.  During the draft, many speculated that Jack Mewhort was drafted as a future right tackle, but that seems like a project for next year.  On the hand, we have better options at left guard than right tackle.  Reitz has done OK in relief and works well with Costanzo.  Maybe Khaled Holmes can play left guard. Maybe they can give Xavier Nixon a chance at right tackle.

  8. Tom Brady is in the 2nd year of a 5 year contract for 70M, 14M annual.  I don't expect Luck to sign for 14M but I agree with those who say that Luck is team oriented and win oriented like Brady.  Luck is worth 25M or more on the open market but he will sign for less, I think.  Irsay will pay him what he asks.

  9. What about this scenario:  Mewhort replaces Cherilus at RT in a few years.  Harrison develops as a center.  Hugh Thornton improves.  Holmes becomes the left guard.  Costanzo-Holmes-Harrison-Thornton-Mewhort.  I think it is plausible enough to keep Holmes around to see if he can do it.  If not, maybe Donald Thomas can come back.

  10. IMHO, this is the most important game this season for the Colts.  It is worrisome that they are going on the road in a short week.  The Texan fan Qwizboy makes a good point:  Cushing, Joseph and Lewis are all good players.  They had a nightmare season last year when their QB imploded.  If the Colts win in Houston, it is very difficult to see how Houston can win the division.  Tennesee and Jacksonville are already cooked.   Put another way, I think this game is for the division title, at least from the Colts perspective.  Prediction?  Colts win a close one in a fierce battle.

  11. The Tuesday injury report lists both as DNP.  Mewhort  probably will not play but what about Thornton?  Lance Louis would take one guard spot, Is Joe Reitz next man up for the other?  Has he recovered from his own injury?  I had the random idea that it might be Khaled Holmes.  Or maybe Pagano can find a way to play Harrison at both guard and center.  Opinions?

  12. I agree with Gary Backett.  Everyone is focusing on what we do against Peyton.  IMO, this game will be won by the Colts, if they do, because we are able to run the ball.  They have Terrance Knighton, who is a great run stopper, and Von Miller, also great against the run.  However, our interior line may be able to create some holes.  This is what Colts fans are waiting for and it could happen.  You don't want your rookie LG pass blocking too much anyway, but can he run block?  Unless Grigson has made a huge mistake, the answer to that is "Yes."  Hugh Thornton may be a better run blocker than we think, moved back to RG, where he practiced last preseason.  Can Khaled Holmes run block?  Will we get to find out?  I am really looking forward to this game for the answer to those questions.

  13. First impressions:  We keep Austin because Holmes and Harrison are not ready for Week 1.  Delano Howell's injury is serious enough that the Colts think no one will claim him; worst case scenario, he is done with football. The Colts believe Reitz and Nixon will be healed soon.  We are very thin at safety.
