  1. How so? We had s proven winning QB and instead went with an unproven college QB...

Jim Harbaugh 1997, the year before they drafted Peyton Manning? Look up the stats, look up the colts record when they picked Peyton Manning, look that Jim Harbaugh was the starter for the colts the year they had the worst record in the NFL. It's not like Harbaugh was exactly playing well or anything. You can't compare Jim Harbaugh to Peyton Manning.

  2. Actually, ramblinwreck, he's right. The Colts have released these guys, in a rebuilding mode stage. They ain't coming back, unless they want dirt nothing, which I don't think they would want especially now. This team is in a rebuilding stage, so keeping old players just interferes with that process. I agree with jskinzz; I've learnt to not hold grudge against people, plus he's right in this situation. :shake:

Where have I said he is wrong? I already stated it seems like the colts are trying to rebuild the team, what's so hard for jskinzz to understand about that? I said I don't think that's what they should do, and there still is a chance they could go the other direction of reloading. There's a reason why I said I wasn't wrong.

  3. +1

I am happy to see that the FO has finally been cured of the "Bob Sanders Syndrome". I understand loyalty and love of players, but if they can't produce you can't keep throwing money at them. Would you keep paying someone you employed who only worked half the time or hire someone who would be there everyday and be more productive?

Yes, but your argument is about productivity. If someone is more productive than Bob Sanders, then you play him. The reason we kept Bob Sanders was because he was extremely productive while he was on the field.

  4. How about this? You typed a short-story on something has next to no chance of happening. I guess that makes it fiction.

Clever too about not living on a beach.

Seriously - in your heart of hearts, you don't really believe those guys were cut just to be brought back. This is just the ramblings of a frustrated fan but not something you truly believe, right?

Thank you I though it was pretty clever :)

Hmmm... it's not like it took me hours to write or anything, just 10-15 minutes.

I don't know what the colts will do. It seems like they want to shred the team and do a total rebuild when they could just reload the team and prepare for the future instead, which makes a lot more sense to me to do. It's not out of the realm of possibility that they could be brought back, it just takes the colts realizing that the other option is better and not being stubborn.

  5. I have seen a lot of negative posts about the recent roster moves/cuts and don't understand fully why. These players were great in their time with the Colts and I hope them the best in their future, but they were all necessary decisions/moves with all of these players on a steady decline in their careers.

The players we cut and explainations of why I believe it's the right decision:

Dallas Clark-Out of his prime and had tons of drops last year, I dunno if you got a chance to watch most of the games but I repeatedly saw Dallas dropping very catchable balls. Also Jacob Tamme fits our "rebuild" he's younger and has more potential. Dallas looked great with Peyton throwing to him, but who doesn't?

Gary Brackett-Old, out of his prime and was injured for most of last season(played in 1 game this year). We have Pat Angerer who adapted into the MLB position great and is one of my favorite players. Angerer lead the NFL in tackles for most of the year(finished 4th overall). He has a lot of potential and I could see him being a defensive star very soon.

Joseph Addai- Out of his prime, hasn't shown much since his rookie year aka 06 SB year. Struggled with Injuries a lot too. Donald Brown showed up near the end of the season and showed more promise than I can ever remember. I hope he can continue to get better and shows up like a lot of fans expected. Delone Carter, our rookie RB last year showed potential also.

    Curtis Painter- Lol

Melvin Bullitt-Hurt for most of last year and the year before, played in 6 games over the past 2 years. I loved watching Bullitt when he was on the field, but he gets hurt too often and too easily like Bob and we can't afford to pay a guy to sit on the bench every year.

Dwight Freeney(trade talks and speculation)-With Mathis signed, freeney isn't a need but would be a luxury. I would love to see the sack duo back together and stay together but I don't know if paying him makes sense for our "rebuilding". I've seen much more out of Mathis lately than Freeney, I would much rather keep Mathis.

Jeff Saturday-He has not been cut but I believe this is the next to come. He is near retirement age and there is no reason for the Colts to keep him. The Colts have also recently picked up a Free Agent center from TCU, Jake Kirkpatrick, received the Rimington Trophy(given to best center in the nation in college). I can see Saturday being considered in that package deal with Peyt haha.

Irsay is not turning his back or being too harse, this is a business. With cutting these guys we have freed up a lot of cap space and will be receiving more draft picks due to it, yes I understand they won't be that high of picks, but they are something. All of those players released have had injury problems as of lately and all are out of their prime, on the decline. To rebuild you need players that will get better, not get worse. We will have a very young team next year, but one that will grow together. I love the moves that Irsay/Grigs/Pags are making and hope fans don't take it too personal/emotional. Change is good, especially when the majority of our team was past the primes of their career(even Peyton). The Colts and the fans have been lucky to have a cast of veterans/players stick together for most of their careers with Peyt at lead and I will always remember these players for the success we had. We are moving to a new Era. Look forward to the future and cheer on your team through thick and thin, don't give up because of some offseason moves, it's the NFL, it happens every year.

    Go Colts!

Jacob Tamme does not have more potential than Dallas Clark. He's small for a TE at 236 lbs. so that limits his effectiveness when it comes to blocking.

  6. Immature? Perhaps. But spot on.

You typed a novel on something that absolutely no chance of happening. All those players are gone and you know what? Rightfully so. Their time has come and gone and the financial cost of those players came nowhere near their productivity.

The Colts have a dire need for a QB and cannot pass on Luck. They have to take him. The Skins trade does not impact that.

A novel lol? I hope your kidding considering I wrote less than a page of words. Thank you for being concerned though.

  7. I mean no offense, but why are you here then?

There are still guys like Philip Wheeler, Dwight Freeney, Robert Mathis, and Antoine Bethea left, right haha?

Anyways, like I said in my post, I don't think the damage is permanent yet. I mean, we've released Peyton Manning and 4 key guys, with a couple of them being injury prone. That's it. Who's to say that you can't resign Peyton Manning and a couple of them or maybe all of them? None of our key veterans are on other teams yet, they're still out there to be resigned. I don't want the colts to mess what they have up while they still have the chance to fix it. That's basically what this post is for.

  8. Bradys injury was totally different. He had a knee injury that wasnt serious. Peytons surgery left him unable to even grip a football. I grieved then moved on i think its time a lot others did the same. Saying the loyalty wasnt returned is rediculous. There is a mural that is still up that begs to differ. The fact is he still isnt health n that was the deciding factor in whether or not hed be here. I wish he was and will reminisce on the glory days but now its time to fully embrace luck(assuming we draft him but im sure we will).

It sure seems that Peyton Manning is becoming very healthy with the recent video and reports about guys saying he is looking really good.

  9. no player is worth 3 1st round draft picks. RG3 has to become the best qb in the history of the nfl for this trade to be win-win. once again the redskins will be bottom feeders in the east.

Well, some teams rely on free agency more than others. If I remember correctly, the Redskins are a team that uses free agency to fill their team needs. If you have cap space, then you can use free agency instead of just the draft too improve you team. That's something the Cleveland Browns could do if they trade for the #1 pick. They would have to give up a lot of high draft picks, but they have the cap space to sign some quality free agents to help make their team better.

  10. My point is were fans, we let emotion get in the way of logic most of the time. The men who own NFL franchises are business men 1st and foremost and the men they employ are business men who most of the time have no emotional ties to the the players they sign. They do what they think is in the best interest of their respective franchises. Sometimes they make the wrong decisions but most of the time they do not, which is why they are successful and rich. Most, if not all fans would run the franchises into the ground in 5 yrs. or less because they can not seperate emotions from business and I, for one, am certainly glad that Irsay has not been listening to fans on the decisions he has had to make because like I've said before, we would be stuck with a bunch of has beens and never will be's.

Your right, most fans probably wouldn't know how to run an NFL franchise. My point was that NFL executives aren't the complete geniuses that some people make them out to be. They make mistakes too. If you separate emotion from the issue, I still think that keeping Peyton Manning and trading the #1 pick is the best situation.

And I still would like to know how you get a job in the NFL... how exactly do you become a scout or something like that?

  11. Yes, because im sure some dude posting on an internet forum is experienced enough and so enlightened to the inner workings of the NFL that they should really be taking advice from you, me, or any other dufus posting on this or any other forum.

You seem to think that people who work in the NFL are extremely smart and always know what they're doing. Let me ask you, how do you get a job in the NFL? It's a very limited labor pool that they choose from. Just because someone doesn't work in the NFL doesn't mean that they could do a better job, whether that be me, you, or anyone else out there. Labor competition is the name of the game.

  12. I dont think its far fetched to think we could have gotten four firsts and a second or three firsts and three seconds for Andrew.

And theres no way to compare our team to our SB team. Do we even have any impact players left besides Mathis Bethea and possibly Freeney?

We practicly have the same team, and it is probably better than the roster we had in 2010 when we went 10-6 and made the playoffs. We had a very good draft in 2011 which brought in talented players like Anthony Castonzo, Ben Ijalana, and Drake Nevis, with good players in Delone Carter and Chris Rucker as well.

  13. I think the Redskin trade proves though that while the Colts could certainly have gotten alot of 1st round picks they wouldnt have been very useful in terms of quickly reloading. While the picks are mostly made up of 1st rounders they are spread out over 3 seasons. Even if you are overly optimistic and assume each 1st rounder fully develops in one full season youre talking 4 seasons until the potential of the trade is realized.

The only trade that even made any kind of sense for reloading semi-quickly would have been with the Browns (assuming they would give up both in this draft and another next season). There is no guarantee Cleveland would have even agreed to such a deal either. Otherwise we could have expected a deal similar to what the Rams got with probably a few more 2nd rounders or 3rd rounders thrown in.

That's why I didn't speculate on what we would get in a trade of the #1 pick. Cleveland would be a great trading partner, we could get 2 first rounders this year with one being very high, maybe a 2nd rounder this year, and that's just 2012 alone. 3 high draft picks is quickly reloading, and then you might get a proven player in the trade or more high draft picks in the future.

  14. what if luck turns out to be a manning or elway or some mixure in between? We would look like fools to trade that pick. What if he really is a future hall of famer and wins us 2 Super Bowls let's say in 4 years. We can watch him mature as an NFL QB just like we

did with Manning. It was a fun 14 year ride.

If both sides turn out well, then it works out well for both teams. If Andrew Luck becomes an elite quarterback, great. If our draft picks turn out, that is great as well! We would benefit more if both sides of the deal turn out equally because those new draft picks can play over the next few years with Peyton Manning while Andrew Luck can't.

I wanted to wait before this is all over before I said anything concrete on what has happened lately, but I hope the colts front office, namely Jim Irsay, sees what the St. Louis Rams reportedly will get for trading the #2 pick to the Washington Redskins:

2012 - #6 overall pick and their 2nd round pick

    2013 - 1st round pick

    2014 - 1st round pick

That's 3 first round picks and a 2nd rounder, for just moving down 4 spots from #2 to #6 in this years draft. That's incredible.

I'm sure most people on here will just say that I'm wrong, but the damage in Indianapolis is not permanent yet. We've released Peyton Manning, Dallas Clark, Joseph Addai and a few other good veterans. That doesn't mean that we can't resign them though. We might have released a few of them anyways because some of them were getting paid a little too much for being injured too often, namely Gary Brackett and Melvin Bullit, while resigning some of them later. It's not like this team is devoid of talent, we went to the Super Bowl 2 years ago, with a lot of the same players. Add in the incredible amount of draft picks that we could get in a trade of the #1 pick, and our team would not only have a bright present, but also a bright future.

I'm not going to speculate too much on what we would get in return, but it would more than likely be more than what the Rams got for Robert Griffin III. Now that he has been traded for, that leaves 1 top ranked quarterback left, which is Andrew Luck. Teams could also start to get more desperate now that Robert Griffin III is off the table. I just don't want the colts to mess what they have up, I think this team still has it in them. It would be great to get Peyton Manning, Reggie Wayne, Jeff Saturday, Dwight Freeney, and the other guys at least another Super Bowl win before they retire.

  16. Yes, but you can choose to focus on Colts players.

When I started liking Peyton Manning and the other guys, I didn't start liking them because they were colts players. I started liking them because they earned it, they were stand up guys with great values who were fun to watch.

  17. Every player rises from obscurity when they perform well on the field. This is your chance to get to know a new set of players, who will be building a name for themselves, who have their own story to tell. You won't be lost for long. You will like getting to know them and sharing in their success on and off the field.

Hmmm... you can do that for every player in the league though, not just colts players.
