  1. The difference between Bill and Clyde was the Clyde didn't effectively have complete control over how the organization was run. You can't demote a guy like that, you have to either fire him or pacify him.

I'm not going to play revisionist history and try and claim that Bill wasn't good at his job or a reason for our success, but the last few years he really left us a hot mess to deal with. Which if your an NFL GM, creating such a hot mess is most likely going to get you fired. Irsay was completely justified in firing him.

As to Chris, I don't see his phone ringing off the hook anytime soon. That's just me though, could be wrong.

I wanted to demote Chris Polian! Not Bill Polian lol!

Since Chris isn't the top man, he could be demoted, and his father runs the team so he would probably accept it.

  2. I bet the Texans want to drive the price up for the Titans now. I have a hunch Peyton would be serious about playing in TN. I don't think the Texans should mess with what they have either. It would look too much like Favre to the Vikings if Peyton went to Houston and we know how that ended up.

With that being said if Peyton plays for an AFC South rival I will likely start to seriously dislike him. A lot.

This statement seems a little hypocritical to me. Your not a Peyton Manning fan if you do that. If your a fan of him, then you'll support him no matter where he goes. The Texan's give him a great place to have a chance to win, so why wouldn't you want that for him?

  3. Well IMO playing for the Texans is not what's best for him. He should go win with a more neutral team, not the Colts rival. If he played for Arizona, Denver, or Miami, his Colts fans wont hold any hard feelings. Everyone can get behind those choices.

Peyton was basically forced out of Indianapolis it seems. It's not like he pulled a Lebron James where most people in Cleveland are mad at him. Colts fans love Peyton Manning, and they would get to see him in Indianapolis once a year.

  4. Yeah this. Besides you don't demote someone like that. You either keep them happy or destroy them completely. Demoting him just spreads the seed of discontent through the organization.

Debatable, considering their were people in the organization that were reported to be unhappy with Chris getting promoted to GM. Why did we demote Clyde Christensen? We could have fired him, but it was more valueable to keep him on the coaching staff than do that, so we made him go down from O-coordinator to WR's coach I think.

If Chris Polian can't get a quality job somewhere else, then the smart decision for him is to take a demotion and go back to where he was successful at the time, or when the colts had success while he operated that position.

  5. because it's not I gave you a FACT to back up why it's not. Peyton Manning movements have been documented since he left Indianapolis. He has not meet with the Colts and does not plan to meet with the Colts. Unless he was going to meet with the Colts there is no way he can a sign contract with them to come back here. It's as much speculating as me saying the sun is going to come up tomorrow. There has been NOTHING to even suggest the Colts are even thinking about bringing Peyton Manning back. There are plunty of things that says the Colts are moving on from the Manning era though. Gutting the team and taking 30 million in cap hits would be one of them. If you want to claim the Colts are trying to bring him back you need to provide some proof that they are thinking about doing because there is nothing to suggest that they are. The only thing you have is that you want them to bring him back. That's not proof that's not even a theory it's just what you want to see happen and myself as well as others are telling you it's not going to happen.

It's over Peyton Manning is gone he's isn't coming back here till it's time for him to retire. If you want to think Peyton is coming back and Irsay is just sitting at home regretting cutting him and trying to plot to get him back to Indianapolis go a head and do it. You are just setting yourself up to be disapointed when it doesn't happen though.

I would love to see the Colts announce they are trading Freeney to Vikings for the third over all pick just because I want it to happen doesn't mean there is any real chance in the world of it happening. So I am not running around saying the Colts should do it or suggesting that Irsay is trying to figure out a way for it to happen because there is zero chance it does happen.

Hmmm... I think you overcomplicating this argument.

I have not claimed the colts are trying to bring Peyton Manning and the other veterans back. Why do you keep saying that? This is the last time I'm going to say it to you. I said the colts should resign Peyton Manning, their key veterans, and trade the #1 pick. I'm not saying they will, I don't even think they will as of right now. They still could do it though and they should do it, it just doesn't seem like it will happen.

  6. well personally 10.00 an hour is reasonable considering more then half the US population DOESNT make 90 million dollars just with a signature. but seriously I know football is a business and they make insane amounts of money in that business FROM US, Im quite sure he could of spared a few dollars and he still would have been able to feed his family unless hes that bad at handling money, he followed the money thats all he did. I heard he turned down 100 million at one point, well what about that 90 he signed for while injured around the time of one of his surgeries, dont worship the man, he is just a man , support the team, players will come and go

Peyton gets paid a lot of money because his job is in HIGH DEMAND, and he is one of the best if not the best at doing that job. He could have taken more money than he got because for some illogical reason, Jim Irsay kept wanting to give him more than Peyton wanted to take.

Do you know how much money NFL owners make? How much NFL teams are worth? You act like Peyton is the bad guy because he earns the market price salary for his job.

  7. If you actually belive a Polian would accept a 'demotion', you've not been paying much attention over the last decade. None whatsoever.

Please use first names, because I don't know much about Chris Polian's personality. I definitely don't think Bill Polian would accept being demoted, but that's not what I said.

  8. No but his actions are not the actions of a man that is sitting at home going oh why did I cut Peyton let me go see if I can get him back!

You are the one asking others for proof that irsay isnt doing that then when given some you don't like you dismiss it so where is you proof irsay is doing that? Don't ask others for proof to defend their view points if you have none to defend yours.

You are just throwing a wild theory out there with nothing to back it up that's called false hope. Again to back my point up the colts and Peyton haven't meet since he was released and that can be proven because Peyton's time since leaving the colts has been documented. Without talking to each other you can't get a new contract done. That is not speculation that is a fact. Now if you want to keep pushing the idea that some how Peyton is going to come back please provide some proof things are headed that way.

Does irsay miss Peyton or wish things could have played out differently? I am sure he probably does. With that said I don't think he regrets and there is proof that I just gave you that he doesn't regret it to the point he's trying to bring him back.

You don't seem to want to admit that you are speculating... I have no problem admitting that I don't know what the colts are going to do...

Double standard? I ask for proof because people state things as facts that aren't facts. You ask for proof of things that I state as opinions. I don't know how you don't see that.

My "wild theory," as you like to call it, is what I think the colts should do, see the difference? I don't base that off of just emotion or false hope as you seem to think. A healthy Peyton Manning with a reloaded team is in a good position to win a lot of games and possibly Super Bowls. That team will still be around once Peyton retires, so the next quarterback, whenever we get him whether that's in the first round or as an undrafted free agent, will have a good foundation to start on.

  9. I give BP tons of credit. No doubt. But I don't think that negates the enormous question marks about recent contract structures and cap issues, created by the Polians (presumably Chris?). Nor do I see that it eliminates any credit Irsay deserves for the teams successes either.

Unfortunately, how do you imagine Irsay could have fired Chris Polian, and kept Bill? My speculation has been that BP would have been retained, but there was no way he could justify staying while watching his son get sacked, so they both had to go.

Remember, I said demoted Chris Polian, not fired. Irsay could have talked to Bill and said, "Hey, our front office hasn't done a good job of drafting and structuring contracts lately. With Chris being the GM, he is responsible for that. I think we should move him back down to scouting director (or whatever his position was back in 2005-2006 or some time around there)." Bill wouldn't like it very much, but he would love it a whole lot more than seeing his son get fired. Even Bill has to see that the colts haven't had the same quality of front office management over the past couple of years.

  10. How can you sign with someone if you aren't talking to them? You are holing on to false hope but if you wish to do so please do but don't ask others to offer up proof if you have no proof to back up your point. I at least have something that most people would call proof that you are dismissing as speculation because you dont like it. Peyton's time since leaving the colts has been documented so there have been no secret meetings to bring him back all one had to do eas watch that presser to see its over.

Your are still speculating on Jim Irsay's actions, you don't know what he is thinking though, that's why it's called speculating.

And why do you keep asking for proof? I haven't said that I know what he is doing or anything naive like that, I'm just saying what I think the colts should do.

  11. I dont know if I buy this.

If Peyton really thought he was coming back, he was the only one. Sources close to him said he would play in 2012, but not in Indy right around super bowl time. I think this is something Mort is floating via Peyton to make Irsay look worse.

Sure.... I find it so hard to believe that Peyton Manning thought he was going to come back to the colts /sarcasm...

Now you just hating on Peyton. Even if the story is meant to make Irsay look bad considering that Irsay wasn't very nice and respectful to him at times, I still think it's the truth.

  12. By all rights he should have been able to stay.

No reason to gut a franchise that was in the Super Bowl two years ago, because you can draft a highly rated quarterback prospect.

That is probably the worst part, we already have a pretty good team with Peyton Manning and good coaching, but add in trading the #1 pick and cost effective free agents... The colts could have been really good this year and in the future. They still can resign Peyton and their other veteran free agents, but it doesn't seem like they want to move in that direction. It feels like a waste of what we have if they choose to go into rebuilding mode.

  13. Sooo wait a minute... some of yall don't want to give Bill Polian credit for the winning over the past decade, but it seems yall want to give credit to Jim Irsay?

Gosh... haters gonna hate a Bill Polian, a hall of fame GM who should have kept his job... I would have probably demoted Chris Polian, but I definitely wouldn't have fired Bill.

  14. No Snyder is desperate to get a franchise qb like a good 10-12 teams in the league right now, there are 5 pieces that every team needs to be solid at on both side of the ball to win championships. QB your field general, WR your play maker, LT your blind side protector and on defense you add DE your pass rusher and CB another playmaker without those pieces no team can be successful.

Sorry, haha, but you can win with different pieces. You don't have to have those 5 pieces to win championships, you can have different ones.

  15. he's already regretting it. If he wants fans to stop hating him, then he should spill his guts on the true strength of peytons arm and the truth about if Peyton would restructure his contract after the 28 mil wasn't paid.

He should fly out to peyton, say, "I jacked up big time." restructure and trade that freakin #1 pick

I think he should resign Peyton and trade the #1 pick still. It may be unlikely, but it is far from impossible.

  16. I'm not trolling you, and if you really don't like what I'm doing to you, I can't stop replying to your posts in this thread. But I need to respond to this:

Jacob Tamme isn't as talented as Clark, but not only is he 5 years younger, but he's just as productive as Clark. Tamme was great with PM throwing to him, but you could say the same about Dallas Clark. Tamme is also cheaper. When Tamme came in this year, he looked better on the field and was running much better routes than Clark. Clark was lost this year and it showed he's not that great without Manning.

The QB spot on the team is the most important position on the team, and it's good you understand that. Now, is it better to have a great overall team with a bad QB? No. Their have been SB champs that have won with subpar quarterbacks. But, a great defense does matter if you want to make a run. With that being said, the Colts are working on their defense. Just hired a defensive minded head coach, changed their defensive scheme, they have a ton of young talent and they're probably going to use some high draft picks on the defense. I should point it out though, the Colts for many years, went to the playoffs with subpar defenses and a great QB. Now this was a phenomenal QB in Manning, but it goes to show you it's possible. The Colts are not the only team like this, the Pats in recent years were like this. I'm one of the people that stands behind that logic of offense wins games and defense wins championships. I wrote an article about that and I even posted it here, go look for it. Going forward, I rather the Colts have a sure bet at the QB spot then take it from there. Having a great QB is a great starting point. Build up the D then help him out.

They say he's looking good, but is he looking Peyton Manning good? No! He hasn't played for a year, you don't think he'll have a little rust. Look at the 2008 season where it took him 5-6 games to find his groove after that knee surgery. No player can shake an injury like this off.

No haha, I don't mind you responding, I just don't see how you think my points are wrong.

    http://www.washingto...C95sR_blog.html

Archie Manning said Peyton looked like Peyton. I don't know if he's back to Peyton Manning good yet, but he seems to be getting a lot healthier and better lately.

And the year Peyton had to shake off rust after coming back from knee surgery? I would love Peyton to have another year like that, he won the MVP award and the colts went 12-4, except for losing in the playoffs.

  17. Why is that the fact Manning "refused" to restructure or even agree to sign for less keep getting lost in this equation? Manning could be a Colt "if he wanted to be a Colt" .......

Irsay is not the heavy here, and Luck has absolutely NO pressure on him at all. This team is in total rebuild mode. Peyton wanted NO part of it, and I don't blame him. But to say he was "kicked to the curb" for Luck is totally wrong. Manning's health, contract, and Colt's draft position were all factors in Irsay "reevaluating" Manning's status with the team.

Peyton is getting a lot of hugz and kissz here but lets not lose sight of the fact that "HE had/has the option to play wherever he wanted/wants" And Indy was not even a consideration. And for obvious reasons.

How do you know the Peyton refused to restructure his contract?

  18. OMG! Half the things you say are wrong!! That's your opinion on Manning, and who knows Luck may come in and play better than Manning. Your first point is something we'll see at the end of next year, but the point is Luck is healthy and Manning isn't. I'm not saying this, but Manning may not never be the same again, and it's going to be very different to play in a different scheme. Now, this is where you are 100% wrong:

Dallas Clark has a heir and his name is Jacob Tamme. Jacob Tamme was the most productive tight end in the 2nd half of the 2010 season. He was great and as productive as Clark. He may not be as skillful as Clark, but if he puts up the same numbers at a cheaper price, who cares who's out there. Clark being gone opens up so much space, which is great going forward. Tamme is performing at the same level as Clark. Melvin Bullitt wasn't that great to start with, but you're right there is no one on this roster that is as good as him. Im starting to think that even if he were on the roster the Colts would spend a pick on a S which means that he has a heir and a probably replacement. Now that he's gone, the Colts will definitely draft a S. We have a heir for him, just not a proven one but one that is probably better than Bullitt. Agree on Addai, but the injuries are effecting him when he's healthy. He goes through long stretches and then comes back with no practice which makes him bad in games and gets him put on the bench a lot. A 2006-2007 Addai is the best running back on the team, and even with Addai healthy, the team was moving in a new direction with the emergence of Donald Brown and the drafting of Delone Carter.

Trading Andrew Luck (essentially) is trading the future at the quarterback position. You could have the most talented freagin offense, but with a bad QB, you're not going anywhere. Now you may say that the Colts would draft someone after Manning retires, but odds are, it wont be with the first overall pick and it wont be a guy the same caliber of Andrew Luck. Look at the Redskins, Jets and 49ers. Alex Smith is getting better however. Look at that talented team the Redskins have: a solid defense and an okay offense, and all that's missing the QB. Now it's looking like it's too late with Fletcher and Landry on their way out. RG3 is going to have a tough time trying to save that team. Sanchez has a good running back, a good O-line and 2 good receivers, but he still Fs up that offense. The quarterback spot is the most important position on that team, and long term stability is better than short term success. If it takes the QB 3 years to be good and be good for 10 years, that's always better than a great QB for 3 years. It could make us revolve around that good QB. Andrew Luck won't be as good as Peyton Manning, but he will be good in this league and will be good for 12 years. Manning will be (who knows) great for 3-4 years. Is it really worth spending 28M on a QB that we haven't seen throw besides a 27 second video. That's way too little to make a 28M dollar decision on.

So, to answer your question, I think you're saying you're facts are right... too bad you're standpoint is wrong. (I'm genuinely not trying to make fun of you, but trying to open your eyes). As my 7th and 8th grade teacher told me when I was younger, a lot of crap is still crap, and crap in a pink dress is still crap. All you're facts supporting your wrong point, doesn't make your point better, it doesn't help it at all. 40 x 0 = 0. I'm sorry but you're wrong.

Come on Andy246... I'm starting to think that your just trolling me or something haha. My points are correct! Jacob Tamme can put up great numbers with Peyton Manning throwing too him, but he isn't as talented as Dallas Clark. He's a good backup who can come in and play well, but he won't have the same impact as Dallas Clark would.

It is important to have a good quarterback, but it is more important to have a great team. The quarterback position may be the most important position on the team, but the defense is more important than the offense. You can list good teams with suspect quarterback play and I can list subpar teams with good quarterback play. It still holds true that offense wins games, and defense wins championships. I've said that way to many times lately on this website, but it proves the point very well.

And of course you wouldn't base your decision just off a short video. We don't know the exact information that the colts have, but there are guys like Tom Moore (that's what someone on here said) and Archie Manning saying he is looking good.

  19. Ok Im sorry, let me rephrase that: You Are Wrong! I have nothing against you and I like you, but there is no chance they come back to Indy. They've packed their bags, cleaned out their lockers and letting their agents receive calls (according to my LS). Their time in Indy is done, and you could even look at the roster, almost all of those players have heirs. It's not likely they'll bring em back except for cheap cheap cheap, which is highly unlikely. Yes they are in a rebuilding mode, and several things take place. It is completely starting a new chapter which means many vets leave. Look at the Viks, look at the great 90's Cowboys in the later years.

Now, about you're theory. So you're one of those people that believes that the best bet for the Colts is to make a run for the title now, which even with the most talent is tough to do... cough cough Phily, cough cough Jets. Yeah, let's milk 3 more years out of Peyton who's just coming off neck surgery. I love the guy and I wanted him to stay as a fan, but as a writer, looking more into it, it made the most sense to let him go. All these releases were good moves. It's not like these moves came out of nowhere, it wasn't expected to happen, but look how no one was shocked, and look how no one wil be shocked to see Reggie and Pierre go too. It's a new chapter buddy and it looks like you're still stuck on the other page. It's time to move on my friend

    Lol, I am not wrong!

Too me, it is plain as day that we should keep a healthy Peyton Manning and trade the #1 pick. Peyton Manning seems to be getting healthier and healthier lately, from the video and other people saying he is looking really good. Dallas Clark and Melvin Bullit do not have heirs who can perform at the same level as them, and Joseph Addai also would still be the #1 running back when he is healthy.

Trading the #1 pick isn't just for a 3-4 year run or until Peyton retires, it also gives us several talented players to build the future on.
