  1. I am one of the doubters but at the same time I am happy he played well, same for Brazill. I have no ego here, I hope he becomes what his fans said about him because it's for the good of the Colts.

Yes....D-Rog and Lavon Brazil....if the coaching staff lets them play, will make it hard for any team to defend this team through the air. The running game then needs to be functional, but that's another story.....but with a receiving core of Rogers, Brazil, Hilton and Reggie to stabilize things, wow....the potential is very exciting.

  2. A few things to keep in mind:

The plan originally was to have Werner only learn the Rush LB spot and be Mathis' backup except on long yardage situations where both Werner and Mathis would line up at the ends and rush the passer.  However the injury to Lawrence Sidbury in training camp ruined that plan and they had to have him learn the Sam LB role as well and more often than not he's been spelling Walden instead of Mathis.  So he's primarily been playing the Sam LB role except in long yardage situations so he has other responsibilities than just rushing the passer.  He's learning 2 new positions as well as adjusting to the speed of the NFL.  he's also been injured ONCE...that's not "alot".

Another thing to keep in mind, both Dion Jordan and Jarvis Jones were selected before Werner.  they're able to rush the passer far more often than Werner.  They both have numbers similar to Werner.  Jordan has 2 sacks (but he's a 4-3 DE) and Jones has only 1.  Pass rushers can take time to develop and get used to the speed of the NFL and being out for the foot injury didn't help.

That may be true, but I never once saw anyone except Polian come up with ANY excuses for the poor play of Hughes. He was attacked like 99.9% of the time by the fans. But I see all these terrific reasons why this guy isnt performing. Its just interesting to see how that can happen. Two Defensive top picks...both busts, but only ONE gets trashed by the fans and media. Things that make you go....Hmmmmm.

  3. I have to agree that Pagano looks like he is in over his head. I think The Ownership is going to give him more time than he deserves and that's bad for us fans because of his affliction with Leukemia, but a Leader has to be, unfortunately, a Physical presence, too. Any weakness is a detriment in his ability to lead. And hes shown mental weakness, too. Not having the answers to the teams chronic problems is a weakness that is picked up by the team as a whole. And finally, if you were brought in with great Defensive as your calling card as coach and your team is continuously getting outplayed on the defensive side of the football, it says one thing. You are NOT able to be the Leader that this team needs. Love him as a man for beating Leukemia, but as a Head-coach on an NFL team, he needs leadership training.

  4. The trenches is whats wrong with the Colts,as well. Hard-nosed, dominant football that the Colts want to play, in order to build this Monster they want to build has to be done in the offensive and defensive lines of a team. And that requires going and getting or coaching/developing that kind of mind-set into the players. Then, with that mindset firmly established, the results have to be demanded by the coaching staff. That is obviously not happening. Until that changes, things will look alot like it has been so far the past 4 weeks. Reggie Wayne cant fix that. Its a mindset

  5. People underestimate how much good defense is a mental thing. The players are good players, but a tentative, unsure mindset can make them look pretty incompetent. When the Colts took out the contenders, (49ers, Seahawks, Broncos) the players mentality was one of confidence. But, when things started going south, no coach stepped up to address the mental approach to the players properly. Pagano and the defensive coaching staff look clueless as to why seemingly dominant performers one week keep going downhill week after week. His inability to right the ship has the players confidence at a low level, since everyone knows they have to look for their leaders for direction. If the leaders have no direction to provide, the confidence level of the players goes down, leading to poor execution. I've lead men in combat situations in the Military and believe me....the mental aspects are the foundation of the answers to right the ship. And Pagano doesnt seem to have the knowledge of how to make that happen, unfortunately.

  6. Its really interesting to see how no one criticizes or berates this guy in ANY way like the way it was done with Jerry Hughes when he was a rook...this guy has been just as much a NON-factor as he was, AND hes injured alot. Two qualities that spell First round BUST all over it. But...he gets a pass...very interesting.

  7. If they are all healthy, then I dont see the long pass plays that have happened recently being duplicated. Our secondary is very talented and having three of them injured  was sure to have some repercussions. With them in there, the Colts could get back to the dominating defense they were playing during the 49er and Jaguar games....

  8. Unfortunately, Griff Whalen was overrated. I was even hoping he would be like a Wes Welker or Danny Woodhead for the team, but he just doesnt have the ball skills, speed and football savvy to get separation and do any real damage. Catch and fall tactics dont usually get you employed in the NFL very long and he was a specialist at that.
