  1. I would wager that we will resign Bradshaw and run with a RB Corps of

    Richardson

    Bradshaw

    Ballard

    Rainey

My reasoning behind using four roster spots on RBs

Richardson is our future workhorse back. We spent a 1st round pick on him, he's not going anywhere.

Bradshaw/Ballard- These two guys both function in the same role, but both are coming off of injuries. I think we use both in a complement role to each other. I also think that Bradshaw's experience is well worth the money, and he can help Ballard and Richardson both mature into a tandem  as Marshawn Lynch and Ben Tate.

Rainey- Best Kick Returner on roster, due to his quick injury his contract will also be cheap. His role will be to replace Brown in the lineup as well as a scat back.

  2. Watching the Huber play, the hit was unnecessary. The block could have been thrown in a much less... I'l say malicious way and the returner still would've been through the hole. It is unfortunate that the NFL has to turn to making rules to eliminate the "flagrant" fouls, but the fines and yardage penalties don't seem to be working.

  3. Colts 2014 Roster

    QB: Luck, Hasslebeck

    RB: Richardson, Ballard, Bradshaw, Rainey

    FB: Havili

WR: Wayne, Rogers, Hilton, Brazil, DHB, Drafted Player

    TE: Fleener, Allen, Doyle

O-Line: Castonzo, Thomas, FA Center, Thornton, Cherilus, Reitz, Linkenbach, Holmes, FA Stopgap Guard on 1-2 year deal

D-Line: Redding, Chapman, Hughes, Franklin, RJF, Drafted D-Lineman

LBs: Mathis, Werner, Sheppard, Freeman, FA LB, McNary, Adongo, Walden

CBs: Davis, Toler, Butler, FA CB, Gordy, Vaughn, Drafted CB

S: Landry, Bethea, Howell, S. Brown

2 Random Trades/Drafted/FAs that Grigson worked out

    K; Vinatieri

    P: McAfee

    LS: Overton

Should be 53. Let's see how close I was in August.

  4. satale- give the reins over to holmes and see what he can do plus it saves us 4 mil as his contract would only cost us 1 mil in dead money

bradshaw- more of a crowded back ordeal as I expect us to resign brown to something like 3 years 9 mil.

bethea- as sad as I am to write this, I think his time is up as hes just not the same player he use to be. hes an average tackler and his coverage skills have diminished. I would be essentic if we can get byrd in the FA as I cant see him playing under the tag again and it doesnt seem like the bills want to pay him

dhb-I was his biggest supporter and yet he really is useless. I dont understand you can have all the tools he has and cant use them. maybe hes kept just for depth purposes, but if rogers emerges like some here think he will then dhb is gone.

mcglynn or reitz- both are FAs and I can't see us signing both of them back.

mathews or moala- honestly I cant see us signing either of them for some reason the team likes mathews go figure.

franklin- hes been good, but I think he was just a one year fill in for chapman and hughes

angerer or connor- money is on connor being gone. for some reason the coaching staff doesnt like him.

vaughn- I think sheldon price on the PS will replace him

Satele- Gone. For the love of all things good, get rid of that guy. I have yelled my throat raw watching the other teams constantly double a-gap blitz over Satele.

Bradshaw- Keep. He's a 1k runner, been to two super bowls. His knowledge can help Ballard and Richardson a lot in the next year or two. Remember the 2007 NY Giants with their Earth, Wind and Fire running game? That is what I would like to see between the three RBs.

Bethea- Keep. He's a good compliment to Landry's more physical play style and he has been a mainstay of the Colts defense for a long time. Yeah, he's had a rough year but he's also been asked to do things he traditionally hasn't been asked to do, such as cover in man defense, etc.

DHB- Keep. He's cheap, and he's a solid #3-4 WR. I would not mind if our Receiving Corps looked like #1/Slot: Wayne #2 TY #3/#1 Da'Rick Rogers #4 DHB #5 Brazill.

McGlynn and Reitz- Gone, if we can fill the gaps, though I would rather keep one of them and jettison Linkenbach if possible.

Matthews adn Moala- Gone. Neither have really done anything, and our D-Line consisting of RJF, Chapman, Hughes, and Redding is a-ok by me.

Franklin- Keep for the right price. You can never have too many D-Linemen, and Franklin does manage to produce fairly well. He's also a veteran mind in the locker room to compliment Redding for the younger men.

Angerer or Connor- Trade and release. Maybe get a 5th (wishing) or later (read: 7th) pick for Angerer to a team that works the 4-3 defense which is where his home is. He's not solid as a 3-4 Inside linebacker, Conner won't bring anything in trade bait, so release him and fill the spot with either another linebacker or maybe a CB/Safety type player akin to Tyrann Mathieu

Vaughn- Keep. While most Colts fan grumble when he's on the field, he's a cheap stopgap player that has shown flashes of brilliance through the muck and mire.

    My two cents.

  5. I'm not a Trent Richardson apologist, and I've been very hard on Donald Brown for his career with the Colts, however I believe the issues with the interior of the offensive line are becoming too much for Richardson to deal with. Obviously, it's going to be hard to gain any yards when you are supposed to run behind the guard, and Satele/McGlynn are both sitting on the ground after the ball is snapped.

I think the issue is not his vision, not his skill set and definitely not his work ethic but simply his size getting in the way. Why is Donald Brown gaining so many yards? He's small. Even with two-three bum linemen, he can initially get lost behind the line and squeak through the smaller spaces that TRich has no ability to get through. In the second half, when the Offensive line started playing better, TRich was getting 4,5,6, and 7 yard carries however his average had already been wrecked by the three or four -1 yard carries he had in the first half.

The interior of the line issues are also affecting Luck's ability to scramble, on one of the Colts drives into the redzone, we faced a 3rd and 5. Luck didn't have any options downfield, so he began to scramble behind Hugh Thornton who then inexplicably peeled off from blocking a linebacker and turned 180 to hit the guy that Castonzo had locked up behind Andrew Luck. Luck was tackled for no gain.

Treat TRich like Marshawn Lynch, give him some time to get acclimated. There were experts (which you are not) that believed Lynch's career was headed for mediocrity before he made that playoff run against the Saints. Next year, I can guarantee you there will be improvement in the issues with the Indianapolis Colts, but it takes 3 years from drafting to accurately gauge a player's worth.

  6. I guarantee you he does not root for us to win....He is the enemy now!! When he retires then we can welcome him back with open arms...I cannot believe we are gonna honor a current player on another team who wants to beat our brains in...When he retires put him in the Ring of Honor, retire his number, and offer him the Head coaching job...Too honor a current player who is trying to beat us before the game is a joke and embarrassing no matter who he is!

Man, I remember going to a game in 2009 against the Seahawks where the Colts honored a certain Edgerrin James during the game. I don't think I've ever cheered so loud before in my life, and the crowd cheered every time he hit the field. Why would you believe that honoring a person so important to Indianapolis and the Colts was an embarassment?

  7. Why is there such a focus on the power-run game?

Because the Colts are currently making a playoff push, and the only way to get through the playoffs is to be healthy. Trent Richardson needs to improve his game, and the only way for him to improve is to be on the field running the ball.

I for one am impressed with Richardson's performance on Monday night, minus the missed screen. His effort was top notch and the 40 yards he got probably felt like a mile to him.

Will Trent Richardson improve? Undoubtedly yes. He draws huge similarities to Marshawn Lynch, and Marshawn's stats exploded once he had been in Seattle for a year. Bradshaw and Brown both have better vision than Richardson, and that is one of the reasons that the Colts had one of the best running games before Bradshaw went down. Although to be fair, Bradshaw has 7 years of experience and Donald Brown has 5, of which 3 were under Peyton Manning, and if a meager 1% of the experience that Brown acquired working with Joseph Addai and Peyton Manning remained, that would still weigh heavier than the experience Trent Richardson has acquired in 22 games.

Losing Donald Thomas also hurt the offensive line, and those five guys in the trenches have been making me flinch for 2 years now.

In the end, the Colts didn't lose the game because of the playcalling. They lost the game because A) No receiver could hold on to the ball, and B) Young players were making stupid mistakes and costing yardage. If I were to place the blame on one player for the loss, it would be on Hugh Thornton for the unnecessary roughness penalty five seconds after the whistle blew.
