  1. Kraft and BB knew both Patricia and McDaniels were hoping for HC jobs. They could have tried to dissuade JM much earlier in the process and get his agreement to re-up. When you think about it, if the worry was the playoff focus or lack there of, having that discussion earlier would have made more sense.

Instead, they waited until JM had made a commitment to the Colts then they convinced him, against his own agent's advice and, let's face it, against JM's NFL future outside of NE, to renege on his commitment to the Colts. In my mind they convinced JM to do something that was not in his best interests but only their own. A win-lose proposition. The despicable timing by Kraft and BB is what gets me.

The Leo Durocher statement, "Nice guys finish last" is the guiding light of the Pats under Kraft.

  2. Robert Kraft, by coming in so very late in the game and swiping the head coach that we were patiently waiting for, got his sweet revenge for Deflate-gate.

How about this chess move.... Trade Andrew Luck to the Jags for their next eight years' first round picks.

The Pats would never win another AFC Championship. Brady would retire early. No more rings. Pats Nation would go into a deep depression.

The Colts would recover with all those draft picks and, if they aren't wasted, field a great team in five years.

Very unrealistic, I know. But just imagine.     :coltshelmet:

Overall, an excellent post, but I really want to focus on this part. Though even if Barkley didn't have this issue, I still wouldn't take him at #3.. I don't think RB is worth it.

Barkley doesn't hit lanes inside hard, with violence of someone like Gurley who was just savage at it in college. He tries to bounce outside, to an open space, where he is absolutely fantastic so it's understandable. Just as a pure runner, I don't think he's the best RB prospect to come out in recent years. If the hole isn't there inside, he has bad tendency to stop moving his feet. As you said, can it be coached out of him? And why does it happen. Is he little soft? Overcompensating for bad O-line? Or something else that can be coached out of him?

College football is different than NFL and though Barkley obviously had bad OL, the decision making before LOS for RB is crucial imo. That's one thing where prospects can be evaluated equally, no matter what scheme, competition or OL talent they run behind.

So.. Maybe Barkley won't be bell-cow back? But more like Reggie Bush? Reggie Bush didn't become a great runner until later in his career when his athleticism had declined. How soon will it happen with Barkley? However, there is no denying his athleticism and talent as a receiver. So the ideal usage for him might be more similar to how many scatbacks are used.. But he would probably be even bigger mismatch in the passing game and better runner than best scatbacks in the game today (Lewis, White, Riddick etc.). Or just bigger, more athletic and better pure runner than McCaffrey. I'd actually be more willing to use high pick on that kind of player than RB like Gurley, Elliott and Fournette.

I agree with you about his running "nature",or tendencies which I don't particularly like. I think I can already answer your question about if he is soft though. I have seen him, when it's goal to go at the 3 or 4 yard line, really violently attack the middle with zero hesitation. I've seen him knock linemen backwards and move the pile. I've seen it many times. So, for that reason, I know he isn't soft at all. But in other areas of the field I see exactly what you are describing. Just as an aside, I have also seen him channel Cam Newton Superman and vault high over the pile to score a few touchdowns. So, in general, he's a great gpal to go back.

I don't think the OP was meant to be taken seriously, at least that's my hope given he was the second leading pass catching TE in the league with a back up QB and we use him in the run game, so he's not like Dallas where he was a mainly a pass catcher, and I love me some Dallas.  Jack is a very good TE.

Yeah, and Dallas had Peyton throwing to him while Doyle had Brissett. Peyton really developed precise timing with all his receivers and Dallas through repetition after rep after rep. Almost to a fault. Because of that Peyton normally hit Dallas perfectly in stride for YAC sometimes into a seam. Doyle and Brissett never had that opportunity or bonding. Doyle was often leaping or diving for the ball with not much opportunity for YAK. I'm not saying Jack is as good a receiver as Dallas but I think he's closer than many would think..

    Or better yet...

    1) Chubb

    2) Fitzpatrick and trade down

    3) Barkley/Nelson/Ridley (group all the bad ideas together)

I'm not keen on Fitzpatrick for the Colts at 3. While he is a great talent so is Chubb. With the help of a much better pass rush or secondary will look better. We already have Hooker, Geathers and Farley as safeties and scouts aren't sure Fitzpatrick is best suited for CB. BTW, I know you put Chubb at 1 and Fitzpatrick at 2. I'm just posting my thoughts is all.

I am an advocate of BPA but, if close, then similar talent at a position of need and inside the first three rounds, and ove all, avoid possible busts by all means possible (meaning high ceiling, low floor types). Mingo was a Browns bust. TRich was a Browns bust and we had 18 games worth of NFL film on that and we allowed him to become our bust too. Tebow was a Broncos bust. Johnny Football was the bust the Browns got with the 1st round pickup they got from us. First round busts are killers. Dorsett and Werner for us.

I don't believe Fitzpatrick will be a bust, but just not a great fit. Nelson is a great fit and will not be a bust, but positional value is a concern of course.

Cleveland trades number one overall pick to Buffalo for 21st and 22nd. Gives the Browns number 4, 21, 22. This year.

With the 1st pick Buffalo takes either Darnold or Rosen.

Giants at number 2, "possibly" takes whoever is left or trades with Jets or Broncos who may need QB if none acquired via FA, although I'm not sure Giants grab a QB here. If Giants trade with Browns here then my below theory will not come to pass

Colts at number 3 swaps picks with Browns and gets 22nd overall as well

Colts gain 2 1st round picks here in this scenario, which is totally plausible IF... 1) Browns grab QB via FA or a RB via FA like Carlos Hyde

*My thinking is Browns really want Allen if no QB in FA can be obtained, fearing Denver may trade Colts to grab Allen, Browns swap with Colts and offer one of the 2 number one's acquired from Bills to grab Allen at 3

Not as far fetched a scenario if you really think about it... But my major point is nothing will be shaped as "Real" possibility until FA period is over, especially regarding QB's

Wow. That is a very complex scenario! Mathematically if each step has a 33% chance of happening you have .33^5 = .0039 or .39% probability.
