  1. Not over reacting. This thread is over reacting. Im all for building off the positives from last night, but to jump to were better than last yr. after the first 2 horrible games and everybody talking about how terrible we were, to all of a sudden being so much better than last yr. after 1 game is reactionary. If we came out and stunk it up next week, we will right back to being the worst team in the league. All im saying is we can't jump from terrible to so much better than last yr. because of one good performance.

    I think the OP meant certain aspects look better. We are only three games in but we have gotten better each week progressively, especially on defense. Might mean nothing, but its at least encouraging to me.

  2. You are right, Balzer. People thought Collins would give us a chance, and proclaimed Painter a waste of a roster spot. Then they were screaming for him last night, and acting as if he did something great out there.

    Did he lead a touchdown drive? Sure. But he also gave the Steelers their only defensive touchdown on the season, missed on a throw that 31 other back up QB's would have completed for a touchdown, and bounced an easy first down three feet short. The latter of which people swore was on Garcon, but that's a ridiculous statement seeing as how it was an out route, and diving low to get it would have put Garcon short of the sticks anyway.

    The fumble was not his fault, Costanzo got burned in a second. As far as missing Garcon, he did, but wasnt that his first pass in live action all year?

  3. There were definite bright spots in the game for the Colts last night (the defense, as you said), but in the end, all that matters is the W-L column. And unfortunately, we're 0-3. If we can't score in the red zone when the Defense is handing the offense field position on a silver platter, its gonna be a long rest of the season.

    That is true. I actually believe our Red zone efficiency will get much better if Painter plays(quicker release) and as Delone Carter gets more comfortable. Joe looks good, I do need to see a heck of a lot more from Dallas clark though. He has been our Zone beater and Red zone specialist, and he looks absolutley lost right now.

  4. Dropped passes, bad blocking, poor routes, and batting screen passes to the ground purposely to avoid what he thinks will be a big hit.........I dont know what is going on with him, but he has not stepped up at all. He has regressed. Reggie and Garcon look the same(including dropped passes for Pierre) and Joe looks the same, we are running the ball better but Dallas really needs to up his game a bit.

  5. Some Colts fans are so reactionary its comical. Last couple of weeks we were "the worst team in the league" and "wouldn't be winning even if Manning was playing", but now all of a sudden were great in every single aspect of the game. The Colts done a great job last night, theres no doubt and if they can put a few games like that in a row then we will definitely be improving. It was 1 game and we'll see if they can play with consistancy, but to proclaim them being so much better than last yr. after 1 good game is jumping the gun just a little bit.

    You are over reacting. No one in this thread said we are great in every aspect of the game. Let us fans look for the bright spots and enjoy the season in the way we see fit.

  6. Everyone is making it sound like he's out with a bad injury. No, he's not, rotoworld didnt even elaborate. From what i'm reading in the SD rags, it's just a precautionary step due to a knee issue that appears to be minor. So he is just out this one game and will be back making awesome tackles like normal.

    You mean he will miss this one game and then miss 11 more before making awesome tackles in one more game before being forced into retirement by the SD training staff because he uses up all their tape and salt tablets?

  7. I'll gladly take you up on this bet. The Steelers won 24-0 against a team that is as bad as we are. Desperation doesn't cover for poor tackling, a qb that should be retired, a terrible offensive line and an excessively long injury list. Pittsburgh has the best defensive coordinator in the league and they will give our offensive line fits. I expect the Colts to look better and play better, but they are simply overmatched. Steelers will win 31-13.

    Failure.

  8. The Run D is unbelievably better. The run blocking has improved. The only thing missing is peyton. Through 2.5 games the colts are rushing for more yards per carry than their opponent. That has NOT happened since before peyton was drafted.

    Really makes you wonder. This team could be big time contenders in 2013.

    I agree, making strides toward better Dline and run stuffing. The Kickoff rules are helping our pourous ST a ton, so I hope that rule stays as well, but if Peyton was healthy we would be 2-1 right now, and we have to keep in perspective that if we continue to lose a very high draft pick is coming.

  9. W=Colts-Caldwell(+Manning)

    Win = x

    X = Peyton

    Caldwell = loss

    Loss = y

    x + Colts = x

    x + y + Colts = 2009 super bowl

    x + Colts - Y = Super bowl champs

    -x + y = 2-14 season

    -y + x + colts +

    oh forget it, you get the idea, Caldwell is horrible.

  10. If Stanford lined up primarily in 1 back sets with multiple WR's, then I would agree that your theory would likely be correct. However, they line up in goal line type formations all over the field. I've watched them run a full drive from a 3 TE/2 RB set without a single WR on the field. They are a power running team first and a passing team second.

    Rodgers was a very different scenario. He was not considered pro-ready coming out of college. He had some work to do on his mechanics (footwork, throwing motion, etc). THAT is why Green Bay was able to draft him at the end of the first round. If he had been as pro-ready as people claim Luck to be then he would have also gone in the top 5 and would have been likely starting from day 1.

    This is simply not true. The Stanford offense is nothing like the Colts offense...in fact they are about as opposite as you can get. Stanford has Jason Whitten type TE's who are big, strong and are great blockers but are also good receivers. Our primary TE's are more finesse guys who are often described as oversized WR's. They are receivers first and blockers second. Stanford runs out of multiple power sets using multiple blocking TE's and multiple backs. The Colts run mostly out of 1 back sets. When we use 2 TE sets it's usually 1 blocking TE (Eldridge/McNeill) and one receiving TE (Clark/Tamme). I am not in any way saying Luck couldn't come in and run our offense, but to say he's the most likely to be able to step in and run our offense is simply not true.

    The type of offense we run is closer to a college spread offense. Yes the Colts are trying to establish more balance, but with the type of receivers and TE's we have, we will always be more of a finesse team than a power running team. Therefore imo guys like Landry Jones or Nick Foles would be a better fit because they're used to running a more pass-oriented, spread style offense.

    I was not comparing the offeneses lol I was referring to the intelligence of a Stanford Quarterback. You have to be very intelligent to be there. Luck has got it all. But dont worry, there were plenty of detractors just like you who wanted to take Ryan Leaf over a More intelligent QB many moons ago. We all know how that has turned out.

  11. Again...why? Why would it be foolish to take Luck over Matt Barkley, Landry Jones, Kirk Cousins or Nick Foles? What is it that makes Luck so much better and so much more special that he should unquestionably be taken #1 over those other prospects? And keep in mind that we're basing our assumptions at this point that Manning will return. Therefore "Luck is more pro ready" is simply not a valid reason for a team who would have him riding the bench for 2-4 years.

    Also, what does that say to Manning, who intentionally took less money to give us more flexibility under the cap to make moves to build a better overall team now?

    Because Luck is Better, and smarter than all those players you mentioned. He is the most likely to be able to step in and run the type of offense we run here, and if you just pass on him when you had the chance to get him, you would be kicking yourself later.

    Go colts, to answer your question, the perception of our front office in the eyes of fans and media means nothing to me. I am a football fan, not a media member, player, or coach.

  12. http://www.battleredblog.com/2009/7/23/958892/a-very-brief-introduction-the-4-3

    http://www.ninersnation.com/2011/5/6/2157339/49ers-defensive-personnel-perfect-fit-for-4-3-over-scheme

    Based on reading this, can we put Brackett at WILL and run a 4-3 under defense which might work better with the personnel we have? The SAM blitzes a lot and defends the run really well plus jams the TEs in coverage too.

    Thoughts??

    Why not, anything to scrap the tampa 2 is fine with me. Its a flawed, old, and non effective system. Even with the right personel, the Tampa 2 cant stop todays quick passing efficent offense.

  13. OMG

    please pray for Kerry to finish the game somehow intact with all his extremities

    I kind of would like to see Kerry have a seat anyway at this point. If we are going to be terrible, lets be terrible with Painter who isnt a total statue. So have at him Lamar......

  14. I never really understood the Melvin Bullit Love. Why? because he caught a few poorly thrown Passes for INT's at the end of games that had more to do with Freeny than anything?

    Melvin is average. On any other team he is a backup. Its why he came back to Indy and signed again. We love terrible DB's here.

  15. Are QB's really the main reason for success? All I hear is people talking about them and complaining about them. Not just Colts fans, but everyone. Most of the conversations are based on QB's. If you look at NFL history, it is clearly a team sport and defense is more important than a QB.

    Now there are ton of teams that win and won with sub par QB's. Here is an example of Super Bowl winners. Just imagine how many teams made it into the playoffs with sub par QB's.

    Doug Williams

    Jeff Hostetler

    Mark Rypien

    Trent Dilfer

    Brad Johnson

    I can put a few others on this list, but they are a little bit better than sub-par.

    The point is just by looking at Super Bowl winners, there are hundreds of other sup-par QB's that went into the playoffs.

    Stop dissing Collins, stop whining and moaning, stop crying. Blame the team effort. Collins didn't singlehandedly lose those games.

    The Defense was atrocious in both games. Special teams even worse. We couldn't run the ball at Hou. Our DB's stink. Coaching hasn't been good either.

    QB's don't win games.

    ALL of those teams had super, Duper defenses. We dont. We wont. We cant. We shant. We draft. They Laughed. We Cry.......and a little more good Defense dies.

  16. This reminds me of a funny story. I was at a Colts game a couple of years ago and there was this guy with this really high powered camera taking pictures of the cheerleaders. Well the dude next to him leans over and goes "I know what you are doing (wink) I can't blame you she is pretty hot" and said something I can't repeat here. The guy then looks at him and goes "That's my daughter."

    I remember that story from another site. It was funny.
