This is the weirdest thing ever. Why did we go through all this nonsense, if you are going to reward him for the stuff he pulled before you he's even proven he's healthy and back to his top form? What does that tell every other player you refuse to give contract at the exact moment they decide they need it and at the exact terms they decide they want? It tells them - sit out, fake injury, miss games while being paid for them... and Ballard will pay you.

I don't get the timing and the number and ... anything of this really.

Ballard will no doubt talk about this soon and I think we will get a strong clue to why things suddenly turn from nasty to a massive extension.

I think the comeback (almost) play by Richardson against LA Rams made Shane/Ballard/Irsay go, ok this dude could be legit so let’s crank it up a notch and extend Taylor.

If they didn’t feel good about Richardson, they would need that memory in reserve for a QB plan B backup plan. Also, Irsay is a hopeless romantic and probably let his heart decide to fix the conflict and extend Taylor which he no doubt love despite what went down.

I’ll honest, I don’t really like his answers. Maybe it’s just how his answers are presented in these snippets, but… something’s off.

Yeah? I’m not getting that bad a vibe from this... Sounds like he might have accepted that he needs to play with his teammates and then we will see how it goes later regarding a contract … which is basically that best we could realistically hope for right now.

Don't know if it's personal, but didn't KB get fired by the Colts early in Ballard's tenure? I don't remember what that was all about but maybe there's some tension from that...

Yep, pretty sure he was let go. Maybe not Ballard himself that pulled the trigger on that, but there might be some grudge going on since then.

    Definitely an objective reporter here...

As opposed to this from Hicks (who also had an awful take earlier today, btw):

I agree with you here, but now I’m starting to wonder if Holder is just not a very smart person. I just listened to the presser and I got the same impression as Zach Hicks to what Ballard was trying to say with the “we only won 4 games last year”. Ballard did also mention a new head coach and if you have been following the NFL just a little bit you should get it.

I think you have to be a bit dense to come up with that tweet Holder did, if he in fact believe it itself and have not just done a copy/paste from Taylor’s agent. Which I can unfortunately not rule out anymore, sigh…

Seriously, what's the point of negotiations if you aren't allowed to ask for adequate compensation?

    :)

I think that Taylor and his agent were clearly gambling on the Colts would become desperate to just get something as Taylor made it clear that he would not play for the Colts, no matter what.

Happy that Ballard wasn’t bullied into accepting that. I was about to write that Ballard called their bluff, but I’m not sure there is any bluff involved actually. I would be highly surprised if Taylor decides to play in four weeks after all. Mentally speaking, he is gone.

    McKelvin

    Woods(IR)

Stand out, as I fully expect Woods to be IR'd

Maybe Fries gets an IR trip

Would say O'Donnell and French could be shifted out as well.

    That's gets 5 spots

Sounds about right, especially if we pick up two o linemen…

I never understood drafting a bunch of tall WRs with decent speed, that are solid contested catchers, but can't separate. Ability to separate is one of the biggest skills a WR can have and we finally went that direction this year with Downs.

If you look around the league, the best WRs at this moment aren't height/weight/speed guys. It's Jefferson, Chase, Waddle, Diggs, etc.

I believe this is a relic from the Reich era… :grumpy2:
