  1. I work weekdays and usually go in at 8:30 AM. When I leave depends on what I have on the schedule for that day. It's usually between 4-6. Mondays are not a good day for me.

If we were doing the draft on a Tues-Fri, it would need to be later in the evening. Saturday and Sunday I should be available for most of the day unless something pops up.

After the first three pick their draft position, you will be able to pick from the positions still left open. As for the draft date, the closer to (or within) pre-season week 4 is probably preferable to all.

    All,

Preseason week 4 (5 according to NFL because of the Hall of Fame Game) starts on Friday 30, Aug.  We can do it that weekend: Friday, Saturday, or Sunday.  As far as times go, I prefer later in the evening, past 7pm...unfortunately being in the UK right now, that would be around 2pm EST and 11am PST.

    What's your thoughts on this?

I'm free on weekend afternoons most of the time. Saturday at 2 PM Eastern works for me at the moment.

You can risk Davis leaving. You actually can

How many chances down NOLA get to contend?

If you can start Anthony Davis at center, Zion Williamson at forward and Jrue Holiday at guard.

To me? Ride with that.  What if Williamson averages 20 and 10 and fills your building?

    See where it goes.

    At the all-star break re-evaluate.

Again: How many chances does NOLA get to really contend?

I can see them trying this but I would not take this risk. Even if you wait until the all-star break you are dramatically decreasing the haul you could have gotten if you trade him at the start of free agency this summer.

Even with AD I'm not sure how far this team is going to go. I don't know if Zion is going to immediately light up the league like everybody is expecting and I'm not sure about the fit of him and Julius Randle on the same team.

I certainly can see why the Pelicans would do all they can to keep AD, but they are playing with fire.

I don't know CBE...have you heard David Griffin, the new GM...His No,1 goal is to get Anthony Davis to resign..

If Zion is a superstar, then NOLA has two super stars under contract ( and Holiday is a near-star)...and you know what we say about what you need to contend

Remember that Davis 'burned bridges" with the old management, not Griffin

Do you take this chance when AD could potentially leave following the next season? I'm not sure I can risk that without a sure answer from AD that he will re-sign. If you don't get anything for him you are setting the franchise back.

When I listened earlier i thought it was Green that they said they messed around with at LB and said he is going to be a DE, not Banogu. But i may be mistaken. ..

I thought in yesterday's presser Ballard compared Banogu to Jamie Collins and will play a little bit of everything.

Yeah he was talking about Gerri Green. Don't know how I missed that.

  6. Here is an overview of what Ballard said after the draft:

-The overall plan was to add speed and competition on defense. Finding fits on defense from a talent and character perspective.

-Linebacker was a priority to address in this draft. Needed to add players for defense and special teams reasons.

-They loved Khari Willis and thought about taking him in the 3rd round. Ballard thought he was one of the best tackling safeties in the draft. Great fit from talent, character, intelligence perspective.

-They see Marvell Tell III as a corner and have worked him out at that position. Thought his 2017 tape was better than 2018.

-They did their research into EJ Speed's criminal history. Had a great workout and they see huge potential as a linebacker that can play all 3 spots. Will begin his career at WILL.

-They are going to play Ben Banogu at DE. They toyed with Banogu at MIKE linebacker, but think his best position is DE.

-Ballard feels like he addressed the offensive line heavy enough last year to not make too many moves this year. Specifically mentioned bringing back the starting 5, and having depth like Joe Haeg, Evan Boehm, Josh Andrews, and Jamarcus Webb. 2 linemen added late in draft add to competition.

-Ballard liked the defensive line depth enough to not address it too heavily in the draft. Mentioned that not every player can automatically be great like Leonard or Nelson. Still believe in Turay and Lewis.

-They like some UDFA running backs as well as some free agents (Jay Ajayi?) and will be bringing some in over the next couple of weeks.

I don't understand why some think a 4th rounder has to be a starter and when they are not it is a bad pick?

GMs take players in the later rounds with the thought process of them developing.

It makes no difference where a player is taken as long as they can contribute.

For me, it's not the fact that I'm expecting them to draft a starter this late. It is based on the other players on the board. If there is a guy who was on the board with that 4th round pick that I wanted who ends up being a instant impact guy and future starter, it is fair to judge the pick.

If Khari Willis ends up being a key part to the team whether he starts or not, nobody should worry about who we passed to get him.

I appreciate your honest answer.  Most people hide behind some random other person's opinion to protect them.   I had other Safeties in mind myself, but I also realized I knew very little about Willis beyond the simple evaluations I had read prior to the pick.  Since the pick, I have learned more.  Leadership is is calling card.  He obviously has measurables that meet criteria for the job.  I've seen evaluations that suggest he'll be a great piece of our team's needs.  Other people disagree such as yourself.  As long as you state is it simply your opinion, then cool, you would have chosen otherwise.  How much did you honestly know about THIS player beforehand?  I had others in mind because I had done a lot more research into other names beforehand, but not much into this player.  So sure, I liked some of those players.  I had to stop, spend some time checking out who this kid was and it became clear to me he has the team personality they want, and must have met or exceeded the other desires the team had.  Heck, for them to aggressively move up 20 spots means they SERIOUSLY wanted this specific player and paid a hefty price (in my view) to get him.  I am not a blind fanboy of Ballard (or anyone for that matter) but I DO respect our current team of scouts and execs and I know they know 100 times what any of us do about what they want/need in their locker room.  For all we know he could simply be perfect for Special teams/back up only needs and they are CONFIDENT Geathers will be healthy and good to go long term at Safety.  They may feel like this guy is perfect to be PREPARED to step up in case of injury, perhaps faster than some other options out there.  There are so many variables we will NEVER have access to, it makes our decisions/desires blind no matter how much good faith time we put in.

I think of the WR situation.  Ironically, I really WANTED Campbell all along and was thrilled that in one single case, the guy I wanted was ALSO the guy they wanted.  None of us predicted more than one or two players in any given draft and most of us batted ZERO most of the time.  Outside of obvious early 1st round picks, my guess is historically, no one here has gotten more than 2 picks right in any draft we've had.  (I haven't seen that claimed/backed up anyway).  It could be as simple as none of the other guys you wanted had the leadership skills they demand from their players here.  Perhaps that ability/skill becomes even MORE critical for players viewed as long time backups.  Think Reich.  Imagine having THAT type of quality guy as a long time backup in your program? That's a lot of value to have.  4th round picks aren't often day one starters, but if you knew this was the type of guy who could be ready by week 4 to fill in for an injured safety on our team, THAT has a lot of value.

Anyway, thanks for your no nonsense answer.  It's refreshing honesty we need more of here.

I'm not going to sit here and act like a guru and say I watch every snap of all the small school draft prospects. However, Khari Willis went to Michigan State who had one of the best defenses in college football with players like Kenny Willekes and Justin Layne. So I tried to evaluate Willis as I was evaluating Layne and Willekes(Willekes decided to stay in school).

I trust Ballard and believe he knows more football than I could ever dream of. Just giving another perspective here.

And you know all this for a fact based on ?  Have you scouted his season against TE's? Who is your source otherwise?  And is that source more respected than Ballard and his team or even (for what it is worth) Mel Kiper and his team?  How about coverage in zone versus man schemes? I defer to Ballard and his team and corroborated by others.  Plus, his primary use is unquestionably going to be in the box.  Were there better Safeties in the box than him? Which ones? Based on who's evaluation?  You don't mention any of that in your criticism.

This is based off my opinion and my own eyes. I'm not relying on anybody else to give me information. I'm just calling it like I see it and giving my opinion on a forum. This is what this platform is for.

You can't expect every person to like every pick. Nobody is 100% right. If I'm wrong, I'm wrong. Not bashing Ballard, just don't like the pick.

  10. Don't know why all of the analysts are saying he is good at covering TEs. He shut down Zach Gentry at Michigan who is not good. He would get murdered by any average TE in the NFL.

Bottom line for me is that his ceiling is a backup safety who is great on special teams and I think there were options on the board that could actually replace Geathers in the future.

And I didn't mean to insinuate that the only reason Ballard picked him was for his character, but I do think that was a major part of the decision. I guarantee him being a team captain and hard worker is the first thing out of Ballard's mouth at the press conference.

The only thing I like about the fit is that he is a really good fit in our zone defense and he comes up and tackles well similar to Geathers. He shows no instincts or coverage ability, so unless he improves I'd be scared to have him cover anybody on passing downs.

  11. Very surprised that Bryce Love went before Justice Hill. I thought Justice Hill, Dexter Williams, and Rodney Anderson would all be picked in the 3rd round.

I did think Bryce Love was worth an early 4th though.

He was a late 4th to Mid 5th by most “expert” sources. So a bit of a reach but not drastically

Yeah I was saying he was a 6th-7th round pick in my opinion watching Michigan State games. He could prove me wrong but I don't see it. Would definitely rather have Hooker or Deionte Thompson.

  13. I think he's more of a great teammate than a good player. I thought he had 6th-7th round value. He's not beating out Clayton Geathers or Matthias Farley any time soon.

He's a good fit for this defense, but I think they fell in love with the character and picked him too early. He provides nothing in coverage at all man to man on RBs, TEs, and slot receivers.

  14. Outside of the guys mentioned, my top players are guys like RB Ryquell Armstead, G Dru Samia, and LB David Long Jr.

I think we look at safety day 3, but Chris Ballard did say at the press conference that they liked the depth they already have at safety. Deionte Thompson and Amani Hooker may make it to our first 4th round pick. I really like Jaquan Johnson out of Miami in the late 4th-early 5th range.

We could look to add TE as well with all the talent that dropped. I'm higher on Alize Mack out of Notre Dame than most, and think Foster Moreau can be a Jack Doyle type player for us.

Gerald Willis III is the guy I would take if we wanted to add to the 3-tech spot on the defensive line.

  15. Diontae Johnson is a great player. Didn't think teams would view him as high as I did, but he went a few spots higher than I had him on my board.

2nd best route runner in the draft. Dangerous with the ball in his hands.
