It's not necessarily being a homer. I don't know who was the most impressive, but Luck was asked to a lot more than the other rookie quarterbacks.
Was he? You know this for a fact? I would say the guys running the read option offense were asked to do more.
If Luck is "by far" the better QB, do you think Shanahan is regretting his choice? Do you think Seattle would trade QB situations with the Colts?
-
I presented you with facts. But I guess it's easier to claim someone is a homer then to present a counter argument to real statistics.
You presented me with fact? Where?
And yes, if you can sit there and honestly say that Luck was by far the best rookie QB last season, you are doing that as a homer.
-
Sure I can. Luck played behind the second worst O-line in the league, no run game, and 2 receivers that ranked #1 overall in dropped pass percentage with 16.7%.
As a homer you can claim that, but not as an objective observer. Sometimes you need to remove the "homer glasses".
-
It's pretty easy to protect the ball when you only throw it 20 times a game.
That's part of a QB's decision making process. Still, you can't say Luck was by far the best of the rookie QB's last season.
-
Who would you put above him though? Brady, Brees, Rodgers, and Manning are givens. Flacco is even more inconsistent and mediocre than Eli. Ben has a solid case for the 5th best, Ryan also has a case but he struggles in the playoffs.
Yes I put Flacco ahead of Eli Manning along with, Ryan, the kid from SF, Wilson, Roethlisberger, Griffin and even Luck.
-
I think Luck is the real deal and the best QB of the rookie QB class by far.
While Luck at times was impressive, a couple of other rookie QB's were impressive to a greater degree than Luck. It's not accurate to say he was best of the rookie class "by far". I thought both Griffin and Wilson looked consistently more impressive than Luck. Does that mean I believe the Colts messed up by drafting him? Not at all.
Luck may develop into a high quality QB, but he needs to get better at protecting the ball and his decision making.
-
He'd definitely overrated. History though? I don't know about that. To me he's probably the 5th or 6th best QB in the league.
I don't think he's a top 10 QB.
-
Eli's been a starter for 9 years. Rodgers has only been starting for 5.
To me, Eli Manning is the most overrated QB in NFL history.

ND fans never cease to amaze me
I dislike ND with great zeal. I can be objective about spotting talent even if that talent is on a team I dislike.
-
Te'o was under hyped????
As incredible as you seem to think it is. Yes, as a player before the big story broke I thought he was under-hyped. I thought he was easily and by far the best LB ever in college football.
-
I would be surprised if he doesn't land in Seattle.
-
I dont think it had anything to do with his off the field issue (I personally dont see what the big deal is, so what he was gullible when it came to what he thought was a woman, how many men aren't or have not been at some point and time?) I think it had everything to do with him just being outmatched vs NFL caliber O Line talent in Warmack, Fluker and Jones
Then that's an even bigger problem. As I watched that game, I thought that the ND Defense would have been pretty solid if they didn't have that glaring weakness at linebacker. He's going to face talent at least that good every week in the NFL.

Do you know any of the newer players in the league? You sound like age is a badge of honour. This is a good fun topic, yet you pick your way through it like it was a field of nettles......
Of course i know who the great players of today are. And yes, along with age comes wisdom that youngsters don't have.
That being said, your "field of nettles" comment has me scratching my head a bit.

Many of you younger guys don't know who some of those players are.

There, no QB's. I know you younger folks will argue with my pick for the Colts. But that's because you just don't know.

hmmmmm......

its 4.5 million
If the Chiefs released him, his contract with them is not an issue. He will get what he can negotiate with a new team. He doesn't get released with a contract another team has to honor.

Well that's a pretty silly thing to do so soon before the combine when you're one of the top LB'ers in the draft. Meanwhile, Manti Te'o is imaginary fist pumping as his draft stock rises.
As far as Mantai Teo is concerned. During the regular college season, I thought he was possibly the best linebacker I have ever seen. His movement and footwork looked to be miles ahead of anyone. I thought he was the most under-hyped player ever. I would have voted him as the Heisman trophy winner.
That changed after the bowl game. He was easily the weakest link in the ND defense that day. If his play can drop so dramatically because of the pressure he was under for an off field issue, I would never draft that kid.

The title of the post says no Qbs.
Then you must eliminate many of the best players in a team's history. Even with that, my list would be far different than the original.
-
No Qbs.
There's about 10 QB's on my list.
-
I think Seattle is going to make a strong offer. After all they lost their only true pass rusher to a serious knee injury in the playoffs.

You can't throw a flag in that scenario. If you do, you're basically handing San Fran the Super Bowl on an iffy call.
I remember a super bowl a few years ago (Seahawks vs Steelers) where flags were thrown against one team on a lot of "iffy" plays. Some of those plays, no foul occurred period. But then that was before they had the philosophy of "let em play".
So when people say officiating evens out, or doesn't change the game, I say nonsense.
What do you expect from Luck in 2013?

That's great, but it still doesn't translate into Luck being the best rookie QB "by far" last season. And yes, you are being a homer on the Luck issue. There's nothing wrong with that if you just admit it.
