  1. Houston didn’t punt until the second half, around the 9 minute mark of the third quarter if I am not mistaken, this is because they went to a more conservative offensive play calling.

The Brayton and Anderson reference indicates why Indy had success in stopping the Browns rushing attack, which in my humble opinion is vastly over rated and Hillis had a fluke season.

That is an indication of how bad Melvin Bullit (Don’t like him period) is and how poor tackling and gap assignments and responsibilities in assignments that are typically missed. Hillis runs a lot of dives between the C/G, where other runners generally have success running at our DE’S.

The Steelers did not have their 5 normal starters, as that line has not been the same since some time back into last season. They had no other offensive linemen available to play, and Big Ben talked after the game about how they were prepared to use D linemen out there, because the line is so depleted.

Think u misquoted me, I didn’t say the Steelers abandoned the pass, they abandoned the run because their line generated no push or clear lanes and their passing attack was more effective.

Yes, you are absolutely right, there are always factors that affect the game. I am not trying to put a negative spin on the Colt’s and I do not want it to come off that way, I am simply giving a realistic unbiased humble opinion, which is sometimes good to hear. Good call on the next man up, maybe the coaching staff and front office need to evaluate talent more efficiently and play the more talented player and put ego aside.

  2. What the Colts Need To Do To Win:

Tampa Bay has a very underappreciated and one of the more under rated defensive lines in football. They completely shut down Turner and the physical Atlanta Falcons offensive line Sunday. I don’t think the Colts are going to have this success running the football, but I also don’t think the Colts are going to have a lot of success throwing on the perimeter, the Bucs have a good secondary, personally I think your on to something with Addai in the passing game, as I think the Colts will have success working the middle of the field and inside the numbers.

The Colts D line needs to get the same penetration from the interior of the line to collapse the pocket on Freeman, as Freeney and Mathis should be able to contain on the outside. This will also help penetrate the backfield on Blount and keep him from having clean running lanes.

What the Buccaneers Need to Do To Win:

The Bucs need to create balance on offense. Running the ball will open up the passing game and vice versa. They need to throw the ball around, which doesn’t seem too difficult a task to accomplish against the Colts this season. You are really sleeping on Freeman and the Tampa aerial attack, especially with how bad this Colt’s secondary is!

    Breakout Performers/ Key Matchup:

Colts breakout performer will be Dallas Clarke and Joseph Addai in the passing game.

Bucs breakout performer will be Legarette Blount and Mike Williams on the ground and in the air.

Key Matchup is the Colts secondary vs. Bucs Williams, Benn, Winslow

    What I Think Will Happen:

Colts will be beat in the secondary forcing a drop into coverage for the safeties and linebackers opening up the running game for the Bucs. The Colts offense will struggle but will find some success working the middle of the field, Bucs lost their quarterback on defense Barrett Rudd to free agency this year, which has shown to be a key loss. This Tampa team is a lot better than you are giving them credit for on both sides of the ball, they will jump out to an early lead and the game will be over quick. This is not a team where the Colts are going to get their first win, sorry

    Prediction:

    Colts 13 – Bucs 27

  3. Angerer is the much better Mike linebacker for the Colts! Brackett’s better days are behind him, I hope he will retire and keep his pride and dignity, because that chubby checker needs to be done and free up some cap space. I can’t wait for that game tomorrow night, I will be evaluating Short and Te’o the whole game, I think Short could be the mid round NT to fit the Colts very nicely, much like Nevis. And Te’o I will be evaluating his coverage skills even more closely, in the 3-4 the ILB has not only gap responsibilities, but also has coverage responsibilities like a 4-3 OLB, and if he could transition to a OLB (think he has a better chance than Angerer) that could be a guy the Colts should really consider. Hopefully we see more Mookie and Nevis, but I still like Mookie in a rotation as depth! But impact linebackers would also drastically help the run support, a lot of people over look the importance of linebackers to a team even in the 4-3 as the Colt’s organization has frequently done so. They more value the MLB, but gap discipline is important and physicality for your entire line backing unit, not just the Mike!

  4. That's an interesting question:

    http://football.about.com/od/miscinformation/a/detdraftorder.htm

    Tiebreakers

    • Strength of schedule for the previous season is the first tie-breaker for teams with the same winning percentage. The team with the lowest strength of schedule percentage wins the tiebreaker and picks ahead of all other teams with the same record.

    • Divisional and conference records are the next step in the tie-breaking procedure.

    • As a last resort, a coin toss is used to determine the order of selection for teams with the same winning percentage.

  5. There is a very famous expression “the numbers don’t lie,” well I myself have an additional piece to add to that the numbers don’t lie, “BUT THEY DON’T ALWAYS TELL THE WHOLE STORY!” That’s a BmoreColt quote baby! While it is true Houston averaged slightly over four yards a carry it doesn’t tell the whole story. They were up 34 at halftime, and took their foot of the pedal so to speak, not to mention Colts made halftime adjustments and knew their only chance was to perform better on D in the second half. You see it all the time when teams are up big they lose enthusiasm and the same instinctive play when the game is close. The Texans ran at will on the Colts in the first half!

The Browns really don’t have the aerial attack the Texans have, and the game was much closer. The Colts used a lot of eight man fronts, I can remember horrible Melvin Bullitt playing on the LOS on Hillis 20 something odd yard touchdown run, where he couldn’t set the edge and couldn’t make the tackle, which is why he is a back up at best. But the circumstances were different, closer game so the Browns mixed the run with the pass, I also remember seeing a lot more of Brayton and Anderson in week two as well.

The Steelers were using a lot of reserves on their offensive line, which yielded much of the success that the Colts had in containing the run and getting pressure. They also completely abandoned the run and went to the pass.

While it is true the YPC average and yardage per game has gone down, there have been circumstantial factors yielding such results. Texans took their foot off the gas, the adjustments and frankly the team (Browns) in week two aren’t having anywhere near the same success they had last year running the ball, and the Steelers had such a horrendous offensive line to warrant great play by the D, also Nevis and Mookie played side by side, that is a winning formula!

  6. I agree we don’t take him and use his hype and NFL ready label to acquire lots of quality draft picks and players, players who can make an immediate impact now and in the future to help this team. The guy is going to sit behind Manning, and until Manning officially retires, no one and I mean no one will start over him if he is healthy! Therefore use Luck to get what we need now and in the future, besides I watch Luck and I am just not as sold on his potential as others we can take later and in the future! But I disagree with Painter being the eventual replacement, unless this guy makes a complete 180.

  7. copied and pasted from another thread:

I didn't get goose pimples (like many Colts fans) over the way the defense played against the Steelers.

The Colts defense has a reputation of showing up for a game or 2(especially if they have been embarrassed or are getting hammered by the media) before returning to their regular inept selves.

The run defense is allowing 3.3 yds/rush...8th best in the NFL!!.... Can they sustain this quality of play for more than 1 or 2 weeks???.... That is the question

Lets temper expectations and radical statements about this defense, fortunately the Colts improved run D Sunday night, so the Steelers abandoned the run, not to mention they were playing with the thinnest line back-ups of back-ups, after the game Big Ben said they were about to put D line players in cause of all the injuries. That played right into what the Colts do well, rush the passer! And it helps when you are going against a back ups! Just look at how awful the secondary is! The Colts backs were and are against the wall, it was a primetime game, they wanted to show they don’t need Manning, and they looked better. But it was one game and nobody is scared to go against the Colts without Manning.

This was copy and pasted exerpt from my response on the first page of this post! Agree 100% The media beat up the Colts, it was a primetime game, they showed up but that will inevitably fade!

  8. RIFF- You are awesome because you agreed with my idea and had the exact same thinking process, and great minds think alike!

JackButton- Thank you bro! It’s good to have support on here! On the old forum I used to get criticized for my radical out of the box thinking, which suggested the Colts be more aggressive in free agency and get players who would fit the scheme and could help us win Super bowls.. lol! I like your WR idea to be honest, reason I haven’t gone as far to say we will take Blackmon or Jefferey is because we don’t know what the front office has in mind for Wayne, personally I would like either one if they do not go the Kalil direction and don’t have first pick to trade down from. I would like Floyd in the second round! IFFFF he lasted that far, it’s possible, has some character issues, but he sure can ball! Jeffrey would only fall second round if he got hurt this year, I think it’s very realistic to call him a first rounder! Kalil is around pick 2-4 the link below has a projected ranking system thus far.

    http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/draft/prospectrankings/TSX/2012

I like Cordy Glenn direction if Ijalana plays RT, Glenn may not be around come round two! I have mentioned today on a thread the Colt’s need to play their youth, throw Ijalana in the fire now, same with Nevis, Lefeged, Thomas, Rucker.. need to evaluate and see who is going to be around going forward, even Hughes!! There has been a lack in the evaluation of personnel and talent and it really shows with #18 out, shame it took that happening to realize this. On the bright side, could really bough well for the Colts moving forward! I don’t like the idea of Luck, if we get #1, think we could get a lot of picks and impact players to make the difference now and going forward!

  9. Riff- I was the one saying that we should take Kalil and how the one pick would address three positions and really solve the offensive line woe’s and you agreed with me.

Mightisright- There are several threads where we were talking about all the possible draft scenarios already. I think for you to think the Colt’s may not get

the first pick is very unrealistic of you. I am not sure what would make you think otherwise, but the Colts do not look great offensively and defensively, and don’t think because the run d was vastly improved against the Steelers, that all of a sudden the Colts run d is legit. Steelers were on serious reserves for their line and the Colts had and still have their backs against the wall, so they wanted to prove it’s not the Peyton Manning Colts as ESPN has been saying all week! With this said as Colts fans we should want the first pick, it is either going to bring the drafting of Luck (which I personally do not want) or the trading down to acquire picks/players, which I am really hoping for. I think someone else could be selected later in the draft or next year’s draft to be groomed, why take the most anticipated QB out of college since Manning, to sit under him for hopefully4-5 years? Instead I would propose we use this to our advantage to stock pile picks and players, then we could draft players who could be instant contributors to the team!

As far as Colts needs: NT, CB, SS, LB, WR,

I proposed we trade down, acquire picks, take Kalil LT- USC, which would move Castanzo to RT giving the Colts their bookend tackles for years to come and also puts Ijalana in at RG, which most scouts thought he was better suited to play! Then we need to get impact players! CB- Alfonzo Denard Nebraska, LB- Manti’ Te’o Notre Dame, SS- Ray Ray Armstrong Florida, NT- Kawann Short Purdue. To get some of these players Denard/Manti’ Te’o may require trading back into the first round, but we should have the picks to do so!

  10. Not that corner isn’t a position of need, but there needs to be a NT taken at some point by the Colts whether that be from free agency or in the draft, cause I think Mookie is more of quality depth, there really needs to be another impact run stopper on the defensive line, Nevis appears to be a very good UT and needs to start and get all the reps. He shows the ability to penetrate and be the disruptive force needed so a quarterback can’t just step up in the pocket against the Colts to avoid Mathis and Freeney, not to mention he can play the run too! With that being said there still needs to be a real dominant NT on the line, and continual addressing of linebackers. The Colts really need to get more physical and more physical players, I like Angerer at MLB, but I hope the Colts can get Manti’ Te’o and figure a way to start both of them to be productive, I think sliding Te’o to outside linebacker could schematically work, since a 3-4 ILB has coverage duties against RB’s, TE’s, and slot WR’s.. not to mention this guys gap discipline is real serious and his ability to stop the run. With another true NT presence here and a physical linebacker like Manti, the Colts would excel in the front seven, cause Freeney and Mathis already excel and run supporting would be vastly improved!

  11. Jason I still think your boy Thompson plays the UT in Clemson’s 4-3! I could be wrong but I am pretty sure about that and I know the UT and NT are interchangeable in the 4-3, but he is given very good praise, and a lot of experts have him ranked above Jerel Worthy, but do you think Thompson would warrant a top five pick? I think whoever is taken needs to be an absolute beast and instant contributor/starter and whichever position he plays. To be fair Jason, and I know you have lots of knowledge especially with the college players, I think Thompson could be a reach, cause I think we will have a top 5 pick no doubt, as I have the colts winning 3 games. Of all the Dt’s you have mentioned the one who intrigues me the most is Kawann Short of Purdue, they play Notre Dame Saturday night at 8, which I am going to try to watch/record cause I need to see him play, and Manti Te’o!!! By the way the two safeties who really intrigue me are Kenny Tate OLB/S Maryland who I get to watch, and Ray Ray Armstrong SS Florida.

  12. Nobody is afraid to go against the Colts right now, that’s the team as a whole offensively and defensively! Sorry, I want him back as bad as anyone else, he is my favorite player ever to play the game, I defend him all the time as the greatest ever, these Baltimore fans respect him but don’t like him, and they all seem to think that chump Tom Brady is better. I have been saying Colts will win three games this year, I just hope the staff and front office can use this time more effectively to evaluate players and start different combos of players, Drake Nevis needs to start and play as much as possible! Hughes needs to play more to be evaluated as either potential or a bust, even use him and Wheeler as OLB’s on some occasional 3-4 packages! Ijalana needs to be put out there, who cares about Collins/Painter, put him at RT or G, the kid needs to learn! Same goes with Lefeged and Kevin Thomas, Rucker, and other players in the secondary, the Colts need to evaluate all options, because this team needs to improve going forward!

  13. A cbs sports pre draft rankings actually has Thompson ranked above Worthy, so you may be on to something here, he plays NT in their 4-3 system? He apparently gets serious penetration, he and Nevis could be a great combo, and I think Mookie is excellent depth also! I do not like Moala, think he is over rated byColts fans, just like I have been saying about Brackett and Bullit, fortunately they are both injured so we get to see more Angerer and Lefeged. But I really want a hard hitting SS, I will have to look at those guys, you should really you tube the guy from Iowa, the only knock on him is injury prone, remind you of another Iowa SS? And Kirpatrick really has the talent around him to take more risks, I think the Nebraska kid is a real talent, better than Amakamura, just like Kalil who I like for the first pick was better than Tyron, same effect!

  14. Jason, all the pre-draft stuff I have looked at says Jerel Worthy Michigan St. is the number one rated DT out of college and then they have the Miami kid Marcus Forston, both appear to have more size to be more of a NT, I could be wrong? Your Clemson guy looks more like a 4-3 UT, I like Nevis going forward as an UT, think we need to get a dominant NT, Mookie would be better as a back-up NT.. IMO, Alameda Ta'Amu 340 LB. DT plays a 3-4 NT in the huskies system, I don’t believe him to be more of a pass rusher, and he gets a lot of comparison to Haloti Nagta, who I watch every Sunday being from Baltimore. Again I could be wrong, but thus far it doesn’t look like a lot of dominant NT’s coming out this draft. I was reading some stampede blue, and a guy mentioned a safety from Iowa named Jordan Bernstine and posted a youtube link, this guy was BLASTING people, all I know is the Colts need the next Laron Landry.. a big-time box safety who really puts the wood in people. Do you have a suggestion there I could you-tube and look at? Also Kirpatrick could have the hype because of the system he is in, the Alabama defense is really good, I personally like their LB core and safety duo. Alfonzo Dennard, CB, Nebraska is the corner that I really like!

  15. Fitzpatrick is off to an amazing start thus far, I think Chan Gailey likes what he has there, not that they couldn’t groom someone, but again they have more pressing needs in the first round then QB. Minnesota may not like McNabb but he is there to groom first round pick Christian Ponder, so there won’t be another QB taken there. Oakland was the wildcard team I talked about, I really see them using their pick on a wide receiver i.e. Floyd, you know how Al Davis loves his fast, big players! San Fran seems very logically as I mentioned, and we both agree would be pretty realistic, unless they are giving up Willis, Whitner, Justin Smith, or Crabtree and picks, I wouldn’t want anyone else from them, Willis would be amazing but highly unlikely, I screamed for the Colts to get Whitner in free agency! Justin Smith could play either spot at DT since he is great interior pass rusher and against the run! Crabtree would be a solid receiver, and again picks picks picks! Sporano is on the hot seat so I would have to see what head coach comes in and what system, cause Henne has the potential, so they may go Orton, stick with Henne or possibly draft. Same with KC, Todd Hailey is on the hot seat, so it would depend on who came in and what system like Henne, Cassel is serviceable. Agree 100% about Denver, Tebow was not that new FO’s pick, so they could stick Orton or seek an option elsewhere. I think Dallas and Chicago are a little bit of a stretch but that’s your opinion, the other wild card team here is Washington. So there are a few possibilities, but there will be free agent QB’s available after this season, Palmer’s return, Vince Young, possibly Orton, and if Miami and KC go different directions Henne and Cassel, so teams could go that way. I think its very realistic to think a college QB like Landry or Barkley could be around round 2. So lets say Colts get #1 trade back and get a top 10 pick and a second and third this year as well (strictly this year) who could you see them drafting based on need and position so let call it, Round 1-Pick7, Round 2-Pick 1, Round 2-Pick 7, Round 3-Pick 1, and Round 3-Pick 7 include trade ups, just curious on who you think would be available and who would fit based on need since you follow college closely.

  16. TC knows what I am talking about! I agree that we used our first two picks last year on "Tackles" but correct me if I am wrong Ijalana was prospected to be a better fit at guard and has not seen much action at RT. Tyron Smith RT-USC drafted by Dallas this year played RT, thought to be very athletic and could transition to LT, also was the #1 draft O-Linemen, HE DIDN'T GET TO PLAY LT BECAUSE OF KALIL! He is the highest rated LT heading into the draft, yes although that could change, presuming he stays the stud he has been, this one pick would really solidify the line for years to come! It would address LT,RT,RG from one pick!

I understand Landry Jones is good, there is no guarantee he goes top 4, Carson Palmer is said to be available next year, possibly Kyle Orton, they could end up in Seattle (Palmer) and Miami (Orton) respectively leaving only KC (Not as pressing) and San Fran teams needing a QB, one of which we could trade with for Luck and picks, that means unless a wildcard team (Washington)(Oakland) are interested, most teams are set at QB... therefore the Colts would actually have a legitimate shot at Jones/Barkley/Foles.

Manti Te'o plays both OLB and ILB depends on the package he is more of coverage linebacker, as previously mentioned, most teams play the 3-4.. unless Chicago, Detroit (Both solid at LB) Tampa want him... when Chicago, Detroit, Tampa all have glaring needs at O-line, I think he could also fall to the second round, as was mentioned because of what his fit is and lack of versatility. Even if he and Angerer split time or one was forced to make the transition, this would bolster the play of the LB's with some physicality and run support!

I actually gave my post lost of thought before posting it of where people would fall, the scenarios I just gave are actually very realistic, based on team need. So these players could fall despite them being a first round talent. This happens all the time in the NFL draft, and I could also be completely wrong and they all go in the first round, throwing my scenario out the window!

  17. I really foresee the Colts finishing in the bottom three record wise in the NFL. The defense played surprisingly better against the run, but this was a Steelers team with back up of backups in on their line, and it was a prime time game, Colts were playing with extra incentive to prove they can win without Manning. Bottom line Colts need help, since there is all this Luck drooling, if the Colts get one, I say trade him for lots of picks, there are teams San Fran (Stanford connection) Miami, KC, Seattle.. all teams who will be in the bottom five (excluding 49ers) who would want Luck. Trade back, acquire lots of picks, look what the Browns got for the 6th overall pick this year, and draft Matt Kalil LT USC, this moves Castonzo to RT, and Ijalana to G, this puts young book ends at tackle and strengthens the interior of our line from one draft pick! With the two second rounder’s take Alameda Ta'Amu DT and either Matt Barkley or Landry Jones, or Floyd if he is still available, may slip because of character issues. You get a big run stuffing DT, a possible heir to the QB position who can sit and be groomed, without having to take Luck.

I know a lot like Burfict as do I, problem is he plays MLB and I like Angerer much better at MLB then OLB. We could use the later picks we have and acquired (3 and 4 rounder’s) to possibly move back up in the second and take a player like Manti Te'o OLB(FREAK). This would give us a scenario like:

    Round 1- Matt Kalil LT

    Round 2- Alameda Ta'Amu NT

    Round 2- Landry Jones QB

    Round 2- Manti Te'o OLB

Colts could cut Brackett to free up money to resign Mathis/ Wayne, move Angerer to MLB where he excels, Conner and Te'o the OLB's! Have the future bookends at Tackle, Our two dominant DE's, two young powerful OLB's, while pairing Nevis and Ta'Amu to bolster the interior, having the heir to Manning in the Landry Jones and picking for need the rest of the draft! All by trading back and passing one of the most anticipated QB's out of college, to play to our advantage!

  18. The contract for Luck would be wasted money, he will be on the sideline with a headset and clipboard, plenty of good talent at QB to be drafted later in the second round (Barkley and Jones). Where they would come cheaper, have upside, and could be groomed, the rodgers example is not good he was taken towards the end of the first round! Trade back acquire multiple picks this year and next. DRAFT KALIL first pick, he plays LT move Castonzo to RT and Ijalana to G, this move puts bookends at tackle and sure ups the offensive line. Next two picks (first, second and or two seconds) hopefully if still available take Alameda Ta'Amu DT Washington and one of the remaining WR's, probably FLOYD! This sures up the offensive line for Manning, brings a replacement for Wayne and play maker on the outside, and addresses the glaring need for a run stuffing DT!

  19. 20. There are plenty of coaches out there who would compliment our personnel with the system they utilize. I am not a Caldwell fan, he is not competent, and has a lack luster football iq. I would like to at the very least see a new DC brought in, the defense needs a makeover. I don't care what anyone says in 16 weeks from now without Peyton Manning, the Colts would be lucky to win 6 games. They cannot run the ball, protect the qb, play efficient special teams, stop the run, stop the pass, really show preparation and heart on the field! The season needs to be used to evaluate players i.e. Jerry Hughes but really the entire team, Coaching Staff, and the Front Office. Switching to a 3-4 would not happen over night, but I have seen players (Jerry Hughes and Phillip Wheeler) who are average at best at this very moment in our system, look above average as standing pass rushers! We could see if there are 3-4 players on the team and run some 3-4 packages this season. I like the idea of Freeney and Nevis as the DE's in a 3-4 maybe even Jamaal Anderson and Foster, obviously a FA or drafting of a 3-4 NT, and maybe drafting Vontaze Burfict to play ILB with Angerer, Brackett's average years are behind him. Mathis is already undersized and could possibly play OLB or would certainly have some quality trade value! Conner, Wheeler, Hughes all could play OLB, and really in a 3-4 OLB are a dime a dozen, every year Green Bay drafts an OLB or has someone in the system capable of performing. I am more for a Hybrid 3-4 from our base 4-3, I think a coach like Rob Ryan would be able to do this, the Browns actually had a respectable defense last year, he had Brady and Brees number last year. The guy creates wrinkles and exotic looks that I think he could work wonders with here. To win another SB with the current team is going to require some change and some outside the box thinking! Things most Indy fans are not accustomed too! On the old forum I was asking for a defensive minded head coach, Peyton has the offense, and the new coach could focus on the defense!

  21. Jason- I really like alot of your logic that I read on here. Especially your thinking about a new coach in the post about the "Caldwell Bashing." There are coaches out there that wouldn't require the Colts to make drastic changes to compliment what they do. I used to post on the old forum alot, but was always criticized for my thinking, since I would suggest free agent acquisitions that actually fit our system, and was told I was drafting a Madden Team. Really I know alot more about football than the people who were critical of me! Apparently going after a FA is the devil! (In my best Momma Boucher voice) I really like Vontaze Burfict, physical, fast, leader!

  22. I remember Jasper, when I was looking at the DT's available for the draft I looked at the bottom thinking Indy would take one late and was watching videos on the really big ones (Jasper, Kenrick Eliss..Jets Pick) Jasper is already on the Bills? Seahawks cut Colin Cole, cause they overpaid for Mebane, Cole is 31, the issue is he is coming off surgery, and was due to make 3.5 mil this season, so Seattle gave him the boot. Indy could probably get him cheaper, and like I said earlier, when he played last year teams only rushed for 80 yds against the Hawks, 140 without him when Mebane started at NT.

As far as Waters goes my post was well before even contract talks with the Patriots let alone when the signed him. But I was hoping the Colts got Gaither from the Ravens, when he was a free agent, I live in Baltimore, so I got to see him play, he has some talent! That would have allowed Diem to play RG, and we could have done a one year contract to buy time for Ijalana, cause Link is really not quality.

With all this said, I don't see the Colts going after anyone, apparently the O-Line is set and SOLID? (SMH) And a DT rotation of Mookie and Moala (not impressive) against the run will get the job done? While using Nevis and Foster for the pass rushing downs?

  23. Colin Cole- NT (Seattle) Colts should really go pick up this big RUN STUFFER! Teams only averaged 80yds a game against Seattle when Cole was healthy last year and 140 yds when he was out of the lineup and Mebane was still in. I said on the old forum Mebane was not the run stuffer, Colin Cole is the run stuffer! This would be quality depth at the NT position with Cole and Mookie, Colts should really pick Cole up and could probably get him cheap!

Darren Sharper- S (New Orleans) Still a play maker, could add quality depth to the secondary!

Brian Waters- G (Kansas City) Run Blocking Machine! Could kick Diem to RT until Ijalana is ready, Link is clearly not cutting it, and Diem is the best RT (hold your breath) that is currently on the Colts roster.

NT, SS, G/T should be the areas to address with any pick up, these three would be perfect! I really want to see Cole brought in! A rotation of Mookie and Moala and Cole and Nevis would be quality! I think Cole and Nevis together could earn their way as starters and Moala and Mookie would be quality back ups. Waters would do what Diem has done decently this preseason but his running lanes would be even larger on the right side, and would allow for some flexibility and stability on the O-Line. A ball hawk like Sharper roaming in the secondary would only help to improve our weak corners, I don't think there is much quality out there in the CB market, so Sharper would provide instant support in our cover two shell!

BmoreColt is back just like Peyton babyyyy! How come I can't start a new topic?? It's only allowing me to have three replies a day? The old forum was not like that. Anyway since we are talking about final roster spots, I wanted to start a thread on Lance Briggs. He requested to be traded from the Chicago Bears today, who play in a similar Tampa 2 scheme. I like that the FO was aggressive this offseason with acquiring free agents who could fit our system or be "role players" and the D line has a solid rotation this year IMO, but I still have watched game after game where the linebackers were weak, couldn't shed tackles, or were blocked off by tight ends and running backs, I personally would like to see Briggs traded for, what a compliment and physical presence he would bring at OLB not to mention being a mentor. So by getting him we would start Briggs, Brackett, Simms, and under each player we would have up and coming quality replacements to mentor off these three. For Briggs (Conner), for Brackett (Angerer), and for Simms (Wheeler, Moten). The window on the Colts is closing. this would help now and after Manning. Maybe inquire about a trade giving the Bears a third or fourth rounder and Jerry Hughes, even a second rounder! Briggs is well worth it! This is also just me thinking out loud and wishful thinking of course, but I see the LB as weak in the pre-season and this move would make sense, especially if Polian could work his magic in the cap! Thoughts?

I just joined this new forum yesterday and this is what I wrote for the final 53...it was the only somewhat topic of relevance I could state this at the time!

  25. Blazer- I do not take offense, I am glad you took the time to read and respond with constructive criticism; however many NFL players complain about their contract especially when they are out performing their existing contract. I have noticed the weakness with the Colts D this pre season is the lack of tackling and support from the LB's in stopping the run. They have gap discipline issues, over run the play, poor tackling, washed out of the play by not only linemen but tight ends and running backs (this includes Brackett, Angerer, Conner). This is a major problem, this is why Bob Sanders was always hurt, running backs hitting the second level untouched, not to mention he recklessly through his body around. But the D front (with the run stopping and pass rushing rotation) is better than I have ever seen it. (which doesn't say much) Briggs would bring system familiarity, toughness, and leadership, afterall he is regarded as the best OLB in a 4-3 scheme in the NFL! A large # of people want to see Hughes and Brown cut, well maybe one of them or both of them with the addition of a draft pick could bring Briggs our way. Collins contract is two years 14 Mil, and reported it only takes a 2.5 Mil dollar cap hit, leaving roughly 5 Mil left if the cap articles are accurate, how do you figure for a guy scheduled to make only 3.5 Mil from the Bears this year couldn't be added to the team, when Polian worked cap magic with collins (OVERPAID) deal? The logic behind my rant and wishful thinking is clearly there!

On a side note, there needs to be a veteran SS brought on to this team because Bullit is not the answer, and if the Colts don't bring a veteran starter, I could really see Lefeged starting by mid season!
